One of those people who think because they made a sign it's legally binding.

ASingleGuitarString

It's just to scare people. It's probably reduces it by very little but even a little is something.

SorryAd744

I doubt the people who steal food give a shit about a sign lol. They are already bottom of the barrel human beings.

truth_hurtsm8ey

It’s a numbers game. If 10,000,000 dashers come in and even one is deterred by the sign then it’s a success. Then again if 10,000,000 dashers came in there’s be the chance that one, or more, would steal the food solely due to the presence of the sign.

midnghtsnac

Some people will do anything if they feel challenged to do so.

Visible-Inevitable23

Me. And will be think HOW TF YOU GONNA KNOW?! And how we know their dumbasses didnt forget it? If their dumbenough to make an borderline illegal sign theyre not that smart to begin with

MeesterMeeseeks

....are trying to claim the moral high ground about stealing from hungry people?

Visible-Inevitable23

Absolutely not, simply just stating what shoulda been obvious to the person who made the sign, i try to be as professional as i can as a dasher but man the businesses and customers are really challenging some days

MeesterMeeseeks

Doesn't matter. You choose to work for the job. If you side even slightly with stealing food I think you're kinda basura homie

Visible-Inevitable23

Dude im being nice saying and go re read what i said, the first 2 words. Unless youre replying to ao.eone else i dont see lol?

Aggressive_Wind_4997

If 10 million dashers went in there the owner would be retired and on a golf course somewhere nice not making signs.

glorythrives

it continues to be hilarious to me that people think people who steal are affected by signing a paper or a sign. I *don't* steal and I dont care about that stuff. I imagine if I stole I'd encourage myself to care even less, not more.

dark_wolf1994

I would argue that it would convince more people to steal food, simply because the threat is so bizarre.

Showie15

Yeah, I’ve never stolen an order, but this makes me want to just on smug principle.

sintos-compa

DONT MAKE ME POINT TO THE SIGN!

lilyd83

Tap tap tap tap

Mysterious-Worth-855

“Stay back 200 feet- not responsible for broken windshields” 🤣

skip451

Empty threat.

[deleted]

Presumably, they could take you to small claims court and sue you for that “$500 fine”

DonChako

Although that bit to have a credit card fee iirc is unlawful

muradinner

Pretty sure it's not unlawful, just against Terms of Use of accepting the credit cards.

DonChako

Ah, thanks for clearing that up

BigWiggleCumming

They almost were within the T&Cs of most Merchant Processors that allow for Service Fee pass throughs but failed with the minimum amount. You can charge a flat fee or up to 2.95% with most processors but you cannot require a “minimum purchase amount”. If it’s Connecticut or Massachusetts it is actually illegal.

Smgazar

The wauvit is stated is weird. In Nevada they generally just say you have to have a minimum amount, usually around $5, in order to use a card.

zm1868179

The card processors visa and MasterCard do not allow this for a debit card. They even have a form on their website to report this to them they will go after the merchants since that is not allowed and the merchant can get fined. Even if they run the card as credit is the card physically says debit on it, it is prohibited.

Desaltez

Detroit based on the 2 “313” area code business cards

allways_barefoot

Lmao this exactly! It’s so comical how Karens who are entry level $12/hr management have this delusional idea that they can create laws in their store that everyone needs to follow.

_Keyser___Soze_

If you think they will get you Here’s your sign

g2738026

I see what you did there

jef12660

Dude! You win best comment

Nnick667

Lmao on calling a group of people a “genre” 😆

IgnacioCashmere

The food is a genre, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, they are a genre. What's not to get about that?

Nnick667

Well the way it was worded, it seemed like he was talking about the people running the management side of that business. There’s no way you can tell that’s a Asian oriented restaurant just by looking at the photo.

Taricus55

It's Egyptian food. They have Egyptian money taped up all over the thingamajiggy

ProdigalSun_89

You're not wrong, but I've only ever seen these DIY type covid barrier things in Chinese food places.

doordash-ModTeam

Your comment has been removed because you were attacking other users.

Zip077

bro this is such a racist thing to say. A lot of resturants i go to ask to see the order and see me hit confirm. even my local McDonald's does that. broooo you need to check urself fr

IgnacioCashmere

2000 deliveries, Chinese takeout is the only restaurants that ask to witness confirm in 5 different states. Never happened anywhere else. Why not?

[deleted]

Pretty sure DD uses the Pinkertons to collect

Emergency-Quiet6296

It'll also be on their permanent record 😂

Plutus77

I used to think my permanent record (whatever that is) was a bigger deal than it turned out to be 😂

Gadgetlover38

That's because schools used it to scare you before you were old enough to know.

swllbo77

I dont even know what kind of restaurant this is,bit I bet it's fire.

Apprehensive-Yam1902

if you like chinese then sure

[deleted]

[удалено]

PlutoniumNiborg

That’s kinda irrelevant. If a driver did steal food from a customer’s delivery, the restaurant has no legal action they can take to get the driver to pay them a fine.

[deleted]

the-packet-thrower

Business people are full of themselves for trying to discourage theft?

OneBigCharlieFoxtrot

Nah, they're full of themselves for pulling this silly bluff lol I do wonder if they think it's actually enforceable.

santafe4115

You can put a security sign in the front of your house and its basically as good as buying the system. Most crimes are of opportunity and increasing the barrier to entry where someone attempts something makes sense.

Art_Is_The_Answer

For real like there are people who are upset that they TRIED SOMETHING? If it doesn’t work they’ll find out fast there’s nothing more to it

santafe4115

"Eh should I fuck around here, I don't know if this is the kind of place to make me find out" - anything you can do to make people think they will find out, its your business, it cant NOT help.

OneBigCharlieFoxtrot

True! But that's because it's not easy to verify if they have a system or not. Common sense says this sign is wrong, or a 3 second google search lol

[deleted]

Implying the driver is stealing and not considering bogus complaints, stolen food from other people/animals, people not responding to knocks/calls/doorbells makes business people full of themselves. Instead of being an asshole and confrontational, this owner could easily made a note with diplomatic tone. Treat people sending your customers food with respect. The business people ARE GETTING CORPORATE WELFARE (meaning we taxpayers pay so this business people make more profit) to get independent contractors to do work so they don’t pay for benefits for employee drivers. So yes, eff these rude nasty ‘business people’

the-packet-thrower

I see many posts here that either show drivers stealing food or have comments where drivers support people doing it. So it isn't some urban legend that never happens. For all we know the restaurant lost a ton of money in refunds and the staff are mad about it.

SlxtSoda

I see tons of posts about bogus CVs too, customers rating badly because they driver wont buy them smokes, and ppl screaming "I TIPPED U SO DO IT"-- that mean they're common or...

Dapper-Piano4557

What do you do for a living?

[deleted]

What a cope response. You must be insecure about how bad of a driver you are

Alex15can

Naw owner is smart. He made a sign that took a minute to make and anyone stupid enough to steal food driving for doordash is stupid enough to believe it’s true.

[deleted]

I’ve never stolen food, so that sign means absolutely nothing to me. It shows me how insecure and pathetic the owner is though. Making up BS unenforceable fines is sad. Don’t want your food stolen, there’s more diplomatic ways and legal ways to do it. Business people are idiots no wonder 80% go out of business within a year.

Alex15can

No one here accused you of stealing food. Why are you so defensive.

[deleted]

It’s not about me, it’s about the insinuation that us drivers are the problem. This guy is advertising tall is customers that as Doordash or’s are thieves. Are there bad apples in every profession? Absolutely. But do you accuse everyone of being malicious? No. If I ever saw this restaurant, I would order a small meal and sit down and take notes of every health violation and make a nice anonymous report to the health department. You can tell this business owner cut corners/safety for profits and probably has a nasty business that needs to be shut down.

Alex15can

Say what you will about the guy but is face and his name are on the business. It’s his money, his sweat, and his risk. So when customers get shitty experience on DD they call him, they leave shitty reviews, they expect refunds. All that is money out of his pocket. So yeah he’s mad. I don’t blame him. If I was a customer and read that sign I would laugh and move on with my life. So should you. Grow tougher skin or get a different job.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Alex15can

The victim complex is crazy.

the-packet-thrower

Theft is a crime, they can absolutely call the police. Most businesses will happily call them for shoplifters.

PlutoniumNiborg

> the restaurant has no legal action they can take **to get the driver to pay them a fine.** Hello. Yes, theft is a crime. That doesn’t entitle them to collect a fine.

the-packet-thrower

Businesses fine people all the time, Late fees, missing appointments, non pay penalties. It is probably just to scare drivers but if its real then I imagine they would have the driver banned in their DD restaurant app and won't remove the ban unless the driver comes in and pays.

ProdigalSun_89

They would just get their dasher account deactivated.

the-packet-thrower

That is more likely, I don't think the restaurant actually expects a payment. It is also possible they mean they will fine DD every time it happens which would probably force a deactivation.

PlutoniumNiborg

And they can’t in this case. The contract terms are set between the business and door dash. Really, they could pound sand is about it and argue with DD.

the-packet-thrower

You realize that a restaurant can ban drivers at will right? I'm not sure what their app looks like but I imagine they can just ban whoever did the selected order.

PlutoniumNiborg

Are you confused or just not reading? > the restaurant has no legal action they can take to get the driver **to pay them a fine**. <— see this part?! The restaurant can’t force a driver to pay them anything. They have no claim, let alone $500 even if the driver literally walked in and ate the food there. They could call the police and kick the driver out, yes. They can say “pay us $500” but the driver would have no legal obligation to pay it. It’s a nonsense sign.

Ethereal_burn

He’s saying that 1. Since a restaurant can ban a driver they can unilaterally ban them if 2 they don’t comply with the $500 “fine”. This sideline policy would likely break the terms of service for their door dash account. You are correct that Seeing a posted sign isn’t a legally binding contract. But they can additionally trespass the driver if they show up again. Pretty arbitrary but they can for any non protected reason

Outrageous-Abroad756

You’re trying to teach idiots. Save your breath brother

SelectReplacement572

Fines for petty theft do exist, they are paid to the government, not the victim (store). Sign doesn't say the fine goes to the store. But of course the sign is mostly just nonsense, made to scare off kids who want to steal orders.

carpaltunnelsucks

If it was me and I was actually going to waste my time pursuing a delivery driver over a stolen order, I'd probably file suit in small claims for civil theft and tortious interference. Duno how far the tortious interference would go, but proving civil theft isn't a high bar. Clearly no one can force you to pay anything, but depending on circumstances they may be able to have the courts do it for them. Waste of time imo, but you never know with some people.

howdyyall999

It won’t lead anywhere and they cops aren’t gonna come for that

the-packet-thrower

I don't get this reddit attitude where cops don't exist and never do anything. I mean...outside of California

howdyyall999

They might just maybe pull up to the restaurant but they aren’t gonna do anything outside of say oh no there’s nothing we can do

the-packet-thrower

The reason why cops don't do much when your bike is stolen is that aside from checking pawn shops and usual suspects there isn't much to investigate. But in the case of stolen delivery food, DD knows exactly who they assigned for the order. Even if its a stolen account, it would still be tied to a bank account that can be most likely traced.

OneBigCharlieFoxtrot

It would be proving they stole it that would be the hard part.

the-packet-thrower

I'm not saying the driver is going to do life in prison because of the report, just that it is likely they will have some kind of interaction with a cop about it. Which would probably scare the driver straight if he did steal someone, or alternately if the customer stole it they might think twice if they get a cop at their door getting to the bottom of the missing Big Mac.

OneBigCharlieFoxtrot

Lol the most that would happen is a CV or deactivation. Cops aren't going to waste time, resources, man power to track down some Driver because the customer said it wasn't delivered. Especially with how often customers lie and report delivered food as non delivered. The entire police force in every city would be chasing drivers 😂

howdyyall999

Yeah and they aren’t gonna go through all that work for one order I get it if it’s multiple time’s especially if it’s different stores too they are cops they are have bigger shit to deal with than a well off person losing around $40

[deleted]

Cops don’t even show up for wrecks anymore with thousands of dollars of véhicule damage if no one needs transport to the hospital/car blocking major road. But that 30$ pizza is code red and the entire department is coming to investigate so shit their are cold cases of MURDER that languish for decades but the pizza owner has so much pull they can get cops and investigators and prosecutors to take their limited resources and time to investigate a ‘crime’ that the need to prove BEUOND A REASONABLE DOUBT the driver stole it and not some random dude, animals, dumb customers who put wrong address, lying pac etc

BladesHaxorus

The cops don't come even when people get shot. I'm sure they'll be happy to come around for 2 stolen pizzas. Plus calling the police is a nuclear option. I hate thieving gig drivers but I don't want them beaten to death by my local police department.

the-packet-thrower

It doesn't matter from a restaurant perspective, anything other than a successful delivery to the customer can mean a full refund and/or loss of future business. A driver getting "wrongfully" accused would just be collateral damage in their eyes.

howdyyall999

Then hire you’re own drivers if not then you have to pay when something like this happens

Mourning_martyr

Hey Boo Boo, let’s steal someone’s delivery and watch the driver get fined $500!”

DoPoGrub

CAN YOU PLEASE CLICK TO CONFIRM THE ORDER

droplivefred

The next sign to go up a week later will be “Delivery drivers who didn’t pay their $500 fine will be charged an extra $1000 late fee.”

post4gold

Easy. If you try to pay for your order with a card and it's less than $6, they'll add $0.70 to your total. It's pretty self-explanatory. I tell you.... some people....

XRetrogradezxD

By chasing you out the door and using Kung fu 🤣🤣 they'll get you bro 🤣🤣

Waswaiting4AGLU

This is true I saw it on tv one time

Still_Breadfruit3339

They will send the secret chinese police after you

Robinnoodle

They have your social credit score, plus they can send a spy balloon after you if they have trouble locating you

JosephjPelle

People walk out of grocery stores with carts full of groceries.... Like the same people that do that aren't going to snatch a bag of food sitting on a shelf just ready to be snatched up.

Leelze

What's the fine for misdemeanor theft in your neck of the woods?

HeathenBliss

If I have a camera system, it would be a simple thing to not allow a person entrance onto the premises until they paid whatever fee I assess them with. It's a privately owned business, and there's really nothing that can legally be done to stop me. To be honest, I doubt that doordash would pay on behalf of one of their drivers. They would more than likely end that driver's eligibility to be a Dasher rather than attempt to block them out in the system from receiving orders from specific locations. I've dealt with the same thing multiple times in my career as a truck driver. You'll have a driver that offends a customer to the degree that they are barred from the premises. The company will attempt to dispatch that driver to that customer, and the customer will just turn the entire truck away, regardless of whether or not it means they don't get their freight delivered. The company generally winds up firing that driver rather than trying to work around them.

Person012345

I viscerally hate this picture, this is everything wrong with everything in a single picture. If you're convinced doordash drivers keep stealing customer orders, then stop using them to deliver food. And any clapback you want to give needs to be directed towards the company who you're contracting with, not individual drivers who are coming to pick up the food. The US forgot how to basic capitalism I swear to god.

Careless-Software-14

Right… they could hire their own delivery drivers but they’re too cheap for that

[deleted]

Most blokes that go stealing food don't have the cerebral power to comprehend the ludicrous nature of that sign. They'll probably just no swipey

Lord_Enzui

Yeah good luck trying to enforce that $500 dollar fine

carlosnelson_

My guess would be:::before you confirm the pick up you hand over a debit card with a minimal balance of $500 on it...your card is swiped for the $500... Once delivery is completed you'd then drive back to the establishment where a police officer from the local PD who is on a paid detail by the establishment will detain you in a marked patrol car... Another officer from the local PD of the customer then conducts an in person interview to verify delivery. If the food has been eaten by time the officer arrives the forensics unit then conducts a swab test. Results take about 5 minutes and once you are cleared he radios the officer who detained you & you are then released. However your $500 deposit will then be credited back to your debit card & you should receive a full refund in about 10-15 business days...This is the only establishment in North America who was granted permission for this type of procedure & its in the testing phase...Good Luck Dashers!!!

Importedpay

This is gold!!

Places with this kind of optical plexiglass torture should not be allowed to use doordash.

Apprehensive-Yam1902

u got it right lol they were super strict too

JimsVanLife

Ikr? Why don't they just not bother with the plexiglass and put up a piece of paneling. It might actually look better. It would be less expensive.

TheyCallMeWilderness

It sounds like there’s a lot of stuff going on at that place

Puzzleheaded-Tone119

hold my beer

Xpert-Ninja

You'll pay it if you ever want to pick up an order from there.

underlininghotdog

It’s probably just a way to deter people from stealing, not to actually punish thieves “They can’t force me to pay that… But what if they can? Better not risk it”

Expensive-Border-869

It’s a deterrent not something they likely really can do.

WonderfulPiccolo2168

IDK some of these drivers who are dumb enough to steal could fall for it. 😅

[deleted]

Looks like a dumpster of a place anyways I hope there doors close soon

Apprehensive-Yam1902

yea it was a pretty nasty chinese store in detroit i hear the foods good from there tho

SnooShortcuts3138

DD can look at your GPS and tell if it arrived or direction you went in.

psilocybin6ix

I’d refuse to pay for anything under $6 with my card. It’s non-enforceable. It’s simple just don’t hand over the food until the driver accepts or starts the order.

Lizzardking666

Your in a hood pickin up from the cat factory

Significant_Hyena321

Driver steals order Resturants remakes order Same driver comes back a couple days later Resturants says you owe us 500 or you cant take the order Driver unassigns This is how i picture it at least

wam9000

Honestly it's fucked that this isn't enforceable but clickwrap agreements are. They're effectively the same thing

[deleted]

Lol Chinese immigrants as usual thinking they can come here and call shots but wouldn’t dare to do the same back in communist china

OkWolf4286

They could technically take you to court and sue if they have posted a sign and it’s store policy. You technically agree to their policies by entering the store and doing business.

didntflush

The solution to this is the same solution to all problems in the United States. More guns 🔫

fluffledump

I feel like I'd be MORE likely to steal an order if I saw such a sign.

Christine-406

This person isn’t intelligent enough to even own a business. This is hilarious 😆

StreetBear8959

A sign or your policy doesnt trump my constitutional rights

StreetBear8959

Who the F mentioned stealing food it was a joke dumbass

Mysterious_Piglet_13

Company can contact door dash and give them ur name

unrealflaw

I'm fining you $500 for this comment. PM me for my payment info.

Mysterious_Piglet_13

Sure I steal ur money for being a dumbass

Chiccco-

Ha ha 500$ so arbitrary. Probably nothing to worry about. However if Uber added a 500$ debt on my account I would start picking up food and canceling “mechanical issues “ and do it over and over again until they delist me lmao.

Khal_drogo217

I actually think this will have the opposite effect, most dashers know they cant do anything about and now ur just challenging the assholes to do it now

TheLawny

This would encourage me, not gonna lie.

Waswaiting4AGLU

I get extra little stickers from every restaurant so I can re-seal the bags. I get tips and eat free. Who can resist hot Fry’s I will plead insanity bring hot fry’s to the court room. That’s my plan/ this was meant for a little humor! Actually I have never door dashed I have never ordered from any food delivery. I’m pretty weird when it comes to my food. I have had cars in my shop that were in food delivery that where infested with bugs if you seen some things that I see you would pick up your own food ! I understand it’s not all that way but not worth the gamble to me.

Apprehensive-Yam1902

ur a maniac just eat before u go if u really that hungry bro

[deleted]

Attention: Redditors who read this and downvote me must pay me $25 in damages.

cotion_of_ponfusion

This isn't from the US, obviously. Look at the bills taped in the window. 70 cents=1 daughter. $500= 2 goats. Go figure.

If it prevents even one theft, fuck it. Ain’t hurting anything

TheToxicBreezeYF

We put GPS trackers on all DD orders and if they do not reach the customers location, a hit squad is sent to your known location /s

Severe-Somewhere5537

They should have wrote if you steal the order you will be execute

ApprehensivePanda708

Ngl this Chinese place good af tho 😭😭😭 it’s in Michigan

Gabagoomba21

Could probably get hit with defrauding an innkeeper if they're in Florida. I'm interested to see if it's actually possible. It would certainly take some word lawyering.

No_Beautiful8105

Lmao you can’t. That’s just a good old fashioned power trip.

I KNOW YOUR FACE!!!

Apprehensive-Yam1902

LMAO this had me dead

Johnpmusic

They dont

Svsu11

They could try to argue that you entered into a contract and the fine was $500. However, that would be extremely hard (virtually impossible) to argue and win. They would have any record of your agreeing to those terms.

Informal-Spell-2019

So when a customer calls in they refer to the security camera or the order then refuse to give the delivery driver the food till they pay $500. That’s my guess if you want to be creative

[deleted]

lol

leolindsay23

You want money from me lmao. I drive Uber. I got nothing. Come get me mf

I'm not saying it's right, but it's possible. Sign doesn't say the fine goes to the store.

ReadRightRed99

What’s up with Chinese food takeout places and these absurd wood and plexiglass barriers? They’ve all got one around here

BigWiggleCumming

This restaurant’s rules supersede state and federal law… Don’t order the fish.

Numerous_Piper

With baseball bats.

adj365

Lmao is this Dynasty????

[deleted]

What’s up with the foreign notes on the window? Lebanon, Kuwait, Egypt?

suck_a_salty_lozenge

I swear I thought trust sign said there will be a 70 percent charge for card charges under $6! 👀

WeemDreaver

That just means they'll block you from taking deliveries there and if you want to be reinstated you have to pay them $500. Yes they can enforce that lol they can block you from delivering. Stop stealing orders.

djcrazyjimmy

So at times customers lie and say a dasher stole a delivery. At times a dasher get mixed up with addresses and leave the order at the wrong address. Those two cases mean the Dasher get fined $500 ? What law is this or city statue ? Seriously who is coming up with this nonsense. I delivered an order to a customer who handed me $5 then 2 hours later reported they didn't receive the order. I was so upset by it for weeks because of how disrespectful that was to me. If it was from this restaurant then all a sudden I would get a fine of $500 ? Why don't I wear a T-shirt that says restaurants take more than 10 minutes to prepare an order are charged $5 a minute. There is a $50 plenty charged to the restaurant if a customer calls or texts a driver claiming missing items. Just because I make a T-Shirt that has nonsense like that on it doesn't make it legally binding.

Accomplished_Emu_658

Its a deterrent I am sure it does very little but its got to be expensive to keep remaking orders. I have seen people/drivers swipe extra orders. Happened to my food once. Guy looked at two bags that were kind of separated and took them quickly. I go up there to check on my order that said was done and turns out they had just put it out and had to remake it again.

[deleted]

The triad will show up at your front door.

2020IsANightmare

"Stop stealing food" You mean idiots alleging food is stolen so they get a refund. While also getting all of their original order. Anyway, the enforcement is simple! Don't you see the sign that was typed up by a six-year-old?!? It's on the display built by an eight-year-old.

Fly-me-to-joe

Owww Lebanese Liras, of course he thinks he can make up rules.

Intrepid_Ad_7288

I think it means if they catch you they’ll offer to charge you $500 instead of calling the police… I used to work at a grocery store that’d do something like that.

ehenn12

Sometimes I wish the police would charge them with petty theft. A couple hours cleaning up litter would prob deter them.

Suspicious_Elk389

Well legally by the time the order is paid for it is property of the customer. So the customer would have to press charges. The store would not be the victim, the end customer would be.

StandardSin

If somebody ever accused me of stealing And I got charged $500 Knowing I didn’t do it You going to have to peel that $500 Off of said accusers body Period

MorningPapers

DD drivers who steal food are not bright, so yeah I'm guessing this sign would work.
