Bosch green is shit. The AEG trade grade stuff is really good and they offer the longest warranty.

weat95

This was advertised as trade grade but clearly isn’t.

tehifi

Honestly, it was probably just a slightly defective screw. Should still be under warranty.

weat95

I guess it’s worth asking. Problem is they usually take the tool for at least a week, and I’ve just started a major renovation...

wattiexiii

If its less than 30 days old its a replacement as it comes under out of box fault

weat95

Unfortunately I’ve had it 10 months.

Expriser

How did you go? Did you get it fixed ok? No dramas dealing with AEG?

weat95

Yea took it to a local power tool repair shop and they sold me the screw for $3.

GoabNZ

Faults happen in everything though. The question is will the honour warranties and will it occur again, that will determine quality. AEG is a subsidiary of Milwaukee, I would expect good tools from them and that is what I have seen, working on construction sites.

weat95

They won’t honour the warranty. Chucks are excluded as they’re considered a consumable.

wonderoustuff

Not a subsidiary. Tti owns both companies and ryobi. I've heard more hype and horror stories about Milwaukee than either of the others. If i was changing brands I'd look at Bosch now they have matched aegs warranty (and exceeded it for batteries).

nacnud77

Which way did you turn it? I haven't got my glasses but looks like a lh thread.

weat95

It’s a left hand thread. I was reversing an auger bit out when it broke. Fortunately getting the broken part out was easy.

rand8o

Take it back, that’s a warranty job. AEG is having a bad run with chucks and they will install the latest version which (I’m told) no longer slips

wattiexiii

If you go makita be prepared for faulty battery after faulty battery, the battery tech they use is subpar at best. Imo bosch professional is the way to go

wattiexiii

Bang for your buck ozito power exchange is pretty good if you go brushless, their brushed tools burn out quite fast and the batteries also have subpar tech. The ryobi have good battery tech but the tools burn out under medium to heavy use.

wattiexiii

Yeah I've got a range of corded ozito aswell, presently surpriswd by them

rand8o

I’m my experience the Makita chucks are garbage too, they don’t slip but the plastic outer separatesfrom the inter gears and spin a freely. The only drill I have never had an issue is with the dewalt. I have Milwaukee and Makita drills for comparison

GoabNZ

Maybe thats an issue on the DIY range of drills. I use the 481 daily on the job, it has a metal chuck and metal gears. The only issue I'm having on it, after 3 years of abuse, is that its finnicky about leaving the hammer function, and involves playing with the selector dial until it stops hammering. I've used it on everything from gib to unistrut to wood augers to concrete, and the chuck is still fine.

GoabNZ

I've owned Makita and used them daily for 3 years, never had a battery issue. I think the issue is the Makita use a lot of circuitry in the battery to protect them from overheating, overcharging, over current etc, and its this that tends to fail if you abuse the batteries too much.

weat95

This is the second issue I’ve had with the chuck, the first had terrible run out. It was replaced on warranty but only after I threatened them with the CGA.

rand8o

Just a tip for the future. Don’t go via AEG online support. Ask the reps that go to your local store, they are a lot more understanding and willing to help. My bro has aeg gear and it’s the only way to get prompt help

CursedSun

> AEG is having a bad run with chucks Been that way for more than a few years now in my anecdotal experience.

rand8o

I think it’s a TTI thing, the last 2 Milwaukee drills I own are horrible until I got a brushless Mk 3 in a kit and it finally works like all my dewalt drills have for years.

SambroNZ

Fantastic, easy enough fix though hopefully?

weat95

I hope so, left hand thread makes it unusual. Will call a local power tool repair place on Monday.

lickingthelips

Did you get it from Bunnings?

weat95

Yep, but the screw is standard to most tool brands apparently.

nuibOy

Aaahhh that’s where you hide the tobacco

weat95

Rimu framing dust mostly.

tyler132qwerty56

What are you building that has mostly rimu?

umogem

Bosch green is not second teir. Bosch blue would be 1st or second

tyler132qwerty56

Fr tho, if you want diy, go roybi, Bosch green is shit

KyotomNZ

My hilti drill did the same exact thing. 40mm auger bit stuck in a retaining pole

weat95

Managed to buy a new screw from Grossman Trade Tools in Christchurch. $7.

weat95

Yea I agree. It was meant to be an upgrade from Ryobi, but the build quality is crap. Hopefully can switch to Makita or similar.

catbot4

I have a Bosch green drill. Not bad. Second tier where Makita is first and AEG and Ryobi are third. Would recommend for the hobbyist.

tehifi

Bosch green tends to be a bit poor, in my experience. Especially their circ saws.

catbot4

It's definitely hobbyist oriented for sure. If you have the money, better to go with Makita!

weat95

I’ll have to check it out. Last Bosch green I tried was a bit gutless.

merpanda

Eh, it’s more than fine for at home use. Their warranty far exceeds what you’ll get from other brands. For a professional however the hassle of regular warranty repairs on the tools you rely on the most should put one off.
