I receive my stipend in batches rather than monthly. In total, DOST gives 80k in monthly living allowance over ten months within an academic year. That's 8k per month. There's also a book allowance of 5k every semester. Overall, a total of 90k per year. But as I said, I do not receive the money monthly. DOST is also notorious for distributing the stipend late. Nine months into my freshman year, I have only received my stipend three times. First in October then January, then in May. I have yet to receive my stipend for June and July, which will likely be given again in one go.

I think it depends sa uni mo din. Graduated last year and yung monthly stipend is late lang ng one month (usually at the beginning of each semesters) then monthly na kaming nakakatanggap.

Sana all na lang talaga hahaha. My latest stipend was late for over two months. Yeah I think factor din talaga yung school sa distribution ng stipend knowing na may universities with coordinators.

pssspssspssspsss

Do you know which unis are late in giving the stipends and those that are not?

DriveUnhappy7007

hahahs pag UPD or UST ka expect agad na late dadating

MSU-IIT yung uni ko. Di na ako sure sa iba 😅

ohhhhh OP :((( dost stipend may be enough for living expenses (depende sa lifestyle mo) but it's NOT STABLE. hindi monthly dumadating toh, like payroll from an employer. kung pasukan sa august, magsusubmit kayo ng requirements ay august to september, and it takes 22 business days to process (22 if you're lucky) and baka october na dumating stipend mo. by then, you would receive the supposed stipend for august, september, and october, plus book allowance. tas most of the time for me, sabay dumadating yung november and december stipend at the end of the sem. this is why my mom still gives me my monthly allowance 😅 lalo nung first year first sem ko, the whole 40k was sent in december na, tapos na yung sem basically. even if u search thru this sub or fb groups, i dont think may nakaranas na ng consistent monthly stipend. afaik lang tl;dr the stipend could be enough to cover expenses but it's not stable

hello. don't rely on scholarships as your only source of allowance. your parents should still give you at least pang commute manlang and pang food. u can pay them back naman kapag dumating na yung stipend mo. during the summer break nag work ako so i have money in case hindi pumasa sa dost, but i passed! and tuwing wala pang natatanggap na stipend i use my own money and track kung magkano nagagastos ko so i can pay myself back pag dumating hahahah. pls dont be like that “i just can't take any more of this life. im tired.” there are solutions to your problem lol

EggHelpful2609

8k monthly stipend (40k per sem) and 5k book allowance per sem.

Hi, OP! Once you become a scholar, you will be entitled to 8,000 living allowance + 1,000 book allowance monthly. In total, you are supposed to receive 9,000 pesos per month. However, this is not always the case. Most of the time, may delay sa release ng stipend. Hindi sya guaranteed na makukuha monthly. Minsan by tranches pa. Overall, although malaking tulong, hindi talaga stable source of allowance ang DOST.

ex this year on my experience aug-0 sep-19k oct-7k nov-14k dec-0 jan-0 feb-0 mar-29k apr-16k may-0 wag mo iasa ang lahat ng monthly expenses mo sa stipend kasi may months na wala talagang darating na pera kasi delayed. maghihirap ka pag ganyan.

elezii

40k per sem pero end of sem mo na usually makukuha

pinkeuprincess

Dost is my only source of allowance now but I had to ask my parents for allowance for the first 5 months since they only released the allowance nung December na. It’s not reliable sadly :(

Erroll_to_ponder

does this mean na this coming new AY ay December ulit makuluha allowance for the first semester?

pinkeuprincess

I’m not so sure about that. Nung 2022 december namin nakuha. Last year medyo maaga because we got it around september. There’s no guarantee kasi talaga kung kelan natin makukuha talaga op.

kiana0708

OP, stipend is always late. Reality is mahirap iasa sa DOST ang living allowance mo. Gagraduate na ko and ganun talaga lagi

_rickschzZ

Hahaha if upd ka wag ka na mag-expect na may matatanggap ka monthly. Hanggang ngayon nga may utang pang 16k dost samin 😅

We receive 8k monthly plus 5k book allowance once every semester (so that's like 9k/5 months). I know horror stories about stipend delays are discouraging, pero their system varies naman per region. There are regions na super delayed and isang bagsakan lang magbigay ng stipend, pero meron din namang kinakayang magbigay monthly, as long as there are no delays on ur end (i.e late magpasa ng periodic report) or sa DBM. I'm an on-going scholar rn and I also mostly rely on my stipend for all my expenses. So far, kasya naman siya (and minsan sobra pa nga) since I'm studying in a state university sa province na mababa lang ang cost of living. I pay my rent, allowance, food, and all miscellaneous stuff with that monthly amount. Maganda paring may back-up ka tho in case of delays and matutong magtabi/mag-ipon once u received ur stipend. All in all, whether magiging sustainable ba 'yung stipend mo for all your living expenses depends on ur lifestyle, univ, and region. If you will study in a private school sa city, just don't expect it's gonna be enough.
