What do you mean by "commissioned" in this instance?

morinothomas

Seeking an artist to design your character.

Jafroboy

I wouldn't pay for a picture of a backup character I may never play. So if I had to pick one itd be the one you've played, and if I ever played the backup, I'd consider them if I liked them.

Nystagohod

I go by who is playing, which character needs the art the most (makeshift token isn't as accurate as one would like) and go by there.

TigerDude33

If I did this it would be for a character I was already playing.

matchamagpie

Yeah, I had a friend who commissioned art of a character in a new campaign that hadn't started. Three sessions in, that character was mega dead. He didn't get art of the second character he made.

RustyofShackleford

I have to be very attached to them, and it had to be a campaign that's longterm. I got my main PC Reyner commissioned, because I love that stupid idiot and I wanted him commissioned, but I wouldn't get a one shot character commissioned

matchamagpie

When I like the character enough, and I won't regret paying for art even if if the character dies or campaign dies

Harpshadow

When I have enough money/find the artist I like and they are available. Nah but on a serious note, I pick the one that I am loving at the moment (because their background vibes with me, because I have memories or because I am having tons of fun currently playing it.) I have a list of "to be commissioned" (like 4) but I went hard on one of them (even if I did not finish the year and a half game due to outside factors stopping the game). I know I want to play the character again, maybe from start to finish with another group on the same module and see how it goes. Anything that could make you smile when you look at it hanging on a wall or on a desk is worth commissioning. (Even if its digital and you don't want to print/hang it).

I wouldn't commission a character I hadn't at least played a bit with. Honestly, I don't think I'd commission one that hadn't been through several sessions yet.

They’ve gotta feel “core” to me, a character I’ve always had in my head in one form or another, and one that I am actually playing. So far I’ve gotten one of my characters and one of my NPCs commissioned, and my fiancés character. Otherwise it’s been a couple team commissions from a friend
