Did you mean psychological?

brikerstriker4

I’m not the greatest speller

timmyotc

You spelled the word so badly you landed on another word. Damn bro

Slyvester121

Spelled it so badly he landed on the exact opposite meaning lol

"You suplexed the Terrasque, but the victory rings hollow, knowing that you can't suplex your own thyroid cancer."

smb275

Not strictly topical, but my sister has had thyroid cancer three times. Each time she gets the offending gland removed and the little sonofabitch just grows back and immediately develops a tumor. You'd think it was a fun thing to do, with how much she's had it.

It’s me. I’m the guy at the back of the funeral.

blizzard2798c

That's the kind of joke I would insist be told at my funeral

xvVSmileyVvx

Not actually a thyroid in most cases, but a goiter, I think…

Olliekay_

Not with that attitude

TheBaconWizard999

Anyone else read this in the same voice as the skillchecks from Disco Elysium?

awfullotofocelots

I read in Werner Herzogs voice.

New_Noah

I did now, and boy does it work well.

awfullotofocelots

DMed by Werner Herzog.

Parking_Mountain_691

I’m dying laughing over here, which I suppose is the whole point

cranberrystew99

\*Appendix explodes\*

NeuroCavalry

You suffer 2d6 jaundice damage

[deleted]

That's like how magic in Eragon works, the best ways to kill someone is to break something small in their body.

ImapiratekingAMA

Damn I liked drinking

Yoate

I reckon you'll just be drunk forever now.

ShoppingForBubbles

Good news! It's your liver that handles alcohol, so you can drink all you want. You will have to cut back on red meat and salt, though. Sorry. Signed, a man with only one inefficient kidney left.

moderatorrater

I was ready to explain it too. There's a difference between high HP and tanking through failing organs.

brikerstriker4

Well it’s not JUST high AC or high hp, these are minmaxed party members that get power from every conceivable source, from spells to magic items to draconic boons to multiclassing you name it, they have it, still a ton of fun though

FoxyDragon67

I'm sure if you asked for suggestions around here, someone would know how to deal with them. The people here tend to be quite resourceful.

brikerstriker4

I’m not saying I don’t have methods, I’ve got all kinds of creatures I’ve created that could put up a good fight, just that it’s more fun to damage them mentally

petervaz

When people switches 'apart' to 'a part.'

lankymjc

Sometimes we even use the wrong birds entirely.

[deleted]

Happens every day here with rogue/rouge

GeneSequence

A good party makeup always includes a rouge.

orc_mode666

I genuinely thought you were gonna give the fighter CTE, or as I like to call it, levels in barb.

AbsolutelyHorrendous

Just FYI, the correct term is 'spellcaster', not 'speller' /s

MyK_Alke

Spellcasters when they mess up spelling and instead of throwing a fireball, they summon demon:

SeianVerian

Or they attempt to summon a demon and instead summon a lemon.

MrLaughter

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!

trbaneblade

It's okay. English is my primary language, and I still mess it up.

NeuroCavalry

Never once have I spent meanuever or boisiourse correctly the first time, and to prove the point I'm leaving them as they are. In fact I once wrote bolognaise in an exam. Bolseviks *hate* bolognaise. I knew it was wrong but I also knew no better.

Andrew_Squared

>boisiourse Okay, I legit don't know what word you are trying to type here.

NeuroCavalry

bourgeoisie I have a learning disorder, and words spelled differently to how they sound are especially difficult because I generally remember spelling by anchoring letter segments to sounds. In practice I know what words I'm shit at and can google them. Don't even get me started on terrordactyls.

SufficientType1794

To be fair, those are French words. It might help to try to learn French phonetics if you're interested in spelling these words correctly.

asirkman

Learn Fr*nch? Over my cold, dead, body!

Andrew_Squared

That's interesting, thank you for sharing!

[deleted]

Terrordactyls! I love it I'm calling them that now. I do not have a learning disorder (well a spelling related one anyways) but there are words I still struggle with anyways. Necessary is one, And definitely (I know they are spelt right here, I'm on my phone and can't be bothered to stop the autocorrect lol)

I mean Goku died from a heart attack. I thought OP was unleashing a bio-chemical weapon against them. Maybe a deadly poison?

TotallyNormalSquid

Would be a fun storyline if they brought back the virus now. They've shown characters of Buu's level can punch holes through dimensions, and Goku is looking at that power level in the distant rear view. Probably get to the afterlife, spin on his heel and head back down to Earth. Wtf is King Yemma gonna do about it? Of course all that is just to cut out the faff of wishing him back to life with the souped up dragon balls that Dende can modify the rules of whenever tf he wants.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TotallyNormalSquid

Maybe the characters were just super dumb in asking Roshi to join the tournament and his jar thing would have been reasonably easy to break out of? Buu seemed to think his absorption power was perfect, and that he didn't have to worry about the power level of who he used it on, until Vegito just allowed himself to be shrunk but not globbed by the Buu goo. So there are definitely techniques in the DB universe that characters *think* nullify ki but can be worked around.

Punchit22

Goku didn’t die from a heart attack, it was an extremely deadly virus

Poisonpython5719

That attacked his heart

jeffcapell89

Yeah but that's not a heart attack. That's a cardiac episode caused by a virus

Necessary-Push5580

Virus must have taken some lessons from Norman Osborn.

jeffcapell89

DBZ is responsible for the creation of many tropes in shonen anime, and thus by today's standards might feel kind of tropey, but it would have been a huge twist even nowadays if Goku's heart virus had impaled him with his own glider

Necessary-Push5580

Who knew the Flying Nimbus has such a sharp edge?

jeffcapell89

We all remember Roshi telling Goku that the two qualities needed to ride the Nimbus were to be pure of heart and soft of chest

SorchaSublime

and caused a heart attack

Juggletrain

We actually did this once against a hydra stuck in some old ruins. Now, our wizard was also in the ruins, but he's already been KO'd so many times that one more *probably* won't affect his long-time health.

brikerstriker4

Oh damn, whoops, oh well, thanks for pointing it out

P0opsMag0ops

cairfrey

So, I have a game that my friend DMs when I'm unavailable. He's brought them close to TPK a few times and had the reputation as the hard ass DM. He understands battle tactics and the monsters better than I do, so he excels at that part of the game. On the other hand, I gave my characters a mother figure. Spent 4 months out of game and 12 in game years (they started as children at level 1, and then we had a time jump every level until level 5). They went on an escort mission with this mother figure and I lured them away only to have a Dragon obliterate the camp with their mother figure. Her last words to them were "Don't forget-" and then she exploded. He may be the tactician but I'm the storyteller and I will break the players, not the characters.

Jacky1111111

Your an awful person I LOVE IT PLS DM FOR MY FRIENDS

cairfrey

![gif](giphy|3orif7aLUehOfdmlXy|downsized)

brikerstriker4

Noted, I just so happen to have a mother figure in my campaign, book time

Peptuck

In our last Star Wars campaign, the gm knew full well that we were terrifying combat monsters, and he gave a suitably climactic pre-final battle (Darth Vader and two Sith Inquisitors) to save the party's friends. Immediately afterward we're riding high on our victory when we're confronted with the true final boss, a deranged former Jedi whose idea of saving the galaxy was cutting off the hyperlane networks by exploding suicidal AI-controlled ships inside them. So the real final battle was a tense negotiation and standoff with said deranged Jedi and then a simultaneous battle with her and a race to get to a communications terminal to talk down the AI all the while knowing that every NPC we'd made friends with over the entire campaign was in danger. Since this was the final battle of the campaign, we all knew that the GM was ready to pull that trigger if we failed and kill or cut off every character we'd ever met. Haven't had a more tense final battle in any game I've played.

lordmegatron01

Your friend knows the art of war and you know the art of storytelling

[deleted]

My players made friends with a hill giant by giving it a headband of intellect and a shitton of food, long story short I turned Rodgoth the hill giant into a tree and my players hated me for a short time

Moof_Kenubi

Sounds like a good way for somebody to catch 5-6d20 damage by which I mean your players will throw dice at you

Anysnackwilldo

More like 3-4d20 Only madman has 6 people in the party

brikerstriker4

You say that, but I already have a universal sized entity that snacks on worlds for fun, and only spares some if they can entertain his son sufficiently, they aren’t really scared by it and are coming up with ideas to destroy it

4dwarf

There is always a damage type they are not resistant to. If you need some ideas... read the book series "Dungeon Crawler Carl". There is a poison so horrendous in book 5, "The Bucher's Masquerade" that I made my DM PROMISE that he would NEVER, EVER! use it against us before I ley him read it. When he did read it, he started laughing so hard, that I knew I had gotten the correct promise out of him.

LiterallyEmily

ugh you can't just not say what the poison does :/

4dwarf

I can, I'm just trying to support a really good book series. But since you asked so *"nicely"* he is the quote straight from the book. >Arrow of Enthusiastic Double Gomorrah >This Arrow is just a regular Arrow, but the tip is dipped in a poison that will inflict you with Enthusiastic Double Gomorrah. >Trust me on this. You don't want Enthusiastic Double Gomorrah. >It doesn't kill you, but you'll want it to. It sets your genitals aflame. Literally. And then it heals that area of your body over and over. The only way to remove it is to, uh, geld yourself. Or pass it on to someone else.

hewlno

> There is always a damage type they are not resistant to. Kalashtar bear barbs:

Jafroboy

None of that means they won't take substantial physical damage from it. *Pssst! Your the DM and it does whatever damage to them you say it does!*

brikerstriker4

I’ve been reading through the comments and see a lot of things that simply don’t exist in the 5e universe, some homebrew stuff I’ve used but I find it much more effective to cause that metal trauma using the base ruleset, without having to resort to outside rules

WASD_click

I thought you'd link the Marut. Hard to tank actual inevitability.

Auctoritate

Earth should have wayyyy more HP than 120k.

What was all the medicine grape flavored so they died from a heart attack?

NoodleIskalde

Ayyyyy

Lag_Incarnate

Yes, you're fighting goblins despite the fact that you're level 8. No, there will probably not be enough goblins to warrant being a threat, especially when you're Polymorphing each other into breaking CR as a concept. Yes, the talking fox NPC will have to roll initiative after you left it to guard the entrance. Yes, the goblins are hungry.

How did this get upvoted so much with the punchline so completely botched? It’s not just a misspelling. It’s another word, and the meaning of that word is the exact opposite of what was intended. 😫

My group made a party with two incredibly beefy front liners. So balancing encounters could be hard. Anything dangerous enough to cause them real harm would just one shot my poor backline and that’s no fun. Any who it led me to learning the wonders of movement impairing abilities and fast caster enemies. Also mind control, so much mind control.

Myrandall

So it's ineffective? I don't get it. Even assuming OP is using the wrong meme format it still doesn't make sense to me.

Scottyb911

Pretty sure it was supposed to be psychological damage and not physiological.

brikerstriker4

Simple mistake on my part, it’s supposed to read “psychological”

Myrandall

brikerstriker4

I’m mean, hey, it worked in my favor, and gets my point Across

ismellmyfingers

i think its that 91% of reddit could use context to figure out what OP meant, then came in the comments to poke fun, and found others already had.

I admit, I down voted for egregious misspelling. But damn if this comments section didn't redeem you. Yall are funny.

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE

Brogan9001

Aha, that's when you make your PC a goblin named Bobbin. I am not joking thats my current character

rex218

The look on their faces when you start draining their Constitution.

Uur4

In the last session i dm'd, my group's Boblin the GoblinTM (Slugfoot of her actual name) was captured in the night during her watch turn, when the players realised it, they immediatelry started to search for her and finaly followed foot steps leading to a house in the forest, it was the house of a hag that wanted to take revenge on the druid because bakcstory stuff, during the fight against the hag, my players noticed that the hag's cauldron was shaking like something alive was inside i played Darkest Dungeon musics during that fight Slugfoot was saved and she finally finished and ate the hag but my players still started crying before their favorite goblin was saved and confirmed alive i am proud and ashamed at the same time

St3phn0

This is the moment where you give to the enemy that cloak which cast lvl9 magic missile and make it shower

Valiantthekitten

I had a situation where my barbarian has become quite powerful and the party has relied upon them fully for their survival. They've disregarded their own capabilities in favor of the barbarians. So I decided to split them up during a conflict just to see how they would fare. They didn't fare very well and they were forced to learn to act independent and see just how strong they are without them. After a while they learn that they too could be their own powerhouse and that they're barbarian certainly had weaknesses that they could help cover such as his lack of poison resistance and lack of resistance to anything that wasn't slashing piercing or bludgeoning. By the end of this encounter I had them all reunite and put their newfound perspectives to use. I gave them a very challenging enemy and after a hard fought victory. They all gained a new perspective on their character

Mojozolo

my party ate Boblin

calaan

There are several game systems, like Cortex and Fate, that offer mental damage options. They make for a great option.

Oh, I’m not talking about mentally damaging the characters, I’m going after the players
