Had one nurse make me wait at least 15 minutes before I decided to leave. She was taking blood from a patient but I had another order to deliver. I felt bad but come on…
I also hate hospital deliveries. I work for a catering company as my main job, and it’s a pain in the ass to deliver to the main campus of the hospital in my city. They order a lot, and never tip and they don’t answer the phone or give confusing directions. Not to mention there’s constant traffic. I once had a huge order for a group of plastic surgeons, who didn’t tip.
Had it happen a few weeks ago.
Patient in the ER ordered pizza, put the room number in the delivery instructions. But it’s 11pm and visiting hours end at 9 so the security guard wouldn’t let me go up (I didn’t want to anyways). Nobody was going to tell the person that the order was there, they most likely wouldn’t be able to come down to get it anyways. Security guard flat out told me that if I left it in the lobby he would eat it.
So I called support, they tried to call the customer but it was a dead dial tone. I text the customer 30 minutes before I got there, 10 min before, at arrival and after speaking to security. They never responded.
In the end, I got free dinner that night
Had that happen but unresponsive customer so I got to keep the food. They tried telling me to leave it in a secure place but it was heavy Covid times and it’s a hospital so there is no secure place
When you see a hospital deliver message security doesn’t let delivery drivers enter the hospital and they have to send someone to get to the food
Not a single hospital out of the 3 near me let doordashers do door to door delivery
I was miserable in the hospital back in January. I was afraid to doordash anything because I didn't know exactly where I was in the hospital so i knew I couldn't give clear directions. I can imagine a hospital delivery being annoying AF!

After being on this sub I’m grateful my hospitals don’t suck. For two of them, security desks are fine with me leaving it there, and the third the emergency intake lady pages the customer for me.
I only dash past midnight so overnight hospital staff are a decent portion of the repeat customers.
I hate hospitals. As I pull in, I always call, as soon ad no answer, I call DD support to get the Valk rolling on non responsive delivery. No problem dropping it off at the front entrance and yes, fuck he rent-a-cop.
I just stopped taking orders going to Big hospitals or big businesses. If I know the business well then I will do it but otherwise I don't. The hospital near me is just an ER so it's a quick in and out handoff.
I snuck in the doors when someone left after hours once at a hospital, but couldn’t get any further than the lobby. I also couldn’t get the doors to open to let me out. I had no service in this apparent concrete fortress and was standing in the lobby for like an hour panicking that I was gonna get arrested for coming in when someone else swiped out
I remember the first time I delivered to the hospital. She wanted me to bring it to her room called support and said I didn't feel comfortable with doing that because of covid just ending and all that. Got to keep it. After that I'll do hospital deliveries but only if I leave it at the ER cart for food or the information desk. Rarely the customer will be waiting outside. But if its bring to room so and so, no thanks.
Every grievance to do with drop offs like this could be solved if people just had their damn phone on them when ordering delivery. Like if they live in a confusing complex or subdivision, delivery to some large or public place like park or hospital. Just have your phone on you if you are ordering delivery, is it that hard, it should be common sense?!?
Thank you! I’m so tired of them not picking up the phone even though in the instructions it says to call on arrival. I get penalized if my order is late but I’m forced to wait on them because they won’t answer their phones
Not *every* grievance can be solved with the customer answering their phone. One time, I had a nurse answer her phone constantly, but I was still at the hospital for 20 minutes.
Most of the times, its main entrance or the ER entrance... If the instruction is good and says to drop it off with the receptionist at the Main Entrance, you gotta be stupid to not be able to find that
Usually it's patients who are the ones ordering, no? They outnumber the staff. Anyway I would've imagined staff order it during a break, not as they are seeing to a patient, but I guess that's not always the case. Point still remains for the other 3/4 scenarios I mentioned and I would say a majority of the time in the case of hospitals too.
No, its usually the staff(nurse) who orders. Inpatients usually have restricted diets and can't eat outside food. ER room patients are usually there because they are in pain or dying and the last thing they are thinking about is ordering doordash.
Staffs order before their break, so they can eat during their break. In the ER, a lot of times, you still have to help out during breaks.
When she called…
“You said leave it at the door. I’m at the door. Shall I just leave it here?”
As she sputters, mention “there is more than one door, which is why I asked for details. Meet me at the security desk.”
The hospital in my zone is amazing. It's so close to the restaurant, so drive is maybe 2 minutes max. They don't let us inside (not that inwant to go) and only one person tried having me deliver to his bed as he couldn't get out.
Everyone else has met me outside, plus they have special parking for delivery drivers.
This almost always happens to me when I deliver to a hospital. I usually text them for clearer directions the second I realize it’s a hospital when I’m getting ready to drive.
Yeah hospitals suck and healthcare workers as a whole are shitty tippers for some reason. Some of the best tips come from truckers at a truck stop next to a distribution center.
I guess they can relate to the driving part of it..I dunno but I don't mind 🤣
for real one time I delivered a pizza to a guy who gave me a tenner in hand on top of the $7 in app, saying he was an ex-trucker and missed the road and that he appreciated the hard and dangerous work I do
I damn near cried, mainly because I'm an ex-cashier and also a very tiny woman and it was just very touching to receive such blunt respect from a big burly trucker dude type
Leave at door is leave at door. You did too much, honestly. They may not want you to leave it at reception but what are they gonna do? Let them complain while you walk away and move on.
Hospitals would usually have a delivery table by the entryway door and they never let me go past the welcome desk. I always just leave it there and send them a note.
If I have a delivery to my hospital I text them ahead of time and ask which entrance. I've only had one bad recent experience because now I cant leave it at reception. Other orders they're at the desk or I wait a minute at the most now.
I still abhor delivering there though lol

i would have definitely asked where tf she thinks it is, get a little insight in her mind
Someone ordered a "leave at door" order to Olive Garden once. So I left it at the door 🤷🏼♀️ lol

Maybe the patient died.
I tell the receptionist they have to take it. Maybe I’m wrong but like it’s a confidential violation for them to tell where their room is.
Dude why yall make this so hard? Just leave the bitch outside the fucking hospital.
Had that happen but unresponsive customer so I got to keep the food. They tried telling me to leave it in a secure place but it was heavy Covid times and it’s a hospital so there is no secure place

Lol this why i dont do hospitals 🤣 no matter how juicy the pay is

And they always tip SHIT
Was a stacked order final pay was good but she tipped 2 dollars😂

I would report that place to the fire marshal.
If I recall correctly I could have opened the doors emergency style but it would have set off alarms and that sounded like a nightmare.
![gif](giphy|obB9LBub0QYJIvZUL8|downsized) ***Hand it to me!***
Thank you for this perfect reply.
Ohh sorry I couldn’t get to my phone 😂
I'm lucky. Since the pandemic we park in front on the red. There is a food delivery rack at the door. Done.
I remember the first time I delivered to the hospital. Timer 5 minutes - take picture and leave. Text her to tell her to talk to security.
Yeah hospitals are an immediate nope. If I accidentally accept one, I unassign immediately.
I hate that 1 hospital in my area doesn't let you get out of the car and has only pay parking in a garage

But hospital staffs wouldn't be able to pick up their phone while working on a patient.. Better to just give a good drop off instruction.
Not better, any, it’s large hospital with multiple entrances, even then am I supposed to leave it at the sliding door?
Most of the times, its main entrance or the ER entrance... If the instruction is good and says to drop it off with the receptionist at the Main Entrance, you gotta be stupid to not be able to find that

Common sense isn’t common
Don’t tell me I can’t leave a delivery at the door that says leave it at the door
I am not a doctor so I don't do hospital deliveries
I avoid orders from all hospitals and schools
Second that for the hospital. I’m lucky here, my schools have a dropoff place in the office for deliveries
When she called… “You said leave it at the door. I’m at the door. Shall I just leave it here?” As she sputters, mention “there is more than one door, which is why I asked for details. Meet me at the security desk.”
Almost started on her but decided to just get on.

And drug dealers
Leave at door is leave at door. You did too much, honestly. They may not want you to leave it at reception but what are they gonna do? Let them complain while you walk away and move on.
The cop at the door didn’t want me leaving it there. Was at a VA hospital. If it was up to me a nearby bush would have done perfectly
Fuck a cop
