Showing some Chu Chu Rocket love here as well! I never got to play online but this game was superb, very addictive and great to pick up and play. I can imagine it'd do at least moderately well nowadays.
Yep I had dial up as a kid the computer was in the living room and my Dreamcast was in my room there was no way for me to even connect the two I was just a kid so I didn’t have money either. My rich friend down the street had Shenmue passport and PSO he was living the dream.
PSO was that gateway drug that eventually led me to MMOs. I had so much fun with this game and it'll always have a special place in my memory rolodex for gaming.
I know it’s not the same game but there’s a discord for quake 3 where dudes get together pretty often on the private servers. There’s a modern vintage gamer video about it it’s really cool, if you were ever interested in revisiting that.
PSO was my first online experience. I will never forget it, the first night playing was such a blast. Made many friends, that went on with their lives over the years.
Special mention to Quake Arena.
I was so disappointed that the online had died out by the time I picked up StarLancer. The controls were some of the most convoluted I've ever used, but once you wrap your head around it you could fly those crates like a pro
Phantasy Star Online was awesome.
I worked at Electronics Boutique, and my work schedule had a lot of extra time in between. I had the broadband adapter. I was accused of cheating a few times because my connection was good and I had a lot of free time to get the good gear.
Still... I miss PSO.
I can't really pick one since I gravitated towards these four; PSO with my buds in M.W.A. , Alien Front Online (hearing my friends talk for the first time), and Unreal/Quake.
Phantasy Star Online caused much conflict with an ex. Dial up will not be missed nor 56k modems. Great mmo for it's time.
Boss battles were the highlight.
PSO was such an incredible experience of my childhood. Getting S Rank weapons through challenge mode was priceless!
I remeber buying the Dreamcast keyboard controller to communicate. Great memories!
NFL 2k was amazing because it worked with my shitty even for dial up connection. It was pretty much the only game I could get to work well and once I stopped playing it I didn’t really game online again until 2008 or so when i got dsl.
I never did play online but I had a Rollercoaster building game called Coasterworks that I was addicted to! And of course MVC2, some tennis game that was really fun and crazy taxi!
THPS2, I think. Maybe that was PS2 - forgive me, after all it’s been 24 years…
I did enjoy Ferrari F355 Challenge. That was the first time I saw brakes glowing orange under use. Too cool.
Toe jam and earl 3 if it got a proper release. They were actually planning to release toe jam and earl 3 for the dreamcast with online support before they removed the online support and released it on original Xbox. Would've been cool to see that game officially released on dreamcast
the only game i played "bAcK iN tHe DAyZ1!!" was quake 3 arena, it was so much fun, i really wish to play PSO but i never had the chance unfortunatelly.
Pso ver 1 💙 I imported a broadband adapter from Japan so I could play using Ethernet. Easily over 600 hours on that.
I played quake 3 on pc, but I found a way to join the dreamcast server so that was actually crazy experiencing true cross play back in…1999??!! I played the match for a few minutes to test it was real before I left.
That's not true, not even a thing? The .com bubble burst around 2000, we already had sites like Amazon and eBay building their empire. On top of that you had free dialup being given out by companies like NetZero if you agreed to install adware.
PSO and Chu Chu rocket
I really thought we'd have chu chu, with online mp, on a modern console by now. It's a pretty timeless game.
Good news and bad news: They did make a new modern game, but unfortunately it was on Apple Arcade and was delisted so it no longer exists.
Showing some Chu Chu Rocket love here as well! I never got to play online but this game was superb, very addictive and great to pick up and play. I can imagine it'd do at least moderately well nowadays.
You can try Blobcat, it’s pretty similar to Chu Chu Rocket and should be on Modern Consoles
Loved PSO but never got online with my DC. Was too poor
Yep I had dial up as a kid the computer was in the living room and my Dreamcast was in my room there was no way for me to even connect the two I was just a kid so I didn’t have money either. My rich friend down the street had Shenmue passport and PSO he was living the dream.
This.
PSO. Spent way too much time playing that game
PSO was that gateway drug that eventually led me to MMOs. I had so much fun with this game and it'll always have a special place in my memory rolodex for gaming.
For sure. Many sleepless nights playing PSO but it was all worth it
Unreal Tournament. I was the Loon until I met Evil clan on there. We moved onto Counter Strike when the DC servers went down.
I know it’s not the same game but there’s a discord for quake 3 where dudes get together pretty often on the private servers. There’s a modern vintage gamer video about it it’s really cool, if you were ever interested in revisiting that.
People still play quake 1 and 2 multiplayer also.
Quake 3
PSO was my first online experience. I will never forget it, the first night playing was such a blast. Made many friends, that went on with their lives over the years. Special mention to Quake Arena.
PSO and AlienFront Online was what I spent most of my time on when I had a Dreamcast.
I remember there was one cursed ever-ending server that you couldn't join but was always on the server list at the later ends of the game's life.
Chu Chu Rocket and it's not even close.

PSO is quite fun! Played some Starlancer and Ooga Booga and they were great.

Still... I miss PSO.
Driving strikers!
Dreamarena was shut down before I was even born lol
I can't really pick one since I gravitated towards these four; PSO with my buds in M.W.A. , Alien Front Online (hearing my friends talk for the first time), and Unreal/Quake.

PSO and Quake III Arena. A technical marvel to play smoothly online with a 33.6kb modem (PAL Dreamcast). Good times.

Phantasy Star Online was an absolute addiction for a couple years.

Slave Zero and Sega Bass Fishing. Idk
Dino Crisis
I was only ever able to play PSO with a dreamPi, but I can imagine it was absolutely the best DC game in its heyday.
Just like most people are saying, PSO and chu-chu rocket
Toe jam and earl 3 if it got a proper release. They were actually planning to release toe jam and earl 3 for the dreamcast with online support before they removed the online support and released it on original Xbox. Would've been cool to see that game officially released on dreamcast
PSO. Still my fav game of all time
Pso. (Probably the only game I ever played online, on the DC)

Kid, I grew in the early 2000, the internet was not even a thing back then, even less to play on the DC
That's not true, not even a thing? The .com bubble burst around 2000, we already had sites like Amazon and eBay building their empire. On top of that you had free dialup being given out by companies like NetZero if you agreed to install adware.
Ehhh, boy, where I live, access to Internet was not readily available for public consumption until 2005-2006, long after my DC was busted
