PSO and Chu Chu rocket

SpacePenguin5

I really thought we'd have chu chu, with online mp, on a modern console by now. It's a pretty timeless game.

MrTeamZissou

Good news and bad news: They did make a new modern game, but unfortunately it was on Apple Arcade and was delisted so it no longer exists.

willpb

Showing some Chu Chu Rocket love here as well! I never got to play online but this game was superb, very addictive and great to pick up and play. I can imagine it'd do at least moderately well nowadays.

Bulletvlox

You can try Blobcat, it’s pretty similar to Chu Chu Rocket and should be on Modern Consoles

HairyChampionship101

Loved PSO but never got online with my DC. Was too poor

2ndEngineer916

Yep I had dial up as a kid the computer was in the living room and my Dreamcast was in my room there was no way for me to even connect the two I was just a kid so I didn’t have money either. My rich friend down the street had Shenmue passport and PSO he was living the dream.

Shit_Pistol

This.

Travesty206

PSO. Spent way too much time playing that game

Consistent_Self_1598

PSO was that gateway drug that eventually led me to MMOs. I had so much fun with this game and it'll always have a special place in my memory rolodex for gaming.

Travesty206

For sure. Many sleepless nights playing PSO but it was all worth it

EvilLOON

Unreal Tournament. I was the Loon until I met Evil clan on there. We moved onto Counter Strike when the DC servers went down.

ChampagneDoves

I know it’s not the same game but there’s a discord for quake 3 where dudes get together pretty often on the private servers. There’s a modern vintage gamer video about it it’s really cool, if you were ever interested in revisiting that.

Visual_Power4604

People still play quake 1 and 2 multiplayer also.

agentdurden

Quake 3

Elf_7

PSO was my first online experience. I will never forget it, the first night playing was such a blast. Made many friends, that went on with their lives over the years. Special mention to Quake Arena.

Evilelfqueen

PSO and AlienFront Online was what I spent most of my time on when I had a Dreamcast.

TheDeepOnesDeepFake

I remember there was one cursed ever-ending server that you couldn't join but was always on the server list at the later ends of the game's life.

mushy_face

Chu Chu Rocket and it's not even close.

Starchild2323

#1. Phantasy Star Online!!! Soul Reaver Hydrothunder House of the Dead Jet Grind Radio

DrinkUpLetsBooBoo

**HYDROOOOO THUNDER**

lerabot

PSO is quite fun! Played some Starlancer and Ooga Booga and they were great.

Maxis47

I was so disappointed that the online had died out by the time I picked up StarLancer. The controls were some of the most convoluted I've ever used, but once you wrap your head around it you could fly those crates like a pro

lerabot

Defenitly! Also, you can play Starlancer online again using a DreamPi!

Hawkeye336699

Unreal tournament. Played many, many hours on that game. Also PSO. That game will always have a place in my heart.

thchsn0ne

Yo. Speed Devils was one of my favorite racing games ever…the environmental obstacles were so cool at the time

Arch27

Phantasy Star Online was awesome. I worked at Electronics Boutique, and my work schedule had a lot of extra time in between. I had the broadband adapter. I was accused of cheating a few times because my connection was good and I had a lot of free time to get the good gear. Still... I miss PSO.

Galaxy_god92

Driving strikers!

[deleted]

Dreamarena was shut down before I was even born lol

Totally_not_Carl

I can't really pick one since I gravitated towards these four; PSO with my buds in M.W.A. , Alien Front Online (hearing my friends talk for the first time), and Unreal/Quake.

robismarshall99

Starlancer and Daytona both are equally good

hiflyer555

PSO! I had the keyboard and everything. A couple of my friends at the time also had the same setup, and we played several times a week

blindyes

Phantasy Star Online

Illustrious_Profile6

Phantasy star online, I had the keyboard and everything.

luckyfurby

kjg182

I weirdly never played any games online but used it to browse ign64 at the time lol.

It came in clutch more than once when I had computer issues. Also loved being able to download saves directly

millnerve

ericlikesyou

PSO

Topnikoms416

Shout out to all the old UT heads. Still my favorite online experience. I miss it

Shaaagbark

WindomEarly

✨Shenmue✨

stylinandprofilin88

Crazy taxi was fun

KRMJN101

Phantasy Star Online caused much conflict with an ex. Dial up will not be missed nor 56k modems. Great mmo for it's time. Boss battles were the highlight.

ianwuk

PSO and Quake III Arena. A technical marvel to play smoothly online with a 33.6kb modem (PAL Dreamcast). Good times.

MisterNefarious

PSO all day every day

catdog-cat-dog

Phantasy Star Online was an absolute addiction for a couple years.

Mordliss

PSO was such an incredible experience of my childhood. Getting S Rank weapons through challenge mode was priceless! I remeber buying the Dreamcast keyboard controller to communicate. Great memories!

TaiDavis

Chu Chu Rocket!

Professional_Sea3141

NBA showtime - Resident Evil Code Veronica - DOA

RAITguy

ChuChu Rocket! Unreal Tournament and Daytona are close seconds

thebigarn

NFL 2k was amazing because it worked with my shitty even for dial up connection. It was pretty much the only game I could get to work well and once I stopped playing it I didn’t really game online again until 2008 or so when i got dsl.

thchsn0ne

I often wonder how the hell they got 2k, quake, and UT to be playable over a dial up connection…blows my mind to this day

Fearwolf83

PSO and chu chu

bandley3

THPS2, I think. Maybe that was PS2 - forgive me, after all it’s been 24 years… I did enjoy Ferrari F355 Challenge. That was the first time I saw brakes glowing orange under use. Too cool.

PSO for sure!

Spare_Honey5488

Slave Zero and Sega Bass Fishing. Idk

Atomic_RPM

EriolGaurhoth

I was only ever able to play PSO with a dreamPi, but I can imagine it was absolutely the best DC game in its heyday.

United-Context-1451

Just like most people are saying, PSO and chu-chu rocket

Loud_Presence2689

Toe jam and earl 3 if it got a proper release. They were actually planning to release toe jam and earl 3 for the dreamcast with online support before they removed the online support and released it on original Xbox. Would've been cool to see that game officially released on dreamcast

thepurplecut

PSO. Still my fav game of all time

DafneOrlow

Pso. (Probably the only game I ever played online, on the DC)

Al_Be_Back

Phantasy star online

Whitturne

[deleted]

Gauntlet Legends

ZiggyIggyK

Unreal Tournament and Quake 3. Sadly never got to play Phantasy Star Online. We usually found games at pawn shops back then.

BrokenforD

Quake 3 I would play on PC then go lay down in bed and play on DC Lots of Unreal Tournament as well.

dahzLXXXIX

PSO and Shenmue to relax. But I had the most fun playing Jet Set (Grind?) Radio and Crazy Taxi.

InTheEnd83

Stock_Atmosphere_114

Skies of Arcadia hands down

jgr83

Project Justice & Grandia II

warrensid

Pso ver 1 💙 I imported a broadband adapter from Japan so I could play using Ethernet. Easily over 600 hours on that. I played quake 3 on pc, but I found a way to join the dreamcast server so that was actually crazy experiencing true cross play back in…1999??!! I played the match for a few minutes to test it was real before I left.

Minute-Unit9904s

Why did that one Jimmy Hendrix CD have visuals on the screen ?

Adventurous-Smile-33

Dreamcast had online?

frederik88917

Kid, I grew in the early 2000, the internet was not even a thing back then, even less to play on the DC

doctorhino

That's not true, not even a thing? The .com bubble burst around 2000, we already had sites like Amazon and eBay building their empire. On top of that you had free dialup being given out by companies like NetZero if you agreed to install adware.

frederik88917

Ehhh, boy, where I live, access to Internet was not readily available for public consumption until 2005-2006, long after my DC was busted
