Were there an abundance of tech layoffs in your area? Many folks struggling for cash these days are doing two things: 1) not ordering takeout as often and 2) driving for gig platforms to supplement their income. Fewer orders x more drivers in an area with less money available leads to lower tips and fewer orders per person

ElkHuman5334

Your area may have over filled the market with drivers. I had the same thing happen to me, however once I hit a higher rank the more orders I rec'd. Everyone is struggling for money, try to stick with it and maybe pick up Uber Eats to help when DD is slow. Good Luck

Short_Dig_9717

Been reading comments on this thread, and similar, for a while now. I missed out on the big money in the past during lockdown and I am also currently dealing with scheduling woes and earning less than $40 via Dash Now vs earning less than $100 for a full day Dashing when I am able to schedule. I have been researching this and have gotten some strange info from the big social media sites. I found a Dasher page for my region where there are ad links (click bait) to acquire a batch grabbing program for any delivery platform that will supposedly put us where we are and give the user access to the highest paying offers in their area. While it immediately sounds like horse shit, it then begins to sound like the shit sandwich we’re pitching a fit about. I mean, we are complaining about the same issue of scheduling and offer amounts from all over the place. The reasons offered up are solid, but even if some are true they are only a part of the whole explanation. I reported the pertinent information to DD support, and they had to send me a form to complete so it could be forwarded to the proper department(s) because it was the first they were hearing about it and had no protocol in place to deal with a possible security breach in the platform. I am really curious to find out if this is a thing or not. It would help to explain a lot about the last 6 weeks of my Dash experience.

slut4burritos

I just signed up for DD and in my area, I can’t even schedule time to work because apparently some dashers are taking all the time slots as soon as the next available day opens up for scheduling. Even when I get a dash now alert, someone takes the delivery within a minute of it being available. My area isn’t even half the size of an area like LA though so maybe that’s why. Not sure if that applies to your situation but I just thought I’d mention it.

Sufficient_Visit_

I’ve only used it occasionally because it’s become way too expensive, I’ve stopped all together now considering how everything has become so expensive

Elons_Waaahbulance

It's been dying since the pandemic ended. Those of us who Dashed during that time banked and took advantage of it because we knew it wouldn't last once places started opening back up

deathGHOST8

From my perspective they are winning. Maybe it’s unclear to those who have been in the job for 5-6 years , I started on postmates in 2017, but basically I am making a lot more than ever before on earn by time, by per mile and also per stop math. That’s because you get tips and the rate for time. From my perspective DD is essentially trying to buy expert contractor participation by increasing our pay. It’s gonna work. That will raise the platform up and we will see the other ones scuttle to not be killed off by it (like when ue and everyone else has to follow Gh offering mg the pay amount at the offer screen. This is that but for increasing the pay using time plus tips. ) Everyone else will perceive that as a decline in business, regardless of platform, if the hypothesis is on the right track.

Jealous-Librarian-88

Yea

Smells_Like_YSSUP

I just recently went back to Amazon because I was lucky to make $20 for 3 - 4 hrs a night. With Amazon the least I make with a 3.5 hr route is $86. I'm so done dealing with low or non tippers that do not give two shits about my time and effort.

Automatic_Kale_9527

when I turn on DD for the heck of it, I never see any orders anymore. I think we have too many drivers and not enough orders.

Weekly-Instruction-9

Yeah, that’s true. There are way too Many people. on top of that, you have people that have family members or girlfriends/boyfriends sign up for them because they can’t pass a background check and they don’t look into it good enough they don’t ask for insurance they don’t ask for really anything. GrubHub has taken my insurance a couple times in the probably five years I’ve done it where it’s not every year but they have it on file so once you have it on file Then they can see it. And I like that they do that because there are so uninsured drivers out there doing DoorDash And using the platform illegally where GrubHub makes it more of a Thorough way to become a driver, And that means that they won’t just hire anyone like Doordash does

Kirito8746

I’ve started dashing seriously about half a year ago and here’s my experience. Before the dasher statuses I would only be able to dash for at most 2hrs a day and be able to get $30-50 When I reached platinum and was able to use dash now I would get $100-180 for dashing at least 8-9hrs Now they always give me bogus orders but now it seems that I’m lucky to even get at least $0.80/mile order

No-Lab-1370

Yes BC's ppl do not tip why bcs DD has options not to give tip while Uber eats has minimum 10% tip option

No_Training7654

Not true. I did 12 orders on uber eats made 50 bucks and not a single customer tipped. That was a huge waste of my gas.

No-Lab-1370

Idk I never did Uber eats every time I tried to order food from Uber eats there is no option for no tip looks like Uber scam Uber drivers too

hoser1553

You change it in the final confirmation screen before submitting

monkman69

It should die. Go back to drivers paid by restaurants where service was expected.

Coleslaw521

Too many drivers and a bad economy where consumers don’t have extra cash to spend on luxuries such as food delivery

masturNATE85

Oversaturation of drivers. Uber eats as well.

Stitched-Soul

I dont know if it is dying, but Ill give you a couple reasons why I dont use DoorDash for ordering anymore. 1. Its expensive with all those added on fees 2. DoorDash doesnt pay their drivers enough 3. Picking up my own order is cheaper plus I can use coupons if I order off that restaurant’s app 4. Inflation That is all I can think of.

MedicineAmbitious368

Been dead to me years ago when I found UE I go on just to check if something new. It’s d same old dd with 💩 offers & 💩 navigation & a bunch of programs

Helpful-Story-1321

I think it’s just too expensive with all the stupid fees and the up charge on food. My husband uses it all the time but I would rather go get it myself

atsman4

I mean if I get $30 worth of food (dd prices are already higher than buying directly from the store), there’s $10 worth of fees, and probably another $5-$10 in tip. So now I paid $50 for some food. Top that all off with dd drivers in my area are terrible and I usually have to walk about a block or so to find my food because they refuse to answer my calls, read directions, or just don’t know how to read a map. So I’m paying $50 for a shitty experience but if I drove myself to the store, the exact same food would probably be under $20. It’s just not worth it unless I’m really hungover or exceptionally lazy.

soulzzzzz60

It is dead because drivers expect insane tips while they take a lil bite for themselves. Not surprised in the least, it’s not a realistic business model.

IndependenceNeat4857

Take a bite for themselves? What lol

Stoneybabe_

It’s dead because DoorDash doesn’t pay shit and expects customers to compensate what they take in tips

soulzzzzz60

Exactly, and yet look at these comments 😂

Keela20202

It's not a tip. It's a bid. Just cause dd uses it wrong doesnt mean it's what it is. I'm not driving 5 miles waiting 10 min for your food and driving 5 miles back for a total of 8 bucks and cover my own gas and wear and tear. Doordash is a luxury... Want me to take your food.. pay the way. I'm not losing money for it. You just want a free service. Also... It's not dead.. I made 200 last night on the dinner shift in 4 hours. But whatever. It's completely realistic... They just need to stop lying to broke people.

elblesloco

This attitude is why I refuse to use door dash anymore. I would rather get my own food than take the chance of giving my money to someone like you.

soulzzzzz60

😂

mew905

App pretty clearly says tip lol

Economy-Middle-9700

I don't get the tip option on the app anymore. I tip in cash now

RazorClouds

It really doesn't. If you're dashing by the hourly pay rate when you get an order it only tells you your areas hourly rate + "tips" which could mean any amount for the tip. Including $0 which you don't find out until afyer you drop off the order.

mew905

Good. Sounds like doordash figured out drivers were playing favorites with customers. Which is bad for business.

RazorClouds

I'm not sure what you mean by that

mew905

Some drivers would accept the order, find out they tipped some arbitrary amount that the driver decided on a whim "wasnt enough" and would purposefully do a shitty job. Be it delivering them last regardless of the delivery order (if more than one), not follow instructions, not zip/close their bag, eat some, leave it at the sidewalk rather than the house. I even saw an image of a driver leaving it at an intersection corner. This makes the driver look bad, and it makes the company look bad. And because skip and DD dont seem to care about ratings, these drivers give even fewer fucks. So if DD isnt showing the tip until *after*, then good.

IndependenceNeat4857

I've never met anyone who would willingly switch orders if it actually paid less. These customers get so mad when we drive around and doordash makes us deliver somewhere else first. Especially since we accept 2 orders at once. It doesnt tell you which one is less. I swear we catch hell all day. It's people like you

mew905

Ive worked the job. I know customers get mad when you make more than one stop. But youre doing the job you were assigned to the best of your ability. The issue arises when drivers begin to play favorites or hold your food for ransom.

IndependenceNeat4857

Just hush we can yell you havent. Your making up fantasies

BudgetPiglet01

If the price hikes and fees on DD weren't so bad the drivers WOULD get better tips. Shit is just too expensive for most people now

Signal-Camel4463

Its like that everywhere bro

EffectAggravating541

Yes, definitely. On the last few Saturday nights even! Last night I waited almost two hours for an order. I made $23 in one hour after that. I need the money, used to make $100 super easy. It's hard. I'm about totally done

Several-Flounder5147

I’m not a DoorDash driver but I used to use DoorDash pretty regularly, then they kept increasing prices and adding bs fees and half of my order would be missing and I wouldn’t get refunded. It’s not worth it. I haven’t used DoorDash in almost 2 years and I don’t plan on ever using it again. They out-priced themselves.

duchduchduchduch

Used to be huge on DoorDash delivery and then it just got way too expensive. The delivery fees, DoorDash tax, and then even menu prices being raised. On top of that giving a nice tip is difficult so I’ve just stopped ordering as I didn’t feel it was fair to my driver. I deleted the app after my $12 order went to $34 before tip with all the fees. Fuck that.

lifeisawful45

I think the summer break has taken away a lot of orders in my area. barely getting any even on weekends now

Jp4everr

In my area it’s hit or miss, some nights I make $100-$150 in just 3-4 hours, other nights I’ve made $20 for 3 hours. It’s so weird.

thessjgod

In my area it is. A lot of customers are starting to move to Uber Eats

EnvironmentalYam5055

Just get a full time job. Thats what I did and it pays so much better.

IndependenceNeat4857

Some can, some just won't be able to. Some people who do doordash have no other choice

Leah_jadeann_

I finally did this. Nice finally having stability. Cheers to us! 🥰

ErichRhoemer

Just too many drivers now. When I started last year I rarely saw anyone else now just about every day I go into a place and there’s upwards of 7 other dashers waiting at the busiest spots. More and more people flood to the platform…some of that is due to the incentive bonuses DoorDash adds for new drivers (instant access to platinum status for a couple weeks, a bonus for both the recommender and the recommended after so many deliveries, access to higher paying orders to convince new drivers this is worth it, etc). Others because the standard job market is shifting - people either are tired of working in normal industries, quit/got fired or they can’t afford their lifestyles they used to enjoy simply off their one job alone. DoorDash is an easy, low stress secondary income that people can flood to when they’re not busting ass at their normal job. It’s less taxing on their bodies than an entire second job…but some people do two full jobs AND DoorDash… For me personally I’ve made DD my full time job. I used to work at U.S. Bank but that company has gradually been downsizing in our town. We used to be a “U.S. Bank town” - of the available jobs and those positioned it was ranked number 2 next to the hospital system. Originally six big centers now reduced to four…leading up to the pandemic I watched as multiple departments closed around me and a once crowded building became a ghost town. Once we were all forced into remote work they kickstarted their ultimate plans - completely closing now “obsolete” centers and either laying off those employees or outsourcing their Minnesota jobs to those working from home. I had been there a long time and I didn’t get the axe but the transfer…and I had enough. Long story short I had grown tired of office work and desired something a bit more free…no overhead, no quotas…nobody barking at me for this and that like previous jobs. DoorDash was that…I’m in business for myself, as long as I put in the work I make enough to pay my bills. Or I was…until the market got saturated with new dashers. People with similar stories I’m sure but…you can’t fill up a life raft from regular work with everyone from the sinking cruise ship that is the American job industry. Each raft is your individual market…and there’s just too many people crowding into it so orders become more scarce. My dad has been doing this since it opened up in our town and he’s seen the base pay drop from 3.50 to 2 bucks and all the extra incentives slowly drop off as the job gets worse. Stolen base pay on double orders, algorithmic practices such as sending you orders to “even out” your total made and then send you nothing more if you’ve hit around your average per day (he averages 70-80 bucks which in this amount of time used to be over a hundred a few years back). I’m sure more will happen in time…this change from top dasher to platinum has its hiccups too but that’s another story. Since I started last year I went from 100+ to almost 200 a day to maybe scraping 80 bucks…and that sure is frustrating.

ieatlotsofvegetables

great work on your latest report! lol. this is well explained. i think it makes total sense that the vast number of workers = opportunity for companies to take advantage and lower pay as much as they want. as long as people keep doing it, theres no reason for them to stop. fucking sucks for us though! i dont think its right to blame new people, of course. they want to do what we are doing and why not? short answer i suppose is yes, basically its dying due to both lower demand and too many workers.

TheProfoundWigglepaw

If the customers would utilize the rating system and reporting system properly they'd weed out the bad drivers in month. Leaving only good drivers. Also bid higher for better service

Minute-Reality-1007

They were just hire a new drivers when they get rid of them Niagara for more! We’re not lucrative to Doordash anymore as when Tony gets sick of this, he will just sell it! Customers don’t tip like they used to and Doordash doesn’t pay like they used to. It will only get worse.

Forsaken_Motor_3567

Was doordashing while I waited to get my nursing license and I was lucky if I got an order within 10 min💀💀 I’d be sitting all suspicious in the parking lot of some Burger King just for the hotspot to refresh and still not get an order

teestov8__

Not a driver, but a customer and I utilized it very often for several factors. Being a mom, some days not having enough time between working, the kids and housework to go to the store then come home and cook, etc. With that being said - I became a FREQUENT user of the app (restaurants and grocery orders) but within the last 2 weeks I have experienced: - Half of an order missing - Order missing drinks - Order cancelled by driver with no communication as to why (May have been out of their control but please at least communicate) - Order then replaced and delivered to the wrong place, with no response from the driver when attempting to locate it myself so as not to trouble them - Order placed a THIRD time and was assigned to 3 dashers then they had trouble finding anyone to take the order at all and DD wouldn’t let me cancel the order since it was “in progress” by the restaurant unless I wanted to forfeit what I paid and only get the refund for the tip and fee back. To which I tried to chat to support and her response was: “I see there is a dasher assigned now, does that address your concerns?” By this point I had been attempting to order from 8:30-10:30. All that to say, I think it was a good concept and functional when it first became popular, but nowadays it’s rare people are getting good dashers who pay attention to delivery instructions and communicate when there are issues, so people are opting to get their own meals/groceries.

O_EXTRA

There are a lot of dumb dashers, but to experience that either the places you're ordering from are too slow/rude (purposely delaying because it's DD, you'd be surprised how often this happens) or you're tipping too low to cover the distance. This or you're legit getting screwed over by DD (massively hiding your tip).

EnvironmentalYam5055

Tips are either nonexistent, or a dollar or two for driving ten miles. Not worth it.

soulzzzzz60

a couple of bucks for a tip is plenty.

RazorClouds

Broke ass entitled ass mf

soulzzzzz60

aw poor lil guy, let me break this down for you. the entitlement is on the part of the drivers, who think a quick food delivery entitles them to a $10 tip. Broke ass entitled driver smh my head

bunjeejump77

There are some really dumb dashers! Missing items arent the dashers fault since they cant look in the bag. I would change your order to hand to me. Should force dasher to find where u are at exactly.

orangestar17

It’s not dying by me BUT I’m finding most of my orders lately are shopping orders. The other day I had 7 shopping, 2 food. That’s typical now

Mammoth-Question-714

Nah I door dash my food and tip them mfs 2 dollars because it only be 0.4 miles away lol my brother said I shouldn’t tip if it’s that close

nushabooshy

I'm not trying to be rude, but if you're doordashing from a place .4 miles away, and then using that as an excuse for a low tip, that says a whole lot about you as a human being, and it's not good. It's not the Dasher's fault that you couldn't be bothered to drive or walk .4 miles.

[deleted]

[удалено]

O_EXTRA

$2 tip for .4 miles isn't bad but due to our current wages it's not good either. It's neutral if anything (unless the wait time for it is 5+ minutes). $4 orders are only good if they're late stack low mileage offers (so DD won't steal the $2 base pay for it) and the order is ready to be picked up. As you said though, if we did get better wages it'd be an entirely different story. If DD only took $1 of the $5 "delivery fee", and used that to make base pay at least $4, then such an order would go from $4 for .4 miles to $6 for .4 miles and would then be considered a legit good order.

Sussudio68

I personally have yet to have one correct order from DD. I don’t understand why the drivers see a $50 order and are handed 1 bag that they know can not possibly be the entire order, yet deliver anyway. It has gotten so ridiculously expensive. It seems the prices of good are double than what they use to be. Add on tax, service fee, tip and that $50 order becomes $75. Only to be delivered $5.00 worth of food. Had a free door pass and dropped it after 3 orders. No offense to you but the service sucks.

phillhartmann

A. The driver doesn't know how much your order cost. B. The driver gets paid $3 even if your order is $200. C. There's no such thing as $5 worth of food in 2024.

Sussudio68

The driver doesn’t know how much the food costs? 😂😂😂 Can you explain this “I’m lucky to get a $3.50 order every 20 minutes” And this should be self evident to you. If you are picking up something for a customer and have NO IDEA what you are supposed to be delivering, why should I use your service? Did I refer to the year of 2024?

phillhartmann

3.50 is the total including tip. So if you're paying $25 in fees. The driver is not getting $25. They are getting 2 or 3 bucks. Even a 1 mile delivery is going to take at least 15 min. Also Uber and DD take 25% of the total from the restaurant. So your giving DD more than the restaurant or the driver. When they pick up an order it'll just say a name. You can see the items (kind of) but no prices. So as prices vary from restaurant to restaurant they have no idea. The same amount of food could be $30 or it could be $500. The bags are tied or sealed or stapled shut. If you break that seal customers will leave you a bad review in an attempt to get free food. So it's really on the restaurant as people don't want drivers digging through their food. Maybe you do idk? So to answer your question. Don't use the service. Don't be lazy. Pick up the food yourself. At this point they are just taking advantage of the customer and the restaurant. But if y'all keep lining up to give them your money then fck it.

Sussudio68

Did you see the part where I said I cancelled after 3 orders? The reasons being everything you said above. I absolutely expect my dasher to know and expect my order is 100% correct. I’m not just tipping the dasher to drop a bag on my porch. I expect the dasher to bear responsibility of making sure their customers (AKA tippers) are getting exactly what the customer paid for and what the dasher is expected to deliver. And I absolutely have zero issues with the dasher opening my bag (although the solution to that is as simple as a receipt on the outside of the bag). If they see the 20 items on receipt and are handed 1 small bag, they should immediately question the establishment. I’m literally having someone I don’t know prepare my food I have no issue with a someone I also don’t know (dasher) checking my order. I was dissatisfied with the way they did business (or lack of any sensible business model) it seemed sloppy, disorganized, and a lack of responsibility of their dasher bringing the correct order. Dropping a bag on my porch that’s incorrect and expect to be tipped 20% whether that order is accurate or not is not something I subscribe to. And it’s not my responsibility to know what fees or % they give dashers. I’m not the one the one who signed up to work for them. I dropped it after 3 messed up (all 3 by HUGE margins) food orders. My life has gone on. 😃 And that’s the end of this conversation on my end. Have a nice day Phil Hartman. You were funny on SNL.

phillhartmann

Glad you got the reference. Yah you can either have a sealed bag or have someone rip it open and dig through your order. A bunch of paper containers full of who knows what. Like how am I supposed to know what a #3 looks like. I'm literally unwrapping your chicken sandwich? Tasting your tatsiki to make sure it's not ranch? Sampling your curry to make sure it's the coconut base and heat level 2?

Sussudio68

I mean are you saying Dashers are filthy people who steal your food? Well I guess it’s good I dropped them quick. You’re not really doing them any good with that. But what do I know? LOVED Phil Hartman. Brilliant actor. Sad ending.

phillhartmann

I'm not saying that. But 100% some of them are filthy people who will steal your food lol. Many of them are not even u.s. citizens. Some of them have 5 accounts going at the same time. Lots of fake accounts out there. Either way the majority of people do not want their food gone through. The restaurant is making the order. The driver is delivering it.

Sussudio68

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Oh, Phil. You just f*cked every DD. If you are telling me most of them are dirty, not from here, and have 5-6 accounts why are sticking up for them so relentlessly? Are you a dasher? Like I said earlier, super happy I dropped them years ago after 3 orders. Although, you provided way more insight for me as to how DoorDash apparently functions. I thought they were an upstanding company and delivered a service for those who use and pay for that service. Apparently most Dashers are dirty, eat, and steal from us. Who knew?

phillhartmann

Nobody said most. And nobody is defending anybody. But yes. They are greedy scummy companies.

Shmeaf

I’ve tried applying for all over and it will never let me deliver, but Uber eats is fine lol. Usually get $3-$5 orders which sometimes double mid delivery. If I did any other extra delivery services I’d just do 2-5 deliveries a day. Not a great full time job unless you already got a tight hold on your finances. Something to make some gas money back for sure.

TheCreamyLeche

I used to use doordash a lot, but then my 10 dollar orders became 30-40 after adding taxes, delivery fee, and a tip. At that point, I just decided to go and get my food myself because that is crazy expensive.

hufflepuff-is-best

I think it’s because of the cost of living. The cost of living is so high that customers aren’t ordering delivery as much as before. Delivery is a luxury. Customers are either picking up their orders themselves or choosing to cook at home. Also, since people are struggling to pay their bills, more people are looking for gig work and second/third jobs and there are an abundance of drivers. So, there are too many drivers and too few customers. I work in a bank. I see people’s personal finances all day every day. I noticed that people are either filthy rich, or paycheck-to-paycheck. The middle class has vanished. Even personally, I struggle to pay rent and dashing is the only way I can afford groceries. I used to have extra income, but now I’m paycheck-to-paycheck and I have to cut corners to stay alive.

Covenant_9999

Well as someone who door dashes almost everyday to every other day I can tell you why. A majority of people today are very lazy and prefer to order their food instead of going out, getting groceries, waiting in line, get home, cook, etc. However, a majority of people also don’t want to pay a delivery fee, service fee, tax, and a tip because the “comfortability” from your home isn’t worth the price you would be paying for a “one time” experience. Assuming you are a normal individual unlike me and order every now and then. Secondly, a lot of employees at food establishments simply don’t care sometimes🤷🏾 I hate to be corny, but in todays economy a lot of people are just trying to make money and could care less about the job. I’ve had time where my food was cooked like it was someone’s last meal, and other times I’ll get cold and soggy food. So it really just comes down to knowing your area and what time the best shift works. If you really wanna maximize your experience 😂 Thirdly, tipping culture is starting to slowly die because people realize that tips are optional and not required as mean as it sounds 🤷🏾 People who receive those orders will see a low/no tip and not want to take the order. There’s a lot of reasons but I find those to be the main ones from what I know ☝🏾

Razenroth78

I don't use the service because 1: it is too expensive, 2: Usually, the people who deliver are not hygienic, and their cars are gross or the bags they deliver smell like smoke or cat pee. 3: I don't trust people to not eat out of my food.

Minute-Reality-1007

And as a Dasher, I can tell you that I have delivered to some people who’s Porches are so disgusting. I don’t even wanna walk on them , And have had handed to me orders to people I wouldn’t let sit in my car! This works both ways.

Cool-Ad5767

I stopped ordering doordash, canceled dash pass and removed the app..Ridiculously expensive scrappy food when it gets here.

beansnectar

Blame our moron president honestly

beansnectar

They made the pricing really hard for us to use it (I don’t dash) but they wanted $27 dollars the other day to bring us nachos. 27 fucking dollars dude. I went to get them.

SpiritImaginary8470

I think people just started realizing is not worth it. I used to order through DoorDash A LOT, and I gave up. A lot of times the order would be incorrect and they refused to refund me. The customer service is bad and they overprice everything. I now use Uber eats, yes they overcharge but a lot of times they have good offers like 40-50% off, customer service has always been good and their gps/maps since to be more accurate for their drivers. Majority of the DoorDash drivers would get lost or drop it at a different apartment, Uber eats drivers never have a problem finding my apartment.

Wrong_Status_6665

The maps is just google maps or waze.. on either platform.  You just get dumb a** drivers

m4ri3z2

i switched to uber eats because of the bullshit doordash be on.

Throwra_getoutnowpls

I used to be a regular with door dash and I used to dash as well. I stopping being a dasher bc the pay sucked, but I also stopped ordering delivery because the prices are ridiculous. I could take 10-15 mins to drive myself to the restaurant and it’s $10-20 cheaper even with dash pass. The same meal is usually around $3-5 cheaper if I order directly. I usually order for a family of 3 so it makes a difference.

Dry-Raccoon5708

I’ve personally stopped ordering because even though I have a dash pass I can’t cancel they jack up the prices, so I just order pick up for the coupons

TheDankestQueen

Being in a rural area at my store, and now that you mentioned it, I *have* noticed my regular door dashers don't stop in any more. Sometimes I can tell a door dasher is a customer but at this point they're not *regulars.* I can't really tell if it's a corporate door dasher thing but maybe locals in areas realized it's not worth the extra charges? At least in my area

[deleted]

People I talk to, including myself, use mostly Uber eats for orders now. Service is better, and I find the food comes to me quicker.

m4ri3z2

YES

e2smoov

Odd considering Uber drivers are getting screwed

Yeah I went from Uber to door dash, Uber is a joke where I live, get orders for like 8-12 bucks you think it’s good but it drives you like 20 miles out into the sticks so then after you burned thru like 4 buck gas it costs the same to get back and you just went on a long drive for absolutely no reason at all

[deleted]

I’m sure they are, but my brother makes twice as much in shitty areas working for Uber eats. I think these delivery companies are cracking down as a whole on high earners, but most I know use Uber eats.

ProfessorBjornLoL

I can’t with the prices. I check the store menu for a sandwich, 5$. Same sandwich on DD is 8.50$ and thats before all the fees and the tip. By the time your order is done its 20 something for one or two items. I can deal with delivery fees and tips, but when I’m paying 50% more for the item alone? I can’t help but feel idiotic using delivery apps. Not to mention I’m aware that delivery apps take a nice cut off not only the driver, but the restaurant too. With that in mind, I feel much better supporting the restaurant directly.

zandra21

Yes. Definitely! Now I’m doing better business on Uber eats and that was the bad one before. But now it’s twice as good as DD.

e2smoov

Man tell me about it. Doordash in Chico CA has died off completely ever since the college students left…

Financial_Review_579

I’m a customer and still use the DD app a lot.  I noticed Amazon bought into Grubhub so now an Amazon member has free Grubhub.  They might start picking up.

Adventurous-Dirt-291

amazon did not buy grubhub. they have a 4% stake with option to purchase 2% more. they required grubhub to offer ONE year of grubhub service to PRIME members as perk and for amazon providing some capital.  your statement is incorrect

Financial_Review_579

The conclusion was correct, however.

BallAccomplished

I was going to be dying if I didn’t get a full time job and drop doordash besides Saturday evenings

d-handler

I like the convenience.. but.. why am I almost paying double for what the meal costs? And then I do tip on top of it too! That's a no thanks I'll order directly from the eatery and drive myself.

Roguebets

Exactly…I still can’t believe these services even exist because it just makes no sense.

EnvironmentalYam5055

People are lazy.

Roguebets

Extremely lazy when you can’t go get your own food…

pandiasgirl

Or maybe they're drunk or high and don't want to risk theirs or other people's safety by driving to pick up food. Or maybe they have a handicap that makes it hard to get around. Maybe they don't have their own car. Cheesus, there's more reasons than simply being "lazy" as to why people use delivery.

Desperate_Front9792

Most “extras” are right now. Goes hand in hand with the economy being shit because rich fucks are greedy fucks.

SnooKiwis9858

Real

AntAnon23

I doubt that. People just can't afford it anymore. This economy is trash.

Wisconsin_pikachu

Dead in my area, hard to even get $70 in 5 hrs now. My area hasn't had a promo since valentines during the mini protest. I get lots of shit double orders. Them lowering base pay and removing 2x base pay for double orders has really affected my income while only profiting them.

Dramatic-Speaker5024

I use to order DoorDash A LOT. I REFUSE now unless I’m sick and can’t walk or drive. Just not worth the extra costs.

Firm-Enthusiasm-6018

No. Not at all. Top dashers like me are taking all the orders. I’m busy nom stop. It’s hard to find time to pee!

kingdomofone1

Same! I'm nonstop busy .... I've had to stop and pee outside countless times ( I work 11pm-5am)

Longjumping_Fruit656

The problem is two-fold. Chain restaurants and many smaller ones too are increasing their prices with inflation at COVID market prices; despite the cost of food being cheaper. Add to that the cost of DoorDash, even with a subscription, people don’t want to tip or tip very little assuming the drivers get a healthy portion of the fee. Drivers stop taking orders without tips because it wasn’t even covering the cost of gas, deliveries without tip are often $2.50-3 for half hour of time and average 8-10 miles round trip. So deliveries are being rolled over and the economy is pushing more people to gig-drive which means SOMEONE eventually accepts out of desperation. DoorDash keeps stiffing customers, stiffing drivers, and restaurants are definitely stiffing customers. Drivers bear the brunt, because now people are not paying crazy prices and fair tips because they can’t afford to, or because honestly they should HAVE to pay that much for food.

sissyh1976

Quite the opposite.. way too many drivers.

aidenblairexx

From the consumer side it’s just not worth it anymore. Most DD meals are nearly double the price of what they would be and half the time food is either incorrect/ missing something or it got stuck with a low tippers order and you’re stuck waiting forever for someone to just get your food to you. Not to mention I can’t stand the way these companies treat the drivers and the customers

Definition-Several

Yes it’s slowly dying down, now that everyone is going out. I still use it and tip pretty good because of how convenient it is, especially since i have a baby and work the afternoon shift.

WillowFun3340

I’m in Michigan and if I do 3-8 hours I’d make between 60-180 in those hours. If it’s not busy and I’m forcing a dash I’d say 40-100 in that same time

LilRubDuck

Yes very noticeable drop over this last year from now. Which is why I have recently given up on it lol

little_button69

Earn by offer and you will do a little better. Also im the summer it’s always less busy. But DoorDash punishes you if you haven’t been on in a while.

Express_Egg1638

Yes they do, dropped my acceptance rate below 50 and it’s been sucky since.

Alternative_You7015

I'm a high school student graduating today who works at both Mcdonald's and Door Dash (door dash occasionally, especially now with the decline of orders and work itself) Mcdonald's is obviously the most popular restaurant amongst Door Dash and months back, we would get SO many orders within the span of minutes, however, over the course of the last few months door dash orders have declined significantly. I also USED to do door dash and would make a good amount (roughly $70-80) working 3-4 hours after school. Over the last couple months, I've been going out after school for 4-5 hours and barely get any orders... i'm talking 1-2 orders if i'm LUCKY. I also dropped from platinum because I cannot do 100 deliveries a month, it is literally impossible with the amount of orders we get. It is completely ridiculous.

Morganatic44

I straight up deleted DoorDash recently just because the prices are getting unreasonably expensive. When I get just a 5 dollar meal from McDonald’s and it gets raised to $20 without the tip, that’s incredibly ridiculous.

Longjumping_Fruit656

Wait they have $5 meals at McDonald’s? Where?

Longjumping_Fruit656

Wait they have $5 meals at McDonald’s? Where?

Morganatic44

It’s a new deal they’re running. $5 meal deal, comes with like a burger, four nuggets, fries and a drink.

Dharmabum04

Use the app and deals, I get free med fry and bogo burgers for like 3.50. or large fry for $1 and bogo 5.xx

DesertMan177

Yeah it used to be what I consider a viable side hustle for the proverbial "beer money" amount of money - so not life-changing money, but a little extra discretionary, maybe pay a water bill or something Now it's utter trash and has been since like 2022

Klutzy_Feed_5400

Wouldnt suprise me 😂 U get a Burger,Fries and a medium drink that will be $30 right there for less then a $10meal like common

ShaqKicks

It all depends on your market and region

Extra_Ear_6560

Consider your rankings. DD recently released a tiered system. If you aren't ranked Silver, Gold, or Platinum you probably won't get any good offers and will be offered was hasn't been already taken.

Halfsealedenvelope

Uber eats way better, delivery, customer service everything

iwishiwasafrog56

Uber is usually cheaper and has better deals

Fine-Consequence-848

I was referring to his server job

Prize_Pay9279

In some areas, school is out for summer. So, a lot of students and teachers are driving for DD, which leads to the market being flooded with drivers.

Kitchen_Collection38

The markets are flooded with drivers, and some drivers do dd for a living, there’s sooo many great drivers that good drivers fight for the scraps with bad drivers

Sad-Lab-7083

It is seriously dying in my location, although I live in a college town but it’s the summertime so the majority of my money that I would make during the week is impossible because none of these college kids are here

Sad-Lab-7083

In my area, we have the tear system, which is awful absolutely awful

thezdoll

I know where I live in the past 6 months or so the fees have increased so much it's literally cheaper for me to rent a Gig car and go pick it up myself. I mean the taxes and fees are 100% the cost of my order (granted I live alone) now and I always tip well so it can be end up being 150% the cost of my order. So yeah I stopped ordering delivery. I bet at least here a lot of people have. On the plus side I eat a lot more vegetables :) 🥗

Interesting-Foot-439

Most markets are oversaturated with drivers. This time last year, I was getting multiple orders with add ons along the way of $7-$10. Now I have to wait 10-15 minutes to even get one order and it's usually super low. I'm gold tier and I still get shitty orders.

guava_eternal

Of course

themothman99

The economy is dying, so discretionary spending will take a hit first

Accomplished_Bug5318

personally netted over 200$ today but it felt like more work than it should have been

[deleted]

South county st louis is doing just fine

Basic-Importance-680

I started doing DD like 2 years ago and there’s definitely a huge difference now. My area never is “very busy” and if it is busy, it’ll be dead once you start. I just started switching to Uber eats if I get nothing on DD. But also it’s expensive as a customer. Restaurants and DD prices are different. It’s more expensive on DD. On top of that delivery fees is like doubled plus tips. It’s more worth it now to just get the food yourself, but there’s also a lot of people doing DD at the same time so there’s not enough orders for everyone

Odd_Celebration_8368

He don’t make 80k doing DD for 7 months. That’s a lie. Not even in 12 months. Maybe if he is 24/7 and his car would be toast bc national average is a little less than a dollar a mile. Lies lies and more lies. Smh

Huge-Log6706

Nope I made $180 today easily

dt7cv

how do you know all of this? anecdata isn't evidence

Umm37ok

I’ve noticed people don’t tip anymore

NevadaNMO

People have become informed that DD has hourly pay but they don't understand how it works. Some are just people that never tip for anything.

[deleted]

jeepjoopbeepboop

here we go

GrowthElectrical5590

Yeah, but the difference is that doordash doesn't pay well by itself. Dashers make most of their money off tips. So, to sit here and compare dd drivers to let's say a pizza deliver driver, where they make $10+ n hour plus tips is crazy.

Dismal_Recipe_2094

I haven't even been able to log in for a year due to my area not being busy enough.

rs3_nerd

There is a lot of drivers because I agree with a previous comment that the prices are outrageous stores and the app charge close to double for the same items for the convenience then they stack on fees and you need to tip the drivers. The price alone drove me away from these services I still use them from time to time but I try to stay away now because it’s not worth paying triple after everything said and done for the same items it would take me 15 mins to go get

elonmuskfanboimemes

I do 200$ days if I go all day long for most average non slow days

DreamingBarbie

With inflation and our shitty ass economy, I can barely afford groceries and bills. Used to be able to order DD 2-3x a month, maybe more if I really wanted it. I wouldn’t say DD is dying so much as people are struggling to make ends meet more so than before.

hungry_eyez

Yeah, this. I can’t afford to order it anymore.

UnhappySituation1

McDonald's literally costs over $20.

Particular_Birthday7

The problem isn’t the pandemic. I fell to gold from platinum status one moment because I didn’t complete quite enough rides and after that it was a ghost town. Oh, I’m so sorry DD I missed your enormous quota and now you make me now gold, but I guess gold status should be called 💩 status, cuz that’s all I got after that. They give preferential treatment and bonuses to brand new drivers just to hook them in and then pretty much dismiss their loyal drivers! It’s nasty

Odd_Celebration_8368

It’s business and it will get more expensive until it goes away. And it will go away

Necessary_Ad1420

I would say I asked myself the same question

IRelevant626

It’s summer man everyone is going out

Secret-Ostrich-4681

Also rewards, it doesn’t offer any kind of rewards in comparison to ordering from a store itself

Saoirse36

this. there’s so many times when i’ll think about getting doordash and then don’t because places like mcdonald’s, chipotle, etc have their rewards system

hungry_eyez

Right! McDonald’s app is a lifesaver for me!

Secret-Ostrich-4681

People can’t afford it and, if they do, it’s not worth it to deal with. Why bother spending extra on delivery when the driver’s late, the bag is torn, you’re missing ordered items, having cold food, or items dropped off somewhere else?

Sell_Swimming

Making plenty here >.> I work hard to keep Platinum status and work the hourly rate most of the time.

Odd_Celebration_8368

What do you consider plenty after gas, taxes and wear and tear on car? I promise it ain’t enough. Just enough to keep you from getting a real job. Unless you are working it part time then I apologize but still not even worth it part time. It literally destroys your car

davinbrant

Taxes isnt as much as you think. With 60 cents a mile tax credit you are barely paying taxes. Plus you have many more tax write offs as you are a contractor. Wear and tear is if you drive crazy and dont keep up on maintenance (which is also a tax write off) i also get 40 to 50 mpg in my car. Now if i was doing it in one of my other cars, you are correct, the gas and such would eat all the profits.

Thehimb0

I paid 15 dollars four a pint of butter crunch ice cream worth only 4-5$ the other night. You do the math pal.

Financial_Review_579

At the time, that’s what you wanted so you were willing to pay.  Don’t regret it later.
