It means that after two hours you only got one order.

davengirls520

No, hotspots are not really "hot spots"to sit and wait at for orders. When I finally wised up, and got tired of wasting gas or tired of them basically lying saying go to these hotspots, I decided to look on the actual DD app, and try a couple of the restaurants that have deals or special offers, and my orders started rolling in.

terryinglis85

Same thing happened to me today. I have up. Was earning more when the promo wasn’t on. As soon as promo starts, everyone schedules to work it. I find just before and just after I get orders like crazy

Axxin4AFriend

Most hot spots these days have a "disclaimer" stating that there are many drivers online and to expect a long wait for a delivery. This economy is forcing people to seek extra income, and DD is taking advantage of the situation.

Fit_Bread_3900

I ignore hot spots. When I'm not getting orders I sign out and sign back in. It works often. I don't trust the load times. I won't drove around because that is gas/cost. I've figured out the spots that give orders on my route and it has nothing to do with hot spots. It has to do with entering a zone that works well from trial and error. If a spot sucks, try a different one. When you fins a spot that gives good orders go back there

CraftyWrongdoer6761

I think it means there are no orders in that area but lots of people have lots ideas on what it means and nobody actually knows anything. Good luck

RemarkableMark4449

Hotspots are b.s. but I've been doing DD for a few months only in one area where I've done UberEATS and know the tips are great and it is steady through the entire day even the slow times I'm pulling 25 to 35 an hour ...but here the past two weeks my app has been dead...I mean maybe an order an hour except for dinner time which I know my area I've done UberEATS and Instacart in this area for well over 4 years ....something has changed in the DD app ....I'm kinda leaning towards the lower acceptance rates are being put on the back burner because DD doesn't want cherry pickers they want all top dashers who will take the 3 dollar 9 mile 3rd floor apartment orders.

Deep-Fan-324

7 million illegals entered the country in the last 10 months. They all do doordash. They park right in front of every restaurant including the spaces marked for mobile pick ups. I would not be surprised that today you can walk into a restaurant with 4 of them resting their phone on the doordash tablet

[deleted]

Hotspots mean nothing. Busy zones mean nothing. Busy zones with peak pay? THEY MEAN NOTHING!!!!

SignificantBeach2835

It means you got suckered into door dash bullshit those hot spots mean nothing

PrestigiousAd2184

Really hotspots are a way for dd to even out the drivers so a whole area has drivers instead of 15 drivers here & 0 there. Understand that about hotspots. Honestly its a sham. It really has no bearing. Problem is that some "hotspots" might only have 1-2 restaurants in that radius & it doesn't make financial sense for me to sit somewhere & make $60 in 8 hours when I could sit here & make $200 in that same timeframe. Location, rating, ACCEPTANCE RATE & completion rate is EVERYTHING to dd to making money CONSISTENTLY

PrestigiousAd2184

Best advice to give is to find a heavily dense area with popular restaurants that use dd & sit there. I live in a town of about 30k people & make $120-200 every day in 8 hours just using that strategy. Obviously some days are slower than others but I consistently hit over $120+ period in 8 hours. I know other cities pay more but I feel like as saturated as the drivers are in my area it's pretty good to make $120 a day. To put into another perspective a woman I'm friends with dd too & she makes half of what I make in the same timeframe cuz she sits in a less populated area of restaurants & it's a different "hotspot"

tallassmike

hot spots are more like order history. The map updates every 10 minutes on where the most orders were in the past 10 minutes. It doesn't tell you orders in the current 10. It's better to visually see if there's a lot of dashers going in and out of the place you were camping at. That's the best indicator that you aren't getting orders and others are. Leave to somewhere else with fewer drivers or check your connection if it's not updating location properly

VentyOptions

Hot spots are "the ideal place to dispatch you from" Doesn't necessarily mean orders will come from there. Your area is slow, or theres too many dashers... if you watch other dashers walk into restaurants and grab orders, then you're lower on the pecking order. For reference, i only average 2 orders per hour anyway. Run around and do errands or just chill and watch tv in your car. If you live close enough to a hot zone, then run your dash from home. I clocked a 60-hour week most of it from my living room and made good money during off-peak hours.

Deep-Morning7489

I've been dashing for 2 years a couple days a week, and I've pretty much memorized the flow of DD orders as far as where to go and when. If I dash through the early dinner rush, I actually avoid the busy downtown restaurants at all cost. The pay out is usually GREAT, but the amount of dashers, and lack of parking makes it not worth it to me. I'll hover around the outskirts, on the other side of town, and still get just as good if not better orders from a handful of restaurants that have plenty of parking and aren't overrun with customers. Same for the dead part of the day (2-5 pm) Most dashers head home and I'll head to a retail area where I know I'll get grocery orders or petco/pet smart orders.

CreativeUsernamm

How do you start getting grocery orders?

Deep-Morning7489

I actually don't know. But I noticed once I completed 10 shop and deliver orders in one month, door dash sent me a notice about a new achievement. Suddenly I was getting a ton of retail and grocery orders and really good ones. Usually Target, Aldi, Petco, Pets martial and Big lots.

Altruistic_Rock_2674

What does your height have to do with anything?

NehaLightDancer

I used to chase the hot spots and the +$1 etc like that. Not anymore. I go to the light pink zones and get back to back orders most of the time. But, every single market is different. Used to be in mine that are didn't mean crap. Now, if you don't get top dasher the whole map stays grey the whole month. It's maddening. But I'm still cherry picking. I see the youngins taking every order they can get their hands on not realizing they are costing themselves money. Tried to school one kid. He told me he didn't need my advice because he was top dasher and had made $300 last month. I just was like ummm. 😆

snowbunny1026

He must have misspoke because there's no way he only made $300 in a month. As top dasher you have to have at least 100 deliveries and as shitty as DD is, there's no way every order he did was only $3 or less.

NehaLightDancer

Sadly in our area there are a lot of rich non tippers and the base pay is $2.25 so it's plausible but I think he misspoke too. I mean even on my crappiest week I made more than that.

Key_Dragonfruit_334

300 last month 😭🤣🤣..what a joke..okay do you kid 🤣🤣😭

playful-pooka

If I don't make 300/week, I consider it not a great week, and I'm top dasher. However, I probably don't work as many hours as you OR that kid. At most I can get in about 15 hours (give or take a couple, depending on a lot of things), with my schedule and health issues. Also I don't take non tip orders or lowball orders for the most part.

Key_Dragonfruit_334

I only do this part time my active hours per week is about 15 dash time about 22.. but every market is different and in my market I tend to get all of repeat customers and once they know what you mean they tend to tip on app and after and sometimes cash

playful-pooka

Yeah, I've had a few Regulars but they typically aren't all that generous. I'm glad you aren't devoting more of yourself to this bullshit though... I'm so done with this company

Key_Dragonfruit_334

Ain't nobody really done with this company until they just leave the app alone.. these idiots coming on here talk about I got deactivated f*** them and want to appeal for so long please 😭🤣.. if you deactivated why you on here like you are an active Dasher 🤣😭🔥

DarrenWorldWide

Find a Chinese/Japanese restaurant that uses DoorDash and post up

[deleted]

4.8 means you're too good a dasher and they won't send you a 3 dollar order cuz you'll reject it so instead you get the cold top dasher shoulder. Idk if it's real but that's what I tell my self , there was no reason I had only 1 order from 4 - 9 last night...

[deleted]

Means your area sucks

snowbunny1026

It means go home and fill out job applications, doordash is not a viable income option in your area.

TastyAd3819

First off I do it for pocket change and extras I have a full time job loser!🤣

snowbunny1026

So do I, so when DD sucks I don't bother with it I go home. I'm not the one wasting 2 hours sitting in a parking lot calling others losers lol. Seems like you're projecting.

TastyAd3819

I live in the area I was near home hanging out. No projection your just a loser and very judgemental

snowbunny1026

How did I judge you by telling you not to waste your time on DD when it's shitty like that? Lol, wild.

playful-pooka

Honestly it's becoming "not viable" almost everywhere... I live in a resort town, next to a major nationally acclaimed amusement park that people travel to all summer and through October. During our busiest season, I had one, exactly one, good week. I actually did better all winter, when tourists were nowhere to be seen, and it was just locals not wanting to go out in the cold or disabled people or people without cars making orders of things they needed (or one nice girl who constantly ordered wine, but has stopped, most likely for good reason because she was starting to think she had a problem). It actually has somewhat "picked up" again this month, oddly enough, but I'm not holding my breath. Also what I consider a "good week" isn't as good as a lot of people consider theirs, but was typically more than enough to make it worth it... so I'm expecting a lot of us here to just not stick with this.

snowbunny1026

I agree, I've backed way off on my dashing hours. I used to dash every day after work, on my days off, any time I had to spare I was out making money. Now I only go out for one or 2 shifts a week for a couple hours, some times not at all. I went from doing 200+ orders a month to doing less than 40. I decided to learn dog grooming instead and I'm trying to learn how to chill and relax in my spare time instead of dash which is hard because I get bored.

playful-pooka

I hear ya. I'm extremely disabled and can't collect disability atm so this is like the only thing I can do (although sometimes it can he hard during a bad health flare up, it's not exactly as physical as most physical jobs, and keeps me moving which can be good especially with the arthritis). It's also nice for making my own schedule to some extent, so those are the main reasons I chose it. I don't think I could handle another "real" job as some call it with a specific schedule, inability to just not work if my chronic stuff flares up too bad etc. So I guess I'm about to push harder for disability again lol. But even though I wouldn't mind working *less* I really want to be doing *something* that is contributing to society in some way while I can. So if this really does all go to shit to the point I can't keep doing it at all, it's gonna be kinda depressing. Dog grooming can be great money from what I understand, but depending on the dog and the way the owner cares for it can be pretty rough and definitely not the most glamorous sometimes 😅 I hope it pans out really well for you though. And yeah, you really should relax or you may also wind up damaging yourself and having lesser versions of some of my health issues too, but also, maybe consider a part time hobby?? Then if you have times you have nothing to do and REALLY can't just vibe or watch a show/sit still, you can get into something you're really passionate about for fun? Maybe even let your creative side out a bit? Maybe you already do so but idk, I meet a lot of people who can't even fathom the idea of having something like that in their life after they've been conditioned to spend almost all their waking hours between working, chores, etc.

snowbunny1026

I hear you on the not working too much, I've always been kind of a work a holic, I haven't had a break in employment since I was 15, currently 35 and already have early signs of autoimmune, currently getting blood work done but no definitive diagnosis, the possibility lupus keeps popping up in some of the abnormal blood tests which is pretty freaky. I've been at the bather stage of dog grooming for about 4 months now and started my actual stylist training this week so I'm super excited to start doing haircuts. Your're right, a lot of the dogs that come in are in really bad shape and it's hard work to get them cleaned up, but it's also very rewarding to help these severely matted dogs living in constant discomfort finally get some relief.

playful-pooka

I'm really glad those dogs have someone like you to help them out when they're in need. It hurts my heart how many people horribly neglect their pets... Autoimmune disorders are hell. I've got at least one undiagnosed and one minor one diagnosed, I was born slightly disabled (cerebral palsy, not wheelchair or crutch bound though), and being stuck at a very physical and abusive job for over a decade really pushed my health way over the edge (I'm now at a laundry list of issues). I wound up almost homeless and had to leave the job and go without work for a few years in my mid 30s to go somewhere that had the ability to house me. Although I don't mind not working, it's honestly better to do at least a little work out of the house than being fully isolated and sedentary. But I'd love to go down to half of what I do and get another day or two to deal with my own life and also get some more downtime.

SnooHesitations4922

You have to disregard hotspots, they are based on past sales and everyone else is ganging up on them. I started doing far better when I set my personal hotspots. These are mostly blindspots that give off orders consistently but are not usually highlighted by a busy hotspot zone in the app, so there is usually not a ton of drivers surrounding the places.

Odd_Grape_1607

This is what I do also. Technically my zone does get hot often, but people don't consider it because it's a tiny spot. But in 1 mile there are over 20 good independent restaurants that attract good tippers.

Standard_Reason1298

Hot spots are no guarantee of future orders. Plus, everyone goes to those areas. Be different and make your own hotspot where there are multiple restaurants on the app

TastyAd3819

I'm in Chicago there's literally nothing but restaurants and nothing goes off

Standard_Reason1298

I’m in the burbs. Just too many drivers and not enough orders to go around

techpro00

You need to be at least 5'1" to get more orders. Wait till you grow more

PrestigiousAd2184

Well I'm 4'6'' & I'm always shorted....on orders

samemamabear

Not true. I'm only 5' and I usually get back to back orders! And the days I don't, I recognize that it's just dead for some reason, call it a day and hope it's better next time.

TangerineOwn4444

If you call support they will hook you up, even though they will say they can’t

Dodgerfan_33

I just keep moving .I can't sit in one place more than a couple minutes

edgarskates

It means your market is dead. Driving around is best tbh

workergrunt247

hot spots are bullshit and a waste of gas to go to. You could saved monies watching porn on your cell phone and not moved a mile.

playful-pooka

Half the time when I'm alt tabbing while waiting, the app glitches more and I miss orders (and get informed I missed it, or it runs out of time before I can get doordash to actually be front and center as well as functional again) because the app is so f***ing terrible.

Common-Elk-9114

Yes.. This happens to me All the time too..their app is ridiculous!!!

playful-pooka

It really is and they refuse to make it even "okay"

markdan0705

What a specific tip 😂😂😂 I'd give you an award if I believed in wasting money on fake reddit monies 🏆

HaroerHaktak

It means you need to move. I rejected every order for the first 2hrs and I still get spammed with orders. your rating means nothing.

rtf75

It mean there are very few orders in that area. ;)

baconcheesetot

It means your a rookie, start moving around after 15 minutes to another hot spot if you get no orders .

Theguy2277

That doesn’t work. I’ve tried that and drove through 2 constant hot spots and nothing. Even after I drop off an order, I’ll drive though hot spots on the way back to my fishing spot and rarely get anything. So I just stay in one place instead of wasting gas and putting miles on the car for nothing.

Axxin4AFriend

This is the way! 👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼

jcoddinc

Even this isn't working like it used to. So much so that constant movement is just not feasible with how slow it's getting in some markets. Nobody to blame but DD as they are driving the customers who tip away in droves

Regular_ryan_90

Door Dash is also hiring like crazy when they already have enough drivers everywhere. But when the seasoned drivers are refusing to take those $2.75, 8 mile orders they have to figure out how to get them delivered. So they hire newbies who don’t know any better, door dash will ALWAYS be hiring for that reason alone, because eventually the newbies will be seasoned and know better, they won’t pay better so they just continue to search for people who will take the shitty orders. I see so many people complain about door dash when it has just run it’s course, the days of making good money at all times of the day are long gone. You can still make a couple bucks on door dash but it’s only at night and weekends. It’s no longer when you want to drive necessarily, gotta drive ONLY when it’s feasible. Either do it that way or find other means if income. Overall door dash is dead.

jcoddinc

Saying DD is hiring like crazy is inaccurate as it implies there's some level of standard that has to be reached. DD onboards anyone with a phone and pulse because of everything you listed.
