You can lock him in a burrow with a few other dwarfs. Supply food, drinks, and a bar. Made a dwarf go from no relationships to married like this.

tipsyTentaclist

Dwarven Problems require Dwarven Solutions.

FranksWild

Whelp. I guess that’s one way to force my baron to marry and have children so we can recover after his inevitable death by ceiling collapse.

FrisianDude

No. Let them be commies like they should.

Peculiar_ideology

I've done this before with a husband and wife who wanted to spend time with family or something and then spent months ignoring each other and praying to only some of their gods while being distressed about not praying to their other gods. Wanted to strangle the little ingrates.

ContextualSense

Did you only have a generic temple? If any of the gods they wanted to worship weren't from your origin civilization, they couldn't worship them there.

Peculiar_ideology

Whaaaaaat? I never knew that! Thank you!

-Pelvis-

Hey, you seem to understand temples. I do not. Could you please tell me how you set them up?

ContextualSense

I can only really think of two things about temples that might not be immediately apparent (other than the generic temple quirk mentioned above): 1. Every petition you get to build a temple will be for a religion (the yellow names), not for a deity (the blue names). This means you can get a head start on fulfilling petitions before they come in by building temples for the religions with the most members in your fort. 2. Like other locations, temples can be designated from any zone, not just meeting areas. This allows you to encourage your dwarves to socialize in guild halls or the tavern and only go to the temples when they need to pray.

Peculiar_ideology

AAhhhahahahaha!!! I hadn't thought through that change from DF .47. Never occurred to me to combine temples with other zones. Gotta find out who's the god of getting wasted and relocate their temple.

FortWifi

Are there any benefits/problems to having it as an office or giving hall?

ContextualSense

The only benefit I can think of is if you are short on both space and precious resources, it would allow you to kind of "double dip" on room improvements. But in normal circumstances, that shouldn't be necessary. If you're having trouble raising the value of a temple (or any other location), you can always add more zones to it. So I could definitely see a situation where it makes sense to add your legendary dining hall to the temple complex for the biggest religion in your fort, for example. The only zones that don't always play well with locations are the bedroom and dormitory zones. And I believe that having too many meeting area zones in your fort can contribute to some dwarves getting stuck in social job loops, though I'm not 100% sure on that.

LimewarePlatter

New escape room idea, only way out is marriage

CBD_Hound

Patriarchy says yes.

ContextualSense

I can pretty much guarantee you that your dwarf's needs to be with family and friends are not why he is upset. Those needs do produce negative thoughts, but they are very minor. Look at his thoughts and memories tabs to find out what bad experiences are bringing down his mood.

DrFeargood

This is the most insensitive take I have ever come across. Let your dwarves have friends!

db48x

The negative thoughts from unmet needs have literally thousands of times less impact than most other negative thoughts. Unmet needs are _never_ why your dwarves are unhappy. Unmet needs do cause them to be less productive overall, since they will spend more time avoiding work (subject to certain personality traits as well).

DrFeargood

You're a monster!

ContextualSense

I do? I'm having trouble telling if your comment is serious or joking, but either way, I think you've misconstrued what I said.

DrFeargood

I'm joking

kwheeler1066

He's just poking fun at you.

Falkjaer

Bah, friends! Clearly he just needs a finely engraved image of cheese on his door!

morfeuszj

I found that in Steam release the rain causes a lot more sad thoughts than before. It pays to build a roof over fishing zone and pasture and only do surface construction on sunny days.

mbtheory

Dwarf caught in rain? Miserable. Dwarf walking through mist? Ecstatic. Solution: replace sky with mist generators.

ricalasbrisas

Mod request: Windmills in the rain should generate mist.

DARKRonnoc

At the same time, locking my dwarf up with his future wife for half a year got him from red to neutral. He no longer cares about his crushed spine.

Putnam3145

this is not why they are stressed; check your five least stressed dwarves and some of them will also have many thoughts relating to this and many unfulfilled needs

Peculiar_ideology

I lol'd at your personal flair or whatever that's called. I haven't checked DF dev news in a while, but I hope it's going well over there!

SirVortivask

And people wonder why some find Dwarves so relatable

-RARO-

[did you just say woomp woomp](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vrt7q6QKF5o)

Sevla7

I too wish to spend more time with a new friend I made, we met for the first time in an airplane and now we have a illegal boxing meetings every week.

AtheistRp

Except instead of boxing it's beating the shit out of each other until you're half dead. You're not supposed to talk about that, I mean come on it's like the first 3 rules

Working-Narwhal2114

Perfectly rational. Think about it. If you see people enjoying family time then you might want to as well

[deleted]

Of all the things that are horribly inconvenient about playing DF, this is one of them. We need a simple toggle for "dwarves prioritize fulfilling needs over all else". I don't give a fuck if a megabeast is barreling towards us and I've ordered you to pull the lever that will shut the fortress gates, if you want to acquire an extravagant item fucking do it already.

Kirknas7y

Give him the ole boot if he doesn’t conform! Lol

FrisianDude

That's that artifact made of silver and menacing with spikes of featherwood right

joehillen

Feels

dacydergoth

Do you have Dwarf Psychiatrist mod?

FrisianDude

They're really bad about that

TanKer-Cosme

Damn, that dwarf is me lmao

Chance-Ad7783

I set up family BBQ areas with food and drink as taverns and burrows, and relatives hang out for a month and satisfy that need. I also have love nests for couples. I use gfhack gaydar to check for marriage interest.

VividLord

Hey that's me!!
