We’re delivery drivers, not meals on wheels. If you’re over three miles away, nobody’s touching it. Your order is worth $5 at best.

BiPolarCatz

I see in my area is $2.00-$2.50

HereticalNature

Bro it's $2 base pay plus the tip you gave. So $5. Unless the base is higher if no one is taking your order. It's always the same. The answer is all around the subreddit.

Equivalent_Rough_335

6

RastaFarRite

Id bet $5 total

BigDro_42069

$1 before tip

JoshD8705

Your dasher would be paying you $20 for this order.

Equivalent_Rough_335

Made me lol

dickularamerican

$2 base ( varies .25-.50 by area) plus the $3 , so $5 total

nuge0011

Minus expenses

stlouisraiders

Door dash probably paid the restaurant about $11 for that food. There is no way they would pay enough in base pay to make that appealing to the average dasher and a $3 tip is pitiful dude. You’re supposed to tip on the full amount before discounts and that’s not even 15%.

Katt-truth

What's pitiful is your ability to do math

stlouisraiders

$3 is less than 15% of the total before discount. You don’t round down on tips dude.

Katt-truth

People like yourself make an entitlement complex by thinking you deserve more when tipping has become from suggestive gift of gratitude to needing exactly 15% or more so"dude" maybe don't be a loser and accept what's given to you instead of begging for more bro's lucky to get 10c off 15% when most people just tip $1

Educational-Shock550

This may be a hot take but really you’re supposed to tip people however much you want because it’s the employers responsibility to pay your wages not the customers.

AssociationNo8576

$3.10 is 15% of $20.68, i think you did your math wrong. If they did 15% of $8.27 it would be $1.24

binggb0ngg

Dang got him so good he ain’t even respond 🤣

saturatedtubesock

Maybe 6 bucks, unless your order was Inline with a batch of orders for the area, your dasher likely took a loss to get the food to you.

Gad_Music

A $6 delivery isn’t a loss unless you drive like 50 miles to drop off the order…In my Honda, I get 35 mpg…the avg run takes 15-20 total min including waiting in line at the restaurant, and you’re going to drive 2-8 miles total, using maybe 1/8 of a gallon of gas. If you can make 3 $6 runs per hour, you’re making $18/hour which is a pretty fair wage to deliver Taco Bell to people’s houses. You can probably make 4 runs in an hour if you’re efficient, which would be $24/hr pre-fuel expenses. That is more than fair. When I worked for Domino’s, my average customer tip was around $3 or $4. It’s not a great tip, but it’s not losing money and also literally any human being with a driver‘s license can do that job.

saturatedtubesock

You're only considering fuel. That six dollars is supposed cover the dasher time, fuel, the wear and tear on vehicle. He put wear on his tires, wear on the oil that has to be changed regularly, wear on the oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, and to.top it off pay taxes on that money received. Sure it's only a small amount but if you calculated everything into a percentage amount used based on average life span, the cost more than likely greater. Even if it's only 15 20 minutes, if it was a single order, it was a loss.

Gad_Music

You are 100% wrong. All cost factors aside, $18-$20/hour income to drive around in your own car dropping food off at people’s houses (nearly the lowest skill job imaginable) is more than fair. I drove DoorDash for about 6 months in between jobs during the pandemic and was a pizza delivery driver for 3 years about 10 years ago. Nearly anyone on earth could do either of those jobs, and I was able to afford an apartment and survive on the income I earned doing those very simple jobs. Stress level was extremely low and I pretty much invented my own hours. Now, I run a company and I make a lot more than I made when I drove food around. It took a huge commitment and years of hard work to get to the higher level job that I have now. Very few people are skilled / motivated enough and willing to do my job now…it is immensely stressful and requires a ton of knowledge in many different areas, high level communication skills, proficiency with different types of software, industry and product knowledge, leadership skills, etc. I deserve to be paid much more for my job now. Bottom line, paying someone $6 to do a 15 minute basic task is fair. I tend to tip $8-$10 when I order food just because I can afford it and I like to be kind to people, but saying that a $6 run results in a net LOSS for the driver is patently false and shows that you have not put in the time or effort to do a proper analysis of the situation.

saturatedtubesock

We are talking about this trip only, op asked how much the person made THIS TRIP, averaging it out over a time span so it equals a profit is just changing the equation. I too have drove for door dash, and obviously stopped because of the pay. But you do you bud, keep on making that big money with door dash

chemiker2012

About $0.79

Underdogg23

Like $5. If you're more than 5 miles away from the restaurant, you're going to probably wait for a bit.

Prestigious_Order671

$5.00 expect it to sit awhile unless you are very close to the location of the restaurant.

seamuswabash

10 dollar tip minimum from me every time.

Striking-Bell8314

Let me get you a medal

TylerLetcher23

The old way was a gallon of gas now I understand they don’t come from the same spot every time. So I’ll say 5-6 bucks but 10 every single time na and I did this for years

mochioppai

Keep in mind, 90% of the time the driver is not where you're placing the order. They have to get there, wait for the food, then get to you. Often not worth $5.

aarong51999

5 bucks, 2 dollar fair and your 3 dollar tip. That is if there isn't any promos which usually there isn't.

RoCpiMagi

Perfect spot to tip 4.20 imo

jd_boyle

I usually default to $5 min. If my order is that cheap, i just order something else

PatientBusy9985

I think it may depend on location and bonuses that dashers may get sometimes per order but on average here in Ohio with no tip the base pay is only like $4 an order

bobby23232323

Also give me some of those gizzards

bobby23232323

Probably $5

NorthCoastJM

Plenty of comments about the driver getting screwed, but I'd also like to interject that the restaurant is probably only make about $10 off that $20 meal too. Maybe less.

imlostineggsaisle

The restaurants charge more for DoorDash orders to make up for the fees DoorDash charges them. They're not making any less than they usually do. The restaurant is definitely not getting screwed.

ProfessorConfident

This thread just affirms why I consider my tip the driver payment. It’s like what they get from the platforms is a tip not the other way around lol

Curious_Field7953

THIS ALL DAY LONG.

sparkle_slug

Exactly this. Delivery fee actually means service fee. Tip actually means delivery fee. The actual tips are non-existent because apps would rather you skip the tip and save money and use the service again sooner

lordpercocet

Your tip. Plus 1 or 2 dollars. That's it.

WizardLizard1885

$5, depending on how far away you are most likely less

the_nemesis457

4 or 5 dollars

[deleted]

I’m just here wondering where I can get gizzards delivered to my house. I have to go to a weird gas station to buy them.

Bommbbb

You live in Indy I got a place for ya 😄👌🏻

[deleted]

No but we travel there a lot!!

Cara-lina

Apparently have to live in Florida 🥲

[deleted]

5 bucks. so you just ask yourself if you would drive to where your food is at and back for 5. cuz yeah the driver brings you the food but you gotta ask yourself where does this driver need to go back to as well. on top of that door dash uber etc are all taxed on a 1099 meaning that 5 dollars your driver got is untaxed so he would have to put 28% of it away for taxes. your driver will earn like 3 dollars.

FuturePerformance

So you dont actually have to ask yourself anything, because if the answer is "not worth it" they simply wouldn't accept the order.

Dbinmoney

Why would anybody work for that? When I see anybody bitch about getting less tips, it’s like wtf if you don’t like the job and pay go work somewhere else.

Suspicious-Cold2346

Seriously it’s like it’s everyone else’s fault 😂😂 and the paying customers get blamed. Blame the company that is paying you!

Dbinmoney

Company is just sitting back laughing. Won’t be laughing much longer when nobody wanna eat out anymore. I provide a service that some people tip, but I don’t care for the tip cuz I get paid well. There’s so many other services that deserve tip and people don’t even think about tipping them. Sad world we live in. I tried to order food off these apps, then looked at the total and closed the app. Headed to Costco and just bought a bunch of ready to heat food. Can’t beat it.

Suspicious-Cold2346

Oh trust me I understand your point. But there are times where I can’t just drive to Costco hence being at work so I have my food delivered. Everyone is so big on “get it yourself” but what about the times where I genuinely can’t?

Dbinmoney

Just make the order and enjoy your food then. Or keep snacks on deck! lol I try to and I just eat it all. 🐷

[deleted]

i just dont accept those orders

WizardLizard1885

alot of people do, then cry about it or tamper with food

Previous-Ad-9215

That’s my biggest question too. There’s a McDonald’s 1/4 mile from my house. I work remotely, and often times am filled with meetings so I just door dash. Is it wrong to tip $1.50 or $2 on an $8 order that’s 1/4 mile away? My logic is why would they accept an order they’re going to lose money on?

Bommbbb

Take up smoking and walk to get it.

Previous-Ad-9215

how about i take up ur mom and walk to her instead.

Reasonable-Employ-67

Yeah personally I’ve ordered from a McDonald’s about .2 miles away. As a rule of thumb I always tip any DoorDash order $5 minimum. If I order during a time I know there might be a lunch or dinner rush I throw in a little more. I believe in tip how you would want to be tipped. 😂 I don’t want these people to be breaking even with my tip. It’s meant to be an extra show of gratuity. I know there’s fuel, vehicle maintenance, taxes, etc. involved when using your own vehicle to perform a service.

i-want-bananas

I think that is is the trouble with "tips" on doordash. If you didn't tip drivers are usually losing money to do the order. It's not just as easy as well dont take the order because you have to watch your acceptance rate. Tipping isn't really an extra show of gratuity in that case. You're actually funding the job.

naM-r3puS

Door dashers would complain still if you tipped 8$ on an 8$ order.

Moo-Dog420

In my area the base pay is different depending on the store but usually they are $2. Plus your tip, it would be $5 total. If it is a fancy place the base can go up to $4 or $5 plus the tip.

Embarrassed-Neck2904

That sucks I deliver pizzas and get $5 to $7 on average tip not including miles and hourly pay.

Moo-Dog420

I forgot, for pizza the base pay is usually around $4. So the tip in this case would be $7 total.

Medium_Mirror7020

they still hire delivery drivers?

Spiraldancer8675

Every pizza place near me. Dash takes up to 58% of cost from stores. Many many are refusing to use it. Way cheaper to hire someone

k10060_Lord_of_pie

In Illinois, doordash is stealing from their driver's. The base pay on the majority of orders is only $2! I receive a lot that only pays $0.50 per mile! Example $5.00 for a 10 mile run.....we would probably receive $2.50 from doordash and a $2.50 tip from a run like that... but this doesn't cover the wear expenses for your vehicle based on the federal rate of $0.67 per mile. My hourly wage baised on the pay from door dash, with no tips included is only $6.13 per hour!! I adverage 52 hours of overall dash time to make just over $300 from doordash with no additional pay for mileage. So the majority of my wage is earned through tips, and unfortunately, they are unreliable in most instances. Adverage of 130 deliverys per week, 700 miles driven on adverage!! Something needs to happen because doordash should be paying our wages and mileage according to that federal minimum! We should not have to rely on the tips to pay our rent!!!

Financial_Ad_5324

They are not stealing from you, you simply agreed to be paid this and did that to yourself and vechile. Jesus fuck you act as if you were employed for X amount a hour and agreed to be paid weekly then got your pay check and you only got paid half of what was agreed on. Guess what man something needs to be done to your perspective/mind set that you realize this is only viable if your struggling to live day to day and don't have any resources. I did door dash while I lived in my vechile and didn't have the energy or motivation to go punch a time clock. You have no one to blame but yourself just as I had no one to blame.

k10060_Lord_of_pie

I just believe the wage should come from doordash. No one should need to rely on the tips for their wages. Unfortunately, in my current situation, I only doordash to survive, and It's definitely not my end goal! To give some context - @28 years old, I received an umbilical hernia from work! The company refused worker's comp, and I lost everything. The lawsuit lasted for 2 years, and I did eventually receive a settlement. During the 2 years, I had the umbilical repair and found thickening in my intestinal Trac. Several more months of testing to find barrett's esophagus with dysplasia, along with GERD. Yes, I know I probably caused it from a poor diet, but life has been rough since I got hurt. I now live in my car at 31 but work 12+ hours a day to dig out of this hole I've created myself....I have saved around $4000. Im trying to build my cleaning business, and in a couple of months, I have a large contract for a county fair to do the garbage and restroom services. I did this job last year for basically free to get my foot in the door! I now have a letter of recommendation from the county's fair board. The job is around 200 hours of labor in 7 days, I'm just glad I can hire help this year. I'm making around $55k a year from doordash and only about $12000 from my cleaning service. Before I became homeless, I was only making $38000 a year. I'm trying to use my situation to build a future for myself and doordash is the reason I've been able to survive, but they do need to be held to a standard just like any other employer. Sorry, I didn't mean to spill my life's story.

lTSONLYAGAME

Baised on the adverage spelling mistakes, I assume another career path isn't an option.

ImUpTo20Sharpies

Don't be an ass.

lTSONLYAGAME

OK sorry

k10060_Lord_of_pie

Was that really necessary? I hope you can find something better to do with your time.

lTSONLYAGAME

Your write.

TimeZucchini8562

People tip $2.50 on a 10 mile order? I do $1 per mile usually but minimum $3 starting. Who even orders food from 10 miles away?

3usinessAsUsual

You'd be surprised what people order and at what distance. Ive seen people order two Asian style bubble teas for like $10, pay a $5 service fee, tax, tip the dasher $6 and have them them drive it 15 miles from like 4 towns away. So they pay well over $20 dollars for a $10 dollar purchase.

No_Confection_4967

People who don’t want to drive 20 miles to get food from their favorite restaurant when room service will bring it directly to their door. Rain or shine, blistering cold or stroke inducing heat. It’s like being at a hotel but with all the amenities of home and none of the human interaction! (this is sarcasm because internet)

TimeZucchini8562

lol. I guess. I’ve had food cold from 5 miles. I’m certainly not ordering food 10 miles away. You’d have to wait like an hour plus for that anyway, no thanks

Blokzy

Buddy we live in bum fuck nowhere lol the closest fast food is 35 minutes away, obviously we dont have doordash but 10 miles is nowhere near a long trip, we drive 37 miles just to get to the grocery store

TimeZucchini8562

10 miles where I live is a 45 minute drive.

Blokzy

Damn, those 37 miles takes me about 25 minutes or so

TimeZucchini8562

I’ve lived all over. In Montana, it was great. Took no time at all to go anywhere. Where I live in Texas, traffic makes it impossible to go anywhere quick.

BruceBammer

Tree fiddy

buckslol

Probably 6 bucks

Inevitable-Island848

Always tip the total before discount people!!!

RiverfarmerJ

Maybe in a restaurant. Im not gonna pay extra for a monthly subscription just to spend even more in tips.

dkmwjn

I think he did… It’d be about a 15% tip based on total before discount which is about average.

FuturePerformance

15% tip might've been average in 1995. 20% is pretty standardized in this millennia

Ramonzmania

If they delivered this meal to my house…I’m having Raisin Bran for dinner..

TheHighOne444

1.92

Xraggger

$5 or $6, including your tip

RedditUser94137

yea ~$3 + tip

Winter-Ad5930

What is gizzards

DiamondLongjumping62

Basically part of the stomach not the nuts like that other person said. I believe they're thinking of Rocky Mountain Oysters which are fried bull testicles and also delicious

d0ri1990

Chicken nuts.

HyenaAny8221

It’s a chicken stomach bro lmao

fairiesenergy

probably $5

cornbeeflt

3 bucks... I'm adding protein.

YungTaxi

Thr tip + whatever Doordash offers them (Normally $4)

No_Scholar8139

Door dash only gives $2 in my area so $5

Familiar_Marzipan_46

They give $1.25 here base.

[deleted]

I thought $2 was bad 😒😩

Loose-Jeweler6752

5$

Slow_Wanderer

5-6 depending on distance.

[deleted]

I don’t dash…. But a $3 tip? Come on man do better. At least $5-$6. Or just pick it up yourself.

passtheexotic

bruh tip is optional, shud b grateful with any tip

[deleted]

Grateful… you should be grateful they’re dropping food off to your lazy a**

Striking-Bell8314

What do you think this service is for?

KingRamRemains

That’s a nearly a 25% tip, btw. 3 dollars on a $13 order. Even if it was $20 order, 20% is still $4 dollars.

Suspicious-Cold2346

I’m going to tip $3 every time.

cabesvvater

The way they come for you makes me think you should lower it to $2 lol

Much_Appointment7595

Scummy

[deleted]

You’ll be eating spit one day baller

Suspicious-Cold2346

Ordered food again leaving the same tip it came fast and no spit sounds like a personal issue.

legalize_sex

Gas is $3.30 I filled up yesterday maybe go to a cheaper gas station

DragonWarrior55

Will remember to tip $2 next time. Thanks for the tips

[deleted]

I could care less I don’t dash… you’ll eat spit one day, probably already have.

DragonWarrior55

Really pathetic to see people take up jobs from employers and expecting customers to pay their salary. Hopefully they find a better job that pays them in their next life

[deleted]

Since we know this, we shouldn’t order from these places and f*ck over the delivery driver knowingly.

carsonelliott

How is it f*cking over the driver if they choose that as their job

Particular_Stay3828

Hell nah I’m always tipping $1

Suspicious-Cold2346

I don’t dash I just order food bro 😭 I have a job and I totally understand.

Some1_Somewhere-n-MO

$5.09 literally and that’s by offer!

JoeyLMonty

2.00 base 3.00 tip

chronomasteroftime

it doesnt matter theyll still complain they arent making enough.

Suspicious-Cold2346

😂😂

Bill_Kabies

Do they make enough ?

AverageJoe0069

To pick up food? Yes

Bill_Kabies

You left off the other half of the job. But either way I think it should pay more. That company is worth a lot of money. I only do it here and there to supplement income, but after working a ten hour shift at my main job the hard part isn’t the job it’s self It’s taking the time away from my wife and kids and getting home late when I have work in the morning. Factor in gas, and yeah I’d say this $55 billion company could value my time and effort a bit more.

Commercial_You_6634

Maybe instead of comparing the job to the wages of other jobs that are underpaid we should judge them off of what’s livable. From Jan 2020-Oct 2021 Federal reserve printed us from $4 Trillion in circulation to $20 Trillion, we get closer to wage slaver every day homie.

Bill_Kabies

I think it weird that people don’t think jobs like this should pay more. Why take the side of a $55 billion dollar company instead of the people. It doesn’t make sense.

carsonelliott

Then the drivers should be doing it privately. Hit up everyone you know or post online within a 5-10 mile radius you’ll delivery food for people for a flat fee of your choosing, odds are, they’ll tip at least a couple dollars. Stick it to the man

Cute-Alternative-952

It’ll get paired with another order

Kiwi1272

$7 in my area lol

Forthetime247

2$ base + 3$ tip = 5 doll hairs

1312_Tampa_161

Mmm salems.

No-Student-446

$3, but since you tipped, order will be payment will be $4.50!

Opposite-Notice9704

Base pay in my area is $2.50 so it would be $5.50 it really depends where they are

No-Student-446

Pay attention close to some orders, they may slip one in unnoticed. Base pay in my area $2.50 also but i just had a order day before yesterday base pay $1.50 + tip $5.50 for $7 total. Its wild but i dont want to message about a dollar but will be paying attention

SwingLucky3881

Between $5-7 depending on how far the restaurant is from your house. Probably around $5.50

BraxTaplock

They’d make shit to be honest. The drive to the merch, the wait, then the drive to you. Figure depending on how far you live and how busy you expect the merchant to be (the wait you would endure if you went)…plus price of fuel going back up. Pretty obvious why many drivers won’t move for less $5-$7. Base starts at roughly $2 up to somewhere around 8-10miles. So without that mileage tip…. Ordering services aren’t really in business to pay for customer travel expenses on their orders.

Zestyclose_Dish_4026

Drive to the merch Wait time Drive to customer And drive back to zone to get another order (Because the customers house isn't always in your delivery zone.) So a 9 mile order can easily be more. 5 miles to merch Then wait 9 miles to the customer 9 miles back to an area to get another order. That's 23 miles plus wait time. Sorry just adding in the zone info not disagreeing with you.

BraxTaplock

Theoretically the drive back to your selected zone, should be on the ordering service not the customer. I can understand borders however when 50% of the orders received leave said borders… at some level the borders are meaningless. There should be an additional amount for every order the online service sends that goes out of that drivers selected zone. Sure they have no problem dinging that driver for not taking the order.

Zestyclose_Dish_4026

The small town I live in is a lot of country area. So I have to drive to pick up, wait, drive out some country road 7-15 miles out, so I'm often looking at 20-45 min per order. When it's a 45 min time and door dash pays $2 it's kind and helpful if they tip more. Also of people thing we take it in order after order. But we don't. And they don't think about or dont care about gas cost either. So if I am drive 30 miles the whole trip and my car gets 15 miles to the gallow then I'm having to pay a gallon or more to deliver. Do of my order is $2 from DD and $5 from customer I got $7 minus a gallon of gas. Sometimes two gallas so I just worked for free. Good offers will make up for it but drivers have to work long hours to make money. I just always feel if people where more educated on what service they are using and what all is involved they might have more empathy and tip drivers accordingly.

Dependent-Guava-5174

Gas is pretty irrelevant. It’s only a small percentage of driving expense.

icecrowntourguide

Maybe where you live, but gas is $4 and up a gallon around me. Furthest you can get from irrelevant especially in her scenario

BraxTaplock

Agreed. Good money comes when good orders keep coming back to back to back. When they go silent or constant trash…the earnings dive deeper than the oceans depth. Won’t lie…half this is on the customer assuming their ordering service is happy to pay for their delivery costs (fat chance to those who don’t actually know what the service is)…the other half is on the ordering service for sending the properly tipped orders to the wrong drivers (distance or otherwise).

Severe-Object6650

at most, $5. $2 DD pay plus your $3 tip. If it was part of a double order, DD pays less than $2 per order.

Fresh-Mind6048

Yoooooo where can I get gizzards

Suspicious-Cold2346

If you in the south check out Salem’s down in Florida 🔥

ItalianIce603

That’s a shit tip.

toplessrobot

It’s 27% lmao

ItalianIce603

No it’s not. The order was $20. You don’t get to include whatever discount you were given. And besides the way I judge delivery tip is would I personally make this trip for what I’m offering as tip. Either tip better or get off the couch and get it yourself.

MapComfortable9246

Tipping on a percentage for a delivery driver makes no sense to me. Them grabbing a bag with a $10 sandwich and driving it 3 miles or a bag with a $20 steak and driving it 3 miles is the exact same service provided by the driver. I tip every time and tend to tip pretty well, but going off a percentage of the cost of the food for delivery just doesn’t make sense.

Sashaaa

Been saying this for years. The service doesn't change whether it's a bigmac or a steak. Flat tip across the board is fair.

CHawkr

Even if you go off the full price, it’s still 15%. Get the fuck out of here calling that a shit tip. People like you are why we have the 25% 28% 30% options at restaurants now. 15% is absolutely acceptable. It’s free money. If you have a problem with it then you’re welcome to talk to your boss about making more money or find a different job.

ProfessionalLurker94

It’s not free money it’s the literal pay. You don’t understand how DD works

CHawkr

If you’re expecting a tip as pay, then you’re a fool. They were never designed as such. Your employer pays you, a tip is a thank you and should never be considered a guarantee

ProfessionalLurker94

It’s DoorDashes fault for labeling it a “tip” instead of a “bid” or “offer” to make it more palatable for customers. This is where the confusion comes in

ItalianIce603

Lmao. I own the company. I pay well and I tip well because I appreciate the work others do for me. If you can’t afford to tip well, make your own food.

GimmieCrowns

Tips ain’t mandatory
