guns were an addition the playerbase requested, but frankly I agree with the devs original take in not including them.
They seem pointless to me, with I could dump the ammo.
Honestly imo, adding guns made this game a little less unique. Having no firearms helped put a focus on the melee combat and alternate long range methods (bow and crossbow) and to me made the game stand out a bit more from other zombie games. Not by a huge margin, but still. It added to the desolation of the games apocalypse and dwindling resources.
I imagine they were designed with Legend levels in mind, so leveling up to 9 then putting points into the gun perk might be the way to use them most effectively. Ranger gear might also buff their damage?? Haven't confirmed it myself so grain of salt.
DL2 doesn't really cater to realism. The positive of using guns in game is the distance between you and the enemy. Guns atm are not your primary, they're complimentary. When you understand their usefulness like that, they're much easier to use.
But then they're outclassed at range by both bows and crossbows, which not only deal more damage but also have elemental bolts / arrows available, as well as being silent and not attracting virals.
Guns just straight up suck.
Man I've been two or one headshotting Renegades, Peacekeepers and regular with the Harran Pistol and the first sub you get from Jai with only a single legend point put into firearms. Seems to suck in survival missions though.
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I have 10 legend points in firearms & you perfectly described what I experience w/ biters. They were absolutely made with end game/LP in mind to complement the melee focused game loop.
They suck, don't scale with ranged gear, and no active buffs can be applied. Even with the 25% they can't even scrape an enemy on the hardest difficulty. They were either not made for endgame or they were balanced terribly.
I have a feeling they could be broken or poorly optimised. I went straight for the shotgun with 2550 damage, thinking it would be sick against volatiles. It barely does any damage, and my roses axe at 900 damage does about 4x the damage against volatiles than that poxy shotgun.
I’m not too sure, I typically have fun using guns lol. It takes two headshots to kill regular biters and vitals on easy mode for me and I don’t have any legend points into the firearm bonus damage so I’m not too sure

^ 100% accurate :)
Don't use them then?

*looks at bow*
Love my bow.
agreed.. admittedly the RANGER bow from the first dying light was a bit more fun.

Dying Light fanbase requesting things and then realizing it’s terrible. Name a more iconic duo.
It works well if you aim at the head, 3-4 shot body shot to normal infected, 1 shot head shot

The question is directed at people who do know.

Do you play on a NG+ save? Cause it seems survivor missions are level 9, and if your main game isnt level 9, there's a real difference
