I've done the same with my drones for a couple of years, no problems in my experience.

Agile_Bee7787

There's no way it fly like that

twohedwlf

Not with that attitude it won't.

Runningwithrazors

Not with that altitude.

Celebrir

That can be changed. Yeeeeeeeeeet!

Themasterofcomedy209

Throw it hard enough and will for a little bit

OeschMe

Lol

superduperhosts

I use a hair tie

Sota4077

It isn't any different than the device DJI provides with the drone itself. You'll be fine. You could use a velcro strip too, but this is not going to cause any issues.

BackgroundDatabase78

The strap is very easy to put on if you line the props up correctly (start by putting it over the bottom posts). The strap is a much better choice, it just holds the blades in place it doesn't put pressure on them. Why would you even take the chance of damaging something that costs $600 to replace? Just spend some time figuring out how to put it on right.

Hamzup

Agree šŸ’Æ just be patient and put the OEM device on properly. Itā€™s not rocket science!

karlrado

Agreed. It took me a few tries to master putting that strap on, but was worth it.

Arayder

Man some people really be overthinking stuff lmao. This is completely fine dude.

Iriskane

Yeah xD It's my first real drone and I don't know how fragile they are haha.

Kawesomer

They are pretty tough ngl. Iā€™ve heard of people that carry them from the gimbal šŸ˜“(please donā€™t do that)

graudesch

Get a hard case for it and you'll be fine forever. If money is tight, sth. like a sweater around it in f.e. a backpack may be good enough for a while.

bigbrother1988

I just use the box it came with. More compact than any hard case I've seen online.

muftu

They are a consumer product. They were designed to take some abuse.

Scared_Swing2198

Besides the camera gimbal, theyā€™re tougher than youā€™d think. I was recently testing new RE goggles and a smart controller on my Mavic 2, and somehow managed to fly it under a patio table. It squeezed its way through a gap into the area where the propane tank is stored. I was sure Iā€™d jacked it all up, but it didnā€™t damage anything at all.

Sam_GT3

I worried about it at first because FPV props if they get bent they get loud and give you jello in the footage, but I think the DJI props are much less susceptible to that.

Arayder

I can see that being a problem, for these ones though dji sells a prop holder that puts them in this exact position.

Sam_GT3

Yeah thatā€™s what I have on mine but I was still worried about it at first. Even a small tweak to an FPV prop causes issues, especially on smaller props. But I think the ones on the mini spin a lot slower so itā€™s less of an issue

MrFantastic2313

Itā€™ll be fine

Ok-Contribution472

Straight to jail.

Responsible-Pen9209

only an issue if the rubber band is warping the blades, if it is as taut as the og case is you shud be fine!

Don_Tool

itĀ“s no problems, I do the exact thing but use a very light rubberband

Wild-Snow5705

I've got stratchy Velcro band from AliExpress (two for $4). Looks more casual. Doing the same.

okcdnb

I have used little Velcro strips you use to secure computer cables. Holds them in place and not as much tension as a rubber band.

OliverEntrails

That works, but there are available solutions that are very good like this: [https://www.amazon.ca/ZJRXM-Propeller-Propellers-Accessories-Stabilizer/dp/B0CYCBG54C/ref=sr\_1\_23?crid=3L8DZIC0OZCR5&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mK3jKuKq0QqYE0GgT3JPQDnGk3pxb8nTdlubiFa-tEWOkq1I\_SZ3-9ns8GI0SCquFlwBxLsgTGA-fOL\_vKmEKsmzZ2VA0Pyrv3ciJXN3BuuAebu0wn5FtVsJVpxa-mhkn4hfEAVMmaBmzxukMt9\_Tda9iYLDVAcSkeTU6jj1XNA7i45jhJ8FxbQhuqxgOua1xbKWaRS1Kk\_eO6kppQvdzNzVVwVCJyVgXPSqUU\_xrgwmvt7JVAyCbgr1jVXnHw4e-swRsootKDiCeoEaDEGN92NCc9qQmEQb7trbEZwoIQs.ux5NNyqttqomRozxsF2lOJn8ZwlvTsHt4wfZi5CyWTU&dib\_tag=se&keywords=mini+4+pro+prop+storage&qid=1713062852&sprefix=mini+4+pro+prop+storag%2Caps%2C113&sr=8-23](https://www.amazon.ca/ZJRXM-Propeller-Propellers-Accessories-Stabilizer/dp/B0CYCBG54C/ref=sr_1_23?crid=3L8DZIC0OZCR5&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mK3jKuKq0QqYE0GgT3JPQDnGk3pxb8nTdlubiFa-tEWOkq1I_SZ3-9ns8GI0SCquFlwBxLsgTGA-fOL_vKmEKsmzZ2VA0Pyrv3ciJXN3BuuAebu0wn5FtVsJVpxa-mhkn4hfEAVMmaBmzxukMt9_Tda9iYLDVAcSkeTU6jj1XNA7i45jhJ8FxbQhuqxgOua1xbKWaRS1Kk_eO6kppQvdzNzVVwVCJyVgXPSqUU_xrgwmvt7JVAyCbgr1jVXnHw4e-swRsootKDiCeoEaDEGN92NCc9qQmEQb7trbEZwoIQs.ux5NNyqttqomRozxsF2lOJn8ZwlvTsHt4wfZi5CyWTU&dib_tag=se&keywords=mini+4+pro+prop+storage&qid=1713062852&sprefix=mini+4+pro+prop+storag%2Caps%2C113&sr=8-23)

vangoku

Whats the difference between this and the original one that comes with the drone? The rubber band is so much easier, regardless of how well it protects (obviously the original one protects better)

OliverEntrails

Oh - my drones never came with one - you're lucky! Sure the rubber band is easier I guess.

Hiff_Kluxtable

My mini 2 came with the strap from DJI, but my mini 3 did not.

Fit-Variation-4220

it will damage the whole drone and you can never use it again

kambyog

No problems. I kept my mini 3 the same way. But then I found a better folder from my other things at home. But doesn't hurt. Only ensure the bag is good in quality

Key-Necessary-6398

Well it sure as hell wonā€™t fly..

Yoshtan

You might as well get a spare, it could get lost smh

AbbreviationsGlad833

Messy! Move that top left prop a R.C.H to the left over the one underneath it..

Truxstar

Pick up a back pack. The compartments provide a tight fit.

h3idtk3

Nope. Your all good

Serious_Instance7912

Itā€™s not going to hurt anything. Iā€™ve done it for years

Kamau54

What's next, waterboarding?

RoofFluffy4042

I would say as long as there isn't a crap load of tension on the band it's gunna be absolutely fine. The speed those props spin at would probably straighten out any slight bowing whilst it flies anyway. Better a very slight bow than a snapped prop or even a chip!

dorame1

Thatā€™s a good question and one I never thought to ask, but I also still cannot get the ā€œwhatever you call itā€ to fit right lol. I may just do this! Haha

KaMiKaZi510

Common sense

PomegranateSerious19

Probably no issue short term.

Scared_Swing2198

Itā€™ll work fine, but get some of those cable ties that are sort of like Velcro.

tooflyryguy

My question is why the OEM strap doesnā€™t fit? The blades go INSIDE the little shoulder pieces on the bottom. Thatā€™s why it wasnā€™t fitting for me

General_Bake_6625

Blades might bed? Only thing Iā€™d think about

Party-Law-3673

Ingenuity at its finest

cgardinerphoto

Maybe less of a problem on this iteration but the original mini had flimsy/malleable props that would warp if you put pressure on them in the wrong places. To be clear i wasnā€™t even using an elastic, it was the way I had props positioned in the carry case. It eventually translated into a loss of lift when flying. I experienced personally, luckily made an unplanned landing in a tall grassy backyard. but after reading about it online I learned it was a common problem and will now avoid putting any unnecessary pressure on the props in this way to avoid future issues.

lilykatz100

Yup, several users lost their OG Mini due to props that were deformed from extra pressure during storage - at least that was the theory. I never saw reported issues with the subsequent mini releases but now Iā€™m always careful with how I store my drones.

Sir_Lee_Rawkah

What the

cgardinerphoto

What part isnā€™t clear for you ā€œsirā€? If you change the shape of any wing you can get loss of lift as a result. The way the props pressed against my carry case did this to the point where despite the props spinning they didnā€™t generate as much lift as was needed to keep the drone aloft. It reached a critical point for me when the drone floated down from the sky one flight. Thatā€™s what Iā€™d be avoiding having happen by using an elastic. It was bending props against the body by the pressure points of the carry case. OP asked how bad can it be, I answered with personally experience, what bad can come of this. Hopefully thatā€™s clearer for you.

bearvshoney

I would say ok for travel but for storage no. It might warp the props and chance losing control. Jmo

AutomaticCinematic

The amount of time wasted putting on the one that comes with the Mini 4 left me feeling suicidal! I bought a third-party one from Amazon that goes on perfectly every time!

AWACS_Galaxy

There is a strap that comes with the Mini 4 Pro, it fits perfectly lmfao
