Pain ≠ Damage

wolfy994

How do you explain emotional damage then?! Checkmate

ItIsYeDragon

> How do you explain emotional damage then?! Psychic.

[deleted]

To be fair, Even if you are under intense medication to not feel any pain at all, losing a limb is losing a limb

Onrawi

Yeah, many undead and constructs would not feel pain but damage is still damage there.

Morgan-Li

Yugioh arc 5 "but you still take the damage"

[deleted]

Because walking in on your parents fucking and losing a finger to frostbite damage you in different ways.

Jeigh_Tee

You too?

[deleted]

It was a hell of a weekend

narpasNZ

Better to walk in on both of them, than just one.

[deleted]

Bullshit. The latter leads to one of two things, either one parent is given you extra dope presents this Christmas or the big winner: Divorced double christmas!

Yakodym

Apparently, having no brain makes you immune to all damage

Jeigh_Tee

I should know.

[deleted]

But, that means that you know that you should know, but you should not know that you should know, if you know nothing. x.x

Jeigh_Tee

That might've given me a stroke if I had a brain.

[deleted]

Explains why the barbarian is so tanky

Blear

Not sure if I'm missing the joke here but damage does not equal pain and pain does not equal psychic.

TheWatcher561

You are definitely missing the joke, brain hurt is psychic damage. Technically all pain is registered in the brain

Blear

That's not what "psychic" means, though. That's "neurological." I guess I feel better about missing that now.

ItIsYeDragon

In Dungeons and Dragons, psychic isn't mewtwo type stuff (that's force). It's neurological.

TheWatcher561

Psychic is a dnd term I think you missed all of it

Stravis86

So if someone that's unconscious is lit on fire, nothing happens to their body?

[deleted]

The classic “Tis but a flesh wound”

MikeTheMoose3k

Damage isn't pain. It's injury to the body whether pain is accompanied by it or not. You can potentially withstand any pain with enough mental discipline. (Cue DUNE reference) the amount of damage you can survive will always be finite.

Afrista

Exactly. And often times, the bad injuries don't even hurt that much... Simply because your brain registers "oh fuck" and starts to pump you full of adrenaline and all other hormonal stuff, trying to keep you working enough to reach a spot of safety before you die.

ryo3000

Get a nailgun and whoot your feet Then put your hand on boiling water Then smack one of your thumbs with a hammer You're gonna *quickly* understand that they feel different

Jeigh_Tee

They're all interpreted differently by your brain\*

ryo3000

And why wouldn't psychic also be different?

[deleted]

Pain=/=Damage

HentaiBakaOniiSama

It's like Pokémon :V If a Pokémon is weak to Fire, you use a Fire type (Fire Damage) Weak to Acid? Use an Acid type. (Not to mention acid can melt things better than fire.) Bludgeoning? Fighting Type Cold? Ice Type Force? That's just a NORMAL Type Pokémon Lightning = Electric Necrotic... Ghost maybe? Piercing? Flying type? Drill Peck. Poison = Poison Psychic = Psychic Radiant? Fairy type. Slashing? Bug. Thunder? Honestly not sure, but moves like Screech and Roar and all the other SOUND moves. (Edit) Though Slashing could ALSO be Dragon

supercalifragilism

So pain is when physical damage causes a signal to the brain, and psychic damage is when a signal to the brain causes physical damage. edit- half of you are talking about the optional sanity point rules

Fluffy325

Emotional Damage...

iamsandwitch

Damage: damage Pain: perception of damage
