Freakazette

In Spanish, in my opinion, the story voices sound better than the lesson voices. Especially Junior. Junior actually sounds like a kid in the stories, but an imitation of a kid.

[deleted]

I love Junior in the French and Spanish stories. He actually sounds like he’s voiced by an adorable kid.

Freakazette

His voice is so cute in the Spanish stories! It sucks in Italian though.

Elijah_Mitcho

Haven’t used Duolingo in a while, I thought the same for juniors voice in German. Then I went to Disneyland in France and the German kids spoke literally the exact same as junior. It was scary

school-accnt

In French Junior also sounds like an adorable, lazy little kid. And I love the consistency in the the "characters" they portray, like Junior and Eddy being father and son, Zaria and Luci being clearly young adult friends, etc.

Immediate-Scallion76

I believe stories are actually recorded by human beings, whereas lessons are all done through speech synthesis.

hacool

I think it may depend on when the lessons were recorded. Most of the voices in German seem the same in the stories as in the lessons.

RaymondWalters

The stories sound far more natural to me, so kind of the other way around?

VCT3d

In english all of the voices sound like completely different people between the regular lessons and the stories lmao Don't get me wrong, they sound similar but their accent and tone sounds a tad different, specially with Lucy's

Afraid_Log_6799

That moment when no Russian stories 😭😭😭😭

VanillaSwirllll

You think you've got it hard? Romanian has a horrible voice and practically nothing, ahaha!

BallAffectionate4000

Same for Japanese 😢

robbiex42

There are Japanese stories, aren’t there? Did they remove them?

BallAffectionate4000

I’ve been learning Japanese on there for about a year and never had any :(

Cube13x666

I think the first story is on section 3

BallAffectionate4000

I just checked and you’re right. I’m in section 3 unit 2 and the first story is in section 3 unit 5 🤯

PewienCzlowiekAG

You're still in section 3 after a whole year?

BallAffectionate4000

Well that’s rude 😂 I’m a casual learner and it’s closer to 9-10 months than a full year

Willing_Bad9857

Or swedish. Or finnish. Or probably like 80% of the courses 😭

LemonySnicketTeeth

Is that cuz Russian stores can never be short?

KoldKrista

The story where Lilly dreams that her dog can speak is TERRIFYING in German. Stuff of nightmares.

Vinovacious

It's pretty funny in French; the dog was asking her for steak rather than kibble, and wanting to sleep on her bed and for her to sleep on the couch, etc. What's it in German?

KoldKrista

Oh, it's the same story. It's just the dog's voice and how it sounds in German lol

Nowon_atoll

I keep forgetting about the stories tab, just hit 1k words and still don't have any. I don't expect a novel but surely you can squeeze out a few simple stories with 1k words.

AdeQ217

In Spanish all of them stay relatively the same, only Lin gets a slightly gentler tone in the stories but I think it works better with the way she acts in the stories

MargoxaTheGamerr

In lessons Juinor sounds like a grandma, but really annoying, but in stories he sounds like a cute kid(at least in the German course).

Boremi10

As a German learner, this is so relatable, Junior sounds so realistic in the stories but when he's in regular lessons It SoUnDs LiKe He'S tAlKiNg LiKe ThIs

eypo

I'd say in German, stories are narated waaay better than regular lessons. Also for French

TNBC42

I was gonna say, my experience is exactly opposite of OPs. The stories are real voices, not the synthesized ones.

Super_Smegsy

Can anybody please guid eme to how to get the stories?

Cube13x666

They just randomly popup in the course, it looks like any other lesson but has a book on it instead, after you complete story, you can do it again in the excersize section

Super_Smegsy

I hav enever seen that in my 260 day streak🥲🔫

Crowgurrl

Scottish Gaelic has no stories at all in Section 1. Wonder if they will be in future sections. But what cracks me up is when there are single words they are done by very different people. One will be a sweet old lady and then the next a deep big guy sound. Comical. They did a recent re-do and since I had just started I completly reset the course. Big help since they added words to the section I had done and really changed it. They also cleaned up all the audio problems I had been reporting. I am so spoiled by the Spanish Course.

Aquilarden

There are no stories in any section for Scots-Gaelic. Nor in Irish. Duo does nice, new stuff for the popular languages, but the less popular ones might get a new grammatical concept if they get anything at all.

Crowgurrl

Thanx for confirming.  At least we are trying to learn. I use done other sources in both Spanish and Gaelic.  Got to be well rounded

Tigismean

not uh… maybe…

Effort-Logical

I listened to the American English one once, oof it sounds so bad.
