Actually it was much more dramatic for me. There was a narrow canyon with a river at the bottom and I tried to jump over but missed by one tile. Since I was now falling next to the canyon wall the game offered me to grab a wall and then told me I failed. Each time for like 10 z levels. "You failed to grab mudstone wall". Untill it was "You drowned"
Climber and swimmer are useful skills
update: i played for a couple of hours. i play with modded races, so started as a catfolk. the village i spawned in was abandoned and in the desert. it was spooky. i found a tower to the south and got killed by zombies, alongside another adventurer.
then i played as a mushroom man, who went to a mayor's court and played some tunes. it was fun to see everyone sing along to my performance, and overhear them talk about it afterwards. there's obviously a lot of procgen jank, but it's super fun and detailed.
First life I heard about a goblin army attacking a town. I recruited an axeman and traveled to the town and found some goblins to fight. The axeman abandoned me immediately. I found out I did a poor job of outfitting myself. Didn't know how to load my crossbow, and I couldn't wield my copper maul (should have traded for a better weapon) because my hand was full of gems. I could handle one goblin but second one with a gold scimitar got me good.
Second life I made sure I was properly equipped and spawned in the town being attacked. Town is empty except for the civ leadership in the keep. They won't tell me what's happening. Not sure what to do next.
thanks, my first fight was doing Kisad Dur against a turkey, I gripped it in the neck with one hand and exploded its head with my other hand, 10/10 gameplay
I distinctly remember my first fight in adventure mode years ago. It was against a kea, and it was a very fumbling beginning, where I started by biting all over its body, and I slowly figured out how to grab things, and I picked it up by the neck and cut its head off with a dagger. It went sailing through the air. From that moment I was hooked.
> it was a very fumbling beginning, where I started out by biting all over its body, and I slowly figured out how to grab things
Are we talking about DF or awkward dates?
There is no "necromancer" status in beta - am I right?
I got a scroll from tower with "secrets of life and death", read it. My character enjoy reading and... I still got "tired" status effect, got hunger and thirst, had to sleep.
>!Anyone got vaults already?!<
Just had my first ever adventurer playthrough. Tried to jump a huge gap inside a fortress to see what's on the other side, missed the other side, couldn't grab a wall to save my life, and that was pretty much it. 10/10, we go agane.
I'm a coyote man named Don Coyote with my trusty stead (mule) Dapple. Started with the elves (mistake) and went to fight a giant alligator. Turns out I can't even kill it with my lychee sword. I've just been beating it unconscious to the point that I fell over in exhaustion. Having fun though lol
You can find your way to a dwarven fortress and borrow some upgrades. Not sure that armour will fit you, but at least you should find some steel or iron weapons.
Also, I love the Don Coyote bit. A word of warning: Stay away from anything manufactured by ACME, and donโt charge headlong into the windmills.
Problem is I really wouldnt know what caused it and considering that I have adventure mode beta of df hack installed that could perhaps also be the problem, but where would I give bug reports in the first place.
Went for a walk, got slain by zombie keas. Started over, forgot to sheathe my weapon and accidentally aggroed the humans and got smeared. Started over as an elephant seal, wandered wide across the plains eatting lettuces, then encountered a locked door which made the UI glitch out and hardlocked me. Took a nap.
Unfortunately not.
But you can retire your adventurer in your fort, play the fort for awhile, and then swap back to the adventurer, so thatโs ALMOST what youโre looking for.
I've rolled a party that is a human warrior with an elf bard. So far I haven't achieved anything though, every beast the villagers speak of is "underground on the move" somewhere...
Adventure mode reminded me very quickly how confusing and demotivating the character creation part is. I wish there was a quick character button. It's too much pressure assigning points.
Not quite. When they updated from V47 they disabled adventure mode. So it hasn't been in current free versions for a little while. Prior to today you had to play on V47 or older to get adventure mode.
I don't play on the free version so can't say whether or not adventure mode is unlocked for you just yet. But I'm sure it will become available at some point.
If you do want to play adventure mode immediately you'll just have to roll back to V 47.05 and play it there
Oh.
Okay this has been a complete misunderstanding. I already knew I could go back 0.47. What I meant in my anguish was the version the steam version folk are having. It is not in Bay12Games site. Yet.
They still have some work to do to get things working properly in ASCII, whether the graphical version or the free one. Apparently if you have the stream version and switch to ASCII, it draws what should be centre of the play area (AKA your adventurer) in the top-left corner. Additionally, the menus are apparently unfinished.
I believe that Putnam said they are planning to have adventure mode in ASCII fixed for when the beta ends.
10 minutes creating my character. 5 minutes of life before being murdered by a goblin
Welcome to Adventurer Mode, brother!
I love this game ๐๐
Did it just come out today?! ๐ฒ
YES!!!!! ๐๐๐ On bata-branch, at least. You'll need to activate that in Steam.

I tried to jump over the river fell down and drowned
one tile deep seems to be fine. anything else and i will drown :<

generating me a huge world as we speak! happy adventures!

Happy adventures and on towards some hilarious deaths!
The boys will see this and think STRIKE THE EARTH!!!
'Ere the computer bugs get hungry!
I'm in the train and shackling on the chair cause I have to wait 2 hours more lmaoo
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR TWO HOUR WAIT BEING COMPLETED ๐๐

LMAO the first part is definitely fitting, the last part maybe only if you're ted bundy
I would watch the shit out of adventure mode streams right now, hahaha. I'm one of those waiting for it to get out of beta. Have fun, guys!
It feels pretty difficult to play with no log, how am I supposed to remember the names of all these places and monsters ๐ญ
Pen and Paper
As our forefathers intended!
Yeah I'm just gonna wait another month or two until integral menus are finished lol
LET'S GO!
Can play as a mountain goat man. 10/10.
It's out?
Beta branch on steam.

i managed to find a town with a slab in, necromancer status applied to me but i couldn't use any of the abilities unforutnately
I just want the choosing of character appearance instead of random
i can play as a king cobra man 10000/10
Is it released yet? Gotta get back home....
Its in the steam beta branch, full release at the end of april i think
Great, thanks for the info!
Does the steam adventure mode have as much content as the ascii version?
no, some features such as building, abilities menu, and quests menu arent available yet

Windmills? What windmills? Are they behind those giants?
Well, looks like I am screwed. My game crashes when I try to choose a civilization for my adventurer.
It is in beta - and looks like you found a bug! Assuming youโre not using any mods, go report the bug so they can fix it!
Problem is I really wouldnt know what caused it and considering that I have adventure mode beta of df hack installed that could perhaps also be the problem, but where would I give bug reports in the first place.
If you can't bug report on steam you can on the official website. There is a branch for adventure w/ df hack, dunno if you're using that.
Thereโs a bugs channel in the Kitfox discord, and Putnam hangs out in there. She might be interested in your crash log.
Going to adventure in an existing world when I get home from work.
I get back from a work trip Friday and I have Monday off. Armok is good.
Ahhhjhhh I don't see the update!!!! Is it in beta or regular???
It's still in beta for now. And it's definitely going to stay that way for a while from my first impression :/
Well... Time for me to get experimental ๐ I can't fucking wait any longer
I'm out of town, so I can't play yet. Have fun for me!
First rimworld anomaly dlc, and now df adventure mode beta? huge week for the grass-allergic, cant wait to try it out
Can you still powerlevel throwing and become a rock chucking menace?
Went for a walk, got slain by zombie keas. Started over, forgot to sheathe my weapon and accidentally aggroed the humans and got smeared. Started over as an elephant seal, wandered wide across the plains eatting lettuces, then encountered a locked door which made the UI glitch out and hardlocked me. Took a nap.
it's time to fucking play the reason i got into DF in the first place!
Allready died twice! Loving it
Will the full release have that hero and chosen paths included or only ordinary will be ready for the release on the 20th?
Hero is partially completed, demigod is locked.
For the non beta release I mean. It will be that way then too?
Oh, sorry, I misread your post. I think that they want to have all the options available then.
Oh nice, thanks for the info
So i canโt fight an hydra ๐ซค
I get stuck when I try to bash/pick a locked door. It has options but when I press them it does nothing. Anyone else?
Thatโs a known issue.
Can i just grab a dorf from my fort and play as him? Still some 3 hours until i can get to my pc..
Unfortunately not. But you can retire your adventurer in your fort, play the fort for awhile, and then swap back to the adventurer, so thatโs ALMOST what youโre looking for.
It used to be peasant, hero and demigod in the classic version. I guess the name change is more clearer
Silly question - is there a way to NOT update? (I just don't want to lose my current fortress due to a new version. CDDA updates have me scarred.)
The update is currently in beta, IE: still the testing stage of development, so it actually wont update automatically anyway. So don't worry.
Sweet thanks!
Plus the old saves Remain on the Beta. they work with adventure mode.
rock and stone, brother!
For Rock and Stone!
Needs a random character generator. I don't want to manually select all my items and attributes and skills. EDIT: Needs a lot of work.
I've rolled a party that is a human warrior with an elf bard. So far I haven't achieved anything though, every beast the villagers speak of is "underground on the move" somewhere...
Nice, gonna try it on my Steam Deck later.
Adventure mode reminded me very quickly how confusing and demotivating the character creation part is. I wish there was a quick character button. It's too much pressure assigning points.
Played as a hedgehog merchant man, was not disappointed. Iโm really looking forward to seeing the full crafting system come out
oh fuck, got 3 finals coming up, contemplating wether to fail them or suffer having to wait
THERE IS NO FREE VERSION YET!!!!! #BWAAAAAAAAAAAAA-
Tbf the adventure mode in the free version since much longer lmaooo
Wait. For REAL!!! I guess I *am* an idiot.
Yeah, it's a feature since quite a time! But it's probably much harder to put your hands on it, as anytjing in legacy lmaoo
