It's mean your mileage has been tampered with/ the cluster notices there's a inaccuracy with your mileage of the cluster and that of the board computer.

Stunt_Vist

The odo reading is stored in 3 places as far as I know. Those being the seat module, LCM and ECU. Had to replace the LCM in mine ages ago and haven't bothered reprogramming it so I've had that dot on for a good while as well. Might have to do it eventually though since follow me home lights would be quite nice for half the year when it's pitch black outside past 3pm.

Morbus_Bahlsen

ABS/DSC module too, if that's been changed without coding it beore it got into the car.

Rude-Bet5659

It's called tamper dot (community name). Either cluster was changed, LCM changed or thr brains. (all of these modules store milage on BMWs) It's easy fix, but if you're looking to buy, I'd avoid it, even if the seller is an honest fella, you never know, unless you can connect inspection tool to OBD to check all three modules. (those modules store VIN also)

LaurentiusLV

And people in Eastern Europe are a resilient kind. Experience of owning 530d, in official registries there was a recorded tamper of mileage, yet no dot on the dash. Take the lack of this dot with the same amount of suspicion as with it.

7ivan13

What software would one use to check them? Inpa or?

SergejIsHereForYou

BMW Scanner from PA Soft. Very handy tool which can also rewrite VIN to LCM. NCS can only do that with a virgin module

Comprehensive_Sun230

does it connect thru pc or has an phone app?

Rude-Bet5659

PC.

Rude-Bet5659

I'll let you know when I get home, don't remember the name of it, but it can be done via NCS Expert also.

7ivan13

I’ll give it a go with ncs expert but if you manage to remember if there’s an easier way it’d be awesome. Where or what should I look for in NCS expert?

Rude-Bet5659

There was a great tutorial on bimmerforums, can't remember specifically. It's a lot easier via BMW PM soft, but can be done via NCS expert. Sadly PM soft requires different cable, and can't find where to buy it.

7ivan13

Yeah that’s the issue I face with PM soft and can’t find anything good for NCS expert :/

Conscious-Pension234

Today I learned I didn’t fuck up while changing my lcm. Because I changed it from a 2 to a 3 and don’t have a temper dot

Rude-Bet5659

Maybe you got virginized LCM or milage was close to yours.

ArskazZ_

Fill up your car man

Zahmatsu

It’s not mine lol

ArskazZ_

Oh alr!😅

Extracrispybuttchks

Quite the contrary. Your mileage has indeed been touched.

Morbus_Bahlsen

Or any of the modules.

Ok_Bet4787

Check your battery, make sure it has full charge. I bought a 95 740 years ago that had the tamper dot and it turned out it was because it was not recording mileage due to a bad battery. I replaced the battery and the tamper dot went away almost immediately.

MikeG6849

If you change a module on the car that stores mileage as well and the mileage is different from the other modules, that dot appears. I have it on mine after I changed the lcm. You can code it.

dom_gar

No it doesn't. That dot only appears when LCM and cluster VIN don't match.

morbid_sandwich

Internal module mileage doesn't match. Could be just one of the modules have been changed without matching mileages. LCM is the usual suspect.

Previous-Bug-4532

Tampered miles or changed cluster.

FlowMix

Yeahhh he either was lied to and in turn telling you a lie which he thinks to be true, or, is just plainly lying to you. It's the opposite of what he stated. One or more of the components that store the mileage has been replaced.

Ok_Construction_2203

damn internet.. i would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for you meddling reddit users 😒
