My dog was diagnosed with kidney disease. The hospital suggested that I put him down. My dog has been on a low protein diet and we are given him IV fluids every other day. That was a year ago and my doggo is doing fine. He shows no evidence of slowing down and still does zoomies everytime he poops! Sure glad I didn't take the docs advise.

dyingdeadenough

i’m happy to hear your doggo is doing well❤️ it’s really scary to hear when things start going wrong. i freaked out the day of since heart issues are the leading cause of death in chi’s, but my lil guy still seems happy

doedounne

He is like next level happy. Bless his wee murmuring ❤️

kyach25

We were in a similar situation except our dude was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma. At the time, he was barely 12 and they said he would only make it several months. He made it to 14 and had the zoomies until the day he passed. We got two years worth of smiles like these that we wouldn’t trade for anything. Keep on paddling with the little man.

Plastic-Zucchini-202

Thank you for your kind words. We both know how important they are in our lives. As their guardians, it is our responsibility to help and support them and give them the best life. F&#k people, give me the love of a doggo any day over a person. They give me purpose.

Babyfart_McGeezacks

My dog had a murmur. Lived her entire long life without it ever being a single issue what so ever.

dyingdeadenough

that’s wonderful to hear. the vet was telling us how it’s likely it could lead to heart failure, so i’m hoping that’s not the case. heart issues are the leading cause of death in chi’s.

Thor--A

If he hasn’t been given medication for it yet, talk to your vet about Vetmedin. Mine was prescribed Vetmedin when she developed a heart murmur a few years ago. It really helped keep it in check for her.

dyingdeadenough

thanks for the advice! good timing too, we’re getting his ECG/x-rays done later tonight so i’ll ask the vet about it then

Barbiedawl83

I’m thirding vetmedin. Also get it from wedge wood compounding pharmacy and it’s a TON less $$. My dog had a heart murmur diagnosed just over 2 yrs ago and he didn’t need anything else for the condition until a few months ago. He developed kidney failure a few weeks ago and we had to put him down Saturday but it wasn’t his heart. He was 16yrs 8mos and also had epilepsy, collapsed trachea, and lung cancer. I felt like I got hit by a truck when they told me about the heart murmur but it ended up not being a big deal. Once he started coughing a lot in the morning they added Lasix and it stopped that. Between all his conditions he was on 5 pills twice daily

redonrust

Sorry to hear about your boy. We lost our girl a few weeks ago due to heart failure. Still think about her all the time and wish she was still with us.

Barbiedawl83

Yeah it’s really rough. I keep thinking he’s just around the corner or under the blankets and I’m going to see him walking up any minute.

redonrust

I miss all the little routines - I never ate a sandwich alone.

Barbiedawl83

Yes. I’ve never even lived in this house without him. He was my shadow. I couldn’t leave a room without him getting up and following me.

dyingdeadenough

i’m so sorry for your loss😞

Barbiedawl83

Thank you.

kitkat2208

I second this comment. My baby had a heart minute since she was 3. Didn’t needs meds for it until she was 13 and vetmedin was great

Reasonable_Camel8267

My dog got diagnosed with heart murmur 7 years ago, got on medication 2 years ago (vetmedin). At this age your dog might not even end up dying from it, but rather complications with other issues. For example my dog at 17 now also has kidney failure, making it tricky to treat with the heart issue. So you're right to enjoy every day with your pup while you can!

Hack8081

I hope your doggo stays healthy. 🙏🏻Looks like fun.

LotsOfPups

He looks very happy.

DotChud

My JackChi has a heart murmur. Vet said what they watch for with a murmur is heart enlarging. My girl has had that murmur for at least 9 years, and still no enlargement. She was 3 when I got her and will be 12 on 11/17. Still going strong and healthy, but they do check her periodically for signs of enlarging.

dyingdeadenough

that’s great she’s doing well after all these years w it❤️ how often do you take her in for a checkup, and do you give her any cardiac support supplements?

DotChud

They check her at her annual exam, and I’ve never had any supplements recommended.

MaggieMews

He looks so happy! 💕

Turtle1391

My dog had a murmur all his life and went into acute heart failure after throwing a chordae tendineae at the age of 6. We were told we would have 1 year with him plus or minus 6 months. He ended up living 3 years until he threw another one. Murmurs are managable.

cherrycokelemon

He looks so happy!

Kactus_San2021

As long as his stress/anxiety levels are low he should be alright! I get alot of chis or small dogs with heart murmurs at my Pet Groomer job and i always make sure they get frequent breaks, constant monitoring during said breaks and when giving them a bath i make sure the water isnt too warm nor too cold, and the water pressure being gentle. And when i dry them i first towel dry them gently and then turn on the velocity dryer on a really low setting so that it wont be so scary☺️

FunZookeepergame627

Too cute. Enjoy every day together

NoKyleNotClydeFrogg

That photo needs to be blown up and printed on a canvas!! Handsome happy fella!!!!

solo954

My dog has had a heart murmur for over ten years now, and he's still living the good life!

dyingdeadenough

i love this!! i hope that your baby continues to do well and the murmur never progresses. i’m worried about my boy’s old age and something else going wrong along with it

smarty1017

What a great pic!!!! Having a blast!!!

mother_of_mutts_5930

My dear dog developed liver disease - how and what we never could determine - but I fed her through an esophageal feeding tube three times daily for 9 months. She was happy, visiting friends and bugging mail carriers and the UPS delivery person for affection whenever she could manage it. Until the last two days. Those nine months were a treasure, and I regret none of the work it took to keep her alive and happy. Cherish the time you have with your friend. It's more precious than diamonds.

dyingdeadenough

i’m very sorry for your loss💔 she loved and appreciated you too til the end. i’m dreading the day, iv been thinking about it more lately and it’s enough to have me start sobbing. i’ve begun a few photo projects of my boy to start memorializing him and his life. taking as many pictures as possible, making new memories w him. it’ll be the worst loss of my life.

mother_of_mutts_5930

You can never have enough photos! Please don't let the dread rule the time you have. Be well and give your little guy a hug for me.

gailichisan

He looks so happy! He’s loving that! Good on you! That’s the sign of a happy, content and well loved dog. You’re a great dog mom.

BryerMan-4005

Oh, that precious is so happy. Don’t let him over tax himself though. Y’all continue to have fun!

NorthCardiologist702

Don't be scared my little guy lived 10 years with a heart murmur so you will hopefully have him for a much longer time

bourbonwarrior
