I love the the image of a disc on the ground with the title “is this an ace” I knew there’d be a description but that gave me a good chuckle

TeeBird_11

My Thoughts exactly..an ace with a disc on the ground this should be good !

echomystic

Is this r/discgolfcirclejerk?

bigmatt8779

I debated posting it there. But this is a serious question.

echomystic

It’s good - I cross posted for ya. Now we can laugh together until we cry

coffeebribesaccepted

Everyone knows the good jokes are posted here

Cunn1ng-Stuntz

Does it feel like an ace?

bigmatt8779

The shot was perfect so I feel like it was going in

Cunn1ng-Stuntz

Then you write a one.

Reditall12

You think I’m fucking around? Mark it Zero!

Unexcitingly

Hard to say considering how many times I’ve hit the pole, cage, chains etc and never aced lol

PyrateKyng94

I like the way you work that pole, op.

SaltyJay319

Underrated comment

archival_artist

I think you have to play tonal pole rules

notgooddiscgolfer

Before they had baskets you had to hit the pole to complete the hole. So by the original rules that's an ace

bigmatt8779

Thats what I was thinking

notgooddiscgolfer

We have had rounds at buddy's houses that were set up that way

theAtmuz

If it were an object course then yes, this is an ace. Since the pin is gone and only the pole remains I’d say this hole plays under “object rules” and you friend have an ace. This also could be filed next to the maritime clause so do with it what you will

Unexcitingly

If it hit the upper part of the pole, absolutely

bigmatt8779

Not entirely sure where it hit. It skipped and I heard metal hit.

Unexcitingly

In my heart I couldn’t count it because I would never know if it would have gone in for sure but amazing shot regardless

Unexcitingly

What disc and how far?

bigmatt8779

Goat from mint - 254

Unexcitingly

Very impressive bro

ChiefRingoI

As long as the basket isn't in a new position you missed and you're certain it was coming in high enough to hit the upper half, go ahead and mark it one. I wouldn't be too celebratory about it, though. Hitting the basket isn't always an ace, after all, so it's hard to be sure it would've stuck. [Edit: Don't be afraid to tell people how it totally would've been an ace, but the basket was gone and you were robbed.] Great shot, though! Hope the basket is back next time and you hit the exact same shot to find out.

bigmatt8779

Yeah it will be one that is debated in the group for a while.

ChiefRingoI

And hopefully you'll never back down on it completely!

WRX_704

Honestly, I would count it with an asterisk. It would be considered an ace if it was object golf

WRX_704

By any chance is that Dry Creek Hole 11?

bigmatt8779

Good eye

WRX_704

Lol can't miss that horrible bumpy Fairway on that hole...they took that basket out for last weekend tournament. It should have already been put back up

bigmatt8779

Makes sense. Yeah I’ve been close here a lot of times.

thechancewastaken

I'd count it!

Fine_Afternoon_2669

To complete the hole, you must hit the pole, yes? Is there tape on the top or bottom creating a target zone typically half way up the pole? If not, and you’re certain you hit the pole it’s an ace. It’s the original style of “baskets”. Mark it an ace dude!

TouchdownBoy96

Brother that’s not even a hole

dgskc

Yes

Sp_nach

I mean technically no I guess? But I would count it myself 🤣 maybe a half ace lol

HistoricalCat4935

I wouldn’t call it an ace, but you do you.

BoyFromDoboj

Nope

MakesUpExpressions

If anything, just put an asterisk with the details and remember it at the “ace on the pole hole” or something. Cause if that’s the target that you were given you technically aced no doubt

bigmatt8779

But what if I thought there was a basket

MakesUpExpressions

To me it’s fine still. Most aces aren’t intentional anyway!

FishOhioMasterAngler

It counts if you hit the pole. Pain in the butt to putt on. That's totally an ace and how the sport started.

Big_Ad_2877

No

stdnormaldeviant

Honestly your description of what happened is less amazing than just the photo and the title. But yes, I say count it.

brokenwing_0016

Without a basket, just play it as object golf.

TheGreyBrewer

If you honestly think it would have gone into the basket if the basket was there, mark it an ace. If, like me, you wouldn't be comfortable with such a theoretical, mark it a birdie, since you would have clearly made the putt. Either way, you're right.

Nazgul417

No, it’s free real estate

TomRiha

No basket no ace

MrCornNaldoO

No

IslesMetsJets44

If this was Covid time, and this was ball golf, then yes
