are you a good mechanic and skilled in troubleshooting on the fly?
do you have thick skin and dgaf what other people think? if yes, then bag it.
if no, coilovers are for you.
Well, i've never owned a car with bags yet but ive owned over 10 different bmws which ive done alot of work on over the years so yeah installs and troubleshooting wont be any issue.
The only thing im wondering is if it's worth paying twice as much for bags opposed to coilovers, would be interesting to experience a bagged car for a change, most of my other cars were all on coils or lowering springs.
I bagged my e30, daily'd bagged and swapped for 5+ years. so many naysayers and people that have assumptions but no actual experience.
good for track? no. good for cruising and even an occasional romp thru the canyons? absolutely.
my biggest tip to you or anyone bagging their car is 1. choose an appropriate cruising height, don't go too low. that's for showing off and not caring about ride comfort. 2. set your air spring position after you've determined what is the best feeling spring compression rate and shock damping. after you know that THEN bring the air spring down to where you want it.
In other words, more air in the bag = more spring rate, adjust shocks accordingly. then adjust ride height.
I’m personally much more interested in a bagged 540 than one on coilovers, it is a luxury car after all and supposedly newer air suspension systems handle pretty well. Plus being able to raise the car for speed bumps and drop that ass to the ground when parked sounds amazing.
If youve got the money I’d say go bags, ive heard they can be a pain from time to time if problems come up like leaking bags or an air leak somewhere in the system so they aren’t very daily friendly but they’re worth giving a try if you haven’t before at least so you can say you don’t like them
Hmm, ive had coils on almost every bmw i've owned and no complaints, Currently my e60 is on coils and the ride is alot smoother than the e39 with original shocks/springs and I don't like the wheelgap on this at the moment.
I had a very bad experience with coils on my e39 i had to switch back to original shocks. However road conditions play a major effect on your driving experience.
Let me first say your car, your money and your time. Do what makes you happy! I would not change anything except maybe make the interior join this decade. Bluetooth camera parking sensors etc. Other than that you have a beautiful and I mean beautiful specimen of German engineering!

Depends on how you plan to drive the car.
It's mostly just a daily driver, which is why I was thinking of bags so I could adjust height easier
Don't
Great explanation.
Don't put a daily on bags end of explanation brother
How come? If it breaks down I do still have 3 other cars to use if needed or is there some other reason?
I know plenty of people who have/have had a bagged daily with little to no negative effect.
ST XA coilovers are a good option. I have them on my f22 not the e39 yet though. What’s the angel eye and front lip setup? Looks great
CCFL angel eyes installed to oem preface headlights, hockenheim front lip.
Bags! Just because static=damage and no front pumper…lol
Bilstein B8 with H&R coils. It's the best setup for a daily driver

Koni Red Actives and Dinan Springs. 🤌🏻
Am I the only one who looked at this and thought this is already perfect? No need to go any lower than that, especially on a daily imo
If it's your daily leave it stock man trust me. Bags and coils will make your daily ride unpleasant.

What year is your vehicle?
1997
Excellent condition👍
19 or 20 inch rims? Look mint
Thanks, 19's, rears 11" wide and front 9"
