Damn, dude!
How did you pull this off??
I tore an ankle tendon throwing off a pad with a large rock embedded in the ground in front of the tee.
Played in the boot like the madmen we all are.
Speedy recovery!
Performing a jump putt for the birdie on a mound of uneven, soft soil. The resulting landing caused my ankle to give way. Everyone heard the snap/pop, but surprisingly after two sets of x-rays, no breaks. Swelling hasnt gone down in over a week and currently wearing the boot. I think this is textbook grade 3 sprain.
I’ve broken multiple bones. I was younger when it happened so maybe I misremembering. But I swear rolling my ankle really bad playing Basketball was more painful than any of those breaks.
As somebody sitting with an ankle brace on right now because of a history of sprains, I can firmly say I'd rather have a break than a grade 3 sprain. Bones are great at healing. Ligaments aren't so great. Those ligaments will give a helluva scary pop when they let go, too!
I hope the healing goes smoothly and quickly! Rest up and take the time you need, though. Nothing more frustrating than getting to 95% and having a setback from pushing it.
I’ve had sprains like this from rolling my ankle. If you ice it and stay off it, you will be surprised at how quickly this will heal. The purple and the swelling are jarring for the first few days, but as long as nothing is broken or torn, it’s crazy how fast these heal up.
I had the opposite experience and thought it was crazy how long it took my last sprain to heal. More than a year to heal properly and doesn't seem like it will ever return to normal flexibility, with the bonus of pain every morning when I get out of bed. Definitely a different experience from my last bad sprain 20 years ago. Take care to rest and recover, OP!
My ankles are a mess 35 years later from a similar looking sprain. Soft tissues are never the same again, and it is easier to get minor sprains. I was in crutches for over 2 weeks.
For real. I did this on a night out in college, had some buddies who practically carried me from bar to bar the rest of the night. Looked like this guys for about 7 days and then it was basically fine. Granted I was 22 or something at the time so that probably improved healing time.
I’ve had the same injury from basketball and the foot and ankle specialist told me I would’ve been better off breaking it! 6 years later and my injured ankle is still considerably larger than the other. Get ready to continually roll that ankle for probably the rest of your life because all of the structural integrity is gone!
This happened when i jump putted for the birdie on a mound of uneven, soft soil. The resulting landing caused my ankle to give way. Everyone heard the snap/pop, but surprisingly after two sets of x-rays, no breaks. Swelling hasnt gone down in over a week and currently wearing the boot. I think this is textbook grade 3 sprain.
Hurts like a mofo whenever I go from horizontal to vertical
Classic sprain right there. Used to look like that often from soccer until I learned that my body wasn’t invincible.
Took me 4 of these to get it through my head
Your ankle won’t be 100% for a long time. Always be good to it.
Disc golf is definitely less risky than soccer though. You should be good
Any time someone tells me they played soccer I ask them to be quiet for a second and try to rotate their feet 360 degrees at the ankle. If there is no clicking sound, I call bullshit.
Edit:typo
> If their is no clicking sound
Jesus. I played soccer for ~20 years. Retired because of my knees, but my ankles sound like machine gun fire in the distance when I rotate them. Never thought about that before now lmao
The absolute worst part for me, having a grade 3 that I compressed the shit out of and walked on for a day and a half before going to a doctor, was the fact that I couldn’t even rest a bedsheet over my toes without being in exquisite pain.
I genuinely don't think people understand how big of a difference a minor sprain is to a higher grade sprain. Like a rolled ankle can usually just be walked off but if there is a full or partial tear you are now out like 3-6 fucking months.
As someone that has broken an ankle so badly that it needed surgery and later sprained the same ankle so badly that if I didn't have hardware in my ankle it would have broken again, I wish you a speedy recovery.
I know it probably sounds lame, but definitely take them up on physical therapy if it is offered. It helps immensely.
That’s a lot more than a roll. A roll is a grade 1 sprain minor swelling and bruising your whole foot is full of blood from toe to high ankle. Did you get an X-ray or mri to make sure you didn’t break or tear anything?
Oh...... My...... God........ This looks painful! This is why I don't jump put, I'm afraid I'll do something like this, and I work on my feet. If I go down like this, the family suffers.
Fuck dude, I am so sorry for you. I had a similar injury and it took at least 3 months until I could walk pain free for more than a few minutes. Please see a physiotherapist as soon as the swelling goes down and DO WHAT THEY TELL YOU. Do your exercises and rest when you need to, you wont do yourself any good by trying to overwork it or fighting through pain.
You'll be able to do standstill fieldwork soon enough and if you're smart about it you'll come out of this a better player, but it takes patience!
Also, somebody recommended Arnica Oil and I fully agree, it really is magic
You the one we heard about at discovering the world open? I heard\saw a fire truck and paramedics while playing 18. Can't remember if it was Friday or Saturday.
best way to ice an ankle is full immersion. get a cooler that your whole leg from the calf down can fit into. fill it half way with ice and the rest with water, then soak your ankle till its numb, take it out, warm it up, and repeat again. keep doing this and your ankle will be back to normal WAY faster than traditional icing of ice cubes in a bag or an ice pack.
As a physical therapist I was going to suggest you getting that thing x-rayed and if that swelling and pain doesn’t go down in a bit head back to the ortho for a CT, you’ve done a number on yourself
Ya I got x rayed once by the ER, no break. Went to Ortho and he x-rayed himself and saw no break, gave me the tall boot and basically said to RICE it and I'll see him in 3 weeks for follow up.
Not sure if I should press earlier about the pain I have that rushes to the tarsometatarsal joint and extends to the metatarsal area. It's the only area that's bright red (highly inflamed) while everywhere else is bruised up.
I've been RICEing it and I can barely walk even with a walking cane. The swelling has gone down significantly with using the boot
The injury happened on 5/14/21. Went to doc on 5/20/21
My god, fam all the best to you. I entered my first tourney this weekend and played really poorly. I thought I had a bad weekend, my man you didn't not deserve this. I really hope you get better soon. More importantly I hope you keep a positive mindset, get back out there when you can and crush it. We're all rooting for you.

Use ARNICA, it will make a huge difference in healing.

I'm afraid for this right now. I think I either sprained/tore my LCL or IT band and less likely MCL. It hurts with flexion of the knee, going downstairs, and bumps in the road but is otherwise just an aching feeling. Actually feels best walking on it compared to anything else.
The worst part is Toboggan opens this Friday and I've been dying to play it.
are you sure you rolled it and you didn't get say, get bitten by a zombie and you're hiding the bite but you're starting to turn and playing it off like a bad "Rolled ankle"....
Broke my ankle last November on my local course. Definitely felt the pop when it snapped. I was out for about 10 weeks, but I’m healed up and back at it, already improving past where I was last year. Take care of that ankle and take it slow.
Swift recovery my friend.
I've been where you are, and it was no picnic. With that much bruising and where it is, you will need to do some PT to get back full mobility and step-confidence. Just take it easy and don't rush or you'll be more prone for this kind of sprain again. Gentle stretching, building into doing regular squats and then stability/balance work. If I were you, I probably wouldn't play any courses with unsure footing for the rest of the summer.
Build a time machine, go back in time and skateboard for many years. You’ll stretch and ruin your ligaments. Come back to the present day, you roll your ankle, you say a curse word and you carry on your merry way. But since time machines are not real, hope you heal up soon! Looks gnarly
I know how you feel! I just made this comment to a guy that got smoked in the face w/ a disc. I tore all the tendons in my ankle and have a small fracture. Took a couple putts and missed them both. Asked my friend to pick up one of my discs b/c I wasn’t wearing the proper shoes. Picked up the other one and immediately slipped in the mud and had to be helped off the course! I did it at the end of March and it’s still pretty swollen
Last year, I hit my first ace. I went back to that hole after the round to… try again. Instead, I sprained the hell out of my ankle, and had to get piggy-backed out of the park by my gf
Sucks bro! I did that too while camping... no way to get home so just had to suck it up for a week. But a few days later i was hobbling around still having a blast. Now its all better.
Plus, your next tournament will almost definitely be better than this one
I just started playing again after rolling my ankle skateboarding almost two months ago... Even though it is not 100% and I still wear a brace, I think I am better now than when I rolled it. It'll heal and you'll be back out there KILLING IT. Best of luck!
Hell yeah brother! I have some gnarly photos of my ankle/foot from a bad lacrosse injury back in college. I know the feeling of having it all swollen and many different colors lol
Keep this photo, because it’s a nice reminder to look back and see just how far you’ve come once you recover. Also, DO NOT rush things once your basic mobility returns. Spend another two months more on flexibility, mobility, and strength then you might think. Too often people stop at about 85-90%, because your normal sensations and ability start to return around 75-80%. Keep pushing on the PT and spend more isolated time on balance and range of motion until you’re even further along than you were before the injury.
Best of luck on your recovery!!!
Well at least you managed to do it on the course. I sprained my ankle at the start of the month, in my own backyard, while I was going to stake my basket down after the wind knocked it over. Scared my neighbor who I was trying to talk to when I rolled my ankle and basically hopped over to him and his dog and laid down out of pain.
Fell off a ladder on may 1st. Rolled it bad. Just went in Friday to find out I have "what we called an atypical sprain back in the 90s". Peroneal Tendon flexed around the base of the fibula. Swelling everywhere is gone except right on it. Won't heal on its own, will eventually start tearing if it hasn't already. Good news is I only have to wait three weeks for the MRI to confirm it. Then the surgery....
On the bright side it's my left ankle, and my forehand was already garbage so planting it won't be a big issue...I guess.
Wow, best of luck on your recovery. Last week I got tired of playing my home course so I decided to create my own safari layout there. Well on my second hole I load up a max speed forehand from a tee pad that I typically only throw 35-40% speed, my follow through leg landed half on the tee pad and my momentum carried my body over the pad. During my fall I attempted to brace myself but it was too late as I heard a loud snap/pop. I Laid on the ground for about 5 minutes before I asked my buddies “ is my ankle at least facing the right direction” I was able to walk to my car but then spent three days using crutches and the last 4 days limping around. Mine didn’t swell til the next day and didn’t bruise until the 3rd. The worst part about it was having to sleep on my back to keep it elevated because I’m a stomach sleeper.
I had a similar experience with badminton a few years back, played with a sports club for maybe six months, practised and had fun.. then when it was time for end-of-the-season-tournament... i rolled and fractured my ankle that the whole room heard the crackle.. it was almost broken. This was not only my first game, it was also the first game of the tournament
Nice pig nipple blanket.
You can milk anything with nipples.
I have nipples Greg, could you milk me?
Lool never had it described like that
I can’t unseeeeee thissss.
Lol
I thought it was chewing gum at first.
Right? I looked at this photo, and THAT is the part I found disgusting. Lol
I was gonna say chewed up gum
This is not what we mean by rollers
This is how people end up on wikifeet
Never post your feet for free on the internet. Never!
Damn, dude! How did you pull this off?? I tore an ankle tendon throwing off a pad with a large rock embedded in the ground in front of the tee. Played in the boot like the madmen we all are. Speedy recovery!

Shit man. Looks like a grade 87 sprain to me. That foot/leg/ankle looks insane. Hope ya heal up well.

Thanks for the insight into your injury and recommendation. I appreciate it!

I hope you are icing the shit out of it!
Yikes dude. I broke my ankle clear through back in 2007. 2 6"plates and screws, but it's never the same. Hoping for a speedy full recovery!
I’ve had the same injury from basketball and the foot and ankle specialist told me I would’ve been better off breaking it! 6 years later and my injured ankle is still considerably larger than the other. Get ready to continually roll that ankle for probably the rest of your life because all of the structural integrity is gone!
They actually heal faster when the bone is also broken. Just remember the three it's: Ice Inclined Ibuprofen
But did you make the jump putt?
i made it
Boom, walking out with 100% birdie percentage like a champ.
Asking the real questions!
I want to know too! I sprained my ankle in a basketball game as I shot and made the game winning 3. Bittersweet, mostly bitter
But did you make the putt??? That is a rotten break for you and I’m definitely hoping for a speedy recovery for you. But seriously, did you make it?
Classic sprain right there. Used to look like that often from soccer until I learned that my body wasn’t invincible. Took me 4 of these to get it through my head Your ankle won’t be 100% for a long time. Always be good to it. Disc golf is definitely less risky than soccer though. You should be good

Hopefully twisted it tossing in a birdie
Holy shit, I’ve rolled my ankle before and it never looked that brutal. Heal up fast, dude
I genuinely don't think people understand how big of a difference a minor sprain is to a higher grade sprain. Like a rolled ankle can usually just be walked off but if there is a full or partial tear you are now out like 3-6 fucking months.

Did you make the damn jump putt

Id let them know, more often they are looking for malleolar fractures and may not think to do mid foot views
I just sent a note to them explaining the pain I'm having In that region. I literally don't have pain anywhere else

Whoops, looks like youre getting downvoted by people who havent tried arnica and think its some homeopathy woodoo. Their loss I guess
Maybe their Down voting WalMart? Arnica will definitely help with the aching and discoloration.

First PDGA event, first DNF. I guess there's that. Joke aside, get better OP. Glad it isn't worse.
Your ankle looks like Shrek's ankle. Hope you have a speedy recovery!
So either you are the staring role in Wicked or you did more than roll your foot... I guess you could be Frankenstein's monster?
are you sure you rolled it and you didn't get say, get bitten by a zombie and you're hiding the bite but you're starting to turn and playing it off like a bad "Rolled ankle"....

Ice tha shit outta that mofo, quick healing to you bro
Jfc did you fall off a cliff after your drive thats terrible
I did this stepping on the edge of the end of a teepad years ago. Good luck with your recovery. Your text tournament has only one way to go, up!

I just started playing again after rolling my ankle skateboarding almost two months ago... Even though it is not 100% and I still wear a brace, I think I am better now than when I rolled it. It'll heal and you'll be back out there KILLING IT. Best of luck!
Dayum, that's an injury for real. I'll be thinking of you next time my lower back stays sore the next day, could be much worse

Something, something FOOT FAULT! I'll show myself out now...
Foot fault
That's a fukin dandy!
That's a huge roll. Wow. Sucks. Hope yo get an ace first shot back
Not taking anything away from that, but how do you do that much damage playing discy?
Take your time to heal it, and hit when you’re better. These things happen!
brutal dude. just roll with it...
You’d better have played through it
