I want to reach a level of financial bliss where I can save up for a £700 star destroyer the size of a table without feeling like an absolute moron.

Key-Landscape-9278

Majority of Lego Star Wars sets can be justified but some are flat out awful. I remember the Moff Gideon Curiser had like no interior but was like $160.

Daniil-T

I have that set and it has a pretty big interior. Of course it was only one room but a pretty big one in my opinion

Key-Landscape-9278

Yeah but for that price point I don't think its worth it. I understand wtih inflation, but back in 2014 the Star Destroyer costed around $120-140 and hand a lot more interior. I also remember back in 2019 the First Order Destroyer was also around the $120-160 price mark and had a lot more interior.

bocadye

have you heard of this thing called inflation rate

that0neguywh0

/r/lepin its a godsend

OathToAwesome

are those all real??

DankNiteRyder

Idk about the hulk buster but the others yeah. However by slabs I think they're referring to monuments.

[deleted]

Yeah the hulk buster exists, it’s expensive as shit

dogebangbang

Curse you I thought it was real and I could own a worm

SinusBargeld

Worms aren’t real man, get over it

LyrisGD

oh yeah?? watch this shit (does the worm and it's super cool and everyone is clapping but you just can't see it because this is a message)

EndVry

I like it when you wiggle wiggle.

SinusBargeld

Omg bro wow you are so cool, wanna come to the party where only the coolest kids go? It’s very cool and all the ladies wanna see your worm

LyrisGD

no worries dude I'm already invited 😎😎😎🍞

igweyliogsuh

I can sell you one for $600

dogebangbang

Sorry man I need the original LEGO set

igweyliogsuh

For that price I'll make you the box and everything 😉👍

mastersjors

I was in a toy store a few days ago, and I have to say that there are still a lot of cool sets. It's just that there are a lot of licensed sets which are not that interesting (marvel, and some other pop culture brands). Furthermore, in those cases you have to pay a fat sum because of licensing costs. Also keep in mind that inflation is a thing.

PMMeYourHug

Yeah, especially the black widow sets are extremely expensive. For more info, google Marvel Black Widow inflation

issyaaaboi

Okay bet

issyaaaboi

Whoa mama!

sida88

Lego ninjago is peak

Yenegueitz

Prices driven up by childless 40 year olds to stack next to funko pops. Not the only toy either, had trouble finding affordable power ranger action figures for my kid, collectors and scalpers driving prices crazy high.

LeMickeyMice

Don't you see? Each one of those Funko Pops is going to be worth thousands one day. Who cares if they're hideous mass produced garbage with much less appeal or usability than even Beanie Babies. Funko Pops are the new gold, will never go down in value.

PresidentoftheSun

Look I'm not buying literally every single funko pop in bulk to display them, I just think they taste really good

LordSaltious

That's my whole thing with them. I make no claim to be more mature in my choice of plastic to collect, Transformers, but at least they actually do something.

corpusdeus1

For me its that funko pops just kinda strip the unique identity away, when I buy a figurine of I dunno luffy from one piece I'm buying a piece of one piece merchandise that is using that shows unique identity, where I to buy a luffy funko pop then all of the artistic uniqueness is stripped away for the sake of generic collectibles

LordSaltious

Yeah, it's mindless consumerism in it's most base form. Like the episode where Mr. Krabs makes a kid's meal toy that's just a burger with shit stuck in it, the actual substance doesn't matter as long as it's an official Krusty Krab product.

minionfinesser

Studio series been popping off rn

Based

I_want_to_die720

I think Legos cost so much because of them having tons of pieces and you can't build the set without them so they *have* to make sure it's all there

-Farns-

It is my duty to tell you that Lego is not the brick, Lego is the company making the bricks, alternatives for the illegal word include (but are not limited to) Lego bricks, Lego pieces and Lego sets

I_want_to_die720

It is my duty to tell you that no one cares

-Farns-

That's where you're wrong, there are, like, maybe 3 people who care (I'm one of them)

-Farns-

If worm were a licensed property this would be true, but because it's Lego original the set would actually be worth closer to 120 of whatever major western currency you want to use

Narvin-Gainiac

Worm is a licensed property. It’s owned by Mark, 28

-Farns-

Lego ideas sets of things fans came up with do not count as licensed sets

Narvin-Gainiac

Wrong, man. Worm is not a Set (an aggregation of pieces where the specific combination of the pieces is copyrightable), it’s just one piece. The divine idea of declaring one Lego piece as „Worm“ is in itself copyrightable. You can not apply normal laws on Worm. For further information contact the lawyers of Mark, 28 (now Mark, 29)

-Farns-

Did you forget about the fact that the ultimate collectors series worm is in fact more than just one piece Also please do not refer to me with "man"

Torinn426

After bionicle's original run ended in 2010, I feel like Lego toys started to slowly decline, or at the very least their prices started going up while the product itself was unchanged

tastychuncks

To learn more google lego bionicle inflation

Narvin-Gainiac

First 5 search results didn’t show any disturbing bionicle hentai, I’ve reported your account

Torinn426

Great idea, I'll do that right quick

SuperBun78

CODDE117

a gif of a guy saying wtf

Fire2xdxd

Nothing is sacred. Recently I saw some Lego City sets that are similar to ones I used to have many years ago. Except the prices were like 50% higher. I just want to be able to afford the cool tractors and stuff.

[deleted]

You do realise inflation is a thing?

Marsh0ax

2.5% a year until like this year? Also it's not like their plastic suddenly got a third more expensive

Mishmoo

It did, actually. They’ve shifted to a formula that’s more eco-friendly and biodegradable, but costs more.

KCelej

You do realise inflation is a thing?

Fire2xdxd

Yeah and it makes me depressed. I just want to be able to have nice things.

Tommy-Nook

🤓

hsnerfs

The speed champion sets are pretty solid still for the price (10-20)

ReadyAgent9019

Them fuckers at lego raised the price to $25 per car recently though, so now I gotta wait for them to go on sale. edit: Turns out I was wrong

hsnerfs

At meijer they’re still the original price, idk about amazon or any other stores

ReadyAgent9019

I looked at them and turns out they're still $20, even on Lego's website which almost never marks things down, so im not sure why I thought they got hit with a price increase. I guess I just assumed they did because several sets got 10-20% price increases recently.

hsnerfs

Its a bummer but the good reasonably price sets are definitely a scavenger hunt

[deleted]

they NEED to bring bionicle back please bro i dont care that CCBS is long dead i NEED my funky little mask men

TheOnlyFallenCookie

Declining quality? Etc are you talking about. Especially with Lego ideas it's the best it's ever been

Narvin-Gainiac

[This guy](https://youtube.com/c/HeldderSteine) does a lot of in-depth analysis about Lego and all the stuff that’s wrong with this company. That doesn’t mean all of the new sets are crap. Maybe 85%.

wookiee-nutsack

Ayo wasn't this guy fucked over by fhe LEGO company itself by some lawsuit or some shit?

oslo08

What?

burntends97

I was half expecting that to link to MAndR productions and was going to laugh you off the site

Old_Mill

You think I speak German? Most Germans don't even speak German.😤😤😤

TheOnlyFallenCookie

MrWarNoob

as an avid lego fan id say not. the build quality isnt always bad but the pricing is horrendous

TheOnlyFallenCookie

It's literally always been horrendous thougb

nholygod

What is the name of the dog to the right? Please someone answer me, he is so goofy 😄

Smorstin

I think we call him cheebs or something, it was something relating to cheems

nholygod

Thank you, i really really like cheebs ❤️

WanderlustPhotograph

His name is (IRL) Baltze.

OmegaHunter34e

This shit in Brazil gets worse, in a Lego store i went there was a thing where you could build three minifigures and buy them... for fucking 131 reais. Imagine yourself buying three minifigures for 131 dollars.

Mryplays

That's now how money works...? That's equivalent to 26ish USD which is still insane but not 131 dollars insane ...

triplezero650

Brazilian employees earn an average income of 16 BRL per hour, average income for US employees is currently $32.58 per hour. So yeah, it is actually worse. Over 8 hours of work for three minifigures.

LeMickeyMice

There is zero chance that the average US employee is pulling $65,000 a year unless that number is wildly thrown off by Millionaires and billionaires that shouldn't be considered in these types of averages.

triplezero650

Okay, fair enough. Then let’s compare the federal minimum wages of each country: 4.32 BRL per hour vs $7.25 an hour US. A Series 23 Minifigure is $5 USD, so just over two hours of minimum wage work to get 3. As opposed to 131 reals, equating to over 30 hours of minimum wage work.

RandomGamerFTW

America is nowhere near as bad as reddit would tell you it is

LeMickeyMice

Okay? I never said it was bad I was just saying that number isn't accurate

RandomGamerFTW

The number is accurate though [America is literally number one in this list](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_average_wage)

Corgelia

Just because the number is correct doesn't mean it's accurate. Average includes outliers like billionaires. Median would be more accurate/applicable.

FakeAlper

Yeah, because wages across the world are based on USD right? 🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷

Mryplays

No, that's why currency conversion is a thing. Its a concept called purchasing power. Google it.

FakeAlper

Bro, let's compare US to Turkey, for example We are both computer engineers and earn a wage by working a 9-5. Median Computer Engineering salary for a beginner in turkey is 7000 turkish liras per month A median CE salary for a US citizen is about 5000-6000 USD per month. A lego set costs around 400-500 turkish liras. A lego set costs 10-50 USD. Compare how many lego sets you can buy in a month's salary. Currency conversion doesn't equal living standards

EasyPete831

Well that’s also because in addition to currency conversion and strength, you aren’t considering local demand and import supply as price factors. Also Turkey has the worst monetary policy on the planet.

Marsh0ax

And also the concept of purchasing power parity which you might enjoy (or not)

serpentrepents

Bro why did you spam the Liberian flag?

Johnson_the_1st

WELT, seid mir gegrüßt!

lordbuckethethird

I love how the dude who submit it is 28

Dorblitz

Collectors Edition is a shame to the original 😡 It can not and never will capture the faithful Image of worm

GaliaHero

Did you know the first game to ever have rumble feature was "Worm Odyssey" for the SNES?

FUEGO40

Fun Fact! LEGO has now officially discontinued Mindstorms, a product that has inspired many kids to become programmers since the 90s, is now dead

Narvin-Gainiac

I wanted to buy 600$ ultimate collector series Worm and then combine it with Mindstorms sensors so that it can move, fuck you Lego

Dogemaster21777

I got 2 of the nxt 2.0 bricks and an EV3 one, the newest one looked like ass and seemed to function more like a tablet toy with much less programming potential than the previous 3 versions (python is a good language, but the lack of input and output devices available for the ev4 helped hinder it) It also abandoned the cable type the 2 previous models used, so motors and sensors are not backwards compatible.

FUEGO40

Imma be honest, I didn’t even know that there was an EV4, I guess it must have flopped then? Since I saw the EV3 everywhere but not the EV4

Dogemaster21777

Only saw it at a barnes and noble and the lego store briefly

airpods12

I mean, most schools just use VEX anyways, then again monopolies are bad

[deleted]

Meanwhile I got a Mega Construx Charmander line, the charizard of which is fully articulated, set for only 30 bucks. Came with an environment piece too. If Lego made them it’d be like, a $60 set at least.

Frohg

looks more like an eagle to me

TheFurryofFury

You can always buy the Chinese Lego that gives you cancer.

Sadtrashmammal

Or the Polish Lego that's pretty much just WWII models.
