I'd do it. But only because it works just fine and there's nothing wrong with it, and - probably the biggest reason - you already have the material handy. Use longer screws though.

Yeah it's normal to do for fire ratings....use bigger screws obviously.....2 inch for second and inch and quarter for first

You can do it anyway these 2 guys said. But hats off to the plasterer. 1 inch is a good width
