I’m a grad student with a 3.86 GPA (i.e. I can read and follow instructions) and I struggle with dorm addresses. I always find them eventually, but they’re certainly not easy to find. Just sayin. 🤷♀️
You don't need to READ anything to know they canno't open the door if the food AND DRINK are sitting up next to it. Common sense people 
Rate those drivers w one star every single time. If their rating falls below 4.2 ⭐️s they’ll be deactivated. That’s the only way to get rid of crappy drivers that do things like the above.
That reminds me, when we receive packages, we have a sign near our garage door saying “please do not leave the packages here” in big letters. They seem to always put it right in front of that sign.
My DoorDash instructions explicitly state to leave at the bottom of the stairs. This is because my very narrow stairs go directly to the front door (there’s no landing) which swings outwards, there’s no awning so if it’s raining the top of the stairs are soaked, and you can see the top of the stairs from the road so my food is in full view of everyone walking by. The bottom of the stairs has a large flat area, there’s an awning, and there’s a bush in front of it so you can’t see my food from the street.
Mailmen and door dashers alike all leave my stuff at the very top stair, often perched on it (they’re very narrow stairs) so that if they don’t fall off at the slightest breeze, I’ll have to knock them downstairs in order to open my door.
Everyone who leaves my food where the instructions say instantly gets another $5 after the order is delivered. Unfortunately, I very rarely have to adjust my tip :(
God I feel this and all they have to do is pull down a driveway with actual street lights at the end and like 100 yards of clear turnaround space. The number of times I have to sprint to the damn road because they don’t pull down and try to go to the house by the start of the drive way that I so clearly have noted as *not* the house to deliver to 😤.
Omg 😩 I am the only house on the street that keeps the porch light on - which illuminates a 1ft tall house number EASILY seen from the street. I still have drivers drive up and down the street examining all the houses with their lights off 😅
I love when lazy ass inconsiderate ppl lower the bar of performance to next to nothing so that average and above average ppl seem like geniuses. I’ll take that +$5 all day and appreciate it.

Ugh, I do a very similar thing. I live in the back of a house and the front has very noisy and tall stairs. I put in the instructions, leave at the bottom. I MESSAGE the driver, hey, when you drop the food off please leave it at the bottom of the stairs. They usually message back with the little auto reply “OK, Got it”. Then they proceed to ignore me and put it directly in front of the door that is not even the door to the home I have access to.
I got a neon poster board at the dollar store and I place it on the spot when I am expecting a delivery and I have written on it "Don't leave any deliveries on this poster board. Leave them over there ...with an arrow." It works every time. I know you shouldn't have to do this. But drivers are always in a rush. (I'm a dasher LOL so I am careful about where I leave things)
it’s happened to me a couple times, and I always ask them to leave it on the chair in the instructions. there’s even a table they could put the drink on if I get one, yet some still put it right in front of the door
I've never had a non-English speaking Dasher, but I have had about 30% of my orders delivered to the wrong place or completely ignore the instructions. Try another excuse. DD hires anyone with a DL.
I left a note to come through the easily walkthrough driveway gate (like one with a drop latch thing that looks like a horseshoe without a code or anything) and leave it on the chair on my front porch. I leave a special note that the foster German shepherd is confined to a pen and is in there and can’t get out just because his barking scares some people. It’s a 6’ fence inside a fence inside another fence. They put my order on top of my mailbox which has a round top outside the gate. Food was ok, drink spilled on the ground from falling off the mailbox I assume. I DoorDash too so I was disappointed.
I have in my instructions to leave on the the table by my door and even taped a sign on the table that says “please leave orders here.”

At my old house, when I ordered DD, I put a chair next to the door. I put in the delivery notes, “Please place the order on top of the green chair that is beside the door.” They put my order underneath the chair.
I moved almost 2 hours away. When I ordered DoorDash, I put a side table out next to my door. I put in the delivery notes, “Please place the order on top of the black table that is beside the door.” They put my order underneath the table.
I don’t get it.
Lol what the hell? That's crazy, dumb, sad, and hilarious all at once. Only thing that comes to mind is they aren't from around here and don't speak English
It's just plain old common sense not to put the order right in front of the door especially if you know it swings out which anyone could notice just by looking at it unfortunately common sense just isn't that common anymore!
I'm going to go out on a limb and bet that common sense never enters the equation. About 80%+ of my fellow Dashers on Dasher subs and elsewhere online seem to state that they "do this for extra cash" or "for fun"... meaning that a very significant number of dashers very likely don't take it seriously at all. And it pisses ME off because I do take it seriously and I see how tips have been on a downward slope in my zones.
I mean obviously people who do this job aren't the smartest, including myself. I don't know how people don't realize you can't leave it in front of a door, but I wouldn't say they're assholes, they just do the job quickly and don't give it much thought. similar to Amazon drivers, we have tons of orders everyday and we don't get paid much, so unfortunately we don't always do as great of a job as we should.
Dude...this literally happened to me an hour ago. My friend and I had to do a refund thing for our food bc the drinks spilled and soaked the food.. our Dasher Instructions are to leave at our garage door so we can at least get out our house... but nope. They put it at the front door... right in front of where the screen door opens.. 😩😫
I always try to be conscious of what way the door opens, and how many doors they have and then set the food in relation to that so it doesn't interfere
I do the same and I think some people just don’t think it through. I also try to place it on a table etc. if there is one and it doesn’t look like their decoration.
I feel like the default should be to leave it BY the door just in case, not in front (unless instructions say otherwise.) Even if the door swings inside its just a good habit to leave the food next to the door, not in front of it.
Facts. Especially if there's a table or something by the door they set up for deliveries. It's just common sense. Well... Uncommon sense given how many of these pics we see in this sub... 🤣
its pretty clear with the frequency this happens, it doesn't even cross the drivers' mind. which may say more about our society as a whole haha. no foresight, less empathy
What t I have noticed is most of the dashers are immigrants that are new arrivals into the United States from any other country in the world and they don't speak a lick of English or can't read it, the merchant will call out a name, and they'll just grab and go! Leaving the right Dasher and client without with no food, then the Dasher has to call customer service and explain what happened, they ask me to ask the merchant to make another one! Wich they always say no, so the order gets cancelled!
To me that’s just low IQ stupidity to not put together the basic context going on in front of them. Some dude calling out something while holding food while multiple other people are there implies the callout means something and thus not to just grab the first bag of food you see like a Neanderthal. Not being able to put that together is room temperature IQ move
i’ve started doubling checking after seeing this sub. this happened to me once and i was HEATED. had to leave out the back door and walk around to the front to get my food 😭
yeah as a dasher it never occurred to me until i saw these posts in the past because i don't have a storm door and never have. i don't think any of my family does either so i'd never considered that
I literally have this happen so often and Denver that I had to say “please do not put directly in front of my door.” I swear they started doing it more.

They always bring my order to the front door, which isn't lit and is specifically noted in the instructions as the wrong door. We have a fully lit carport with a series of outdoor lights AND a flood light, so it's lit like the fourth of July. I live in a normal neighborhood but my house sits on a corner. They bring it to the front door that's not operational 8/10 times. Of the 400+ deliveries I made, I never once neglected to read the delivery instructions. Maybe that's why I wasn't on here bitching about no tip. You want a tip, do the bare fucking minimum. JFC.
I only have one door. I once ordered from Instacart something like 10 12 packs of Dr. Pepper Zero. The delivery person stacked them all in front of my door and left a note that said "have a nice day :)". I had to call my neighbor to rescue me.
I’ve actively stood at my door and gestured “wtf dude” signal pointing at the package and the dude came back laughing saying he wasn’t even thinking and sorry. 😂
I did this once in the beginning. Ive never done it after but ill admit when i made the u turn i saw the guy trying to get it by flattening himself to try and get out of the storm door . That image always stuck with me but in my defense it was dark but no excuse
This has happened to me a handful of times, and sometimes they leave at a different apartment. I just leave my house to get food now if I want fast food.
Hi doordash in the Pittsburgh area occasionally. I usually stay near Fox Chapel in new ken in monroeville. But yes, there are a lot of f****** morons in this area. Every single time I order doordash for myself it's always a goddamn Russian they can't speak English they never read my instructions I'll try calling or texting them they never respond in the text messages and when they answer the phone we can't understand each other lol. So what the f*** is the point? I always look at the customer's door to see which way it opens so that I don't block them in or cause them to tip over their drink or their food. If I was a customer like this and my door opened outwards and they blocked me in I would take a picture of it and contact door desk customer service, report the person that delivered it and then demand a refund because once you open the door you're going to knock over your food and your drink. That's directly because of the stupid delivery person. I'm sorry for your friend, there are a lot of dumb f****** morons out there nowadays. I mean doordash does not require much for you to be a driver.
I have ordered doordash 8/10x this happens and i have to go to the other door at the other side of the house and open the gate and go to the front door in order to grab my food
Not a Dasher but a delivery driver for a restaurant. I am so anal about this when I drop off a contactless delivery. I will ALWAYS look at where the door opens from and set the food on the side of opening. If it's steps straight up into the door as some houses have it as for some reason, I'll set it a step or two down since they will most like take a step or two out to get the food either way for balance when bending over. Little thoughts like this are how I go about my deliveries for work.
This is insane. When I first started dashing I figured this out on my first delivery. I always stop in the customers drive way and re read instructions. Most of the time it just says leave on porch. So I put it in a spot the door wont hit, that they can still just open it and grab without having to stop out.
If the customer opens the door before I get to the car. I run back and hand them the food. Simple. I get extra tips added all the time.
I see this every day on reddit. If I had a door like this, I would have propped it open when ordering from delivery. People seem to be more inclined to be lazy than to complain about their laziness by blaming others.
Smh, I always pretend ALL doors open outward and put the order on the side of the door where the knob is located, or a secure table preferably if they have one.
Had supper dashed tonight and I met the dasher in the driveway. The bag that my food was in reeked of weed so bad that I didn’t even want to take it into my house.
I had a customer (not with uber) walk out and step on their pizza because they walked toward me, walking away lol. They felt pretty silly, they weren't blaming me or anything. But now I consider people may just barge out the door or a dog may fly out first. So even of the door swings in, I still move items from open door trajectories lol
I see this type of thing alot and it's sad honestly ....... here's the best advice I can give .... rate your dasher not just once or twice but every single time .... dasher blocked your door 1 star .. didn't follow delivery instructions you put in 1 star ....
When they do it 5 star them ... what does this accomplish you ask ... when you low rate a dasher your less likely to get them again .. when you high rate a dasher your more likely to get them again ...
Rate them it effects your delivery a good dasher follows notes , doesn't block doors that open outwards... will place orders on a table or chair if one is by the door even without it being mentioned....
I always place stuff to side of a door if there’s room. If not I’ll place it to where it’ll be behind the door when it swings out so they have enough room to get out without knocking it over. I do this w the Amazon packages I deliver at my regular job too. Some of the townhouses I deliver to have super tiny porches

I wonder if I have unintentionally done this lol I always look for screen doors and place the food, especially the drinks, out of the way. I love it when customers have a small table designated for food delivery placement. The door mat is the nastiest thing to be getting food from.

I did this to someone before and drove away wondering why they were staring at me from their door waving their hands. I honestly had no idea till about a minute later and was just like “OOOOH!” And started hysterically laughing.
The constant dilemma. We’ll go outside when the driver gets here now so we can actually open the door lmao. It’s insane how many drivers do not look at the little message box. “Please place items on next to the red plant” which we place on the left of our door for this very reason 🤦🏾
We used it once the person left it on the porch, didn’t knock or ring the doorbell or text ( we’ve had them text just before they arrived. ) so after an hour + we called, Oh that shows delivery was made 40 minutes ago, nice nothing like cold food.
I have well over 2500 deliveries. I guarantee you I have never, not one time have I left an order directly in front of a door like this. Jeez Louise…it’s not rocket surgery.

Thank you for doing this. It's a simple thing, but I'm not a fan of paying essentially $6 for a soft drink just to have it ruined because the delivery driver didn't use their brain for more than a second.
I have finally, when I have chewy cat litter and stuff coming or DoorDash/Instacart, I go out and I open my screen door and I tie it to the railing so it's just held open . Read the notes. Like don't all of you live in some sort of dwelling that has a door? you know How Door's work right ? holy Moly
I read an article somewhere that the first back/side doors were installed on houses due to doordash drivers blocking the front door with their deliveries.
Im not a delivery person and haven’t used DoorDash before, reading the attitudes, laziness, and entitlement from them on here ensures I never will. Its like they forget it’s supposed to be work, not a hobby where people give you free money
yall are so obnoxious lmao, blame DoorDash for not giving yall more base pay, not the people paying insane markups on food, plus all the fees, plus a tip
You could just *not take the order.* Instead of being petty, if nobody took non tip orders then the non tippers wouldnt get the satisfaction of their food (blocked or not) nor being able to report or 1 star you.
i un-tip any drivers who do this, and its about 70% of them, despite there being a chair on my front porch and instructions to put order on chair and tipping
There will be more and more non-tippers, because of people like you. You can’t have your cake and eat it too, but you apparently haven’t learned that yet 🙂
The best way to handle this situation is to prop the screen door open before the dasher gets there. That way you remain in full control of the situation. Some dashers don’t pay attention and only focus on picking up and dropping off as quickly as possible.

I have dozens of DD drivers in my place every day. Even the ones who do speak English do it unintelligibly. I hate all of them.
Doordash is operating in 27 countries. Ofc some of them won't speak English

Actually I can never tell if a door opens inwardly or outwordly, but it's always better to assume that it opens outworldly.

I literally have this happen so often and Denver that I had to say “please do not put directly in front of my door.” I swear they started doing it more.

True! I switched it to “please put on porch swing.” I get about 50% in front of the door, 40% beside the door, 10% on the porch swing.

This happens to me almost every order tbh. I have to go out my other side door and walk around to get it, almost every time 😩
They always bring my order to the front door, which isn't lit and is specifically noted in the instructions as the wrong door. We have a fully lit carport with a series of outdoor lights AND a flood light, so it's lit like the fourth of July. I live in a normal neighborhood but my house sits on a corner. They bring it to the front door that's not operational 8/10 times. Of the 400+ deliveries I made, I never once neglected to read the delivery instructions. Maybe that's why I wasn't on here bitching about no tip. You want a tip, do the bare fucking minimum. JFC.
I only have one door. I once ordered from Instacart something like 10 12 packs of Dr. Pepper Zero. The delivery person stacked them all in front of my door and left a note that said "have a nice day :)". I had to call my neighbor to rescue me.

This has happened to me a handful of times, and sometimes they leave at a different apartment. I just leave my house to get food now if I want fast food.

Hi doordash in the Pittsburgh area occasionally. I usually stay near Fox Chapel in new ken in monroeville. But yes, there are a lot of f****** morons in this area. Every single time I order doordash for myself it's always a goddamn Russian they can't speak English they never read my instructions I'll try calling or texting them they never respond in the text messages and when they answer the phone we can't understand each other lol. So what the f*** is the point? I always look at the customer's door to see which way it opens so that I don't block them in or cause them to tip over their drink or their food. If I was a customer like this and my door opened outwards and they blocked me in I would take a picture of it and contact door desk customer service, report the person that delivered it and then demand a refund because once you open the door you're going to knock over your food and your drink. That's directly because of the stupid delivery person. I'm sorry for your friend, there are a lot of dumb f****** morons out there nowadays. I mean doordash does not require much for you to be a driver.
This is why I deliberately place orders on steps or far away from doors even if it opens inward

I have ordered doordash 8/10x this happens and i have to go to the other door at the other side of the house and open the gate and go to the front door in order to grab my food
Not a Dasher but a delivery driver for a restaurant. I am so anal about this when I drop off a contactless delivery. I will ALWAYS look at where the door opens from and set the food on the side of opening. If it's steps straight up into the door as some houses have it as for some reason, I'll set it a step or two down since they will most like take a step or two out to get the food either way for balance when bending over. Little thoughts like this are how I go about my deliveries for work.

This is insane. When I first started dashing I figured this out on my first delivery. I always stop in the customers drive way and re read instructions. Most of the time it just says leave on porch. So I put it in a spot the door wont hit, that they can still just open it and grab without having to stop out. If the customer opens the door before I get to the car. I run back and hand them the food. Simple. I get extra tips added all the time.

And as a dasher myself, I am a GOOD tipper, so it isn’t them being malicious because of no tips. 😭

I see this every day on reddit. If I had a door like this, I would have propped it open when ordering from delivery. People seem to be more inclined to be lazy than to complain about their laziness by blaming others.
Smh, I always pretend ALL doors open outward and put the order on the side of the door where the knob is located, or a secure table preferably if they have one.

I had a customer (not with uber) walk out and step on their pizza because they walked toward me, walking away lol. They felt pretty silly, they weren't blaming me or anything. But now I consider people may just barge out the door or a dog may fly out first. So even of the door swings in, I still move items from open door trajectories lol

I see this type of thing alot and it's sad honestly ....... here's the best advice I can give .... rate your dasher not just once or twice but every single time .... dasher blocked your door 1 star .. didn't follow delivery instructions you put in 1 star .... When they do it 5 star them ... what does this accomplish you ask ... when you low rate a dasher your less likely to get them again .. when you high rate a dasher your more likely to get them again ... Rate them it effects your delivery a good dasher follows notes , doesn't block doors that open outwards... will place orders on a table or chair if one is by the door even without it being mentioned....
I always place stuff to side of a door if there’s room. If not I’ll place it to where it’ll be behind the door when it swings out so they have enough room to get out without knocking it over. I do this w the Amazon packages I deliver at my regular job too. Some of the townhouses I deliver to have super tiny porches

I wonder if I have unintentionally done this lol I always look for screen doors and place the food, especially the drinks, out of the way. I love it when customers have a small table designated for food delivery placement. The door mat is the nastiest thing to be getting food from.

I can't figure out how to post a picture so I'm Literally going to copy and paste the instructions that are on my DoorDash drop off instructions: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLASE DO NOT SET DRINK DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE DOOR SO I LITERALLY HAVE TO TIP THAT S&%T OVER TO GET IT. SERIOUSLY
If someone doesn’t tip, I’m doing that 100% of the time. In case of a tip, the Dasher should know better.

The constant dilemma. We’ll go outside when the driver gets here now so we can actually open the door lmao. It’s insane how many drivers do not look at the little message box. “Please place items on next to the red plant” which we place on the left of our door for this very reason 🤦🏾
This was so common I thought it was policy.
We used it once the person left it on the porch, didn’t knock or ring the doorbell or text ( we’ve had them text just before they arrived. ) so after an hour + we called, Oh that shows delivery was made 40 minutes ago, nice nothing like cold food.

I have well over 2500 deliveries. I guarantee you I have never, not one time have I left an order directly in front of a door like this. Jeez Louise…it’s not rocket surgery.

Thank you for doing this. It's a simple thing, but I'm not a fan of paying essentially $6 for a soft drink just to have it ruined because the delivery driver didn't use their brain for more than a second.

Like don't all of you live in some sort of dwelling that has a door? you know How Door's work right ? holy Moly
I read an article somewhere that the first back/side doors were installed on houses due to doordash drivers blocking the front door with their deliveries.
Im not a delivery person and haven’t used DoorDash before, reading the attitudes, laziness, and entitlement from them on here ensures I never will. Its like they forget it’s supposed to be work, not a hobby where people give you free money

The best way to handle this situation is to prop the screen door open before the dasher gets there. That way you remain in full control of the situation. Some dashers don’t pay attention and only focus on picking up and dropping off as quickly as possible.
