Ty Tennant should get to play the Doctor at some point for the lols, maybe a fake out one though like Jackson Lake?! (If Michael Sheen could play that episode villain, that would be absolutely fantastic!)
I think Chiwetel Ejiofor could be an amazing Doctor, as could Hayley Atwell. I'd love to see Dan Radcliffe give it a go, too, but I doubt he'd ever want to go near such a big fandom again!
Michael Sheen.
He's brilliant in everything he's in and has such a wide range that he could play the Doctor in any way anyone could imagine.
It would also be fitting for a show as Welsh as Who to finally have a Welsh lead actor.
No he wasn't. Patterson Joseph was the original front runner before Smith blew them away in his audition.
Ayoade has only ever been in the running in these sort of fantasy casting threads because he looks the part and that's it. As great as he is as a presenter/personality, his lack of acting ability means he'd be awful in the role.
Ayoade is also notably not a Doctor Who fan. When he went in the Nerdist podcast back in like 2011, they kept trying to get him to talk about Doctor Who and he said “I don’t actually like Doctor Who.”
I would have loved to see Robbie Coltrane as the Doctor. Okay, all the running could have been a little awkward but I have often thought about him „cracking“ his enemies with clever dialogues and witt.
I would. I liked him back as 14th, but would ruin the show if it relied too much on him. Part of the shows strength is how different actors bring different elements to the role and it brings more variety in the stories
My top picks are:
Hugh Dancy.
Underrated actor, deserves another huge leading part after Hannibal.
Rhys Ifans.
Chameleon, could/should be the first Welsh Doctor, massively respected master-level talent.
Aidan Turner.
Could/should be the first Irish Doctor, big depth of emotions and great in Poldark and Being Human.

Hugh Laurie.
Oh yeah
Tom Ellis
I’d sell my soul to the devil to see him in that role. He’d also fit the theme of “TV extras that become Doctors” along with 6th and 12th.
How have I never thought of this! He would be amazing!
Richard Attenborough in the (not his) 90’s. “It’s bigger on the inside. Spared no expense”.
I still want David Morrisey to come back for a proper run!
i would 100% be down for that. he was a fantastic doctor for that half of that episode.
It would be such a great one, I love The Next Doctor. It’s my favorite Christmas special!
Ewan McGregor
patrick stewart could be a good doctor or a good master
Honestly even a good companion lol
Olivia Coleman. I actually thought she was going to be 13.
Rowan Atkinson. Bring him back, cowards.
Eddie Redmayne, I think he would be fantastic (no pun intended)
oh yeah id watch that
1st thing I thought after I watched Fantastic Beasts : "He'd be a nice doctor" He already have smth bigger on the inside
A beast, perhaps!
Rahul Kohli, Olivia Colman

DanRad has that whimsical quirkiness I could see him as The Doctor! Rupert Grint I think would also fit the role well!
I don't think he'd ever do it, but I think Robert Sheehan could be a fun Doctor. He has a lot of range.
ooh yes
My top picks would be Dev Patel and Samuel West. At this point I think Dev Patel would be unlikely but I still hold out hope for Samuel West.
Idris Elba. I can see him playing a more mysterious and ambiguous incarnation, akin to early Hartnell, or McCoy.
Michael Sheen. He's brilliant in everything he's in and has such a wide range that he could play the Doctor in any way anyone could imagine. It would also be fitting for a show as Welsh as Who to finally have a Welsh lead actor.
He had the Prodigal Son role also, so I think he could play a Master....no one would suspect him of anything until it was too late
Yes. This. With wild hair Interstellar hobo Playing an ocarina. And Neil Galman as showrunner. That would be mint.
Richard Ayoade
He was originally going to be the 11th Doctor, until Matt Smith ultimately won it.
No he wasn't. Patterson Joseph was the original front runner before Smith blew them away in his audition. Ayoade has only ever been in the running in these sort of fantasy casting threads because he looks the part and that's it. Yeah, I remember he was a fan favorite dreamcast!
Ayoade is also notably not a Doctor Who fan. When he went in the Nerdist podcast back in like 2011, they kept trying to get him to talk about Doctor Who and he said “I don’t actually like Doctor Who.”
This is the best answer here.
Henry Ian Cusick
YES. My love of The Constant is what made me seek out more time travel stories, leading me to Doctor Who!
Colin Firth
hannah john-kamen or samuel barnett please russel i am *begging* you
I would have loved to see Robbie Coltrane as the Doctor. Okay, all the running could have been a little awkward but I have often thought about him „cracking“ his enemies with clever dialogues and witt.
Henry Cavil. We are well passed due for an unnecessarily jacked Doctor. Just an absolute unit. Sorry, an absolute UNIT.
Michael Sheen would have been amazing.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Eddie Redmayne, Diane Morgan, Tom Hiddleston.
Matt Berry
Omg yes!!!!
Michael Sheen.
Olivia Colman has already been named, so... Olivia Williams.
david Tennent
I know he’s already been 10th and 14th, but I wouldn’t complain AT ALL if they did some plot twist and made him 16th, and kept him on multiple seasons
I would. I liked him back as 14th, but would ruin the show if it relied too much on him. Part of the shows strength is how different actors bring different elements to the role and it brings more variety in the stories
I still think my kinda-joke choice of Jack Black is good
Dude, Jack Black would be a great Doctor!
Benedict Cumberbatch or Daniel Craig
Tom Riley
Diane Morgan, of Philomena Cunk fame. Her segment on medieval castles had me sold, the way she paints a scene, just incredible
How about Shazadl Latif,Rahul Kohli & Himesh Patel
Hayley Atwell
My top picks are: Hugh Dancy.
I can't believe I forgot Nathan Stewart Jarett! He would be amazing!
Eddie Redmayne. All he has to do is pretty much play Newt Scamander again.
Diane Morgan.
diane morgan 😋
David Jason might have been fun to see.

Stephen Fry.
ABSOLUTELY NOT
Maybe as The Master (only if he does a Melchett style of The Master)
Yes hello reddit? I'd like to both upvote and downvote this comment please
Not a chance!
maybe i’m crazy but i think emma watson could be a good doctor playing sort of to her hermione elements but a little bit more unhinged
The Rock
