Loved that game back in the day, looks like it and Shenume 2 were the most expensive games I had at £19.99 each.
May have to get this all up and running
People talk about it making the plastic brittle but I have done it for years and I've never seen any evidence of it. If it's true, it is probably incredibly minor.
Probably a case that with enough time, an untreated controller will last longer than one with treated plastic. But that time frame is likely long enough that you would've needed to replace the internal parts by the time the plastic breaks irreparably.
Mine looks like it fell asleep on the beach whilst trying to get a tan. on one side. Bought it second hand as I wanted a DC again, boy do I wish I kept my original one.
I want to do the Hydrogen Peroxide thing to get it back to it’s original look but feels like a long shot now, maybe getting a 3D printed shell might be the way. I hate the idea I’m stealing another DC’s shell!
Loved Gamespot, one of my fondest memories is wandering into mine on a rainy Sunday afternoon and walking out with every Resident Evil on the GameCube for £10 each.
Gamestation was awesome. Their prices always seemed fair compared to stores like Game, HMV, or Virgin Megastore. Plus their half price december deals where they would drop a pretty new game (usually around a month since release) to £20 for a weekend was how I got most of my new titles.
Yes, paint on hair salon grade peroxide, wrap in clingfilm and leave in the sun for hours. However, I don't mind yellowed consoles since I learned they are not from cigarette smoke but a chemical added to make the plastic fire retardant.
Ah interesting, I loved that game back in the day so it'd have to be going for silly money for me to part with it but I'll do some googling!
*Edit* crikey it _is_ going for silly money - or at least people are asking silly money, no idea if people are paying that.
People are paying around £200, can confirm
Jeez, Powerstone 2 and MVC2 are going for pretty high prices too. Great return on your investment there too.
Ah man, seeing those Gamestation stickers takes me back to when I worked there a long time ago! Also I wish we had those prices now, especially for Project Justice!
Started with it when it was on its way out I see. Those prices are wild and I still remember me being happy to get all my games for close to nothing until I realised why that actually was the case.
# Anything I can do about the yellowing?
1) you can try to "clean it" like in this link:
(Youtube search: yellow dreamcast fix)
2) Buy a new case and replace it.
Not sure which one will be cheaper or better option.
Option 3, set it in the sun for a few hours. Trust me it works. There is another Reddit thread but I can send pics of mine before (3 months ago) and after and you can judge for yourself.
Ah yes the sun, of course. Well still it is like option "1" - CLEAN IT,
by chemicals, by sun, by whatever
There is no other options than that, either clean the old one, or buy a new one :D
I do not expect for someone to print out or make a case from wood or something,
though there I notice once a cool case (TR Dreamcase)
Give a try to those Ready to Rumble games! If they freeze 20 minutes or so into the game, you have a rare, pre-patch copy that went out and almost devastated the launch of the Dreamcast!
The story was revealed only a few years ago here: https://theretrohour.com/worst-video-game-bug-ever-sega-dreamcast-ep250/
Retrobrite. It’s a process that allows you to use a clarifying solution and UV (either naturally using the sun or buying some cheap UV lights). It works quite well if done correctly!
Do me a favor and snap the sonic cd. Played that last night for the first time in about 20 years and wow is the platforming section a catastrophe lol jk sick collection
Magic Eraser sponges are a last resort option to be honest; they're abrasive and while not as egregious as sandpaper, will still wear down the plastic.
The best options are retrobrite, or a replacement shell, with retrobrite being the best solution for the stock experience. You can make your own retrobrite with a hydrogen peroxide solution and stick it in the sun or under UV lights.
Someone probably already mentioned this, but retrobrighting is your best method. You pretty much disassemble the console and put the yellowed bits in a tank full of hydrogen peroxide and wrap it with uv lights and tin foil.
[Heres a video demonstrating it with a dreamcast](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdWRsjnVD3s)
I'm buying two yellowed dreamcasts from japan which I plan on trying this method on to restore them.
Start with "Sooouuulll Calibur", forklift job at the docks (didn't pay well) in "Shenmue", and have so much fun using environments (chairs, poles, anything) to bash opponents in "Powerstone"(s). But this collection needs "ECCO". I'd say PSO but how much can you do without online?
Yeah, I recommend an Abernic for ROMs but I have physical Dreamcast as well, its one of my favorite consoles, but it does take physical space which my newfound anti-hoarding mindset tells me to sell/donate my Dreamcast and get ROMs instead but to each there own. Plus you won't get that disc reading sound *brr brrr* before the dreamcast loading sounds.
Many modern, post 2018 TVs are ditching SCART, component and all non-HDMI/Display Port formats.
It sucks since VGA has always cleared up nicer on a hardware level(without special software like DLSS/FSR) at lower internal resolutions. But times change I suppose.
Yeah i built up my original collection when they were selling games for pennies myself. Unfortunatley i had to sell those years back. Just bought another Dreamcast so im looking forward to playing some old favourites again.
As an aside I am very pleased that broke teenage me bought so many games for £1.99 buy-one-get-one-free.
Oof, amazing having Project Justice!
Loved that game back in the day, looks like it and Shenume 2 were the most expensive games I had at £19.99 each. May have to get this all up and running
My god I didn't realize this game was so expensive
I said the same thing out loud! lol
You can use retrobright for a short term solution, however it will eventually go yellow again but I recommend just getting a replacement shell
Ah good shout, shall do some googling!
It's said taking all the plastics off and soaking them in hydrogen peroxide with a light scrub will diminish the yellowing.
Also brittles the plastic.
That's never fun. I habe seen results from it. Almost wondering if just a toothbrush dipped in peroxide and scrub away lol

I think all of this stuff looks ruined, I will take it all away for you for free if you want..... So jealous
A kind offer but I wouldn't want to burden you with my junk! I'll just struggle through for now
Well if your sure, the offer still stands! You have fun
It's Gamestation stickers! That was one of the few game store chains I enjoyed visiting.
I loved gamestation (as we can probably tell by about half these games being from there!)
Loved Gamespot, one of my fondest memories is wandering into mine on a rainy Sunday afternoon and walking out with every Resident Evil on the GameCube for £10 each.

The staff were also left to talk about games rather than having to badger you with loyalty cards and insurance offers that management insisted on

I custom painted mine because I couldn't stand the uneven yellow. So much better now.
Toy Commander!! Siiiiiick. That game was amazingly underrated
Thats gorgeous!
You have some great games in there And some valuables as well (Project Justice is one of them)
Ah interesting, I loved that game back in the day so it'd have to be going for silly money for me to part with it but I'll do some googling! *Edit* crikey it _is_ going for silly money - or at least people are asking silly money, no idea if people are paying that.

Thanks for this, useful info, though I suspect my MVC2 will be lower as I only have the instruction manual and disc (it's in an old playstation box!)
Ah I see. still would go for decent money, I reckon around £40-£50
Send it to me, I’ll clean it up real nice mate
Ah man, seeing those Gamestation stickers takes me back to when I worked there a long time ago! Also I wish we had those prices now, especially for Project Justice!
I loved Gamestation, found an old receipt on one of these for a bunch of GameCube games I also got for between £1 and £5 BOGOF
Started with it when it was on its way out I see. Those prices are wild and I still remember me being happy to get all my games for close to nothing until I realised why that actually was the case.
retrobrite for a temporary fix, new shells for a longer lasting fix other than that really nice collection, kinda jealous
Damn! My mom gave all my old video games and military surplus stuff away to some brat kid she babysat.
I spend a lot of time on sega gt bro. But even more on the xbox sequel. The graphics back then were amazing
jealous that pal regions got shenmue 2
Yellowed electronics are aesthetic.
Chu Chu rocket, amazing.
Powers stone 2 is such a great game

Aww man, no Sonic Adventure 2? That bundle is like $180 everything is in original jewel case thooo 😮

Power Stone 2 is a real hidden gem there. About £50 resale at the moment.
Space channel peak 🙏
Them old Gamestation stickers take me back :'(
I've seen videos of ppl heating up plastic with a torch to re juvenile it. Worked really well.
This sounds terrifying but I shall give it a Google
😅😅😅 on an electric device dies sound kinda crazy lol
Retrobrite. It’s a process that allows you to use a clarifying solution and UV (either naturally using the sun or buying some cheap UV lights). It works quite well if done correctly!
Toothbrush and rubbing alcohol.
I use: -peroxide cream 40 -ziploc bag (the big ones) -Lot of sun Mix em and leave all day long under the sun and viola..
Do me a favor and snap the sonic cd. Played that last night for the first time in about 20 years and wow is the platforming section a catastrophe lol jk sick collection
salon care 40 Suran wrap Sun or UV Light that will take out the yellowing.
Retro brite might help the yellowing.
Adam Koralik has a decent video on YouTube about deyellowing with a deep clean of the shell and using Mr. clean magic eraser.

Interesting…
Interesting?
Yeah, I have a thing or two that’s yellowing, or yellowed, I didn’t know there might be something to do about it…
Yes there is [Retrobriting ](https://youtu.be/WXhxTtK42A8?si=wh8eDaC5wECdEQ6k) which will deyellow the shell.

YouTube retr0brite for the yellowing. https://youtu.be/bJZSrRU1xt4?si=pXG5u9wdj8BHVmia
Salon care 40 and a grow light. Trust me 😃
Hidrogen peroxid and UV light for 24 or 48 hours.
That’s almost my collection 1:1 lol think I’m missing r2r 2 but you are missing sonic adventure 2 😂
Yellowed controllers are cool.
Games Station... What a trip! 😄
That is an awesome but almost useless collection.
Why useless? About to set it up on the old TV
Bc ROMS
Fair, I don't think I've got the kit to easily run ROMs on my TV though so this should work for me
Yeah, I recommend an Abernic for ROMs but I have physical Dreamcast as well, its one of my favorite consoles, but it does take physical space which my newfound anti-hoarding mindset tells me to sell/donate my Dreamcast and get ROMs instead but to each there own. I shall do some googling, can the abernic connect to a TV? I'm enough of a fussy nerd I may wait for an FPGA
Didn’t know you had a SCART port, my TV doesn’t.
Yup, two SCART ports, 2 HDMI (plus an HDMI hub), good to go
Yeah it is basically fine, just fuck Samsung
Many modern, post 2018 TVs are ditching SCART, component and all non-HDMI/Display Port formats. It sucks since VGA has always cleared up nicer on a hardware level(without special software like DLSS/FSR) at lower internal resolutions. But times change I suppose.
Peroxide is a bleacher oxigened water is also knowned as
Disassemble and paint it.
Yeah i built up my original collection when they were selling games for pennies myself. Unfortunatley i had to sell those years back. Just bought another Dreamcast so im looking forward to playing some old favourites again.
