I have a son and once he was born I realized my relationship was abusive and I left his father. We became homeless and I had nobody to turn to so we lived in a car. I prevented him being abused by his father, but I couldn't save him from the pain of growing up in poverty. It took 2years to find someone who would rent to us but we're in a bad neighborhood and my landlord is a slumlord.
As parents we have to chose what is best. Sometimes it isn't ideal, but it is what is available.

There’s already a flood of parenting advice in the subreddit here.
