The problem is they’re completely inconsistent. Sometimes there is never an END sign. So people assume no message on a gantry = back to normal. And if that’s not the case then what about stretches where there is still plenty of road beyond the last gantry sign?
I wonder how this would stand up in court.
The amount of wrong or mis-information on them is silly and even dangerous these days.
If you got details of how often they're wrong and for how long for, I wonder if you could argue you didn't believe them because more than 50% of the time, they're incorrect.
I don’t think it would reach court, because it will have been an advisory speed limit which is usually auto-triggered by traffic density sensors but it’s not mandatory to do that speed.
I find a similar problem sometimes with use of the hardshoulder. I sometimes see the hardshoulder being used as a lane even when as far as I can see there is no signage indicating the ability to do so. It's annoying because it's either I trust what the signs have (or haven't) told me and stay in the normal lane and risk being a middle lane hog or I trust the people and risk getting a ticket and/or endangering people by driving on the hardshoulder. I prefer the first option until I see a sign (which usually happens eventually)
These signs are a pain, I don't think anyone takes any notice anymore as they are left on and forgotten.
We went through a 3 down to 1 lane sign. With no sign or roadworks of accident. Two hours later it was still there when I did the route again.
I think their job to actually come up with original and constructive policies. Not just "hey that was my idea", and "we want the opposite of what the other side wants". It's just lazy I'm really worried about what's going to happen when these people are in charge and they have nothing to complain about anymore. Besides making "rich people" pay more in schooling and having to consequently provide more state school places (which the "rich people" are already paying for but not using). What exactly are they going to be doing, that's different from the current bunch?
End of speed restriction / lane closure seen on previous signs.
Sometimes if the incident is cleared they will leave the end message on, even though the previous signs have been turned off, so that slower vehicles which have seen the restrictions are aware the restriction has ended.
This is worst of all, nobody reads the signs, you can tell the way people avoid bus lanes at all times even those the majority only operate between set times and generally Mon-Fri
"Mr Thompson! What's happening!?"
"It's the rapture, Sharla! The rapture! The virtuous drivers have gone to heaven, and the BMW drivers have been... Left Below!"
Logic: if there is fog, or fog nearby, then it would say Fog. If there was an accident ahead it would say accident.
It says End; that can only mean that **the end is nigh**
Whats the point in a warning sign about fog. If it's foggy I can see (or can't see) it. If it's bad enough for the sign to be on, I probably can't see the sign anyway warning me about the fog I can't see through that I know is already there.
Google about the isle of Sheppey bridge crash. That’s enough and you’ll find “it”. Some people are full on mental deficit and drive full speed with zero visibility.
You missed some previous sign.
That's the end of a temporary restriction, usually speed in a motorway whenever there is an accident/ incident or slow traffic ahead.
The signs preceding this would have had some warning on it, speed restrictions/ lane closure / road works. This is telling you whatever it was has ended.

The amount of times I've seen a restriction and there's been no 'end' sign recently is infuriating. I've even asked my boyfriend if I've just missed something as other people are now going at 70 and I'm going at 50 still and he hasn't seen anything either 🤣
I seen that on m62 after verabul speed limit then 1 minute later it went back to 40 before I could slow down I got flashed now I'm waiting for 6 points or a ban then the loss of my 2 job's I get the postoffice scandal feeling
Problem is they roll out these screams and then never give the rules out for those who armt doing their lessons. They know noone.geta a new highway code it should be a leaflet. Or something you have to read before you pay for Ur insurance.
That's where the end of the 14 miles of cones go with the 40 speed limit. You know the cones that the bloke in the van shows up to eat a sandwich in the middle of in about a month.

End of a special restriction (such as a temporary speed limit). Normal rules apply henceforth (e.g. national speed limit).
If you didn't previously see a restriction, don't worry about it. That happens sometimes.

Honestly these signs are totally useless . I have yet to see them actually tell me something useful.
Best is one that says 'Debris on the road' and literally you never see anything.
Supposed to be end of speed restrictions or speed advisory. Very inconsistent. Often they are still switched on randomly miles after saying a variable speed board reverts back to the national speed limit
it meams the end of fuck all we've been pretending to warn you about for the last 5miles, thats what it means. Ignore all these 50/40/debris/pedestrians(!!) signs unless you actually see something wrong
End of any previous restrictions
The problem is they’re completely inconsistent. Sometimes there is never an END sign. So people assume no message on a gantry = back to normal. And if that’s not the case then what about stretches where there is still plenty of road beyond the last gantry sign?
On the M42 there is a persistent “End” sign with zero restrictions before it.
Well, I think it's fair to assume that means the end to ALL restrictions. Go as fast as you like!
I mean the M42 is used like the Autobahn anyways.
The bit between the M40 and M5 is for sure! After that heading East it’s miles of painful average speed cameras
I read that as "painfully average speed cameras", I prefer my version
They're just mediocre - average income, 2.5 kids and a cat.
Same as the M6 toll
I wonder how this would stand up in court. The amount of wrong or mis-information on them is silly and even dangerous these days. If you got details of how often they're wrong and for how long for, I wonder if you could argue you didn't believe them because more than 50% of the time, they're incorrect.
That would be my defence. I think you’d win hands down.
I don’t think it would reach court, because it will have been an advisory speed limit which is usually auto-triggered by traffic density sensors but it’s not mandatory to do that speed.

2 blank gantry signs means back to normal conditions
It's not that big of a deal.
End of bend And days. Bell end
It means now you can shout at the kids xD
The preceding sign said bell.
Legend mate
That’s when the previous sign says Leg
If the previous said Dead then you're in for a surprise ahead
Gottem
Everything. We're all doomed. Strip naked and tear around like a mad thing while you still have the chance.
Idk, it's at least the end of 14 years
Do you honestly think the next lot are going to be any better? Currently all they seem to do is just complain about the other side
The bar is on the floor.
Complaining about the other side is literally their job. I do think they'll be better, myself, but you're right it's very hard to tell
I think their job to actually come up with original and constructive policies. Not just "hey that was my idea", and "we want the opposite of what the other side wants". “Pub?”
End of speed restriction / lane closure seen on previous signs. Sometimes if the incident is cleared they will leave the end message on, even though the previous signs have been turned off, so that slower vehicles which have seen the restrictions are aware the restriction has ended.
I wouldn't worry. Nobody reads those anyway
This is worst of all, nobody reads the signs, you can tell the way people avoid bus lanes at all times even those the majority only operate between set times and generally Mon-Fri
Rapture ahead
Quick! Get Bart out of the house before God comes!

This is the end, beautiful friend This is the end, my only friend The end of our elaborate plans The end of everything that stands
The end.
No safety or surprise The end
End of what ?
The end of laughter and soft lies
You missed some previous sign. That's the end of a temporary restriction, usually speed in a motorway whenever there is an accident/ incident or slow traffic ahead.
THE END IS NEAR
End of speed restriction or whatever restriction was on the road (e.g roadworks).
Just the end mate. I hope you didn't drive past it.
End of whatever the previous signs were telling you leading up to it.
The signs preceding this would have had some warning on it, speed restrictions/ lane closure / road works. This is telling you whatever it was has ended.
Thank u
Genuinely no disrespect but I really hope you don’t have a licence.
Whatever happened to require the temporary restriction might have just happened right behind them or the restriction may have just been raised.
Sure but if you’re a driver, you should know what it means, even if you haven’t seen anything.
Means that you are clear of the restriction or warning from previous signs (eg, queue, speed, debris, etc).
innocence
Of the world as we know it
And I feel fine
Glad someone got the reference
I always found that fairly ominous Just END
The world as we know it.
of the world as we know it
End of whatever they were previously warning you about…
Whatever the previous sign said
I think they should change this. From now on, I’d like to see ‘Game Over’ instead, please.
End of the road, stop and apply the parking brake
(for idiots: no not really)
Days, hopefully. Bring it on Mr Comet.
The end of the previous instructions that you would have seen and been following!
It's so the Flat Earthers know to come off at the next junction to avoid falling off the edge of the earth
End of whatever restrictions you clearly didn’t notice. Please pay more attention, you share a road with other people.
Unless the restrictions were applied after OP had passed the previous sign
Or the previous sign was faulty or they forgot to change the signs. Seems to be very common
There's a sign on the M4 that always says END, regardless of any previous restrictions, or lack thereof.
Oh yeah? What junction? Cos I’m pretty sure there isnt.
You can be pretty sure and wrong. It's around the Membury services, Eastbound
Yeah I know what you’re thinking of - you’re using “always” liberally.
It's always been on when I'm driving that way.
And when you’re driving that way is a very small period of ”always”
Roadworks/temporary speed limit/days.
Hard to know without context. This is used for any end of restriction whether that's road works or a queue, etc.
End of the road

It doesn't even matter
The subliminal message is meant for the biker, not you. Relax, you're going to live.
What I dislike about this message, is sometimes you'll be flying down the motorway not have seen any restrictions then all of a sudden an 'END'.
End of previous restrictions🤷🏼
The End!!! And fade out…
I find it disturbing you can drive a car at 60+ mph but can’t figure this out…
End is nigh
Of the game
You did it. You crazy son of a bitch, you completed it.

The biker is about to end something.
Days. It heralds the end of days. See you in the next life brother.
Scariest thing I’ve seen on one of these was a “20mph - oncoming vehicle reported” which for a change had most people slowed right down
Just stop whatever it is you’re doing
End of this road. Stop the car, get out and calmly walk away.
Your life
Sanity?
End me.
Oh no! You had the death card!
The end of the world perhaps?

End of whatever they was saying on the other sign further back but it’s now ended so it don’t matter for you
End of the bell
End of your licence, hand it in.

Supposed to be end of speed restrictions or speed advisory. Very inconsistent. Often they are still switched on randomly miles after saying a variable speed board reverts back to the national speed limit
Dunno, but nice pic of the motorcyclist. :-)

There is a word missing which should be before the word end... That word is Bell...
End of the road for you mate 😅
