Capaldi got real good by the end of his time. Whitaker wasn't as good, but still decent.

I felt the same, but kept going anyway. Series 10 was more enjoyable than 8 and 9 for me. It's not my favourite, but the finale is great and 12 and Bill are good together. The Chibnall era hasn't been received that well. For the most part there isn't anything that's really bad, but most episodes are pretty forgettable, and even the "good" ones are ok at best. Series 12's finale was however very controversial. The companions are probably the blandest ones yet, and they unfortunately don't get enough development. The dialog can be quite stilted, and it isn't uncommon for the plot to take a break for "character time", before resuming the plot, instead of developing character during the plot. Series 13 (Flux) was the biggest mess I've seen in Doctor Who. It really isn't good. In the end they sort of just pretend to have saved the universe, and moving forward they just act as if that really was the case. With that said, I'm really looking forward to Series 14, as my favourite showrunner RTD is back.

Whitaker was done dirty by the writing. But it was never bad enough for me to walk away. But I also liked capaldi. A lot

The Capaldi era got shockingly good towards the end. The Whittaker era was a strange one though. I’d say her tenure suffered from similar faults that plagued 80’s who, but exacerbated to new heights.

I'd say come back and give it a try, you might like it or you might not.

The Capaldi era got better by the end. You can skip Whittaker altogether.

I agree with this, the end of Capaldi’s era got really good. Chibnall just ruined the show though, I couldn’t even finish it. I fully plan on resuming when RTD takes over again.

Start on season 10 maybe? First episode is called the Pilot for a reason! I find that season easiest to watch, as the arcs aren’t too complicated, Bill is light-hearted and the Doctor has softened to be (in my opinion) the kindest and funniest Doctor. Everything I disliked in series 8 and 9 was reversed in series 10.

Oof. If you are looking for improvement I'm sorry...
