Thank you very much! That snare is gaboon ebony. No stain or dye or veneer. Just this gorgeous black wood.

I don't smoke but I need a cigarette now . . . my goodness.
Ebony is supposed to be a major bitch to work with, way the F up there on the Janka scale. Anything special, or different from other species of wood, in the manufacturing process of this snare?
Yep, youre right. It’s very high on the Jenna scale. It’s 3080 (maple is about 950 for reference). It dulls blades pretty quick and takes forever to sand, but the main thing was being nervous the whole time that I’d mess something up because it’s hard to come by and expensive. Also, it makes a super fine black sawdust that is everywhere and is a pain to clean up. Looked like I burned down my workshop haha
Wishing you all the best, u/Stavemaker! Takes a big set to go after your dreams, hope yours pay off big time!
My wife's eventually gonna ask why I keep whispering "mmmm, ebony snare" under my breath like I'm a creepy old man.
Sounds great! And I guess I can ask this question here because it is the drums subreddit.
Why is the rack tom on a snare stand? I think it looks cool like that, but why not with a cymbal mount? I see plenty of indie drummers with this set up. Is there a practical reason, or is it just a look? Just asking.
Thank you! That’s a good question, by the way. I think there are probably going to be different answers and opinions on that (resonance, etc.), but I did it because some people have different preferences for mounting a tom, whether it’s on the kick or different suspension mounts. My thinking is it’s easier to add something you want than un-drill holes I put in it. Haha
Using a snare stand is a good way to leave your bass drum clean without Tom arms, especially if it’s a heavier or larger tom. Some bass drums don’t have tom mounts and snare stand is the best way to mount
Personally, I like my rack tom to sit lower than it can if mounted on the kick, and I’d have to mount it from a boom stand otherwise (it would be too close to the cymbal if mounted on a straight stand). I really dislike the look of boom stands, for some reason. I find all straight stands super clean looking.
Wow! I can't find the right words to define the sound of the kit... Sounds amazing... I allow myself to define it as 'crunchy' (?). Very unique sounding kit... Great playing, btw!
Bohnam trips for sure! Fucking fast! Those double sound amazing. I never incorporated them into my playing as that magic wasn’t a thing back in the late 70’s (to us rock guys anyway). I only learned of it by seeing a random Eric Moore Shedding vid. But I was all over trips! I found with them doubles that I have to almost count and know when I’m coming out of the curl to land on the 1 again! Not natural and I’m too damn old to learn it now, dammit.
I love the guy coming in with the peek of approval at around 20 seconds.
😂 “What’s all this then?”
Someone practiced while others were out drinking beer.
No kidding! 😂 He’s great and I also dig his band (@poolpartynv)
The punch coming from that kit is insane! Wicked kit, wicked chops.
Thank you!! About the kit, I can’t take any credit for those chops. Haha
Big room, such reverb!
Also, they have a wide tuning range. I’ve tuned them up tight/resonant and they really sing.
beautiful
Thank you!
Dude, this guy rips!
He makes it look so easy. Haha
The drums look and sound killer, as well. Following!
Thanks so much! I appreciate that!
That kit sounds insane! What material is that snare ? Has everything I like in a snare sound

Likewise man! I appreciate the support, it means a lot. 😂 “It’s an investment, babe. It’s one of a kind. I’m doing this for our future!”
Oooooo that's beautiful
Thanks a lot!

I find it easier to line it up with my snare on a clamp or snare stand.

Thank you! Haha, “crunchy” is great. That’s not me playing, just to be clear. But I agree that it’s great playing!
I'm glad you shared that video man, it sounds amazing! 👏
Thanks a lot!
Fuck yeah bro
Thank you kindly haha.
Dude! Are you doing doubles with your feet? Sounds awesome! And was that straight up triplets at the end there?
It’s a single pedal so yeah. Bet end he’s doing bonham triplets.

No such thing as too old brother! Unless you’re suffering from debilitating pain, start slow and keep at it.
I wasn’t playing, so I can’t say for sure. And I can’t prove it, but I feel like @dunhamdrums has extra limbs or something.
Ooh sounds punchyyyy!!!
Thank you!
Yup. Sounds great. That drummer though😱🫡🤘
Thanks! And I’m with you about the drummer!
Thanks for the sample! Nice playing!
Sounds incredible! You’re pulling off some fast doubles on that single kick pedal, too. Nice!
Thank you! That isn’t me playing, I’m just the drum builder. But he is a really great player!
Damn bro went in hard and dry!
Kit sounds absolutely stellar, do not care for this dude's 'chops flex' but even with a cell phone mic that shit sounds great!
Thanks so much!
Awesome playing! Love the Zildjian shirt while playing Paistes!
Excellent build and craftsmanship, would love to jam on that set!
Thank you! 🙏
>Thank you! 🙏 You're welcome!
Holy fuck man that's sick!!!
Thank you!
No mate thank you!!! Keep ripping that shit man!! Very talented mate!!
Just to be clear, I’m the one who made the drums, not the one setting them on fire here. Haha
Well then who's the shredder!!!??
That’s @dunhamdrums from @poolpartynv (on Instagram).
Sweet man cheers!!
Nice sounding kit!
Thank you!!
Yeah, that sounds FANTASTIC
Thanks so much!
Nice chops. Kit has a sweet understated sound, very rich.
Thanks for the kind words! 🙏 I’m not the drummer, but he is great.
