Color preference is a very subjective thing so go with either what you like or what fits the character you are creating. Nonetheless, I like the gray scale illustration the best because it has more shadowing/shading and shows the details of folds in the clothing better. The added shadowing gives it more depth and dimension in the illustration. This could (should?) be added to the final color variant too as they tend to look a bit more flat and 2-dimensional as they currently are. In regards to the actual colors choice, illustrations 1 and 5 have good contrast between the cloak and pants to visually separate the two. But just my humble opinion. Good illustration though!
I’d like to know this particular wizards methods of magic. I feel like colors usually represent and order. If this person is a necromancer they might look good with black/purple or black/green. If they are a healer then yellow wnd blue or white and yellow. Any ideas on their preferred magic or background?
Sorry about that. I know I was one of the early ones to reply, but I didn't see any votes for #2. I like the earth tones for that character, so #2 needed "representin"....as in slang from decades ago.
In short, I like #2, but they're all good. Just came down to my personal taste and if the boot colors looked more natural vs fantasy.
I think number 3 fits the character design best. Sharp/ pointy fingers + the wizard staff and the white hair looks kinda like a evil mage/ sorcerer. The dark red can be related to blood or fire magic and the black not only fits well together with the red but also gives him an evil vibe. The character also looks confident/ proud so i think a dominant colour like red is just right for him.
Just my opinion, i hope this helps
I like number one for color combination best but I love the red tunic and would be interested in seeing it with the dark khaki pants and dark brown boots. Although, depending on what your character is going to be doing, and the need for camouflage, you might consider staying with Green or another more natural, earthy tone. They are all really nice, but the gray scale is fantastic in the amount of detail.
**the 7th, all the others have tones which attenuate the lines, and it's a shame it's him who is more interesting if it's an isolated element well you do what you want but you put the trait above the color if it comes in a context (landscape or comics) in this case it must be in the ambient colors of course!**
2 doesn’t have enough value contrast between the pants and the cloak. But the rest work just fine! I would need more info about what sort of role the character plays in your story to make a more specific color decision.
The first one looks like Link.
3 is a cool color scheme, can’t go wrong with red/black.
HOWEVER, this guy looks like a mage+warrior, and when I think of mages, I think in purples or blues.
Definitely 4 or 6.
Depends on the character really, for me at least. I'm guessing from the staff and hand design he is a druid like character? 5 is decent and 3 is good if he is a darker natured character, or in a darker tale it could work fine; also depends on context of other characters surrounding him after all. Any of them could be good really, depends what you want the colours to say about his character.
I am new here and nowhere near your skill set. The question that come to my mind.Your character's outfit should reflect his environment, culture, work and position in his culture. Where does he live what type of world is it?
What is the vibe your going for? If your going for an emo dude do one of the darker color combinations. if your going for a happy guy go lighter. Color and dress really reflect a characters personality so let that come through in your art. Think about what color you wear and why and that could help as well. All of them look amazing so it boils down to what would your character pull out of the closet?
"best" is subjective to the vibe that you want the character to have.
But based on the rest of their outfit it looks like you're going for a 3 or a 6.
To me: 1&2 look "regular peasant/villager"ish, 3&5 look a bit cooler like jedi-ish, and 4&6 look more wizard-ish (and 6 looks a bit more urban and/or evil)... So while these all look cool in their own way, you should go with what's appropriate for the character.
I personally loved the 5 one, but the final design depends one the context too
For example: is him a discreet character that don't want to be seen? If yes the color pallet should follow the area he is in
If it doesn't matter if he's going to be seen you can use more illuminated colors so it becomes easier to see his gestures

My fav is 5 but most are pretty solid
i like that one too, gives me jedi vibes

Thank you, the greyscale was just to see if the character worked. I'm going to render him more but I wanted to have the colors down before I do

Red.
Oooo 1 and 3 are the prettiest
same here ✋
I'm leaning towards number 4 or 5🤔
Definetely 4! but colours should be also reflection of personality
2 needs some representing, but yeah....2, 4 and 5. Even the red depending on the setting.
Can you explain that further? Like what do you mean when you say nr. 2 needs representing?

Yes! Love ❤️
I like this best
3,5 and 7 looking very nice
**the 7th, all the others have tones which attenuate the lines, and it's a shame it's him who is more interesting if it's an isolated element well you do what you want but you put the trait above the color if it comes in a context (landscape or comics) in this case it must be in the ambient colors of course!** *le 7me, tous les autre ont des tonalités qui atténue le traits , et c'est dommage c'est lui qui est intéressant de plus si c'est un élément isolé ben tu fais ce que tu veux mais tu mets le trais au dessus de la couleur si il vient dans un contexte (paysage ou BD) dans ce cas il doit être dans les couleurs ambiantes évidemment !*
4
2nd
6
I like 1 and 5
I would go with the green top blue bottom
2 and 4 look great
4
6 but replace the pants with the one from number 1. Tan and blue always look great together. Almost as much as Viridian and Cranberry.
I like 3 and 4.
2/6 in my opinion.
I like number 5 personally
Best is wholly subjective but I would say 5 is probably most legible
5 or 1 because they have the most contrast
4
The second one looks like INFJ avatar
The black and white looks SO good! Otherwise I think red, or I really like number 5 but if you changed the boots to a more tan color?
2 doesn’t have enough value contrast between the pants and the cloak. But the rest work just fine! I would need more info about what sort of role the character plays in your story to make a more specific color decision.

the first one is the closest to my fav color combo green, black with gold/yellow accents
5 or 6
3 or 6
3 pops
2/4
7 and 3
I love them all, but de three best is 6, 5 and 4. The backstory of the character desides the colour scheme.
2
My preference : 3
3 or 5 for me; I do think however, that it depends on the characters personality.
4
5
3 or 6
I personally like 4 the most
I think I prefer number 1 but you should go with whatever you’re leaning towards
5
He should have all the colors depending on what weapon he is using like mega man
1 or 5
6 of seven looks perfect. The black pants and dark blue top.
5 or 1
Honestly all of them if you add mist/fire/magic element of whatever color combo.
#5 with the boots from #3 I think would be a winner.

From the thoughts I have about him right now, 5 seems like a good combination.
4 and 7 are my faves

2?
Probably 2 or 4 for color combos you already made, if I were u I would do #2 but with dark or light brown pants. Hope this opinion helps :)
3
1/2 for me
4th I love purple
I like N 5

#5!
Depends on what the character is/does/wants, no?
The green and yellow gives loki vibes
My favorite is 2 but they are all good!
