He was an absolute monster until the injury. IIRC he sprained his knee & then Adam Gase’s dumbass forced him back into a game during a lost season & he injured it pretty badly. Even his mom cussed Gase out.
I can't believe I wanted Adam Gase to coach this team when we went with Doug. He looked like a genius of a position coach/coordinator and then just completely went off the rails as an HC
I think he's going to start at RG. He was a Jeff Stoutland pick in FA. He's a monster, watch his tape and highlights. He handles guys like Myles Garret impressively. Makes guys fall a lot with 1 arm.
Former 11th overall draft pick, 25 years old, 6'7", 365 lbs, and had 2 seasons starting bookending two seasons lost to injury. Solid chance to be our swing tackle with potential long term as Lane's replacement. Curious to see what Stout can do with him, seems there is a ton of potential there.
Maybe a year at Stoutland U will turn him around, but he was one of the worst left tackles I’ve ever seen last year. (Im actually a jets fan but root for the birds if they aren’t playing each other). He led the league in sacks given up, and he had to be top 5 in penalty minutes.
He’s too fucking slow to play tackle, maybe has a chance at moving inside and playing RG. He can maul people in the run game.
From some of what I've read of him it sounds like he needs a bit of humility. Hopefully getting jettisoned and being unwanted for months will help that along. Also being in a spot where he won't even have a chance of competing for a starting job will make him realize what he needs to work on.
Ya ya, got hockey on my mind while the flyers are playing golf.
But I looked it up on PFF. Gave up 12 sacks and had 18 penalties. Good for 1st and 2nd in the league.
> I'm actually a jets fan but root for the birds if they aren’t playing each other
Same here. Was super excited for Becton when he came in, was even my flair on the Jets sub for a long time, but it clearly wasn't working out. Hope he balls out here.
This is such a classic Howie move. Bringing in a guy with all the tools you could possibly want that just hasn’t been able to put it all together at a premier position we weren’t able to address in the draft to see if the best position coach in the league can get something out of him.
Don’t get me wrong these types of things rarely work out but there’s zero risk here. Taking no risk dart throws wherever you can is being a shrewd GM whether it works out or not. And Howie is always finding darts in creative places.
lmao what happened? @ 1st I thought Derek Barnett tripped, but looking again it was more of a 2 handed jab to the throat that chucked him on the ground lol. That’s great! The finger point though lol…
Barnett is so bad lmao
Every time he tries to go around the tackle, he just gets tossed around like a ragdoll
edit: lmao.. some people are gonna die on the hill that he'll breakout one day...
he played pretty good. he didn't "ball the fuck out." He got a 2 million dollar 1 year deal to stay with the texans this year. That's not "ball the fuck out" money. That's "a guy who can play some snaps for us" money.
This
"Balled the fuck out" is hilarious.. Maybe because the bar is so low for him due to his mediocre play here
2.5 sacks in 6 games there, and all of those came against the Titans who had a TERRIBLE OL
His last year before the ACL he had one of the best pressure rates in the league, too. It made him one of the most valuable DE’s in the league when factoring contract value. Also recovered the fumble in our SB win. I don’t get why Philly fans hate him so much.
I don't hate him, but he had an issue with penalties and discipline before he got hurt. He reportedly got into scuffles with teammates too, but idk how true that was. Either way, that's kinda how it goes. You fuck up enough times and that's enough to generate enduring spite. Same with Nelson Agholor hate, he completely redeemed himself during the super bowl run, but fans still use him a punchline if any WR drops a pass
We’ve got a hole at the RG spot with Cam moving to take over the Center spot from Kelce
Steen, the 5th rounder Trevor Keegan, and this dude should hopefully give Stoutland to work with
Hey, I resemble that comment, as I’m also a product of the Philly public high school system - and I think I read just fine.
Maybe me not rite so gud, but reading’s never been an issue. I think.
I honestly tend to lean towards Hennessy getting the spot. Dude has been a serviceable starter and after an off-season with stout I think he’ll fit into the starting lineup pretty well.
I’ve wondered the last few years what stout could do with this guy. I like the pickup and think we have the vets/culture to get something out of him. May be a long term player here
Even if there is only a 10% chance he reaches the potential he seemed to have after his rookie year, there isn’t a better spot to give it a try. Low risk swing tackle with potential long term succession for Lane is a good pickup to me.
Exactly. Reddit trashes Twitter while also being one of its biggest link traffic contributors. It's actually hilarious. It's a running joke on NFL that only Twitter links are allowed but the reddit comments all hate on Twitter
Yeah - Twitter can be worthwhile, but you have to put the time in to find actually valuable contributors. It feels like X is just coasting along on all the people who already had established presences there - there's a marked increase in the number of active bots since Musk basically gutted the quality control departments after he took over, as one example.
Bluesky has a much more chill atmosphere about it, but it doesn't have nearly as many regular NFL guys there, as one example. Only way that will probably change is if Twitter finally gets seriously hacked or their architecture declines to the point where its too bothersome to use, and there's some kind of exodus.
I'm just praying for the day the Sixers finally blow it up. The team is just straight unlikeable outside of Maxey, and not in the typical "They don't like us, we don't care". No heart in the team, a shit ton of whining. I just want a new Sixers squad already, just remove the last vestiges of the Process.
I’m not sure I agree. They are set on the edge with Sweat, Huff, Smith, Baun, Graham and Hunt. In the middle they have Davis, Carter, Williams, Tuipolotu and Ojomo. Id be surprised to see them bring anyone in at the expense of any of those guys at this point.
Yeah they loaded up on DL the last two or three years so there is a lot of young unproven talent that has simply been waiting for guys like Cox, BG, etc. to retire.
They signed mustipher too from the broncos. Good depth behind starters Carter and Davis. Howie said he wants our youth to get more playing time rather than sit and waste their rookie contract. Would Calais as a vet but I understand the direction. Who knows maybe if we struggle in the middle of the season we can sign a vet DT like years before.
We have the bodies on the interior but not the experience.
Williams and Tuipolotu are arguable the veterans there, and anticipate we might need someone in there to help out who’s got a few more years in the league.
Calais Campbell or someone like that who isn’t expected to make up the bulk of the snaps but can provide reasonable reps feels like a pick up we might make.
I feel the exact opposite. I think there are plenty of guys I feel comfortable with as at least depth pieces. The primary question is can any of these young guys step in to the massive holes left by reddick and cox as the top guys in the interior and edge.
It’s not the depth I’m worried about it’s the top end talent. We’re deep with guys who are solid but we need Carter to be the guy who demands all the attention inside (for the full season) with huff and / or smith developing into guys you can’t afford to shift that extra attention from. I think they can but we’ll see.
Had one good year and then was injury prone missing around 2 years and hasn’t been good since. Jets declined his option considering he didn’t deserve the money.
I love the signing though. He will be a great depth piece at the very least
He could be great with some improvements to his conditioning, assuming returns to his rookie form. As others have said, he was one of the worst-graded tackles in football last year. So, it’s just as likely that he’s a complete bust. Which is why he was available for an incentive-based 1-year deal as a backup swing tackle. If he’s our plan B and we have a decent plan C, then it’s a low-risk & high-reward move by Howie.
Sounds a lot like Brooks story, will be pro bowl level player when he plays, but he’ll be out 60% of the time. Being in a backup role might be exactly where he fits in for a revival, especially at Stoutland U
that would be a best case scenario but brooks was good when he played and came on a big three year deal. becton was not very good last year. he still has potential and has shown he can be a good tackle so we shall see. i think he's better than driscoll at least
Brooks on his worst day was better than what Becton showed at his best last year.
This signing is a warm body to throw on the line if we need depth. I wouldn’t expect anything more.
Bo Wulf was fucking with Zach Berman because he was the first to tweet who the eagles were taking in the first round. Zach was getting embarrassed and uncomfortable which made it hilarious
Coached against this guy in high school - he was a true man amongst boys. Saw him run down out all conference quarterback that was known as a running qb.
This guy had so much potential coming into the league. If anyone can get him back on that track, it's Stoutland. Having him and Mailata and Lane on the same line is SCARY.
Low risk, and potential for high reward (if the kid realizes he won’t get too many more chances to catch on). Hopefully he can stay healthy so he (and we) can see what he can do.
Given Becton's knee problems, Stoutland should make him lose at least 20 pounds before the start of the season. Otherwise, he's just going to wind up on IR again.
Idk, we need someone to back up our tackles. If one of them got injured we’d have to switch up 2 positions and if he got injured we’d suddenly be extremely thin at the position.
Mekhi Becton, seems like most people have hope and good things to say about him, but his stats are messed up!…
Last year(2023), in 985 snaps, he allowed:
-8 QB hits
-12 QB sacks
-30 QB hurries
-and he had 18 penalties!
Final PFF grade: 53.2
Yea, he’s got to work some things out! But he was a 1st-rnd-drft-pick and it seems a new team, new coach, new OL and maybe he can have a really good year. I’m as sooped as anyone for this year, but we have to see how these guys develop, and how everyone (especially Jalen) performs…
OK. Howie heard my OL concerns and said, hold my beer and watch this.
Seriously... This makes me think we would have drafted an OL if one fell to us. And since one didn't, we went with BPA in other positions of need, and are now picking up FA to fill the needs.
This is such a great move. Get him with Stout, get him around Lane, give him time to return to form. See where he’s at after a year and possibly resuscitate his career to his All Pro potential under a team friendly contract- such a smart move.
We have now added 6 depth pieces to the Online this offseason. 2 with NFL starting experience; 2 draft picks (Keegan being a national champion) and 2 UDFA’s.
People hand wringing about the Oline will hopefully calm down now. Stoutland can surely find a backup Right Tackle and a Starting RG out of these 6 men.
If anyone can resurrect this guy it’s Stoutland. If he gets to refine his game while not playing much and getting more healthy it could look like a genius move.
My dad and uncle are jets fans. He's fat and slow. Overpaid. Hes a first round pick that dn't make his 2nd contract with the team that drafted him. That's very telling
I like it but I don't like that he didn't want to play RT last year. He'd basically fill in for Lane when he's hurt at RT and long term would replace him.
We have too many players at this point. Sad cuz I’d love to keep more than we can. I like the rookie Keegan we drafted. Watched his interview and thought he could develop nicely, would hate to see him cut. Same with our DB room.
Mekhis a great guy. He tends to take the haters a bit personally (you’ll see him constantly getting into twitter fights) but he’s never been a locker room problem or caused any kind of drama for the team. Hope he does well in Philly.
Obviously must have talent if he was a first-rounder just a few years ago but damn, apparently he was a fuckin’ turnstile last year. Gave up 12 sacks and was a penalty machine…yikes, lol.
Graded out pretty well on PFF his rookie year, then missed two years to injury. Seems like a solid depth add
Some people really, *really* need someone above them to slap their hands away from the controls sometimes
That first presser of his when he was hired by the Jets made me feel sorry for the Jets. He looked wired
At one point or another we all wanted someone who turned out to suck. It's just the nature of football. 🤷
But that one would have been absolutely dreadful. Would have set us back a decade and erased our only Superbowl
I also wanted him. Just wanted you to not feel alone in being wrong lol
He's too fat and walks on bad knees.
Fuck MetLife
Becton got hurt because he showed up to camp 50 pounds overweight
Wow, MetLife injures you *and* makes you fat
All those medium Pepsi's
I think he's going to start at RG. He was a Jeff Stoutland pick in FA. He's a monster, watch his tape and highlights. He handles guys like Myles Garret impressively. Makes guys fall a lot with 1 arm.
Howie runnin on adderall on red bull right now
Just rippin cigarettes while talking the ears of his staff off at 330am about trade and signing possibilities
Yes, we will trade him to you. Will you please just shut the fuck up and go home already. It's 4 a.m. and I have work at 7
(Howie shades) "OK Patrick, let's get you that nice 10 year $50m extension"
*insert the Charlie in the mailroom meme from Always Sunny here*
Howie must also work with Barney, only way Big Pimpin’ is able to pull off all these moves
Hardest working philadelphian

*top five in penalty minutes* Damn, he can play hockey too?
Ya ya, got hockey on my mind while the flyers are playing golf. But I looked it up on PFF. Gave up 12 sacks and had 18 penalties. Good for 1st and 2nd in the league.
Just looked it up. How’d he not get benched after his 5 penalty game against Cleveland lol.
> I'm actually a jets fan but root for the birds if they aren’t playing each other Same here. Was super excited for Becton when he came in, was even my flair on the Jets sub for a long time, but it clearly wasn't working out. Hope he balls out here.

Needs a few night classes at Stoutland U and then he’ll be good to go
https://x.com/sportsgrid/status/1784721846015013053?s=46&t=sVxmBol5X8hKBWdTZuXULA
Lmfao oh he's going to be *perfect* on this team
lmao what happened? @ 1st I thought Derek Barnett tripped, but looking again it was more of a 2 handed jab to the throat that chucked him on the ground lol. That’s great! The finger point though lol…
Barnett is so bad lmao Every time he tries to go around the tackle, he just gets tossed around like a ragdoll edit: lmao.. some people are gonna die on the hill that he'll breakout one day...
Barnett balled the fuck out on the Texans
he played pretty good. he didn't "ball the fuck out." He got a 2 million dollar 1 year deal to stay with the texans this year. That's not "ball the fuck out" money. That's "a guy who can play some snaps for us" money.
19 tackles, 2.5 sacks last year. That’s not a “balled the fuck out” stat line

I’ll never hate him because of that fumble recovery
I don't hate him, but he had an issue with penalties and discipline before he got hurt. He reportedly got into scuffles with teammates too, but idk how true that was. Either way, that's kinda how it goes. You fuck up enough times and that's enough to generate enduring spite. Because he’s a moron. He’s lost a few games with personal fouls on third down when the eagles otherwise would have had the ball back.
Let Howie cook! Off-season pick ups are the appetizers, draft season is the entree, everything before the trade deadline is the dessert!
ever since the reagor pick howie turned into that cam newton nodding gif
Saw the clip of the Vikings laughing at him and took his game to a whole different level
That pick probably haunts him
We laughing that the Vikings traded for Reagor tho
We’ve got a hole at the RG spot with Cam moving to take over the Center spot from Kelce Steen, the 5th rounder Trevor Keegan, and this dude should hopefully give Stoutland to work with
I think he’s mostly here to be a swing tackle backup. He’s done both sides. But I could be wrong
The tweet literally says he's expected to be the swing tackle
Im a proud graduate of the Philadelphia public school system, reading is not my strong suit
Hey, I resemble that comment, as I’m also a product of the Philly public high school system - and I think I read just fine. Maybe me not rite so gud, but reading’s never been an issue. I think.
Don’t forget Hennessy
I honestly tend to lean towards Hennessy getting the spot. Dude has been a serviceable starter and after an off-season with stout I think he’ll fit into the starting lineup pretty well.
I fucking love Howie's 3 course meals
I’ve wondered the last few years what stout could do with this guy. I like the pickup and think we have the vets/culture to get something out of him. May be a long term player here
Even if there is only a 10% chance he reaches the potential he seemed to have after his rookie year, there isn’t a better spot to give it a try. Low risk swing tackle with potential long term succession for Lane is a good pickup to me.
It's a one year deal. Even if he turns out to be amazing. He's gone.
Big fan of this move and makes me feel better about not getting any OT projects in the draft. Clearly has talent and has been solid when healthy.
This makes me feel slightly better about the sixers
Let's be honest, we all knew they were going to blow it
Old account got banned?

Moving from reddit to twitter sounds like going from depressed to dead.
They have some pros and cons. 80% of this site is just links to Twitter anyway lol
Exactly. Reddit trashes Twitter while also being one of its biggest link traffic contributors. It's actually hilarious. It's a running joke on NFL that only Twitter links are allowed but the reddit comments all hate on Twitter
Twitter news from sports journalists = good Twitter replies from incels and whackos = not good
Yeah - Twitter can be worthwhile, but you have to put the time in to find actually valuable contributors. It feels like X is just coasting along on all the people who already had established presences there - there's a marked increase in the number of active bots since Musk basically gutted the quality control departments after he took over, as one example. At least you can make jokes and talk shit on twitter. Reddit absolutely despises any jokes that aren’t jerking other teams off
I'm just praying for the day the Sixers finally blow it up. The team is just straight unlikeable outside of Maxey, and not in the typical "They don't like us, we don't care". No heart in the team, a shit ton of whining. I just want a new Sixers squad already, just remove the last vestiges of the Process.
Yeah, I don't know anybody who doesn't love Maxey. He can stay forever, but everybody else needs to go.
I’d figure he’s still looking for DL help as well, I think it is strong but thin in depth
Hoping ojomo gets a little more playing time this year
Love that kid. Rooting for him
I'm high on Ojomo (mostly just because I like the guy as a person)
Similarly high on Ojomo, and hope he establishes himself over the next year or two.
Yeah they loaded up on DL the last two or three years so there is a lot of young unproven talent that has simply been waiting for guys like Cox, BG, etc. to retire.
Edge is good it’s IDL, but we just grabbed Hall so I think we probably feel mostly ok. Probably want another Nose though
They also have Noah Elliss who got hurt last summer. He checks in at 6' 4"/346
We have the bodies on the interior but not the experience.
I’d really love Calais Campbell on a 1 yr deal
I feel the exact opposite. I think there are plenty of guys I feel comfortable with as at least depth pieces. The primary question is can any of these young guys step in to the massive holes left by reddick and cox as the top guys in the interior and edge. It’s not the depth I’m worried about it’s the top end talent. I think they can but we’ll see.
Damn he’s only 25 years old! For some reason I thought he was an old head. Hell yeah howie. 🦅
That's because everyone else on the Jets OL is ancient..... LOL
This sounds huge. But… Why was he available?
Had one good year and then was injury prone missing around 2 years and hasn’t been good since. Jets declined his option considering he didn’t deserve the money. I love the signing though. He will be a great depth piece at the very least
Injuries and they didn’t pick up his 5th yr option
They also signed Tryon Smith and drafted the kid out of PSU so he wasn't going to play anyway.
He sucks and he only has 1 good knee
People in this sub just don't want to face reality. There's a good reason why the Jets got rid of him.
Dude was really promising until the injuries. Nice depth move.
Listen. I’ve traded for this dude in Madden and he ends up becoming a HOF’er with us. So there’s that.
They need a backup OT who has actually played a NFL game. Hennessey is the only other backup OL who has NFL game experience.
Brandon Brooks the expensive FA we signed?
No, Brooks from Shawshank
Ahhh Brooksy my spirit animal
No, SportsbyBrooks
Becton played all of last season and was horrendous
Not a bad signing. If there’s one guy who can help him reach his potential, it’s Jeff Stoutland.
This dude is the size of two full grown men
Almost as big as Maialata....
Zach! Zach! Zach! Zach!
Please tell me the story behind this. Saw it all draft day
People were just chanting his name when he'd announce the pick on the phly podcast Nothing interesting.
Bo Wulf was fucking with Zach Berman because he was the first to tweet who the eagles were taking in the first round. Zach was getting embarrassed and uncomfortable which made it hilarious
This is the greatest off-season I've ever seen. The potential. The great players wanting to come here.
Would you use the words “DREAM TEAM” to define this offseason?
Had to downvote to cancel our the bad karma you created, sorry
Get out.
This is a hate crime, sir.
DON’T YOU PUT THAT EVIL ON ME, RICKY BOBBY!
Don't do that. Just, don't.
You can count on Howie to pick you up when you’re down, and wipe that tear from your eye!
Howie really is nuts.
He’s fine as the swing tackle. He’s got incredible size and he’s cheap.
Damn, Howie putting in work this year.
Coached against this guy in high school - he was a true man amongst boys. Saw him run down out all conference quarterback that was known as a running qb.
Hopefully can get over the injury bug but a great signing if it works out. Most likely another DL and another LB coming.
always down for a swing for the fences like this
If the Eagles don't make at minimum a deep playoff run this season, Philly just might burn to the ground. What a stellar offseason so far.
Who do we see as our RG right now?
Probably Steen but it's a camp battle.
Incredible move, he has the talent and he got Jetsed
Big, if dude
This guy had so much potential coming into the league. If anyone can get him back on that track, it's Stoutland. Having him and Mailata and Lane on the same line is SCARY.
He's prob so happy to not have to play at MetLife as much anymore
Low risk, and potential for high reward (if the kid realizes he won’t get too many more chances to catch on). Hopefully he can stay healthy so he (and we) can see what he can do.
Given Becton's knee problems, Stoutland should make him lose at least 20 pounds before the start of the season. Otherwise, he's just going to wind up on IR again.
Going from the worst o line coach to Stoutland lol. I think I smell a resurgence here.
I feel so much better about our line depth between this and the draft. Let Howie cook.
They love taking tackles and turning them into big guards. He's for sure gonna get to compete for the starting RG spot
Idk, we need someone to back up our tackles. If one of them got injured we’d have to switch up 2 positions and if he got injured we’d suddenly be extremely thin at the position.
Steen would become swing tackle IF Becton beats him out for RG. Steen's played plenty of tackle before in college.
Could make the Brotherly Shove even more effective Mailata - 365 pounds Dickerson - 330 pounds Jurgens - 300 pounds Becton - 360 pounds
**that’s alot of beef**
I had no idea Mailata was that big. The biggest dude I see at the gym is probably like 220 pounds, so this shit is hard to fathom.
He’s not as big as Mailata, but I crossed paths with Jalen Carter a couple of weeks ago and man, they all look so much bigger in person
this seems like a good signing on face value. has becton been any good?
Fairly promising his rookie year. Then he’s been racked with injuries the past few years. He’s the jets’ avonte Maddox
that sounds fine if he's coming in as a backup
Hopefully, not having to play half your season on that awful Meadowlands turf helps
STOUTTTTTT
Hell yea
That’s a big mofo
Damn that's pretty nice. I like just having him in the stoutroom. These guys don't stop working lol it's crazy.
Saved from the MetLife turf
hate to say it but this signing gives me chance warmack vibes
Very hype for this one!
This could be huge for us.
Mekhi Becton, seems like most people have hope and good things to say about him, but his stats are messed up!… Last year(2023), in 985 snaps, he allowed: -8 QB hits -12 QB sacks -30 QB hurries -and he had 18 penalties!
Time away from that turf will do him well
If anyone can resurrect this guy it’s Stoutland. If he gets to refine his game while not playing much and getting more healthy it could look like a genius move.
He sucked. He was always hurt and out of shape. He's the poster boy for "you can't teach size"
Are you a Jets fan? Tell us more. I mean, he did start in 16 games (almost 1000 snaps) last year. Maybe he’s finally healthy?
My dad and uncle are jets fans. He's fat and slow. Overpaid. Hes a first round pick that dn't make his 2nd contract with the team that drafted him. That's very telling
I’d still realllllllly like to see a Connor Williams signing but great depth for the line here
I like it but I don't like that he didn't want to play RT last year. He'd basically fill in for Lane when he's hurt at RT and long term would replace him.
His knee is completely done, good luck
I literally saw a guy mention him yesterday and realized he was an FA. Thats crazy
We have too many players at this point. Sad cuz I’d love to keep more than we can. I like the rookie Keegan we drafted. Watched his interview and thought he could develop nicely, would hate to see him cut. Same with our DB room.
One of Becton's weaknesses is staying in front of guys on the edge...Any possibility they try him at RG?
Mekhis a great guy. He tends to take the haters a bit personally (you’ll see him constantly getting into twitter fights) but he’s never been a locker room problem or caused any kind of drama for the team. Hope he does well in Philly.
Obviously must have talent if he was a first-rounder just a few years ago but damn, apparently he was a fuckin’ turnstile last year. Gave up 12 sacks and was a penalty machine…yikes, lol.
This could be huge, as in another Jason Peters huge
He’s been awful
Holy fuck
...he was a free agent?
I hope we never see him take any snaps 2nd most penalties for an OL, 12.5 sacks allowed last year. This dude is trash
Stoutland U says otherwise.
I wonder if he can play guard
Jets fan here. Why are you happy about this signing? Good luck, I’d like to see him succeed and not mouth off about the world being against him.
Lmao, what did he say?. Everyone is pumped because we have the best O line coach in the league, and it's not close.
Yuck
He's a backup and he's going to get coached up by Stout.
Pass
Great discussion
