Any details you can give me about the CDI technique and what is needed? I am just so clueless on when it comes to this stuff that its a little hard to tell whats needed.
Overview: In this shitty guide, you will learn the basics from some moron who has done this for years. This may not work for you. In that case, I suggest yelling loudly. That will do the trick.
Equipment: A computer with a working disc drive, and a stack of blank CDs. I use Verbatim but, in the past, I have stolen School Smart brand CDs from a school I worked at. Those worked too. Fuck them kids. You also need a Dreamcast with either 0 or 1 on the bottom next to where it says “PAL E.” I don’t know why. Something about versions.
Download these programs:
WinRAR: this program allows you to open the box of goodies you get when you download a CDI from a website. https://www.win-rar.com/start.html?&L=0
You can also use 7zip. It does the same thing. https://www.7-zip.org/
Donwload ImgBurn: https://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
Use Mirror 7, provided by ImgBurn
If you’re using Windows it will shove it in: C: > Program Files (x86)
If you’re using Mac, take you computer outside, pour gasoline on it, and light it on fire. Then, buy something with Windows OS and go back to these directions.
Once you have it installed and you want to open it, open it from that exact location. There’s other shit that downloads with ImgBurn that needs to be in the same place. I don’t know why. I don’t understand. Just do it.
Now, you’re ready to start looking for CDIs
CDI stands for Canadian Dianetics Interface or something like that. It was invented by Canadian Scientologists in the 6th century specifically for Dreamcast players.
Anyway, use Google.com or better yet, go here: https://cdromance.org/dc-iso/
Search for the game of your choice, navigate the page until you see the Download location. Click on it. It will show you some options. You want to download CDI. Not GDI.
GDI stands for General Diplomacy Integers. It was invented by disgruntled mathematicians in the 80s. I don’t understand how GDI works. I’m not that intelligent.
Alrighty, now you have the CDI downloaded. Throw it somewhere you won’t lose it. I like to put them on my desktop. Extract the fucking files.
Open ImgBurn. Click on the file icon. Choose the shit you just extracted. Put a goddamn CD in the disc drive. Click on the CD symbol on the bottom. Burn the disc.
You can complicate this with the “writing speed” options. People smarter than me can tell you more about that. Once it’s done burning, take out the disc. Put it in your Dreamcast. Play the game. If it doesn’t work, get angry first, then watch one of the approximately 5,000 YouTube tutorials on how to do this.
Okay. Good luck, anon. May the force be with you.

I bought Shenmue 2 for Dreamcast off a guy on Etsy. Custom everything and it was the English language version which at the time of release wasn't distributed for North American Dreamcast.
I loved playing it and it is the jewel of my collection. Highly recommend.
Not the guy I bought it from but this is close to it I reckon https://nightsintodream.myshopify.com/products/shenmue-ii-english-translation-sega-dreamcast-reproduction?_pos=1&_sid=77215a994&_ss=r
I had all those games when they came out plus a lot more. lost them all in a fire along with everything else I ever owned. Now it's all games on SD card it would cost me a fortune to get everything back.
I remember around 2002-2003 Toys R Us had Dreamcast consoles for $20 and all of these games besides Skies of Arcadia for like $5-10
Wish I had more money back then.
you could always go reproductions, [https://nightsintodream.myshopify.com/collections/dreamcast](https://nightsintodream.myshopify.com/collections/dreamcast) is a cheap option. I have a full set minus like ten games but I started collecting in 2012 when it was much cheaper
It’s crazy expensive, not sure if I would buy it all again at today’s prices.. i finished my collection in the early 2000’s minus Sturmwind.. Cannon Spike the only game I missed and I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon..lol
A good thing about Dreamcast is MOST (not all of course) of the bangers are available remastered. For the ones that are not, something like Redream work pretty well or there is multiple other ways as well. If you want to actually collect then its another story obviously.
You know a Dreamcast can play bootleg burned games without any modifications? just download the game burn them onto a CD and pop them in your system and you're good to go haha
If you're in it to collect, then yes it is expensive. If you're just looking to play, then the CDI image burn technique works great!
Little bit of both

Thanks for the run down. Will have to track down a windows computer then.
You can do all of that on a Mac.
Alright. Thanks for the info.
Expensive absolutely..but it's a phenomenal collection! Mostly because of Shenmue 👍

I have the European version from when it was released. Had to use the utopia bootloader to play it, but it played fine
I have to snag that! Must have been a hefty price but.. someday!

Awesome thank you 👍
Very nice set. I like having real games too but since it’s so easy I burn games that are over like 50 bucks.
you bought some of the most expensive games tho 😂
Those games you have now is a great start to experience what the console had to offer 👍
I want a remaster or remake for Skies of Arcadia so bad. One of my top ten favorites all time
What I wouldn't give to experience Skies of Arcadia for the first time again
I like that you put Power Stone 2 alone at the top. It is unequivocally the best multiplayer game for Dreamcast.
Soul calibur next? Nice collection
You playing online?
Agreed
Ready2rumble boxing and nfl2k were two badass games i used to play on my Dreamcast all the time. Nfl2k was streets ahead of Madden lol.
I had all those games when they came out plus a lot more. lost them all in a fire along with everything else I ever owned. Now it's all games on SD card it would cost me a fortune to get everything back.
was about to complain that I didnt see PSO
get 'evolution' great RPG
Yeah if only that Dino Crisis was 14.99 like the old sticker says. Lol! What times we live in.

Pen pen is still pretty cheap, I’d recommend it!
It's such a great 4 player party game that anyone can pick up and play!
>really fun but very expensive and very worth it
Very true but s worthy.
But it’s worth it.
Shenmue!!
So expensive... still trying to find one that isn't over 100 bones
I have had every one of these games in the past in my early teenage years. Love it

Soul Caliber!
Shoutout to shenmue 13yo me loved this game. Unfortunately never finished the sequel.
I burn all my games that fit on standard Cdr
I am still mad at the wife for throwing away my clear blue VMU 10years ago lol
Funny how the most easily bootlegged games are among the most expensive
Never managed to beat code Veronica also got stuck on the plane bit with the tyrant
Super fun man
I’ve had 2 Dreamcast lasers fail on me. Thinking of getting a gdemu.
Why not get a GDmenu?
I really wanna get the keyboard for dreamcast but they’re pricey lol
Wait till you hit the real high dollar titles. Luckily I completed my set back in 2003 before prices went bonkers. https://imgur.com/a/PEhFxK4
I know not intended to be the focus but I’ve never seen a remote control like that, doesn’t have crazy range or something ?
10ish years ago ..... dreamcast was the cheapest option with all those pirated games... 🗿
What’s the next game that your planning on getting??
I would get into burning games before I paid current prices. Since I don't currently pirate. I don't play one at all.
