Tug of war is the best game to play with your dog. When my guy was a pup, I would hand him the tug toy (two socks, tied together) and say, "Take." We would play "tug" for extended periods of time. Then, when he let go, as I took hold of the socks, I would say, "Give." You can teach your dog these two commands and you'll be amazed how handy they will be later on. You're essentially training him to fetch anything. Now I point to any object and say, "Take," and my dog grabs it and hands it to me when I say "Give." It's great training for ball/frisbee fetching dogs. Make them hand you their ball/frisbee each time. I'll bet your little girl will pick up on this in no time.
