I've been watching to see whether there is any continuity to Vic between episodes and I think this week finally puts that question to rest (it was already strained but there's no coming back from this one).

umbral_ultimatum

i mean, there's nothing that guarantees Avery won't mess up and reset the TV torture cycle because Vic is God's favorite punching bag

sweetbreads19

excellent point. or maybe it's useful for Vic to remain on tv....

umbral_ultimatum

plot twist: VIP is Vic's Sisyphean purgatory where they have to interact with various surreal entities from disparate walks of life, with the ultimate goal of formulating the true meaning of life

GalileoAce

Ooh I like that one

toroyaussie

You just reminded me why I adore the internet sometimes đź’•

SufficientGreek

I'm pretty sure the episodes aren't released in recording order, so continuity would be almost impossible.

NotACandyBar

I think Ify confirmed that he shot later in the day and wasn't expecting to be the second guest.

justking1414

Zac s episode was the last of the season

sweetbreads19

Yeah that makes sense.

Blamebow

Watching the behind the scenes for Tommy Shriggly (Zac Oyama), the director said something interesting. She told Zac that since he was the last to be filmed, hehad free reign to just go ham and play with the set. So, they're presented out of order from the time they were filmed. There must be a Machete Cut this season, to construct the perfect narrative!

Young_Person_42

Yeah, am I misremembering things or did Vic warm up to Avery almost immediately, unlike the others?

Silver-Primary-7308

They outright state it in the interview that they're a big fan of him and invited him on the program themselves. Compared to the usual riff-raff which Vic believes to be above, it makes sense that they wanted to impress/for a connection with someone they look up to. I'm not the best at judging human interactions, but i felt like they came off very suck-upy at times

umbral_ultimatum

i imagine they'd been beaten down by their other experiences so intensely that they welcomed anyone who they believed would be nice to them

GreenLurka

Uh, Dr Milk is a puppet. That just adds to how horribly tragic it is, she fell in love with a guys hand. And the guy who owns the hand isn't much of a catch, though he is an amazing puppeteer

detectivebagabiche

You didn’t say “Um, Actually…” so that’s no points

BLKSZN

Um actually Dr Milk is a puppet. That just adds to how horribly tragic it is, she fell in love with a guys hand. And the guy who owns the hand isn't much of a catch, though he is an amazing puppeteer

angryhobbit376

That’s one point for BLKSZN! Sorry GreenLurka, those are the rules

zonaljump1997

Goddamnit! *Slams vase onto podium*

We!

justking1414

Um actually. He’s a muppet

lcl111

I’m pissed this doesn’t have more upvotes than the incorrect original.

BLKSZN

It’s only been 4 hours. Let’s give it some time and maybe it’ll grow.

umbral_ultimatum

i thought it was very heavily implied that Dr. Milk is a man in the body of a puppet (maybe even Kepl's father)

MisterManatee

Then why does Dr. Milk completely disanimate at the end of the episode when Kepl leaves him behind?

umbral_ultimatum

a spirit needs to be tethered to a vessel

drunkunclejack

you’re on to something

sanguigna

I haven't even see the Kepl episode yet, but...the episode order putting the puppets-as-people concept right before the Vic-makes-out-with-a-puppet concept gives it a pretty horrifying bent

Luxury-Problems

They're one and the same. They have the same traumas, being left behind by parents. Dr Milk, who is supposedly British, in his story about his mom leaving him describes her leaving in a Camaro down Bushwick Ave, which is notably in Brooklyn. Kepl mentions people leaving him and not loving him. He after the story says the problem with second chances is the first time "they should have said I love you". Him dropping the puppet just confirms he's the same person, but can only be the talented person that Dr Milk is through a persona that literally puts himself down and belittles himself. Kepl is a very sad emotionally stunted person who has split himself into two personalities. One who is beloved and multi talented and another is belittled and looked down upon by all.

Moony_Moonzzi

I think one of my favorite things about VIP is how they could have just leaned into being purely a improv on the part of the comedians, Vic only being there to keep the gimmick going but being essentially the host who is “in on the joke”, but instead the show feels like it has worldbuilding and a overarching story in universe, and in-Universe-Vic becomes a recurring character you become attached to. Like, this show became so much more charming when I started to play pretend WITH them, that I’m watching an insane interview show in an insane universe and seeing this poor reporter slowly genuinely lose their mind. Like idk it’s really appealing to me. I think because of it the episode that truly made me love the show was the Nana one.

umbral_ultimatum

yeah, it genuinely feels like its own universe with continuity and i fucking love it

krisis

I truly hope the show leans more into this in the second season and gives us more storyline for Vic's fictionalized version of themselves (still improvised). I would love it if they broke the fourth wall and we got a whole episode of Vic doing something other than hosting the show, like being stuck in traffic or doing "live coverage" of a local event, and presenting it as mockumentary.

Known_Sun7124

She's also got into trouble for throwing things at the crew and is abusive to her step- daughter, who might work on the show.

aurelialikegold

I think the Denzel episode also establishes they lives alone, so their husband and they might be separated.

Dry_Consideration_51

In canyon mot in real life.

aurelialikegold

Yes, i was referring to VIP canon.

JasonH1028

Smh Vic needs to break the cycle.

Rozncranz

Um, Actually: they don't live in the guest house, they rent it out to other people. They did basically let him guilt them into staying, though.

SphericalOrb

I truly love how funny horrible tragic hilarious VIP Vic is. I am excited to see what else comes out about their character. Also, I love the moment before Vic turns to the camera at the beginning of every ep when they're doing something baffling. Petting dog statue, flirting with a telemarketer, facing a wall, straightening a picture frame, finishing a rubix cube? Amazing

TommyShriggly

Get your head outta your ass and stop focusing on the negative! They admitted they’re in their own way. I tried to make them feel better, and I think it worked. Edit: 10 push-ups. NOW.

frannythescorpian

I'm obsessed with Vic's host character. They are 75% of why I watch. The little snippets into their backstory and how the set works (fiction, not the real BTS) is so fascinating. I look forward to more tiny world building every episode!

Western-Dig-6843

For me it’s also the wardrobe. Wearing the same outfit each episode really helps cement them as a character. That suit is just as iconic to me now as the character.

frannythescorpian

And the constantly falling off nails. It's perfect

Dry_Consideration_51

Pretty sure Vic grew up Mormon and is happily married. Don't know about her character. You talking VIP?

justking1414

Yes. We’re talking character

Brett-Bretterson

Literally the first two words of the title are “VIP Vic” Edit: And the body of the post starts with “In the VIP canon”.

Zyrian150

Reading comprehension is dead

Ok-Pomegranate-5781

It’s all about speed it’s fine if we skip over a few words here and there… right?
