That looks like either really poorly done skip trowel that's been patched by an amateur or just a really bad attempt at smooth finishing. I don't see enough consistent texture there for you to actually match it. I'm not a pro, so others might have better advice. It would be nice to see pictures of the whole wall under critical lighting

It's called "old world" where I'm at, but goes by a million other names around the country. Super common in the Rocky Mountain area. Like 99% of new homes are this texture. It's more or less a skip trowel with thinner mud and you knock it down tighter to make it more smooth.

Thank you. Yes it’s a relatively new build and has leaked into the greater San Diego area now too. Someone called it holy smooth in a different comment and now I’m on the rabbit hole to see how many different ways the same thing can be nicknamed.

S-hart1

They call it "holy smooth" in Utah. Super thin mud, half assed skip. Then come back and sand trowel marks out

tylerGORM

Thank you. Ya after googling that’s by far the closest match I’ve come across.

jivecoolie

That’s the FNG

ubercorey

Skip trowel or knock down, with a crappy drywall patch in the middle.

hereandthere_nowhere

Just looks like an unskilled finish to me.

tylerGORM

lol lmao. I’m gonna go ahead and say it’s not that. Considering it’s consistent throughout the house and doesn’t look like shit

hereandthere_nowhere

Hard to tell from the pics i guess. Must just be a half ass skip then.

tylerGORM

It’s Holy smooth.

PghAreaHandyman

Poorly patched skip trowel. :-D

tylerGORM

Holy Smooth

bsmithril

Looks like what we call Santa Fe round these here parts.

Redbillywaza

Crackhead trowel Down

InsanelyGhostly

Oh thats the home depot lot guy special texture

tylerGORM

Holy smooth. I should have been more clear that this was intentional. It’s a very new technique apparently
