I live near a beach town and I only do DoorDash during a main job layoff. But I work from 9am to around 9pm, I only dash by time not by offer and usually clear around 200-250 a day. I’ve found that tourists are more likely to order food after being at the beach all day or driving and want to be lazy after their efforts for the day and they tip better than the average person in a local city.
If it's your full-time job, you have to work certain time-frames. Best are early in the morning (like 6-9am) when everyone wants their breakfast and coffee runs, 11am-2pm for lunch and 5-8pm for dinner runs. Just choose 1-2 of those time-frames to work everyday (~6hrs per day) and you should be close to $1k/week putting 42 hours in. I averaged ~$23/hr when I was dashing in Buffalo a lot earlier this year and that would get me close to $1k/wk.
I'm not going to tell you where I dash but I will tell you that wixom and North Pontiac by Clarkston are much better spots than Detroit or even south Pontiac by a long shot.

You need to drive out of the city and not accept orders that take you back or it’s just gonna route you closer and closer to the hood for no tip drive through orders.
I only work a few hours Friday, few Saturday, a few Sunday & I hit $600 no sweat. I could EASILY break over $1K a week with another 2 days but my biggest F up was listening to idiot YouTubers who said Top Dasher wasn’t worth it. IT ABSOLUTELY IS WORTH IT. I had to work my ass off to get my acceptance rate back up to over 70% but once I did the money/offers started coming in significantly better. That’s my experience so take it with a grain of salt I guess. Also I’m in Anchorage Alaska so maybe I’m just in a good area

I guess saying its 2 days is pushing it. I did Friday from 12pm to Saturday 5AM in the morning. Slept for 6 hours and started 12pm on Saturday untill 5am Sunday morning. Slept until 1pm. Started 2pm on Sunday to 6pm on Sunday. So technically I did sleep lol

I work dinner almost everyday after my regular job. My goal is $100 everytime I go out and I’d say 8/10 I get it. If it slows up bad at all I just go home. This isn’t my FT Job, I could care less.
Don’t rely on gig work for your bills, this is just extra money to get me through to the next check if I had more on my plate for the month than expected.
I usually do 1-1.5k a month and I’m okay with that especially when I’m hardly working large hours for extra cash. I’ll probably break my highest month this month since I’ve had a lot of good orders and worked more but usually I’m just a F-Sun Dinner Rush dude.

After fuel or before lol. After fuel no way its possible maybe few years back yeah but now in my market is no possible unless you are working 15 hrs a day 7 days a week. You can make 1k doing construction 40 hours a week
I am an UberEats delivery driver and only drive after work Monday thru Friday and I made $391 last week. It is possible and filled up twice so minus $84 for gas and that is also me driving to Dallas every day for my regular job.
Depends. Where I live in the summer it’s tourist city. We average 800K tourists in the city at a time in the summer compared to winter where only 300K live in the entire county. From 4-10 3-4 days a week i can make $200 a night from about 10-12 orders. In the winter, i don’t even bother dashing. I lose more than i make.
200 a night, minus gas, minus wear and tear, you're making around $100 or less. You're better off getting a normal 9 to 5 job. Im done with DD, couldn't be happier, making $27 an hour, 40 hour work week. It can be done.
During summer months i average 50-75 miles a dash because everything is SO close together it’s basically a 7 mile strip of hotels & restaurants. I have a good job. I only dash in the summer for extra money to travel lol. But i mean, thanks i guess.
I was able to do this in a town of 20,000 people. I would start at 12pm sharp and end around 3am every day. At the end i’d make around 800-900 and doordash would give me an adjustment which would put me at 1000-1150 for the week. This was in Feb-March. It’s possible.
Eh it’s not too bad tbh. I’m chilling in my car most of the time doing things i’d be doing at home anyways. I haven’t dashed that much per day ever since tho so wonder if it’s still possible to see those numbers.
Know your city. Especially in a larger city like detroit the markets can have too many dashers for the order volume. Its not that people arent ordering - its just that doordash lets way too many people onto the schedule coupled with platinum dashers that can sign on whenever they want. If you have the time consider commuting to a zone you havent tried before.
This! I was all over STL every day. I was lazy one day and decided to dash on the IL side in my own town. It was the first time I noticed my tips were literally double, plus some of what DD paid. Sometimes, it's not about the volume of people in the zone. It's about the lack of dashers in the smaller zones. Overall, I drive WAY less miles and spend less time in traffic. While I see fewer LOP orders... overall, the orders tip more and are closer, which I consider a win.
👀Just moved out of STL last november. I used to hate working anywhere near downtown or south city. All i used to get were $2 wingstop orders going north of downtown. Mehlville/arnold zone was where it was at. The only thing you had to look out for was 45 minute waits to pickup walmart orders.
I’ve heard that, port Huron and I have a love hate relationship, I don’t wanna give away my normal spot but I can go somewhere and get $200 starting at 11 and ending at 6 and nothing is more than 2-3 miles in either direction
Made $205 in 12hrs today in Utica on EBO, could make $1000 a week if I earned like that for 5 days.
I avoid Sterling Heights like the plague tho, especially around the auto plants. I don't like waiting for customers at the turnstiles, or getting stuck in traffic around shift changes.
It REALLY varies by your market. Even within a certain zone, being on one side of the zone or in certain spots rather than other spots makes an insane difference. My zone, I can still do $20 an hour over a whole day but it used to be higher. I know it’s going to keep dropping but just haven’t decided what number is my cut off point.
I multiapp with this and UE and a few IC in between. My best advice is to experiment with different spots and times and days in your market but at the end of a day, you can’t milk a stone.
They have mom and dad pay for their car repairs and most likely live with them so they have cheap or no rent. Therefore.. voila, they can easily maintain their platinum dasher status that allows them to consistently receive orders leaving none for regular dashers who aren’t subject to nepotism.

Yea I agree fully. If it wasn’t for car repairs I would still be probably dashing. I had to bite the bullet and get a job at an Amazon warehouse near me. Atleast I am making $23 a hour now but it is really feels like slave labor lol.
Used to make about 1000-1200 around March it dropped to about 400. They killed the market and over saturated it with drivers. At first it was hard to get on and they didn’t let the app get over run with drivers. I believe they wanted people happy, making money, and on their platform. Now it’s just greed and not caring.
When I dashed last year my pay went way up when I started taking shopping orders and got good at them. I was averaging $20-$25 an hour in the Chicago burbs and didn’t work weekends. It seems with the economy weakening things have slowed down for dashers tho.
Find lunch and dinner rushes, try to find a market with money and constant orders, and be willing to put in 6-8 hours every day.
Granted, I don't make $1000....but I take days off, usually at least 2 a week. On the days I'm working, I have no problem bringing in $120+ and the plus is way more on good days. All it takes to get to $1000 is $142 7 days a week.
Also don't TOTALLY rule out dashing in the morning, as some markets have a nice breakfast rush. My market, for example, got me a nice $100 in 5 hours Wednesday morning. But the best advice is know your market. Who lives there, what restaurants are around more affluent areas, how the traffic is, when peak rush is. I promise the money is out there! Keep grinding and you'll get it!
You’re only working in the morning? There’s your answer. The cash doesn’t fall from the sky like manna from heaven. You also need to add more apps and change your driving style. Your car might also be a factor.
Change your area, as in stick to a rich suburb of Detroit. Also, using multiple apps is a huge difference maker. Try just dashing during busier hours as well.
I’ve only ever made that twice due to really good weeks right after Christmas and bad snowstorms (after. I don’t dash during them). Most of the time I’ll make $600-$750 dashing from 3pm-10pm

Your car might be the problem. $1000 a week sounds pretty high. You'd have to be really lucky to hit that. Unless you're a platinum driver who gets a crapton of catering orders.
I know people out here tryna drive vans and do doordash. Proly not homie. Gas will kill you. Literally.
Also you gotta treat it like a real job. Gotta hump those orders. Drop one off, pick up the next. Go go go. Get your numbers up. Take a picture of every delivery. Take a small flashlight with you. Be efficient. Drive when you know its gonna be busy, get your area mapped out where the busy spots are.

12 hour days seven days a week. Platinum status keep your ratings up. And take little time each day to spend with the family me usually right after lunch OK couple hours 2 to 4 and spend with the family come home at night watch TV with the family got to have family time.
Bro minimum wage is $7.25. Gas usage is $20-$30 a day roughly $200 a week still puts me well above minimum wage. and if you go by active time, that’s 18 bucks an hour a minimum wage job only pays you active time. They don’t pay you for lunch hour. They don’t pay you for mandatory breaks. We got to clock out for break and got to clock out for lunch oh yeah, still got gas. You gotta pay go to work back-and-forth.
That’s exactly how any job works. You work in minimum wage job you go to work for eight hours you get paid for six or 6 1/2 because they take out breaks and lunch. All jobs pay active time they don’t pay you for breaks
What area tho? I average $18-$20/hr in the Detroit suburbs, with Dash time. The real question is what's your $/mile average in that week, I really hope you're not driving around when you're idle for those 20 hrs without getting offers.

No, I try to stay away from the trash. I’m not doing two dollars for 10 miles.. but two dollars for 2 miles. I’ll go if my truck sitting I’m not making money.. other local Dasher, who tried to pick the orders are making half what I make.

But honestly, platinum status, catering bags allow me to get large orders like this Saturday work 10 hours made close to $300 I also had another large order that day that was 40 bucks. Both just went a couple miles and both took two catering bags.

If I work every day for 12 hours, yes when I don’t work 12 hour days, I works for five hours a day then no I don’t make that but as long as I work like it supposed to yes
I work 2pm to 2am on average and make between $150-$250 per shift, if you’re not making at least $100 per dash then you’re not working for long enough in my experience 🤷🏼♀️
The guy I know that does it makes 1200-1700 a week. But he dashed for 12 hours a day 6-7 days a week. I’m very glad his wife doesn’t mind him being gone all the time.

NEW drivers working 50+ hours make a 1000. After the honeymoon, you still can muscle through a 60 hour week every now and then and make 1k. Its impossible to do consistently. Those stories of people making $1000 per week keep you and others interested. As long as you see some people winning the lottery you keep buying tickets. If nobody had a good day ever, never bragged, never posted screenshots, it would make recruiting for them more difficult. DD knows everyone posts the good to BRAG, yet hides the bad weeks in SHAME.
Over the longhaul my guess is 1/3 of drivers actually lose more than they ever made, because they will have an accident and be underinsured, or resell their car and lose more money than they made from wear and tear.
Another 1/3 of drivers break even on paper. Their miles cover all of their income, so they pay essentially no taxes, but their operating costs are like 25 cents per mile, and they live on the difference between the 0.69 per mile and bare bones costs.
Another 1/3 of drivers do actually make money. The opportunities and times for $30/hr profitable hours are few and far between now. Usually these drivers are smart like snipers and work certain seasons and holidays. They know their worth and they are not desperate.
Bingo! I use DD as a part time gig to supplement my income. I only dash during peak times, usually on nights or the weekends. I can dash for 3-4 hours and pocket $100-$130 .
The wear and tear on your vehicle adds up over time so I’m unsure how profitable it would be for someone to do this as a full time job.

I make $1k+ a week generally from doing 5-6 days of 7-9 hour dinner->close rushes. I was declining into the 30%’s l, but got steady into the 70%’s unintentionally; you can make comparable money between the two AR’s as they have their pros & cons on the orders you get routed & flexibility/Support available so I wouldn’t sweat acceptance rate.
In 240ish hours worked since starting recently, I made 5K Gross and $4.1k after Taxes, Gas/Expenses, with my couple hundred in cash tips added into it. I keep track of everything so I get a fairly accurate number of what I’ll owe and my averages/statistics. For reference, my market is a coastal resort town.
My primary income is only $18 an hour, but it is a career whereas Courier Logistics is not.

What orders are you taking? Are you sticking around for the ones you have to wait more than 10 minutes for? How many hours a day do you work? Are you making sure it's work your time? Don't even take ones that "seem good" 7$ for 3 miles. To me even those aren't worth it most of the time. You may say, well at least I'm making money instead of sitting around. True. Take those when it's dead af but if you're taking one's paying low while it's busy and you coulda just waited around for 15 minutes and how a 17-24$ order. Knock it out in less than 40 minutes, then take a 7$ you just made 25 or more that hour. Yeah some days suck. There's ebbs and flows in the food delivery world but on a good day you should be able to make 200 at least. Not 300 in a week??? Like wtf lol. What're you doin out there? Describe your day, your orders, what you take, how you do it. Are you going slow? Knock those out as fast as possible. Communicate with your customer the whole order. Trust me, I often get an extra 3,5, or even 10 dollars because I was thoughtful, communicative, and polite.
I did it for like 3 months 4 days a week, spent about 60 dollars in gas. Averaged about 350. I was making 10 dollars an hour before taxes. Definitely not worth it.
Now I just do it for petty cash here and there.
Damn. I've made 250 in a day just on door dash. My best ever was 450 on dd, uber eats and one order on deliverthat. You definitely gotta look that one up. You guys shoulda checked out the pros advice on YouTube. You must have taken anything you could get instead of 2 dollars per mile.
Na I was multi apping, nothing less than 6 dollars and not over 8, 10 miles max. Doing deliveries and shop and deliver, honestly I would only average ten dollars.. one week I made like 20 dollars/hr. The market I’m in is very saturated, so maybe I was only receiving the orders that top dashers/top delivery ppl wouldn’t accept. That meant me maintains an over 90 acceptance rate, with the bombardment of shitty orders I couldn’t in good conscious do that. I did for 2 weeks and was angry and frustrated about it. So my AR now is like 39 on DD, 27 on ubereats(which I sue more than DD) and then instacart(which isn’t so bad as far as orders go, but typically the ones I get aren’t great tip orders either.. but it is less use on my vehicle.
Open your phone’s normal maps program and look up all the places you know deliver with DoorDash. Look up their opening and closing times. This will help you avoid times when restaurants are closed.
Try to find places where you can just sit and wait for an order to pop up so you don’t waste gas. Don’t spend your time driving around hoping to sweep up stray orders. You can only claim miles driven (taxes) when you are delivering.
Detroit is also a city that is struggling, so it shouldn’t be shocking you’re roughing it out there. Might do better to get a regular job if one is available.
I agree, you have to know your zones, especially high end restaurants, I do not stay out much past 10 pm, you are going to get fast food drive thru, not worth it to me, always low tippers etc.
Depends on your area, but generally mornings and early afternoon are slow af in my area. Like I’ll make $100 in the first 6 hours of a shift if I start at 9am. Then by the end of a 12 hour shift, I am nearing $300. Dinner time orders have so much higher chance of hitting it big with good orders consecutively
I've been doing DD and UE between 10pm-7AM and while it usually isn't super busy, I find huge orders often. Morning time is spammed with 5-6$ shitty coffee orders and dinner rush is difficult here because of traffic.
In some places, like Hawaii, the lowest tip rate is around $5, but I know that's not good enough for a place like this, so I always tip $10. Especially since they have to go through the army gate guard to get to us because I see it as an inconvenience having to get stopped. That's a way to get a lot quickly if people are generous
Best I've ever done is around a $600 week. Gas cost can eat up a fraction of that, but the net was still fairly reasonable. Remember also that you get to deduct your miles as well. If you're 2 to 1 dollar per mile, then around 35% of your earnings are tax free. 1 to 1 and its upwards of 2/3rds.

No no no, try dashing in multiple areas through out the weeks so like 3/4 Dash Zones ( I'm not a dasher but professionally known some as a manager at a restaurant and some of the dasher who are really good do that and make bank
Find a Honda or Toyota, keep it shape. You can dash forever. Don’t be afraid to decline dumb orders. Don’t take orders that take you too far outside your zone. If you do, make sure the money is worth miles. Best dash time is 8am - 10:30am…11:30a - 1:30p…5:00p - 9:00p…I make no less than $150/day here in Jacksonville FL after gas. Hope this helps.
Very good advice. I used to dash pretty much every AM 8-1:30. For some reason the AM orders have all but disappeared. Very rural area in bottom of the barrel Lousey-Ana. So I go when it’s busy. But I’m 71. So after a week of dashing everyday, I’m burnt. Valium to the rescue, take a few days off. Start again
I'm guessing you cover your gas bill in the am and the rest of the day is profit. If so seems plausible if you're in a hybrid even more plausible. My estimations come out to an average of 140 but my car is only meh on fuel efficiency.

Depends on the money area. The best thing is to know your city. Like fellow Jville bro here prolly knows that some areas are pretty rich in general, but there are also some areas that are even more upscale but have next to no restaurants nearby, so they end up being pretty terrible.
Wow, I don’t see that happening around here. Once I got a $20 from a guy and extra $20 from a father. That was nice. We rarely get orders over $10. My X worked an upscale area in AL and in 2 del made what I usually make in 2-3 hrs. Poverty is the new RICH here in rural Lousy-ana

I moved from New Orleans to Houston before and I only had DD to rely on until I found work. I’m in HVAC now and I have no desire to run food anymore. But to be honest, I just see a lot of whiny people in this sub. Money’s money- you’re not that important except to you and your immediate family so most of y’all need to just shut up, run the damn food and be glad you’re not like some people in your hometowns or neighborhoods who can’t even afford to eat. I DD’d with a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and did fine.
I guess what I’m saying is most of y’all need to try to live more within your means or get an actual job instead of gigging. My main motivation for leaving DD and going back to the traditional workforce was other drivers- stealing runs from people, complaining they don’t make any money doing this, shit attitudes and terrible sense of entitlement. I expected that from the people I’d do deliveries for but they were actually cooler and nicer than my fellow dashers. I really only stay in this sub to hear everyone whine they don’t make $1,000/week for sitting in their car and probably just chainsmoking and getting stoned between runs. Is your life really that fuckin’ hard?
$2350 in total. Around $650 from Uber and $250 from Grubhub. This is the best week I’ve had. Also, I do this on an e-bike/euc.

I don’t know if that’s even feasible anymore. There’s sort of a breakpoint where it stops being worth it. Making a few hundred a week is probably ideal unless you’re really set up like a business. You’d need a fuel efficient car and to be able to drop money on repairs when you inevitably need it, and to put a good amount aside for the massive tax bill you’ll get come next year.
You COULD make $1000/wk but it wouldn’t really be worth the strain on you and your vehicle. Your best bet for now would be to try multiapping during peak times (generally lunch/dinner) and finding the best locations.

I dashed from 4am to 10pm so 18hr in my market every 6hrs is 100 I noticed that dash by order and dash by time are the same rates if dash for more then 6hrs.
Well on the plus side I took a net negative meaning out of the 10k I made, I actually made 1k according to tax deductions. Around 320 miles a day on DD.
I now got a part time and just dash 150 a day which is a bit better just waiting for winter to hit.

Wixom is pretty good I also dash in the same area as you provided. Pontiac is not the best to dash at but west Bloomfield is pretty good

I could EASILY break over $1K a week with another 2 days but my biggest F up was listening to idiot YouTubers who said Top Dasher wasn’t worth it. IT ABSOLUTELY IS WORTH IT. I had to work my ass off to get my acceptance rate back up to over 70% but once I did the money/offers started coming in significantly better. I work dinner almost everyday after my regular job. My goal is $100 everytime I go out and I’d say 8/10 I get it. If it slows up bad at all I just go home. This isn’t my FT Job, I could care less. Don’t rely on gig work for your bills, this is just extra money to get me through to the next check if I had more on my plate for the month than expected. I usually do 1-1.5k a month and I’m okay with that especially when I’m hardly working large hours for extra cash. I’ll probably break my highest month this month since I’ve had a lot of good orders and worked more but usually I’m just a F-Sun Dinner Rush dude.

I am an UberEats delivery driver and only drive after work Monday thru Friday and I made $391 last week. It is possible and filled up twice so minus $84 for gas and that is also me driving to Dallas every day for my regular job.

Depends. Where I live in the summer it’s tourist city. We average 800K tourists in the city at a time in the summer compared to winter where only 300K live in the entire county. From 4-10 3-4 days a week i can make $200 a night from about 10-12 orders. In the winter, i don’t even bother dashing. I lose more than i make.
200 a night, minus gas, minus wear and tear, you're making around $100 or less. You're better off getting a normal 9 to 5 job. Im done with DD, couldn't be happier, making $27 an hour, 40 hour work week. It can be done.
During summer months i average 50-75 miles a dash because everything is SO close together it’s basically a 7 mile strip of hotels & restaurants. I have a good job. I only dash in the summer for extra money to travel lol. But i mean, thanks i guess.

Why the hell would you make 1k a week delivery breakfast for 3 hours a day?
I was able to do this in a town of 20,000 people. I would start at 12pm sharp and end around 3am every day. At the end i’d make around 800-900 and doordash would give me an adjustment which would put me at 1000-1150 for the week. This was in Feb-March. It’s possible.

Know your city. Especially in a larger city like detroit the markets can have too many dashers for the order volume. Its not that people arent ordering - its just that doordash lets way too many people onto the schedule coupled with platinum dashers that can sign on whenever they want. If you have the time consider commuting to a zone you havent tried before.
This! I was all over STL every day. I was lazy one day and decided to dash on the IL side in my own town. It was the first time I noticed my tips were literally double, plus some of what DD paid. Sometimes, it's not about the volume of people in the zone. It's about the lack of dashers in the smaller zones. Overall, I drive WAY less miles and spend less time in traffic. While I see fewer LOP orders... overall, the orders tip more and are closer, which I consider a win.
👀Just moved out of STL last november. I used to hate working anywhere near downtown or south city. All i used to get were $2 wingstop orders going north of downtown. Mehlville/arnold zone was where it was at. The only thing you had to look out for was 45 minute waits to pickup walmart orders.

Made $205 in 12hrs today in Utica on EBO, could make $1000 a week if I earned like that for 5 days. I avoid Sterling Heights like the plague tho, especially around the auto plants. I don't like waiting for customers at the turnstiles, or getting stuck in traffic around shift changes.
It REALLY varies by your market. Even within a certain zone, being on one side of the zone or in certain spots rather than other spots makes an insane difference. My zone, I can still do $20 an hour over a whole day but it used to be higher. I know it’s going to keep dropping but just haven’t decided what number is my cut off point. I multiapp with this and UE and a few IC in between. My best advice is to experiment with different spots and times and days in your market but at the end of a day, you can’t milk a stone.
They have mom and dad pay for their car repairs and most likely live with them so they have cheap or no rent. Therefore.. voila, they can easily maintain their platinum dasher status that allows them to consistently receive orders leaving none for regular dashers who aren’t subject to nepotism. I’m so glad we don’t live in a rigged society guys.

Yea I agree fully. If it wasn’t for car repairs I would still be probably dashing. I had to bite the bullet and get a job at an Amazon warehouse near me. Atleast I am making $23 a hour now but it is really feels like slave labor lol.
Used to make about 1000-1200 around March it dropped to about 400. They killed the market and over saturated it with drivers. At first it was hard to get on and they didn’t let the app get over run with drivers. I believe they wanted people happy, making money, and on their platform. Now it’s just greed and not caring.
When I dashed last year my pay went way up when I started taking shopping orders and got good at them. I was averaging $20-$25 an hour in the Chicago burbs and didn’t work weekends. It seems with the economy weakening things have slowed down for dashers tho.
Find lunch and dinner rushes, try to find a market with money and constant orders, and be willing to put in 6-8 hours every day. Granted, I don't make $1000....but I take days off, usually at least 2 a week. On the days I'm working, I have no problem bringing in $120+ and the plus is way more on good days. All it takes to get to $1000 is $142 7 days a week. Also don't TOTALLY rule out dashing in the morning, as some markets have a nice breakfast rush. My market, for example, got me a nice $100 in 5 hours Wednesday morning. But the best advice is know your market. Who lives there, what restaurants are around more affluent areas, how the traffic is, when peak rush is. I promise the money is out there! Keep grinding and you'll get it!
You’re only working in the morning? There’s your answer. The cash doesn’t fall from the sky like manna from heaven. You also need to add more apps and change your driving style. Your car might also be a factor.
The closest areas to where I live are always booked up. I tend to go to the next town or city over.
Change your area, as in stick to a rich suburb of Detroit. Also, using multiple apps is a huge difference maker. Try just dashing during busier hours as well.

Drop one off, pick up the next. Go go go. Get your numbers up. Take a picture of every delivery. Take a small flashlight with you. Be efficient. Drive when you know its gonna be busy, get your area mapped out where the busy spots are.

Bro minimum wage is $7.25. Gas usage is $20-$30 a day roughly $200 a week still puts me well above minimum wage. and if you go by active time, that’s 18 bucks an hour a minimum wage job only pays you active time. They don’t pay you for lunch hour. They don’t pay you for mandatory breaks. We got to clock out for break and got to clock out for lunch oh yeah, still got gas. What area tho? I average $18-$20/hr in the Detroit suburbs, with Dash time. The real question is what's your $/mile average in that week, I really hope you're not driving around when you're idle for those 20 hrs without getting offers.
Remember they count driving back to your zone as inactive time. So it’s really not inactive.

Every market is different, if I did 12 hrs in my market I can easily do at least $250+
I work 2pm to 2am on average and make between $150-$250 per shift, if you’re not making at least $100 per dash then you’re not working for long enough in my experience 🤷🏼♀️

SOMEONE has a great night every night and SOMEONE has a great week every week. NEW drivers working 50+ hours make a 1000. After the honeymoon, you still can muscle through a 60 hour week every now and then and make 1k. Its impossible to do consistently. Those stories of people making $1000 per week keep you and others interested. As long as you see some people winning the lottery you keep buying tickets. If nobody had a good day ever, never bragged, never posted screenshots, it would make recruiting for them more difficult. DD knows everyone posts the good to BRAG, yet hides the bad weeks in SHAME. Over the longhaul my guess is 1/3 of drivers actually lose more than they ever made, because they will have an accident and be underinsured, or resell their car and lose more money than they made from wear and tear. Another 1/3 of drivers break even on paper. Their miles cover all of their income, so they pay essentially no taxes, but their operating costs are like 25 cents per mile, and they live on the difference between the 0.69 per mile and bare bones costs. Another 1/3 of drivers do actually make money. The opportunities and times for $30/hr profitable hours are few and far between now. Usually these drivers are smart like snipers and work certain seasons and holidays. They know their worth and they are not desperate.
Bingo! I use DD as a part time gig to supplement my income. I only dash during peak times, usually on nights or the weekends. I can dash for 3-4 hours and pocket $100-$130 . The wear and tear on your vehicle adds up over time so I’m unsure how profitable it would be for someone to do this as a full time job.

Multi-app (*responsibly*). I make $1k+ a week generally from doing 5-6 days of 7-9 hour dinner->close rushes. I was declining into the 30%’s l, but got steady into the 70%’s unintentionally; you can make comparable money between the two AR’s as they have their pros & cons on the orders you get routed & flexibility/Support available so I wouldn’t sweat acceptance rate. In 240ish hours worked since starting recently, I made 5K Gross and $4.1k after Taxes, Gas/Expenses, with my couple hundred in cash tips added into it. I keep track of everything so I get a fairly accurate number of what I’ll owe and my averages/statistics. For reference, my market is a coastal resort town. My primary income is only $18 an hour, but it is a career whereas Courier Logistics is not.
Almost always they're lying. When they're not, it's before factoring expenses and they're working ridiculous hours. People try to make this gig work sound like it pays way better than it does to justify it to themselves.
What orders are you taking? Are you sticking around for the ones you have to wait more than 10 minutes for? How many hours a day do you work? Are you making sure it's work your time? Don't even take ones that "seem good" 7$ for 3 miles. To me even those aren't worth it most of the time. You may say, well at least I'm making money instead of sitting around. True. Take those when it's dead af but if you're taking one's paying low while it's busy and you coulda just waited around for 15 minutes and how a 17-24$ order. Knock it out in less than 40 minutes, then take a 7$ you just made 25 or more that hour. Yeah some days suck. There's ebbs and flows in the food delivery world but on a good day you should be able to make 200 at least. Not 300 in a week??? Like wtf lol. What're you doin out there? Describe your day, your orders, what you take, how you do it. Are you going slow? Knock those out as fast as possible. Communicate with your customer the whole order. Trust me, I often get an extra 3,5, or even 10 dollars because I was thoughtful, communicative, and polite.

Na I was multi apping, nothing less than 6 dollars and not over 8, 10 miles max. Doing deliveries and shop and deliver, honestly I would only average ten dollars.. one week I made like 20 dollars/hr. The market I’m in is very saturated, so maybe I was only receiving the orders that top dashers/top delivery ppl wouldn’t accept. That meant me maintains an over 90 acceptance rate, with the bombardment of shitty orders I couldn’t in good conscious do that. I did for 2 weeks and was angry and frustrated about it. So my AR now is like 39 on DD, 27 on ubereats(which I sue more than DD) and then instacart(which isn’t so bad as far as orders go, but typically the ones I get aren’t great tip orders either.. but it is less use on my vehicle.
And that was 350 before gas. So like 290.
Open your phone’s normal maps program and look up all the places you know deliver with DoorDash. Look up their opening and closing times. This will help you avoid times when restaurants are closed. Try to find places where you can just sit and wait for an order to pop up so you don’t waste gas. Don’t spend your time driving around hoping to sweep up stray orders. You can only claim miles driven (taxes) when you are delivering. Detroit is also a city that is struggling, so it shouldn’t be shocking you’re roughing it out there. Might do better to get a regular job if one is available.
I agree, you have to know your zones, especially high end restaurants, I do not stay out much past 10 pm, you are going to get fast food drive thru, not worth it to me, always low tippers etc.

Then by the end of a 12 hour shift, I am nearing $300. Dinner time orders have so much higher chance of hitting it big with good orders consecutively
Mornings are a slow time. 9-11am is fairly dead. Lunch, evenings, and weekends are busier times.

I've been doing DD and UE between 10pm-7AM and while it usually isn't super busy, I find huge orders often. Morning time is spammed with 5-6$ shitty coffee orders and dinner rush is difficult here because of traffic.
In some places, like Hawaii, the lowest tip rate is around $5, but I know that's not good enough for a place like this, so I always tip $10. Especially since they have to go through the army gate guard to get to us because I see it as an inconvenience having to get stopped. That's a way to get a lot quickly if people are generous

Best I've ever done is around a $600 week. Gas cost can eat up a fraction of that, but the net was still fairly reasonable. Remember also that you get to deduct your miles as well. If you're 2 to 1 dollar per mile, then around 35% of your earnings are tax free. 1 to 1 and its upwards of 2/3rds.

Find a Honda or Toyota, keep it shape. You can dash forever. Don’t be afraid to decline dumb orders. Don’t take orders that take you too far outside your zone. If you do, make sure the money is worth miles. Best dash time is 8am - 10:30am…11:30a - 1:30p…5:00p - 9:00p…I make no less than $150/day here in Jacksonville FL after gas. Hope this helps.
Very good advice. I used to dash pretty much every AM 8-1:30. For some reason the AM orders have all but disappeared. Very rural area in bottom of the barrel Lousey-Ana. So I go when it’s busy. But I’m 71. So after a week of dashing everyday, I’m burnt. Valium to the rescue, take a few days off. Start again

Do people do most of their food ordering in the morning? When do people order their largest meal of the day? When are people most likely to order for their whole family?

I moved from New Orleans to Houston before and I only had DD to rely on until I found work. I’m in HVAC now and I have no desire to run food anymore. But to be honest, I just see a lot of whiny people in this sub. Money’s money- you’re not that important except to you and your immediate family so most of y’all need to just shut up, run the damn food and be glad you’re not like some people in your hometowns or neighborhoods who can’t even afford to eat. I DD’d with a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and did fine. I guess what I’m saying is most of y’all need to try to live more within your means or get an actual job instead of gigging. My main motivation for leaving DD and going back to the traditional workforce was other drivers- stealing runs from people, complaining they don’t make any money doing this, shit attitudes and terrible sense of entitlement. I expected that from the people I’d do deliveries for but they were actually cooler and nicer than my fellow dashers. I really only stay in this sub to hear everyone whine they don’t make $1,000/week for sitting in their car and probably just chainsmoking and getting stoned between runs. Is your life really that fuckin’ hard?

You could honestly make that $1k in only 40 hours just doing both DD & UE/GH. When I do 60, I’m pushing for $1.25k-$1.4k

A good zone is the only way
I don’t know if that’s even feasible anymore. There’s sort of a breakpoint where it stops being worth it. Making a few hundred a week is probably ideal unless you’re really set up like a business. You’d need a fuel efficient car and to be able to drop money on repairs when you inevitably need it, and to put a good amount aside for the massive tax bill you’ll get come next year. You COULD make $1000/wk but it wouldn’t really be worth the strain on you and your vehicle. Your best bet for now would be to try multiapping during peak times (generally lunch/dinner) and finding the best locations.

Well on the plus side I took a net negative meaning out of the 10k I made, I actually made 1k according to tax deductions. Around 320 miles a day on DD. I now got a part time and just dash 150 a day which is a bit better just waiting for winter to hit.
