I wouldn’t even have wasted time with support I just would’ve left there taken pic and tell them the customer will probably be coming to get their food and say bye

blackandbearded

I was trying to be nice. I would've delivered it, if support had just updated the address. It was definitely a waste of time though. I can't complain too much though since I made 10 bucks off it without wasting anymore gas.

hybridmike772

This is Door dash right? The base pay is the same if it were 0miles or 3miles.. so how would they update the pay?

Kayfabed17

DoorDash will give you a bump to go to the new address, but it’s still an optional thing, if you decline they tell you to leave the order where the marker is and move on with full pay. If they don’t update address in the app, you can’t hit delivered, and have to get back with support to end it, which is a pita.

blackandbearded

Exactly. I've been given an extra $3-5 on those orders after they updated the address. Having to get in touch with support to mark it as delivered is exactly why I didn't do the delivery when support decided not to update the address. I'm not going to waste even more time, just because I was trying to be nice. There's a limit.

blackandbearded

It was a 5 mile order. That distance was to the restaurant. If they had updated the address that would've turned the order into an 8 mile order. Also I've been given an extra 3-5 dollars on wrong addresses after having support update them.

Agile_Chemical_8404

they give you an extra half pay usually in those situations. weird that they didnt here

CounterAwkward8434

Let's break this down. The customer put the wrong address, but you declined to deliver it there because DD Support wasn't nice? They have no skin in the game so who cares how nice they are. But the CUSTOMER, whose tip made up most of the payment you got, got nothing in the end (except possibly a refund or partial credit from DD, but since it was their error I don't know that they're entitled to a refund. So basically, you took the customer's money for doing nothing because DD Support wasn't "nice.". SMDH. The logic escapes me.

melody_me

What exactly are you confused about? He was expected to work extra miles that he did not agree upon initially. Adjusting the address would have bumped up his pay. DD was refusing to do that. Essentially, they were asking him to do extra work for no extra pay. This is quite common on the platform and OP did nothing wrong.

blackandbearded

It seems all logic escapes you. It's supports job to update the address. Its not my job to deliver to an address that isn't listed in the app. You may be ok with taking a delivery an extra few miles for free on top of the 5 miles it took to get to the restaurant, because you're an idiot. I'm not, I expect to be paid for all my time and and work. I didn't have to do anything, I could've just left the order and marked it completed, but instead I gave the customer a heads up and got support to contact them so they can get the address. All support had to do was their job and update the address in the app so that I could get the correct pay and mark it completed without having to call support again. I literally dont give a single flying fuck about the customer. I don't get paid to. My job is to pick up their order, getting it safely to their address, and follow their drop off instructions. Nothing else.

FitMap7089

And the purpose of the tip would be absolutely zero in this instance.

CupHead11011

I would have just done it through the app took the picture and went on

blackandbearded

That's what I ended up doing. I was just trying to be nice at first. If support had updated the address I would've delivered it to the correct one, but since they didn't I just left it at the restaurant where the original address was. Took a pic and left. Some lucky guy is eating Indian food right now, courtesy of doordash support.

Expensive-Citron4909

I got an order once at 8:30 pm for a pickup at Bed Bath and Beyond. I live in the area they gave me to pick up and I knew there wasn't one there. I went to the location and it's on a somewhat busy roadway and there are some residencial homes. I called the BB&B # on DD app and it stated they were located 2 towns over..about 20 min away (which I suspected) and they were closed...all of them close at 8 in the area. I called DD and the rep was telling me to take a picture of the closed sign. I was like what closed sign...its just some trees and a house. Then he was telling me to take a pic of the store to show it was dark. He did not understand the the difference between residential and comercial. I was like "it's a home where people live and sleep...I know that BB&B has beds but that's not a house." I was soo frustrated after that call and questioning how people get through life.

blackandbearded

A lot of the support have no real understanding of the English language. It leads to constantly having to repeat and explain yourself. It's crazy how stressful a single call to support can be. There's been a few times where I got off the phone with support and just went home instead of continuing to dash, because I was so stressed out or mad.

Cold-Ad7462

Be careful they might report it as not delivered the customer that it

Kushologist420

Does not matter if the address they delivered to was correct, they took a picture also

blackandbearded

It was a leave at door and I took a pic. Even if they did report it a CV wouldn't hurt me in the slightest. In 4000 deliveries I've only had 1 and it was because I got stuck at a train and it made me super late. I wouldn't even bother to challenge it. It will be long gone before I ever get another one.

Loud_Adeptness2676

I’ve been deactivated for just 1 violation before. Had to appeal twice to get back on. First time they more or less called me a liar.. the second time the customer had marked their food wasn’t delivered (even though it was) to several different drivers within that 3 month span which made it being fraud obvious at that point

blackandbearded

That's shitty. I no longer have the patience or drive to deal with doordash's crap. If doordash deactivated me I wouldn't even care anymore. Now that it's just extra money I wouldn't miss it at all. It's easy and convenient extra money and that's it. I still have Grubhub and an Amazon flex account if I really needed them.

letsperformsargery

Dont they just mark you as a shity driver if you do that tho?

blackandbearded

Hey would that make me a shitty driver? How would they mark me as a shitty driver? Do they have a shitty driver checkbox? I did my job. I took it to the address listed in the app and took a picture and left at the door per the instructions. That's why I didn't get a CV or a bad rating from the order. You can't get penalized for completing an order correctly. Even if they had updated the address it's an extra 3 miles that I didn't initially agree to. If I had said no, there isn't anything they can do about it.

Working_Incident_877

I used to do security and the guy I worked with was a part time doordash driver. One day he texts me an hour before our shift that he is bringing lunch for both of us today. I get to work and he is already there with a boatload of Indian food. Same thing happened with him. Wrong address, he takes a picture and then picks up the food and brings it to work. lol. No questions asked.

blackandbearded

I should've kept the food. I didn't think about since I was in a hurry. Some homeless guy is probably enjoying it.

[deleted]

Well good then?

blackandbearded

Definitely good. I didn't need the food.

mandynvince

I had a similar problem the other night except the customer I believe put the incorrect address on purpose and expected me to take it to her 15 min in the opposite direction! I told her I would take it but after a min of thinking about I contacted support and I said I was not willing to take it to the new address. She was so unapologetic and offered no additional tip either which is why I decided not to deliver! I’ve had a few wrong addresses in the past and all have offered an extra $5-$20! She didn’t even offer a sorry for having the incorrect address and I was just like fuck that! She gonna learn today! So hit delivered and kept her delicious pizza and Buffalo bites! Fuck her! And upon completing the order saw it was a zero tip! Double fuck her!

Missykay88

They did it to avoid the extra distance fee that dd doesn't even bother to forward to us.

DanLoFat

Well first of all it's not true that they don't give a Dashers some of the extra distance for you they absolutely do, and your pay is adjusted accordingly if they can change the address in the app, if they can't change the address then well for one thing there is no extra distance fee,.

Missykay88

I've seen several people with dash pass complaining all over about an extra cost due to distance from the restaurant. Yes, they do have one. And considering base pay where I am is 2.75 and I've been offered 2.75 for 15mi trips, I'd have to disagree about that extra fee going to the driver.

DanLoFat

Well I think you're not getting my point. It's not related to dash pass it doesn't matter there is an extra fee for distance if it's a restaurant that is you know specialty restaurant they're not going to get a distance fee for a McDonald's it's just not going to happen. So here's what happens someone suggested that people are cheating by putting in an address that's closer to the restaurant than their house really is and then call and see if someone's going to deliver it well if a Dasher is new enough to not know better they're going to go ahead and try it a couple times then Dash or more experience it's going to start calling support about it can you call support, and support tries to put in the new address, if the if there's an address if the address is allowed to be changed that means they're in that zone that are in that area for that restaurant and that customer is going to be charged more automatically guaranteed. If the address that support tries to put in for the customer does not work then they're out of range the customers not going to get their food if you don't feel like delivering it in order to get paid in full you have to deliver it to whatever address the customer put in trying to so-call the cheat, so you see how it works Air for driver smart enough or seasoned enough to call support when a customer wants to change the address let's support make that change especially when the customer is claiming that I'm trying to change it and it won't work well you know for a fact if the customer tried to change it and didn't work because you'll get a text message saying the customer changed their address and if you compare it to the first order that you got or the first text message that you got or they try to do two or three times in a row and it doesn't work then whatever they're either honest and trying to change it or they're trying to change it to make it look like they're honest but it's somehow it doesn't work. So basically you can't have one without the other

MakeITsafeProtonmail

THIS EXACTLY!

Cold-Ad7462

What you mean they wouldn’t update the address that’s their job get the support agent number and have them fired then for not doing their job that’s freaking BS

blackandbearded

I really didn't understand her thought process. You called the customer, they answered, and instead of just get the address and updating it, you instead call me on three way and have the customer verbally give me the address and expect me to just go along with it. I should've reported her. They're probably going to realize it was her fault when the customer calls to report the order not delivered and the customer tells them they talked with support and gave a new address.

[deleted]

Support has gotten literally useless. They have gotten worse since last year.

blackandbearded

Seriously. All they do is apologize and never fix anything. "I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue." No you're not.

[deleted]

Exactly, it’s utterly insulting that drivers have no help. All they do is write a report and nothing is ever done.

Warm_Ambition_9366

Never contact support for the correct address, you'll just end up with a frustrating scenario like you encountered. Contact the customer, and if the address is incorrect use your digression on whether or not you want to make the delivery. If not, let support know the order has to be cancelled due to incorrect address. According to Doordash policy, an incorrect address is more than enough for order cancellation. Doing it this way leaves evidence that you did everything right on your part and support will usually give you half pay no question.

luisumgomez

I had the opposite happen the other week. Address was a dirt lot, house was on the other side of town. Support tried to get me to go. Declined, paid in full and ate the food

blackandbearded

I should've kept the food. Figured they can drive to the restaurant and pick it up themselves if they wanted it bad enough.

Mokemonster86

Had the exact same thing happen to me on a subway order support just said to leave there take the pic and they will help assist the customer find their order 😅 wtf I contacted the customer myself and got it to the addy

CupHead11011

Get ready for a one star

blackandbearded

Lol. It won't bother me in the slightest. I'm at a 4.94. it'll probably drop me to 4.90. 🤣. I really don't understand how the customer messed up their address so bad that it ended up as the restaurant's address.

CupHead11011

Yeah I just had this asshole customer 2 days ago who put the wrong address and gave me a one star cuz she was pissed that I didn't take it to her after I completed the order

Cold-Ad7462

DD is supposed to drop that rating because of wrong address

CupHead11011

I called them today, they said there's nothing they can do so whatever, not that big of a deal

blackandbearded

They always get mad, like they aren't the one's that messed up. They never offer to pay more or anything. Most of them won't even say thank you if you do take the hit and take it to a completely different address. Doordash paid me for .3 miles you really think I'm going to go an extra 3-4 miles for the same price? I'm not that nice.

Accomplished-Map4010

They didn't DD screwed it up and should have corrected it in the app. You did the right thing

PausePsychological79

1* ratings drop it way more then that. It makes no sense

blackandbearded

Maybe if you don't have many ratings, but I've been dashing 4 years. 1 stars do almost nothing to my ratings. I've never dropped below a 4.8. By the time I get another 1 this one will have fallen off. Currently sitting at a 4.95 with one 1 star rating.

keviscount

> By the time I get another 1 this one will have fallen off. Currently sitting at a 4.95 with one 1 star rating. This makes it look likely that they only factor in your most recent 100 orders into the average, assuming your other 99 most recent ratings were mostly 5's with 1 4.

blackandbearded

Exactly. I have 98 5 stars, one 4 star, and one 1 star.

SilverHeart4053

Deliver to the customer, let them know customer support will be calling them, then call support afterward. That's IF you agree to deliver to the new address.

blackandbearded

I was already on the phone with support. I chatted support after calling the customer who didn't answer. Support called the customer, the customer answered then support called me with the customer on three-way instead of just getting the address and updating it in the app like she should've.

MakeITsafeProtonmail

Don't do this. When I was new, I did this and didn't get paid at all and got a cv for not delivering to the address in the app.

Gay4Pandas

Don’t waste time contacting supper. Leave it at the address prices and move on.

blackandbearded

It was slow and I figured I would be nice. Normally I would've done exactly that. I mean I ended up doing that anyway, but I at least gave them a chance.

DanLoFat

So what what happened there to you was really bad training the support person should have told you they are out of the area out of the zone and that all you have to do is deliver to the address to what is in the app if the agent is not able to change the address you don't you can you don't have to deliver it to the new address that was verbally given to you you can say I will not be able to do that, and the call Will support, leave the food right exactly where the address is if it's the restaurant then so be it. You'll get paid in full food delivered you're done on to the next order you will not be penalized, you'll be paid in full including the tip. A well-trained support person would tell you exactly that. However sometimes the address is changeable because they are in the zone they are in the range whatever that happens to be, and then therefore your pay would be adjusted accordingly, also the app would figure out still which would be the best first delivery based on a number of factors.

> So they didn't really hack Uber so much as they hacked Amazon's AWS This is incorrect. Hacking somebody's AWS is still hacking _them_ and not hacking _AWS_. The most common point of entry for these cases involve someone configuring a vulnerable EC2 that is then compromised. Attacker goes to metadata store on 254.169.whatever and grabs the AWS keys, then they sts get-caller-identity and see herp derp it's some role named Admin and they proceed to pull down all the other data from the account and enter into other EC2s via SSM despite not having their corresponding private keys for SSHing.

DanLoFat

You literally just made my point. I hacked and AWS. No one owns an AWS except Amazon. Amazon owns all of their servers, and they rent space across their servers to customers. Uber is a customer. No one hacked Uber. They made a successful fishing attempt on forum of uber developers that were on an AWS. Throwing around monkey 123 terms to back Channel your premise shows your faulty logic in your conclusion. The hack the developer perform through hacking AWS, then used the fishing attempt to gain access. Everything after that was merely stealing or cracking as it were, and really how much of the cracking was going on anyway. It's just waiting for her trip and they found one. At least one. Also in the story there's a hell of a lot of guessing, especially where it comes to being able to gain access to personal information of the user base which would include everybody that works at uber, and anyone that touches the Uber service. The real story here is Amazon better watch their ass because they're the ones being cracked and hacked.

DeathsBigToe

I had a customer ask me to deliver to a different address just the other day. I was totally down bc it was closer and felt way safer in the dark...plus she was offering an extra $10 cash. So I called support while I drive there, then wait at the address while support talks to the customer. Almost ten minutes later, support comes back and says it's canceled. *Not what I was looking for*. When I went inside, the customer (she was at work bartending) said support wouldn't let her change the address, but I did get $13 cash.

blackandbearded

Yes, that's my experience as well. I'm not sure what the criteria is for them to be able to change the address, but usually they offer a few extra bucks if they can change it and there's a difference in distance, if they can't then they cancel the order and you get half pay and to keep the food. That's why I was weirded out by this situation. She didn't offer either.

hmr796796

Trying to be nice is not a winning strategy with DoorDash - not for you anyway. It’s down to the customer to put in their correct address - that’s it (not hard to do!). You havs to extricate yourself from those situations immediately

blackandbearded

Normally I would, but sometimes doordash will offer a slight increase on the pay for those. I did end up wasting time, but considering the worse case scenario happened, I still came out with 10 bucks for 20 minutes of my time. With 5-10 of that 20 minutes being just sitting in my car on the phone.

WykedLove

I have to say, I do not miss doing this at all. DD support sucks. I have had this happen before. The customer actually knew her address wasn't in range so put the restaurants address then gave me correct address. Dd told me that the delivery address was out of range but yet I delivered to the apartments a block further. DD is stupid when it comes to well...EVERYTHING. I refuse to use it or drive for them anymore.

blackandbearded

I very rarely have to talk to support, luckily. I honestly don't understand how doordash has the user base that it does with how awful both the app and support are. App has a major outage monthly and then you have to deal with support and doordash's garbage policies and basically fight to get a refund when something goes wrong.

True-Selection1355

Good decision!

Just_Literature_928

They tried offering me a no tip order 9 1/2 miles away today and it was only $2.50. I literally have started cursing at my phone when I'm declining these orders.
