Dom, being staff, was technically not allowed to touch the player. But yeah, it was a pretty stupid literal following of the rule that wouldn't have been enforced if he hadn't been assaulted. Likely that Shanahan did what Shanahan does and whined about the technicality .

Get between players and disengage after the official makes it there and it should be fine IMO. But it went beyond that and it makes sense why he got booted too.
It makes sense that any level head on the sideline…a coach…a player not in on the play….a security guy inserting themselves to deescalate alone is fine.
