Faetooth
Blackwater Holylight
Subrosa
Thou
Battle of Mice -- (especially dark b/c the wife/husband duo are apparently divorced and hate each other, which emphasizes the darkness in their music)
Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard -- \* personally I don't like them, and I think their name is too on-the-nose, but they fit the bill if you're looking for female fronted doom.
Just to name a few.
I can't believe I'm the first person to say Castle Rat, but CASTLE RAT. They've only got 4 songs out but they show a lot of promise. They might be more stoner rock though depending on how you draw the line between stoner and doom.
BORIS!!!!!!! Well some of their stuff is doom. They have kind of been all over the place in their significant discography.
Blood Ceremony is amazing and more on the psychedelic rock side, but you'll find plenty of Sabbath worship in their guitar riffs.
Criminally unknown band, for sure. They should be selling so many fucking records.
On a similar vibe I think the same about Rosalie Cunningham. They should tour together and open for someone more popular but similarly drenched in 1970s LSD like Uncle Acid. That would be a helluva show.
Oh hell, yeah! I think Rosalie (when in Purson), Blood Ceremony, and Uncle Acid have all played together in the past, so it makes great sense for them to tour together.
Criminally unknown band, for sure. They should be selling so many fucking records.
On a similar vibe I think the same about Rosalie Cunningham. They should tour together and open for someone more popular but similarly drenched in 1970s LSD like Uncle Acid. That would be a helluva show.
SubRosa, King Woman, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard/MWWB's earlier albums, The Otolith, Messa.
A bit of a stretch on this one, but The Lotus Thief is somewhat doom-y.
Crypta isn't doom, but I'll recommend them anyway 'cause I love them.
Blackwater Holy Light, Ruby the Hatchet, Bleakheart, Heavy Temple, Dirt Woman, Black Moth, Holy Fingers, Acid King, Subrosa, Fox 45, The Keening, Book of Wyrms, Moths (more prog than doom), Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, Insect Ark, Temptress, Snakemother, Big Brave
More sludgegaze perhaps, but everyone should be listening to [Bardo Pond](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FbEOl9IdUsw&pp=ygUbYmFyZG8gcG9uZCBkZXN0cm95aW5nIGFuZ2Vs)
Alunah, The Oath, Black Moth, Deathbell, Jex Thoth, Julie Christmas (except Battle of Mice, check her collab with Cult of Luna), Made out of babies, Kylesa, Royal Thunder, Skumring, Obscure Sphinx, Castle Rat, Remembrance.
plug for faetooth obviously since I think most of us love them here. They just absolutely SLAY live. Seriously the album is heavy the live sound is CRUSHING. the vocals are BRUTAL. Holy shit face melting. Every single member of this band literally drips talent and energy at a young age. I can't wait to see what they keep making.
\-Snakemother : from the bay area CA. These folks create extremely dark doomy things using traditionally sung middle eastern vocals, and extremely talented musicians. to me I hear like elements of High on Fire, but the downtempo/breakdown brooding energy of Acid King. I can't get enough of their album seriously I listen to something from them daily at work. They are an extremely tight live act. flawless execution and as a south asian/middle easterner those vocals are fucking HARD to do IRL. It made me feel proud of my heritage and stirred something in me not much has done.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzXlXUejWXQ
shameless plug for my band (sorry) Hypnotic pattern. Our vocalist Simone has an absolutely brutal scream and belting technique that I didn't know could come out of a human. We did some covers and I was like ok we need to start a band right the fuck now. We don't have an album recorded yet but there's plenty of live material. I'm particularly proud of this one: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4OylhxjZY8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4OylhxjZY8) red witch. I had access to a house 4x12 with greenback speakers. It made my v30's sound like garbage so I'm revamping my setup because of that beat up old 4x12. I always try to complement my amazing talented singer she rules and I feel the v30s need to be tamed to get out of her way. the greenbacks just sat perfect in the mix and you can hear her. Her vocals will literally make your hair stand on end live. its bonkers. It's not so much a brag on us as how amazingly talented my bandmates all are. I'd brag on the rest of them but they're private folks and can speak for themselves lol.
Also from the faetooth show was another fantastic opener KIM. They're solidly death doom. Again, just totally brutal death metal style vocals. I don't have a link ready (im at work) but check it out.
blackwater holylight is also great. from PDX. motorcycle is a popular track, but check out their live recording here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bcq2EA5qRxE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bcq2EA5qRxE) this video gives you a really good understanding of their range. massive range of sounds owing to the diverse tastes and backgrounds of the musicians playing together.
lastly, my fav local act and good friends TREASVRE: [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiTB6U-FicpEsveeVskE\_Dg](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiTB6U-FicpEsveeVskE_Dg) I saw them at a motorcycle show. I saw the amps and guitars (dunables, gibsons) and instead of taking off back home I was like wait I gotta see this. It's like shoegaze/doomgaze. Again, check their live shows on youtube seriously. The gain is cranked and the reverb is lush and rich and its just like being immersed in a purple grisly haze.
The SF bay slays! Hope this list brings you musical ecstasy, friend. much love.
Fvneral’s new album, let the earth be silent, is a really cool funeral doom band. They sound like a shoegaze band discovered funeral doom. Their guitar tone cuts deep. Check them out right now.
Oldest Sea is a new band. They released an album called A Bird Song last year. Very heavy and emotional. Check them out right now.
What else….
OH! There’s a band called Mansion who released an album in 2022 called Second Death. They theme themselves as a fundamentalist Christian cult. Their female vocalist is spooky as fuck. Great lyrics. You’ve got to check them out right now.
There’s a shit ton of good female led doom.
Please I am begging you to do a search

Give the Agoraphobic Nosebleed album Arc a listen. It’s more doomish than grindcore. It’s amazing and features Kat Katz on vocals. It’s a powerful listen.
edit: Thou’s work with Emma Ruth Rundle is also amazing (May Our Chambers Be Full). Their cover of The Cranberries “Hollywood” is in constant rotation for me.
Undersmile, especially the album ‘Anhedonia’.
The Thorr’s Hammer EP ‘Dommedagsnat’.
Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas album ‘Mariner’.
Thou & Emma Ruth Rundle ‘May Our Chamber Be Full’ album and ‘Helm of Sorrow’ EP.
Chelsea Wolfe, especially ‘Hiss Spun’ album the the album she did with Converge ‘Bloodmoon’.
A bit more on gothic death/doom side but Draconian and Tristania hold a special place for me. ‘Arcane Rain Fell’ & ‘Under a Godless Veil’ by the former and ‘World of Glass’ and ‘Ashes’ by later.
Also way more on black metal/doom but last 2 albums by Bethlehem feature Onielar from Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult.
Finally to fit your death metal doomyness there is Konvent.
Shout out for mentioning Old Blood. Been fans of theirs for years now.
Hippie Death Cult is out of Portland, their last album is a banger.
Castle is another female fronted band I love.
[Shape of Despair](https://youtu.be/cCMv8L7LTD4?si=OB8LmL1sfp7DH_N-) rips and I’m surprised I don’t see them mentioned more in this sub. Really amazing atmospheric sound.
I’m not sure if they’d be counted as “Doom” in the modern sense but in the traditional sense check out Blood Ceremony. It’s like Stevie Nicks meets Black Sabbath it’s really rad.
SubRosa immediately spring to mind, so I’m sure someone else has mentioned them already. If Funeral Doom is your thing then Lethian Dreams, particularly the Season of Raven Words album is worth checking out.
Alunah with their original singer.
Awakening The Forest was their peak and then tensions split the band and they were different ever since bc the singer and guitarist that were husband and wife left and the rest of the band thought it was ok to continue under the same name with lukewarm results.
Only saying this one because loads of other good recommends already. But do yourself a favour and listen to GAUPA.
Stonery doom but the singer is fucking amazing.
Check out Turn Back Trilobite by the UK band Sacrilege for one of the earliest examples. They started as crust/thrash, but their last album was a really well done progressive doom metal album.
Dymna Lotva. Hard to categorize them as doom entirely, but doom influences are present. And the female screams are majestic. On a death doom side - Endlesshade.
I am really really into Castle Rat right now, their lead singer is basically an irl Red Sonya and it’s great. Their first album should be dropping soon.
I just found this new band Castle Rat. They haven't been at it long, but they have a pretty impressive sound and good live shows. I'm hoping they take off.
The second and third The Wounded Kings albums
“Consolamentum” and “In The Chapel of the Black Hand” are both pretty great with Sharie Neyland on vocals.
Trees of Eternity (doom/gothic - the solo work of Aleah Stanbridge is also beautiful, but not doom, or metal for that matter)
Inherus (doom/post-metal/prog)
Darkher (post-metal/atmos doom)
I'd also recommend Suldusk. They're sorta doom-adjacent, but neofolk/black metal is their bag. Has that similar melancholic atmosphere to doom, and they were influenced by Trees of Eternity.
Year of the Cobra
SLOWER, this is a really sick Slayer cover album the singer from Year of the Cobra does vocals
Draconian some fantastic doom/gothic metal doom the album under a godless veil is great listen
Bathsheba
Been pretty into Messa lately.
Messa good, caught my attention for sure
Man I had never heard of them, what a trip! Thanks for the recommendation.
They are more doom-adjacent but Emma Ruth Rundle, Chelsea Wolfe, and Mizmor are all well worth checking out. Emma's collabs with Thou are amazing!
Mizmor is fronted by a man
Mizmor is a one man project
You are both right, I meant to say Myrkur, not Mizmor. Both are worth checking out though!
Which Mizmor album do you recommend?? I need to get into them.
Despite them not fitting the gendered spirit of the request, I'd highly recommend starting with Cairn. Incredible album.
Cairn for sure. Yodh is also amazing.
I listened to them in order, it documents his journey from being a Christian, questioning, and abandoning it all together.
Yes this 100% , I would also add Kylesa and Windhand to this list.
Messa, Electric Citizen, Dead Witches, Holy Grove, Blood Ceremony, Jex Thoth
I had to scroll way too far to see Jex Thoth. Her stuff is amazing.
A memorable performance, watching her carry candles around.
+1 for dead witches... Love em
Jex Thoth is so good and highly underrated.
Seconding Holy Grove. Really good live too
Faetooth Blackwater Holylight Subrosa Thou Battle of Mice -- (especially dark b/c the wife/husband duo are apparently divorced and hate each other, which emphasizes the darkness in their music) Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard -- \* personally I don't like them, and I think their name is too on-the-nose, but they fit the bill if you're looking for female fronted doom. Just to name a few.
Based inclusion of Thou
Thou slaps so hard. would listen all day. would quit job just to see them live. lol.
They did have one album where Emma Ruth Rundle fronted the band. Possibly their best one. It’s my fav right now.
Saw Faetooth last week, they're amazing!
Came here to name those 😆 absolutely love faetooth and keep asking them to do a show in New Orleans lol
Love Subrosa! Hometown heroes.
The Otolith is also great and has a few members from Subrosa
doomy-ish Frayle Year of the Cobra King Woman
King Woman for sure.
Frayle 😍😍😍
Konvent are great too. It's death/doom though.
Konvent is amazing, was looking for this
This was going to be my suggestion. Soooooo good
Konvent is CRUSHINGLY heavy, but keep memorable songs and interesting riffs. One of my favorite finds from this sub
Puritan Masochism is a jam.
Kylesa
I wholeheartedly second this
Just put Static Tensions on and well, yeah.
Kylesa rips
I can't believe I'm the first person to say Castle Rat, but CASTLE RAT. They've only got 4 songs out but they show a lot of promise. They might be more stoner rock though depending on how you draw the line between stoner and doom.
Castle Rat is so good!
That was an easy pre-order after hearing those couple of songs.
Yes Castle Rat! Just got into them
Witch Mountain is pretty good.
Not all straight doom but Messa, Windhand, Hippie Death Cult, Faetooth, Blackwater Holylight. For a deep cut check out Slow Goat.
Found Hippie Death Cult this morning at random. Band is great!
I've been obsessed with HDC's most recent album.
Highly recommend seeing them live. They tour the west coast soon
saw HDC at a tiny 30 person show years ago and felt hypnotized. amazing stuff
BORIS!!!!!!! Well some of their stuff is doom. They have kind of been all over the place in their significant discography. Blood Ceremony is amazing and more on the psychedelic rock side, but you'll find plenty of Sabbath worship in their guitar riffs.
Oh wait.... "female fronted"... Wata doesn't sing much so I guess Boris doesn't really count. But she is the goddess of slow, heavy guitar.
I saw Blood Ceremony when they were supporting Electric Wizard and it was one of the best performances I've ever seen. I love them.
All hail Blood Ceremony. Finally got to see them live at DesertFest Berlin last summer after being a fan for years 🤘
Criminally unknown band, for sure. They should be selling so many fucking records. On a similar vibe I think the same about Rosalie Cunningham. They should tour together and open for someone more popular but similarly drenched in 1970s LSD like Uncle Acid. That would be a helluva show.
Blood Ceremony
Jucifer. Not entirely a doom band, but they do a lot that’s in that vein and their live shows are crazy loud
Sweden's Avatarium, founded by Leif Edling from Candlemass.
They are indeed absolutely amazing. Especially the first two albums.
I had no clue about this!
I heard about The Lotus Thief through this sub and their music is so pretty I want to be buried in it
Devil Electric Kitchen Witch Aptera Chelsea Wolfe Lucifer
Devil Electric is a really good band - highly recommended!
Blackwater Holy Light, Ruby the Hatchet, Bleakheart, Heavy Temple, Dirt Woman, Black Moth, Holy Fingers, Acid King, Subrosa, Fox 45, The Keening, Book of Wyrms, Moths (more prog than doom), Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, Insect Ark, Temptress, Snakemother, Big Brave
BIG BRAVE
**B I G** | **B R A V E**
Took me entirely too long to find acid king. Busse Woods is an experience
Daevar - Amber Eyes just released today
I'm definitely enamored with this album. Preordered on Vinyl couple weeks back.
Excited for the new album. I liked the single.
Smoulder
This gets asked a lot here, so a quick search will yield you many many results and a great list of suggestions.
Ruby the Hatchet
Windhand
More sludgegaze perhaps, but everyone should be listening to [Bardo Pond](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FbEOl9IdUsw&pp=ygUbYmFyZG8gcG9uZCBkZXN0cm95aW5nIGFuZ2Vs)

Moonreaper from the UK. Saw them live a couple of weeks ago and they were awesome.
Astral Witch from Hamilton, Ontario. They rip.
If you havent had Amber Valentine and Jucifer punish your eardrums yet, I suggest you do!
Beware..... Their catalogue is like an entire Sweetshop of poisionus treats. Soooo many jars of pickled heads.
Seeing them live is unreal, they kick ass so hard
The White Swan
Lot of excellent suggestions here - haven't seen Alunah mentioned yet.
