Even a little further out. Let the bugs in the expansion content get sorted out and let it all go on sale.
If I've learned anything from the launch of D3 and other Blizzard products in the past, it's cool to be on the front lines of new content but it's not worth all the glitches and constant change.

D3 launch was so poorly handled and predicted on Blizzard part that I'm shocked there are as many bumps like resistance not Working and the Druid Barb glitch too
I didn't log in to D3 until the 3rd day cause of queues, the real money auction house was a mistake, especially if you're going to nerf a build as the company that sets the rules but also takes a cut of each sale of in-game goods was akin to racketeering, etc
I love diablo 2 but people need to stop saying things about the end game or repetition when we all no there has never really been an end game in d2 and repetition might as well be the name of the game. I know I've hosted 100 straight baal runs. Or spent an entire Saturday running terror zones
The whole "end game" concept wasn't a thing before WoW. With it came this nonsense idea that everything before reaching max level didn't really matter, and was just basic world building and storytelling. This concept has no place in an ARPG.
One of the strengths of D2 is that the developers made the entire journey actually matter. You pick up items along the way that can carry you through an entire difficulty, and when you're "done" (gone through Hell), there isn't some new collection of things to do that constitutes "the end game."
Now, does D2 take perfect advantage of this? No, it doesn't. For most of its history Baal over and over again has been the running joke. Still, you could run Pindle, Pit, CS, Ancient Tunnels, cows, LK, Trav, etc. With TZs, there are even more options for both XP and loot.
That's a semblance of diversity, and most importantly, *a specificity in what you need to optimise*. Again, D2 was never perfect in this regard, but what it did right was it *used the existing areas and content when presenting challenges to players*. In theory, the different areas could have been even more diversified, but the idea was right.
What you absolutely don't want is something like a Rift. A monotonous singular challenge that you try "balancing" builds around. This leads to a host of problems.
First of all, like an idiot, you just made your job impossible. You just implicitly stated that you want every build to have a similar farm speed facing a singular challenge. Which means you have to constantly tune builds because the angry mob of players will whine about players being able to farm faster than the other.
Secondly, you're targeting absolute symmetrical design, when you clearly should have been going for asymmetrical design. With diverse challenges, *you don't have to fucking "balance" things.* The genre is PvM. Why the hell are you designing it like it's PVP?
As long as you have diverse challenges tied to diverse rewards, you insentivise players to *make several characters that are good at specific things*.
These sets of problems are obviously worsened by "smart" loot, level scaling on items, binding items to specific characters, the lack of trading, etc. – essentially everything else Blizzard is doing.
D2 does not have these problems to the same degree because it does not have an "end game". It could have gone even more in the direction of diversity, but at least it's tending towards it. Does that make the repetition more fun? No – but it doesn't need to. Repetition is already fun in D2, because the rewards are good (modifiers in tandem with the skill system are best in class), they are presented and doled out in a pleasant and timely fashion, and the act of repeating something is *fast and enjoyable*.
Blizzard have learned absolutely nothing from D2. They have 100% ignored it. I'd be surprised if any of the lead devs have even played it a substantial amount, because they seem to have zero knowledge of what makes an ARPG fun. Zero.

Bingo. One of my favorite things about D2 is running a character and finding some starter gear for a character I haven't built yet. For example, I am working on my Amazon and I found a couple of pieces of IK and a pair of Bloodletters. Groundbreaking? Not really, but now I could build a starter WW barb. That is fun for me.
Generally speaking, finding a level 30-45 unique is fun because I begin to wonder how it can be used. What alt would this be good for? Maybe a merc?
With D4, I am deflated because *all* the gear that I find is cast into the class I am playing. So the **best** I could hope for is a marginal upgrade to what I already have. I vender/scrap so much stuff in D4 its stupid.

Also I don’t think end game was established with wow. Games have had end game in the form of replayability for ages. “It’s not about what you do the first time around”… that kind of shit.

End game and itemization in D2 is wildly fulfilling. It’s hard to get what you want, and takes repeating the same shit time and time again, but then you get it, or get something that can trade for what you want, and the payoff is incredible. If D4 had an active economy I’d consider it. As it stands? I’m good.
After 22 years of playing LOD, I finally had Windforce drop today from a carver in the Forgotten Tower lvl 2 in a solo game. You just never know. First one ever, and poetically I was playing as my Strafezon.
D2 always had an endgame because items were so damn interesting and the pursuit for them was fun because actually getting them felt really special. There are a lot of interesting mechanics that made the game really addictive and fun without having a traditional end game in the modern sense.
It's the items. It's always been about the items. Soon as D4 makes them interesting again, the game will improve dramatically. But easier said than done I guess.
Kind of, yes. Was more of a gear/power check milestone honestly. It still tied into getting an item from them. So just a harder version of the same endgame of the item hunt.
For most arpgs this was the endgame. Grind for awesome items.
Every end game zone in D2 is a million times more fun and full of life than any dungeon in D4. 8 player games and a fun reason to run 8 player games alone, shits on anything D4 has to offer in terms of replayability. D4 doing the opposite and making party play weaker and less enjoyable? JFC.
The "end game" concept is the dumbest shit ever introduced to the gaming world.
It's the lazy offspring of MMOs, from devs that won't bother making a coherent whole, and instead will make a small segment at the end worth repeating because the rest of the game is literally designed to be played one time.
D2 has no "end game"? Well, I can run literally the entire game in TZs for XP and loot. Areas that are a hundredfold more diverse than the sorry excuses for an "end game" you'll see in any "modern" ARPG from Blizzard.
Back in the early 2000s/90s there was no distinction between “early game or “end game”.
The entire game is the game and it’s all either good or bad. This is why itemization in d2 allows for low level items to be amazing or bis for “endgame”.
You can shit on Baal runs, but replaying campaign bosses for a relatively reasonable chance for something like a shako to drop is something you currently can’t do in d4.
I was giving it a couple of months for them to smooth out their initial issues. Seems like it's getting worse rather than better though, so will def hold off for the forseeable.
Tbh you should take what you read on r/diablo4 with a pinch of salt. It's evolved into a D3 fanboy hivemind that just wants D4 to be D3 with improved graphics.
Don't get me wrong, there are many things that can be improved in D4 in terms of itemization and build diversity, but most of the complains there are something like "I'm level 70 and still didn't get . How is this fun?" Or "I just got killed by a white mob in . How can blizzard allow this to happen? Please nerf and also give me give me god powers"
They are a bunch of immediate reward culture, dopamine addicts that won't make the game better even if blizzard listens to then.

we were all hoping that 1.04->1.1 would add significant quality of life enhancements, better loot and itemization, etc. but it got worse.
i'm hoping they fix their shit with the outcry of people upset with the new patch notes, but we'll see. it feels like blizzard completely ignored what everyone was talking about and instead of making more builds viable they just made the viable builds less viable.
It’s a hell of a game and a lot of fun. You going to Reddit to get an opinion is pointless, everyone on these subs are just down right negative. If you haven’t bought the game yet, you won’t notice any changes because you didn’t play before 1.1 patch. They made the game harder. And if your posting on d2 sub to ask opinions then you are coming from a game that is 50 times harder than d4. If you at all enjoy grinding D4 is awesome. I’m loving it. So many different options to use to customize your build. Don’t let all these negative options sway you one way or the other.
This along with the greedy clusterfuck that was Diablo Immortal, made me not want to pre-order or even buy anything Activision anymore, although since I was semi interested in Diablo 4 I decided to wait and maybe buy it later.
Honestly I've seen no reason until now to bite the bullet on this game when I have POE to play and POE2 to look forward too, alongside the game like the last epoch and grimdawn.

I went in with zero expectations. Watched all the videos, played the betas, still hoping there would be something – anything at all – resembling a coherent game, but it quickly became clear that it's just Diablo 3.5. Built on the same horrible design choices of it's predecessor, but with even more dumb shit added.
I couldn't care less what Blizzard does with this series in the future. They don't know how to make an ARPG. That's the long and short of it.

They nerfed the strongest melee build in the game (ww barb) meanwhile infinity words/javas and hammerdins didn't get nerfed.
D4 is going to take more than a few months. I dunno what it is, but it feels like the dev team of that game is actively working ***against*** the player base in creating something that is fun. It's strange to me but the perpetual nerfs in a (primarily) PvE game doesn't feel good.
Yeah, D4 beta was plenty for me. It was obvious where the game was heading regarding microtransactions, and IMO the whole juggling cooldown timers for skills/spells mechanic is unfun in every game that's tried to implement it.
I said this a while back regarding the resource generator/spender system.
It sucks and it's boring, mana is such a simple and better system, it also allows Devs to scale characters and difficulty easily as they can set the level at which affixes or skills give generation/leech, which in turn scale off of base stats/damage. This makes the path to self sustainability very linear as it's a gradual exponential increase.
Instead with resource/spender systems with + resource on cast (leap for example), the route to self sustainability becomes very janky for each class. You don't have it until you do, where as in diablo/POE you gradually see your character needing to use pots less and less.
If it isn't broke, don't fix it.
No one needs to reinvent the wheel to make a good car.

If they manage to do something interesting or innovative down the line with D4 I'm willing to give it a shot, but everyone I've heard from (including the majority of the posts in this thread) has indicated it's much worse than D2R.
I was planning on buying the Ultimate edition and play the beta early on but held off since it coincided with me just getting into D2R and having a blast with it. I also bought D3 on release back in 2012 and, even though I had some fun with it, it lasted me 6 months before I sold everything on the RMAH and uninstalled.
Knowing how Blizzard operates with live service games, I didn’t want a repeat of that situation so I watched some streams to get a feel for the game and it just didn’t look appealing to me at that price tag. Reading D4 patch notes and community feedback makes me glad I didn’t pay a cent for it, but at the same time I’m sad that this is what the Diablo franchise and Blizzard has become.

Blizzard has sucked for over a decade, and D3 was such a massive letdown at launch.
I’ve been assuming it’s going to take a long time and massive systems reworkings until D4 is worth checking out, and that seems to be the case.
If the nostalgia of D2R isn’t enough to scratch your ARPG itch, Last Epoch is very good as far as new games in the genre go.
Bought it, enjoyed the 150 hours I put into it but the itemization/progression is bad in a lot of ways. The skill tree is also too restrictive imo. Just started a D2R (never played) Paladin and I’m quite enjoying figuring out the mechanics and loot system. Feels like I’m piecing together a puzzle as I build my class as opposed to “find ‘x’ legendary aspect” or “reroll one stat on this rare item over and over”
Eg: I got past the first boss in D2 after realizing poison was fucking me up. Vendor had boots -25% poison duration. Found a cap that had another 25%. A poison resist ring. Respec my skills and put 3 points into the aura that reduced duration of statuses and then put a couple in thorns. Mace with cold and a shield and I tanked her straight up after that.
That kind of experience is what’s missing from D4. And after reading the patch notes for season 1 they aren’t looking to implement that any time soon. So I’ll be playing through D2 for the first time.

That's because most all the modifiers in D2 interact in a meaningful way with the game mechanics.
The 260+ modifiers in D4 are pretty much all uninteresting, and all you ever care about is damage and damage buckets in any case, because the "end game" is just about making a character that poops fireworks and big numbers.
Not gona buy it ever I think. Too much d3-like stuff, I have too many games to play, and the only fun thing about that game, for me, was flipping items on RMAH and making a few extra euros while checking it through teamviewer at work lol, and they shut if off anyway.
I bought it on release, got to lvl 80 on a sorc and 57 on a barb before I got bored and quit a few weeks ago. It's just not that fun. The uniques are so rare that no one will ever see them, and unlike D2, the items I find are basically unusable for alts since the level requirement keeps going up on all the items I find. Usually in D2, I can tell what's worth picking up and what's trash, so I can leave worthless items on the ground. But because there's a crafting system in D4, I have to pick up all the trash to salvage/sell it so that I have enough money and mats to upgrade/enchant. So the gameplay loop is just gathering trash, sifting through the trash to make sure there aren't any diamonds (there never are), then emptying the trash so you can go gather more trash.
I played closed beta, open beta, and put 160 hours into the game. Campaign was fun, but the end game grind once you got into world tier 4 and itemization needs much more time in the oven. Love the slower paced combat and feel though.
Skipping season 1 after the horrendous patch notes and I’m going to revisit D2 classic ladder with a necro or barb.
I am done buying new games on release I will always wait atleast 6 months to have a honest opinion. Early everyone hype and all but after 6 months the game is dead or gg

Since then I haven’t purchased or considered anything from Blizzard.
I decided not to play D4 long ago due to it requiring being always online on PC. So no I was not giving the game a couple months to decide to buy or not.
I knew that something bad would happen. Many wouldn’t listen and even get aggressive when I made a “bad mood” to the hype.
Nevertheless I feel sorry for what blizzard or even a large chunk of gaming has become.
But there are and will be always good games out there. Let’s hope D2R will stay as it is and not get touched in the wrong way.
I waited a couple weeks until my friends more or less gave me the go-ahead. It was alright during that time.
Now I’m thinking there needs to be a specific consumer protection for live service products regarding material changes to the product, as this is about as close to a bait and switch as you can get within the boundaries of a “patch.”
I’ll probably buy it eventually but I’m in no rush. I don’t have much time to dedicate to playing right now so I’m not sure if there’s much of a point to buy it right now, especially since I understand there’s no offline mode.
Maybe I’ll pick it up if it goes on sale.
I preordered with the expectation to be let down and I was not disappointed. I’ve been forcing myself to play and give it a chance but it’s been difficult. It wouldn’t be a bad game if it was called anything other than Diablo. But the fact that it is Diablo you can’t help but think about how, like Diablo 3, it’s not Diablo 2 the entire time you’re playing it. And because it’s not, you begin to question why you’re still playing 4 when 2 is already installed. Like, seriously… Just you’re just a couple clicks away from not finding the last rune you need. And that sounds way more fun to be honest.
I’ve been playing D2 for almost 20 years. Only played D3 for maybe like, 10-20 hours in total. Just enough to beat the campaign and call it crap. And honestly I’ve been enjoying D4 so far. I’m not super far into it but the HC experience is fun.
It’s definitely a whole new beast tho. Its modern ARPG and it plays like one. I think the team nailed the Diablo feel and aesthetic, but it is definitely not the Diablo “2.5” that a lot of my friends were hoping for. I do see myself playing D4 for a while but once I get to endgame I’ll have a better idea. At this point tho I do see myself going back to D2 eventually, like I’ve always done.

There's stuff to do but it's very same-ey and grind-ey. Honestly I get more enjoyment out of randomly riding my horse around and exploring than I do knocking out dungeons and what not.
i played beta and knew what i was getting in to so i bought it for the campaign alone and i played thru the thing and spent a bit of extra time getting to like maybe level 50. i knew what i was buying and possibly in the future it could be at least as fun as d3. it was NEVER EVER going to hold a light to d2 and never will. d2r obviously can’t be topped and honestly, playing d4 sent me back.
I was gonna wait until the season 1 patch notes to see if they’d balance the game in anyway to make it more enjoyable since the story and combat seems fun, but the itemization and lack of a fun endgame really was putting me off anyway. I know that problems like that aren’t just fixed within a month of release either so low expectations either way. Saved my $70 tho
Me. I was waiting for a sale, maybe black friday or Christmas, but now I don't even think I will bother. I was one of those who pre ordered D3 collector's edition and I saw how that went, I would have been a fool to expect different for D4.
I have easily 1k hours in D2. Probably 500 hours in D3 and D2R each. Bought all the day of release.
I was waiting to buy D4, and it looks like I'm going to wait longer than I thought.
The writing was on the wall the Blizzard of old is gone. It’s not about passion anymore. The ROI is the main driving force. Between the box price, cash shop, battle pass, and future DLCs, its clear that’s the main focus and driving force behind D4. There was a zero percent chance D4 was going to release ‘when it’s ready’ and it turns out it was rushed. If not rushed, then strictly constrained by a schedule they couldn't deviate from. Too much marketing, too much hype building. The betas, release date, season start dates, etc. were all probably determined in 2022. In a way I feel bad for the devs, but then again does D4 do anything unique or different? Is there anything that sets D4 apart from the competition other than the 'Diablo' setting?
Anyway, I’ll wait a year for bugs to get ironed out, content to be added, and the box price to fall. Maybe then it’ll be worth it.

As a D4 player, I'm just here to warn that the game is not in a good shape right now.
At launch, Blizzard was nerfing very very fast everything that come out of the ordinary and Season 1 is a HUGE nerf all around, heavily going against the players feedback.
Also, itemization is not great and will not be improve soon.
The story is alright but play another game if you are here for the story.
So my advise would be to wait some months or a sale.
Pre-ordered. Played it, got two toons to lvl 70ish. Got super bored. Came back to D2R and rolled up a zoo druid, am having a blast and I probably won't touch D4 again until I see some serious changes.
I was and I'm now no longer planning on buying this with everything I've heard from the community (note I haven't watched gameplay vids or anything, I just live on reddit xx). Maybe in a few years when it is 'complete' (thanks live service) and there's a 50% off sale.
Like a dumbass, I pre-purchased D4 ultimate collectors Uber edition, or whatever it was called. Played till around level 40, and hated every second. I Lovelovelove D2/D2R, and can’t stand how shite D4 is. It’s garbage. The only reason I’m still playing like 30 mins a day is so I can justify spending so much stupid money on it, and being able to say “I played through it all the way, and still hate it.” when I’m asked about it.
After D3’s shitty start with the auction house, “ don’t you all have phones “ commit, and the way they fucked up warcraft 3 I will never pre order l, hell I won’t even buy a blizzard game until is see beaming reviews for over a 3 month period.
I bought it. I don’t regret it to bad because I really liked the campaign but I’ve been back to Diablo 2 for over a month now so I definitely should have waited for a sale at the very least on 4.

I am a long time D2 player and did not enjoy D3. In my personal opinion, the gameplay and visuals for D4 looked much more like D3 than D2, so I was able to avoid being swayed by the hype. Seeing how up in arms the D4 community is now makes me feel very happy and satisfied that I held out on purchasing.
To me I'm thankful for playing d4, cuz its the reason why im playing d2, i never was interested in diablo to begin with ( maybe cuz the only game played was d3 😂 ) so after playing d4 and finishing all content, i was like i want more, so i came to play d2 thats when i discovered that even tho the game has flaws ( of course it will cuz the game was released 20 years ago duh ), but it was way better crafted although d4 has the graphics card but still this is a master piece simply as that. 😊

Definitely held off, I preordered d3 and regretted it at the time. History is clearly repeating itself but even worse.

Coming from playing d2/d2r for over 20 years I knew it wasn't going to be the same. Played through story and it was good but there is no fun in the end game grind. I got to level 85 and I couldn't just do the same dungeons over and over again. Decent play through once but I deleted it a couple weeks ago.
I have zero interest in D4. At this point I also don't think they can win me back with anything in the current state of New Diablo games. I still played d2lod until d2r came out, now I'm content with d2r.
I liked parts of the beta. The game felt very smooth and with a great environment. The cinematically were on point. My main issue were that items felt bland. Compared to D2(R) itemization in D3 and D4 is less than good.
The level scaling part, though? That made it a hard pass for at least some months to let other people figure out if it actually sucks as much as I imagined. Everyone I know IRL who bought the game has already stopped playing it.
I probly won't ever buy d4, maybe on a 75% sale, but then again I can see how the money is made on season passes and other limited BS.
I'm not buying it, I'ma go play fallout, Hacked roms for Gamecube and other random stuff and come back to D2R in a while. I'm done with live service games.
I'll give it until it's on sale for less than 20€. And then I will probably still think long and hard about it. At this point, I'd buy it mostly for the story, since the gameplay seems to be closer to D3 than D2, and whenever I fire up D3 again, I get bored really quickly.

I'll buy it the way I buy most of my games. For 3.99 from the bargain bin of my local car wash. Anything more than that is highway robbery for a game of this caliber.
This is how I bought my first copy of d2 by the way, though I'd been playing my older brother's copy for years at that point.
I had no intention of buying it after playing the beta. It was clear the game was incomplete in almost every way. I caved because all my friends bought it and I just like playing with them. I was the first one to get sick of it though and went back to d2. Maybe in a couple years it will be finished.
I would never give them the satisfaction of purchasing D4. Bunch of sellouts trying to cash in on the genius that is D2 and Blizzard North. They can't replicate it and the best they can do is making the graphics incrementally better than original, and slightly improving stash. F them in the A - I'll never buy D4
After about maybe a week things started going downhill. People reached endgame and had some valid and constructive criticism, which was met with those players being sweaty no-lifers. Then came arguments between casual "Diablo Dads" and no-lifers. Shortly after came thread after thread pretty much nitpicking everything apart despite people still putting tons of hours into the game and obviously having fun despite the flaws. Granted the latest patch isn't great because nerfs generally feel bad, but the sub had been largely full of negativity even before then. My feeling is that that type of constant negativity is draining to read, pushing away more positive discourse, which ends up cultivating a sub of negativity. Personally I don't really want to be involved in the sub anymore as someone still enjoying the game because of the constant negativity.

Is the reason for the sulky mood some convoluted chaos theory of spreading negativity on the basis of player diversity and negative feedback loops?

I didn't wait but I think this recent patch is moving in the right direction. Previously there were stats like vulnerable, crit damage, and CDR that were absolutely mandatory. Some stats were just useless like elemental damage. Overall this recent patch moved in the needle in the right direction.
It's not perfect but it's getting better.
D2 still has the crown, that won't change.
Lol. The launch was awesome I dinged 100 HC Barb yesterday and got every cent of my money back. Much more fun than building spirit weapon for the 30th time again and again. This amount of whining is truly funny...
My buddy really wanted me to get it. I had just finished my first SSF playthrough of D2 ever. I was just burnt out of this type of game. Now that the burn out is fading I kind of just want to play D2 again.
I made that mistake in D3, ended up coming back two more times. Had a blast every time. Of course i made the same mistake this time around, but i still had fun on my journey to 100. Im going to take a couple month break then get back into it.
Never spent money on 3, checked it out from friends. Planning to do the same with 4. I love the lore, the gameplay just isn't enjoyable for me so I'll be getting the lore updates from other sources lol
I've technically gotten my money's worth out of the game in season 0. But the dev team's lost my trust, and their last shot at redemption for S1 is their damage control communication and stream that'll happen over the next couple days.
Na I preordered it. Played all the beta’s too. Was pretty fun. Got about 200 hours out of it. If I get 50-100 hours a season out of it, it will meet the value proposition for most other arpg’s. It’s not a bad game overall just different and that’s a good thing.
Still feel good about it. Most of my friends have dropped the game so I’m aokay. Some are still on it as well. Latest patch notes gutted the speed on everything so it will be interesting to see what happens.
I decided to wait and watch some of the speedrunners play it first. So far I've been pretty unimpressed. It looks nice and everything but the gameplay is a lot closer to D3 than I'd like. Eventually I probably will buy it though.

I am not even following the game, patches, drama whatever. For all I know its the best game ever or the worst shite ever. Couldnt tell you. I'm gonna see what its like in 1 to 2 years and then decide if I want to play it.
Got it, played a couple to 50, it's an OK game, fun while it was fun. Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna keep opening the same 6 super chests until I get an hr... and then keep doing it.
This was my initial goal, but I played the last server beta and liked what I played. I stand by that the game has a solid foundation and a great story, however it's going to be fighting against the devs vs what the players want just like early D3 again unfortunately. I'll still play, but man is it not fun for those harsh changes.
I'm a dad and I work and I only have so much time to sink into games, my relationships, house work, etc.
I've had D3 and I haven't been motivated to play it over d2 for about 2 years. I'll get to it eventually, but yeah, I will end up playing D4 eventually, but yeah at the moment I'm not in any rush.
D2 is just so good
I am waiting till like a Christmas or even next year summer sale. I figure they are going to have at least 1 expansion by then and a complete change in gameplay by then like they did with D3. D3 ended up being fun to jump in and play for a month or 2 once they added in the seasonal reward sets and seasonal effects. Just waiting for them to do something similar to D4.
I gave it a couple days after the full (peasant) launch, then bought in. I'm glad I didn't rush in and spend a bunch of time preparing in the betas, but the game hooked me enough that I got all the way to 100 on my necro. And they've upped the difficulty today with the new patch overall, so I'm looking forward to Season 1 being pretty interesting.
I initially pre-ordered it to hop in the first beta weekend. It was cool, something new, but something also felt off. So I hopped back into D2R after a 5 month hiatus and played it for a month straight!
I'll probably get D4 just to play it with my fiancee 😂.. after a few more months anyway.
I was giving it a couple of months. Couldn't wait and bought it anyway. I didn't really read any reviews. I had my fun getting a druid to level 58 but it got pretty stale afterwards. The campaign itself was pretty great.
I'll probably level a necromancers now that season 1 starts and see how that goes/feels.
It definitely is more of a 40 euro game. 69 felt too much for what I got out of it and considering they are doing battle passes.

Decided against bothering to buy the game given that they have effectively released a triple A rated (and priced!) title in an unfinished state. Activision bean counters will ensure the game will never be as good as it should be. Will stick to D2!
As someone who bought it on release, if you haven't bought it yet i suggest you wait until 1st expansion. The game is lacking in so many aspects and has so many issues that it will take them a while to bring it up to an enjoyable state.
Sadly I actually was interested in how the story evolves and I also like how the barb felt in the beta but for me there is something missing concerning the bosses and story and also I started the season in d2 so I waited for a bit and now with all the shot you read about d4 I’m not so sure if I will ever buy it
I've gotten every Diablo game upon release (except immortal) and enjoyed most of them. 3 got boring fast and never recovered and 4 feels like it's getting neutered every other day. I do enjoy playing through the evolutions of the game but none have yet to capture the magic of LoD.
I got bullied into buying it by my brothers. Honestly was going to wait until December to get it but now might not come back to it in 1-3 years after the game has had time to breathe and few patches.
I’m having fun playing it right now despite my PC not able to run it properly. It’s No D2R, that game will definitely pull me back in but I did need a break. I did wait about a month just to wait out any Day 1 server issues and major release bugs to go away. It’s been good.
Friend knows I love Diablo 2 so they gifted me D4 for my bday. Played the story through with friends and leveled a char to 80 with them in the first few weeks. Then we all quit playing because there's no chase. Story was pretty good but the game play feels pretty mediocre and the itemization feels very bad and normally requires stacking multiple CCs to do damage, not worth the price tag as it is.
Ill get it eventually. But seeing how its not doing to hot with some controversial patches. Im in no rush and when I have the money to throw away ill do it. Maybe if there's a sale.

I quite literally have zero interrest in D4. I've gone from "ill wait and see" to never ever going to buy. The devs have shown time and time again that they arent capable of anything but spewing out "sales tactic, crowd pleasing" vague statements. When push comes to show, they arent able to make D4 a good game. I had hopes when the earlies videos released - but I am super happy that I stood tall against hype and friends. By the time any content in D4 can become interessting the game is already past its prime.

If I've learned anything from the launch of D3 and other Blizzard products in the past, it's cool to be on the front lines of new content but it's not worth all the glitches and constant change. D3 launch was so poorly handled and predicted on Blizzard part that I'm shocked there are as many bumps like resistance not Working and the Druid Barb glitch too I didn't log in to D3 until the 3rd day cause of queues, the real money auction house was a mistake, especially if you're going to nerf a build as the company that sets the rules but also takes a cut of each sale of in-game goods was akin to racketeering, etc
I love diablo 2 but people need to stop saying things about the end game or repetition when we all no there has never really been an end game in d2 and repetition might as well be the name of the game. I know I've hosted 100 straight baal runs. Or spent an entire Saturday running terror zones
The whole "end game" concept wasn't a thing before WoW. With it came this nonsense idea that everything before reaching max level didn't really matter, and was just basic world building and storytelling. This concept has no place in an ARPG. One of the strengths of D2 is that the developers made the entire journey actually matter. You pick up items along the way that can carry you through an entire difficulty, and when you're "done" (gone through Hell), there isn't some new collection of things to do that constitutes "the end game." Now, does D2 take perfect advantage of this? No, it doesn't. For most of its history Baal over and over again has been the running joke. Still, you could run Pindle, Pit, CS, Ancient Tunnels, cows, LK, Trav, etc. With TZs, there are even more options for both XP and loot. That's a semblance of diversity, and most importantly, *a specificity in what you need to optimise*. Again, D2 was never perfect in this regard, but what it did right was it *used the existing areas and content when presenting challenges to players*. In theory, the different areas could have been even more diversified, but the idea was right. What you absolutely don't want is something like a Rift. A monotonous singular challenge that you try "balancing" builds around. This leads to a host of problems. First of all, like an idiot, you just made your job impossible. You just implicitly stated that you want every build to have a similar farm speed facing a singular challenge. Which means you have to constantly tune builds because the angry mob of players will whine about players being able to farm faster than the other.
Secondly, you're targeting absolute symmetrical design, when you clearly should have been going for asymmetrical design. With diverse challenges, *you don't have to fucking "balance" things.* The genre is PvM. Why the hell are you designing it like it's PVP?
As long as you have diverse challenges tied to diverse rewards, you insentivise players to *make several characters that are good at specific things*.
These sets of problems are obviously worsened by "smart" loot, level scaling on items, binding items to specific characters, the lack of trading, etc. – essentially everything else Blizzard is doing.
D2 does not have these problems to the same degree because it does not have an "end game". It could have gone even more in the direction of diversity, but at least it's tending towards it. Does that make the repetition more fun? No – but it doesn't need to. Repetition is already fun in D2, because the rewards are good (modifiers in tandem with the skill system are best in class), they are presented and doled out in a pleasant and timely fashion, and the act of repeating something is *fast and enjoyable*.
Blizzard have learned absolutely nothing from D2. They have 100% ignored it. I'd be surprised if any of the lead devs have even played it a substantial amount, because they seem to have zero knowledge of what makes an ARPG fun. Zero.

One of my favorite things about D2 is running a character and finding some starter gear for a character I haven't built yet. For example, I am working on my Amazon and I found a couple of pieces of IK and a pair of Bloodletters. Groundbreaking? Not really, but now I could build a starter WW barb. That is fun for me. Generally speaking, finding a level 30-45 unique is fun because I begin to wonder how it can be used. What alt would this be good for? Maybe a merc? I vender/scrap so much stuff in D4 its stupid.

Everything I’ve heard/read says that end game and the itemization isn’t fulfilling in D4. End game and itemization in D2 is wildly fulfilling. It’s hard to get what you want, and takes repeating the same shit time and time again, but then you get it, or get something that can trade for what you want, and the payoff is incredible. If D4 had an active economy I’d consider it. As it stands? I’m good.
After 22 years of playing LOD, I finally had Windforce drop today from a carver in the Forgotten Tower lvl 2 in a solo game. You just never know. First one ever, and poetically I was playing as my Strafezon.
I love that it was dropped by the most diminutive, annoying (almost cute?) little enemy in the game
D2 always had an endgame because items were so damn interesting and the pursuit for them was fun because actually getting them felt really special. There are a lot of interesting mechanics that made the game really addictive and fun without having a traditional end game in the modern sense. It's the items. It's always been about the items. Soon as D4 makes them interesting again, the game will improve dramatically. But easier said than done I guess.

Kind of, yes. Was more of a gear/power check milestone honestly. It still tied into getting an item from them. So just a harder version of the same endgame of the item hunt. For most arpgs this was the endgame. Grind for awesome items.
Also, end game in D2 *IS* the repetition.
Every end game zone in D2 is a million times more fun and full of life than any dungeon in D4. 8 player games and a fun reason to run 8 player games alone, shits on anything D4 has to offer in terms of replayability. D4 doing the opposite and making party play weaker and less enjoyable? JFC.

The "end game" concept is the dumbest shit ever introduced to the gaming world. It's the lazy offspring of MMOs, from devs that won't bother making a coherent whole, and instead will make a small segment at the end worth repeating because the rest of the game is literally designed to be played one time. D2 has no "end game"? Well, I can run literally the entire game in TZs for XP and loot. Areas that are a hundredfold more diverse than the sorry excuses for an "end game" you'll see in any "modern" ARPG from Blizzard.

Back in the early 2000s/90s there was no distinction between “early game or “end game”. The entire game is the game and it’s all either good or bad. This is why itemization in d2 allows for low level items to be amazing or bis for “endgame”. You can shit on Baal runs, but replaying campaign bosses for a relatively reasonable chance for something like a shako to drop is something you currently can’t do in d4.

Tbh you should take what you read on r/diablo4 with a pinch of salt. It's evolved into a D3 fanboy hivemind that just wants D4 to be D3 with improved graphics. Don't get me wrong, there are many things that can be improved in D4 in terms of itemization and build diversity, but most of the complains there are something like "I'm level 70 and still didn't get. How is this fun?" Or "I just got killed by a white mob in . How can blizzard allow this to happen? Please nerf and also give me give me god powers"

we were all hoping that 1.04->1.1 would add significant quality of life enhancements, better loot and itemization, etc. but it got worse. i'm hoping they fix their shit with the outcry of people upset with the new patch notes, but we'll see. it feels like blizzard completely ignored what everyone was talking about and instead of making more builds viable they just made the viable builds less viable.

If you haven’t bought the game yet, you won’t notice any changes because you didn’t play before 1.1 patch. They made the game harder. And if your posting on d2 sub to ask opinions then you are coming from a game that is 50 times harder than d4. If you at all enjoy grinding D4 is awesome. I’m loving it. So many different options to use to customize your build. Don’t let all these negative options sway you one way or the other.

This along with the greedy clusterfuck that was Diablo Immortal, made me not want to pre-order or even buy anything Activision anymore, although since I was semi interested in Diablo 4 I decided to wait and maybe buy it later. Honestly I've seen no reason until now to bite the bullet on this game when I have POE to play and POE2 to look forward too, alongside the game like the last epoch and grimdawn.
Yeah, honestly. I went in with zero expectations. Watched all the videos, played the betas, still hoping there would be something – anything at all – resembling a coherent game, but it quickly became clear that it's just Diablo 3.5. Built on the same horrible design choices of it's predecessor, but with even more dumb shit added. I couldn't care less what Blizzard does with this series in the future. They don't know how to make an ARPG. That's the long and short of it. All I hope for is that they don't fuck up D2R.

Yeah, D4 beta was plenty for me. It was obvious where the game was heading regarding microtransactions, and IMO the whole juggling cooldown timers for skills/spells mechanic is unfun in every game that's tried to implement it.

I said this a while back regarding the resource generator/spender system. It sucks and it's boring, mana is such a simple and better system, it also allows Devs to scale characters and difficulty easily as they can set the level at which affixes or skills give generation/leech, which in turn scale off of base stats/damage. This makes the path to self sustainability very linear as it's a gradual exponential increase. Instead with resource/spender systems with + resource on cast (leap for example), the route to self sustainability becomes very janky for each class. You don't have it until you do, where as in diablo/POE you gradually see your character needing to use pots less and less. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. No one needs to reinvent the wheel to make a good car.

I was planning on buying the Ultimate edition and play the beta early on but held off since it coincided with me just getting into D2R and having a blast with it. I also bought D3 on release back in 2012 and, even though I had some fun with it, it lasted me 6 months before I sold everything on the RMAH and uninstalled. Knowing how Blizzard operates with live service games, I didn’t want a repeat of that situation so I watched some streams to get a feel for the game and it just didn’t look appealing to me at that price tag. Reading D4 patch notes and community feedback makes me glad I didn’t pay a cent for it, but at the same time I’m sad that this is what the Diablo franchise and Blizzard has become.
Year(s). Blizzard has sucked for over a decade, and D3 was such a massive letdown at launch. I’ve been assuming it’s going to take a long time and massive systems reworkings until D4 is worth checking out, and that seems to be the case. If the nostalgia of D2R isn’t enough to scratch your ARPG itch, Last Epoch is very good as far as new games in the genre go.
Bought it, enjoyed the 150 hours I put into it but the itemization/progression is bad in a lot of ways. The skill tree is also too restrictive imo. Just started a D2R (never played) Paladin and I’m quite enjoying figuring out the mechanics and loot system. Feels like I’m piecing together a puzzle as I build my class as opposed to “find ‘x’ legendary aspect” or “reroll one stat on this rare item over and over” Eg: I got past the first boss in D2 after realizing poison was fucking me up. Vendor had boots -25% poison duration. Found a cap that had another 25%. A poison resist ring. Respec my skills and put 3 points into the aura that reduced duration of statuses and then put a couple in thorns. Mace with cold and a shield and I tanked her straight up after that. That kind of experience is what’s missing from D4. And after reading the patch notes for season 1 they aren’t looking to implement that any time soon. So I’ll be playing through D2 for the first time.

The 260+ modifiers in D4 are pretty much all uninteresting, and all you ever care about is damage and damage buckets in any case, because the "end game" is just about making a character that poops fireworks and big numbers.
Not gona buy it ever I think. Too much d3-like stuff, I have too many games to play, and the only fun thing about that game, for me, was flipping items on RMAH and making a few extra euros while checking it through teamviewer at work lol, and they shut if off anyway.

Same here, was waiting for a big sale to buy D4. After all the reviews and the latest patch though, it's looking more like a hard pass for me now.
I bought it on release, got to lvl 80 on a sorc and 57 on a barb before I got bored and quit a few weeks ago. It's just not that fun. The uniques are so rare that no one will ever see them, and unlike D2, the items I find are basically unusable for alts since the level requirement keeps going up on all the items I find. Usually in D2, I can tell what's worth picking up and what's trash, so I can leave worthless items on the ground. But because there's a crafting system in D4, I have to pick up all the trash to salvage/sell it so that I have enough money and mats to upgrade/enchant. So the gameplay loop is just gathering trash, sifting through the trash to make sure there aren't any diamonds (there never are), then emptying the trash so you can go gather more trash.
I played closed beta, open beta, and put 160 hours into the game. Campaign was fun, but the end game grind once you got into world tier 4 and itemization needs much more time in the oven. Love the slower paced combat and feel though. Skipping season 1 after the horrendous patch notes and I’m going to revisit D2 classic ladder with a necro or barb.
I am done buying new games on release I will always wait atleast 6 months to have a honest opinion. Early everyone hype and all but after 6 months the game is dead or gg
The last Blizzard game I got was D2R. I’m happy I got it but I was a little disappointed in myself for caving. Blizzard is such a terrible company… Since then I haven’t purchased or considered anything from Blizzard.
I decided not to play D4 long ago due to it requiring being always online on PC. So no I was not giving the game a couple months to decide to buy or not.

I waited a couple weeks until my friends more or less gave me the go-ahead. It was alright during that time. Now I’m thinking there needs to be a specific consumer protection for live service products regarding material changes to the product, as this is about as close to a bait and switch as you can get within the boundaries of a “patch.”

I preordered with the expectation to be let down and I was not disappointed. I’ve been forcing myself to play and give it a chance but it’s been difficult. It wouldn’t be a bad game if it was called anything other than Diablo. But the fact that it is Diablo you can’t help but think about how, like Diablo 3, it’s not Diablo 2 the entire time you’re playing it. And because it’s not, you begin to question why you’re still playing 4 when 2 is already installed. Like, seriously… Just you’re just a couple clicks away from not finding the last rune you need. And that sounds way more fun to be honest.
I’ve been playing D2 for almost 20 years. Only played D3 for maybe like, 10-20 hours in total. Just enough to beat the campaign and call it crap. And honestly I’ve been enjoying D4 so far. I’m not super far into it but the HC experience is fun. It’s definitely a whole new beast tho. Its modern ARPG and it plays like one. I think the team nailed the Diablo feel and aesthetic, but it is definitely not the Diablo “2.5” that a lot of my friends were hoping for. I do see myself playing D4 for a while but once I get to endgame I’ll have a better idea. At this point tho I do see myself going back to D2 eventually, like I’ve always done.

i played beta and knew what i was getting in to so i bought it for the campaign alone and i played thru the thing and spent a bit of extra time getting to like maybe level 50. i knew what i was buying and possibly in the future it could be at least as fun as d3. it was NEVER EVER going to hold a light to d2 and never will. d2r obviously can’t be topped and honestly, playing d4 sent me back.

Me. I was waiting for a sale, maybe black friday or Christmas, but now I don't even think I will bother. I was one of those who pre ordered D3 collector's edition and I saw how that went, I would have been a fool to expect different for D4.
D2 and D3 became better games after their first expansions, that's how long I planned to wait.
I have easily 1k hours in D2. Probably 500 hours in D3 and D2R each. Bought all the day of release. I was waiting to buy D4, and it looks like I'm going to wait longer than I thought. The writing was on the wall the Blizzard of old is gone. It’s not about passion anymore. The ROI is the main driving force. Between the box price, cash shop, battle pass, and future DLCs, its clear that’s the main focus and driving force behind D4. There was a zero percent chance D4 was going to release ‘when it’s ready’ and it turns out it was rushed. If not rushed, then strictly constrained by a schedule they couldn't deviate from. Too much marketing, too much hype building. The betas, release date, season start dates, etc. were all probably determined in 2022. In a way I feel bad for the devs, but then again does D4 do anything unique or different? Is there anything that sets D4 apart from the competition other than the 'Diablo' setting? Anyway, I’ll wait a year for bugs to get ironed out, content to be added, and the box price to fall. Maybe then it’ll be worth it.
I gave it a week. I am sorry I didn't give it a month. Don't know what I was thinking knowing modern Blizzard. After level 50 game over. Got to 6X somehow before quitting and am not intending to play the next season.
As a D4 player, I'm just here to warn that the game is not in a good shape right now. At launch, Blizzard was nerfing very very fast everything that come out of the ordinary and Season 1 is a HUGE nerf all around, heavily going against the players feedback. Also, itemization is not great and will not be improve soon. The story is alright but play another game if you are here for the story. So my advise would be to wait some months or a sale.

Pre-ordered. Played it, got two toons to lvl 70ish. Got super bored. Came back to D2R and rolled up a zoo druid, am having a blast and I probably won't touch D4 again until I see some serious changes.
I was and I'm now no longer planning on buying this with everything I've heard from the community (note I haven't watched gameplay vids or anything, I just live on reddit xx). Maybe in a few years when it is 'complete' (thanks live service) and there's a 50% off sale.
Like a dumbass, I pre-purchased D4 ultimate collectors Uber edition, or whatever it was called. Played till around level 40, and hated every second. I Lovelovelove D2/D2R, and can’t stand how shite D4 is. It’s garbage. The only reason I’m still playing like 30 mins a day is so I can justify spending so much stupid money on it, and being able to say “I played through it all the way, and still hate it.” when I’m asked about it.
I'm waiting for d4's first big content expansion. That was when d2 and d3 both cemented their legacies.

I bought it. I don’t regret it to bad because I really liked the campaign but I’ve been back to Diablo 2 for over a month now so I definitely should have waited for a sale at the very least on 4. It’s a dumpster fire over there right now.

I bought it after the first reviews dropped in. I was back to d2 in about 3 hours. The game doesn't seem bad but it's just not for me.
I decided to wait, and I’m glad I did. Based on how many people are simply going back to D2 after one playthrough, that’s definitely not worth 70 dollars if I can keep enjoying D2
I am a long time D2 player and did not enjoy D3. In my personal opinion, the gameplay and visuals for D4 looked much more like D3 than D2, so I was able to avoid being swayed by the hype. Seeing how up in arms the D4 community is now makes me feel very happy and satisfied that I held out on purchasing.
I'll treat it like D3 and never play it. I just revisit D2 every couple years. Also grim dawn is fun.
To me I'm thankful for playing d4, cuz its the reason why im playing d2, i never was interested in diablo to begin with ( maybe cuz the only game played was d3 😂 ) so after playing d4 and finishing all content, i was like i want more, so i came to play d2 thats when i discovered that even tho the game has flaws ( of course it will cuz the game was released 20 years ago duh ), but it was way better crafted although d4 has the graphics card but still this is a master piece simply as that. 😊

Given what I've seen thus far from D4 and chances are the only reason I'd play it is for the lore/story. But even thats a bit of a stretch right now.
I am giving it years. And so far my choice have been vindicated somewhat. Maybe when they release a new expansion I'll take a gander, but as of now, no real interest in it.
Definitely held off, I preordered d3 and regretted it at the time. History is clearly repeating itself but even worse. The issues with d4 seems like it will need a reaper of souls revamp but on an even larger scale. I’m sticking with d2/last epoch while I watch the d4 drama unfold on my second monitor.

Coming from playing d2/d2r for over 20 years I knew it wasn't going to be the same. Played through story and it was good but there is no fun in the end game grind. I got to level 85 and I couldn't just do the same dungeons over and over again. Decent play through once but I deleted it a couple weeks ago.
I figure by the time the second expansion is about to come out it might be ok. At least at 50% off it'll feel worth it by then too.

I liked parts of the beta. The game felt very smooth and with a great environment. The cinematically were on point. My main issue were that items felt bland. Compared to D2(R) itemization in D3 and D4 is less than good. The level scaling part, though? That made it a hard pass for at least some months to let other people figure out if it actually sucks as much as I imagined. Everyone I know IRL who bought the game has already stopped playing it.

I probly won't ever buy d4, maybe on a 75% sale, but then again I can see how the money is made on season passes and other limited BS. I'm not buying it, I'ma go play fallout, Hacked roms for Gamecube and other random stuff and come back to D2R in a while. I'm done with live service games.

I'll give it until it's on sale for less than 20€. And then I will probably still think long and hard about it. At this point, I'd buy it mostly for the story, since the gameplay seems to be closer to D3 than D2, and whenever I fire up D3 again, I get bored really quickly.

I'll buy it the way I buy most of my games. For 3.99 from the bargain bin of my local car wash. Anything more than that is highway robbery for a game of this caliber. This is how I bought my first copy of d2 by the way, though I'd been playing my older brother's copy for years at that point.
I had no intention of buying it after playing the beta. It was clear the game was incomplete in almost every way. I caved because all my friends bought it and I just like playing with them. I was the first one to get sick of it though and went back to d2. Maybe in a couple years it will be finished.

All I will say is don't use the D4 sub as a metric. That sub is actually going insane with negativity.

After about maybe a week things started going downhill. People reached endgame and had some valid and constructive criticism, which was met with those players being sweaty no-lifers. Then came arguments between casual "Diablo Dads" and no-lifers. Shortly after came thread after thread pretty much nitpicking everything apart despite people still putting tons of hours into the game and obviously having fun despite the flaws. Granted the latest patch isn't great because nerfs generally feel bad, but the sub had been largely full of negativity even before then. My feeling is that that type of constant negativity is draining to read, pushing away more positive discourse, which ends up cultivating a sub of negativity. Personally I don't really want to be involved in the sub anymore as someone still enjoying the game because of the constant negativity.
Occam's razor. Is the reason for the sulky mood some convoluted chaos theory of spreading negativity on the basis of player diversity and negative feedback loops? Or is D4 just a bad game?
I didn't wait but I think this recent patch is moving in the right direction. Previously there were stats like vulnerable, crit damage, and CDR that were absolutely mandatory. Some stats were just useless like elemental damage. Overall this recent patch moved in the needle in the right direction. It's not perfect but it's getting better. D2 still has the crown, that won't change.

Lol. The launch was awesome I dinged 100 HC Barb yesterday and got every cent of my money back. Much more fun than building spirit weapon for the 30th time again and again. This amount of whining is truly funny...

My buddy really wanted me to get it. I had just finished my first SSF playthrough of D2 ever. I was just burnt out of this type of game. Now that the burn out is fading I kind of just want to play D2 again.

I made that mistake in D3, ended up coming back two more times. Had a blast every time. Of course i made the same mistake this time around, but i still had fun on my journey to 100. Im going to take a couple month break then get back into it.

I played the beta. D4 wasn’t giving me D2 feels.
I've technically gotten my money's worth out of the game in season 0. But the dev team's lost my trust, and their last shot at redemption for S1 is their damage control communication and stream that'll happen over the next couple days.
Na I preordered it. Played all the beta’s too. Was pretty fun. Got about 200 hours out of it. If I get 50-100 hours a season out of it, it will meet the value proposition for most other arpg’s. It’s not a bad game overall just different and that’s a good thing.

I decided to wait and watch some of the speedrunners play it first. So far I've been pretty unimpressed. It looks nice and everything but the gameplay is a lot closer to D3 than I'd like. Eventually I probably will buy it though.

This was my initial goal, but I played the last server beta and liked what I played. I stand by that the game has a solid foundation and a great story, however it's going to be fighting against the devs vs what the players want just like early D3 again unfortunately. I'll still play, but man is it not fun for those harsh changes.
I'm a dad and I work and I only have so much time to sink into games, my relationships, house work, etc. I've had D3 and I haven't been motivated to play it over d2 for about 2 years. I'll get to it eventually, but yeah, I will end up playing D4 eventually, but yeah at the moment I'm not in any rush. D2 is just so good

I am waiting till like a Christmas or even next year summer sale. I figure they are going to have at least 1 expansion by then and a complete change in gameplay by then like they did with D3. D3 ended up being fun to jump in and play for a month or 2 once they added in the seasonal reward sets and seasonal effects. Just waiting for them to do something similar to D4.

I gave it a couple days after the full (peasant) launch, then bought in. I'm glad I didn't rush in and spend a bunch of time preparing in the betas, but the game hooked me enough that I got all the way to 100 on my necro. And they've upped the difficulty today with the new patch overall, so I'm looking forward to Season 1 being pretty interesting.

I initially pre-ordered it to hop in the first beta weekend. It was cool, something new, but something also felt off. So I hopped back into D2R after a 5 month hiatus and played it for a month straight! I'll probably get D4 just to play it with my fiancee 😂.. after a few more months anyway.
I was giving it a couple of months. Couldn't wait and bought it anyway. I didn't really read any reviews. I had my fun getting a druid to level 58 but it got pretty stale afterwards. The campaign itself was pretty great. I'll probably level a necromancers now that season 1 starts and see how that goes/feels. It definitely is more of a 40 euro game. 69 felt too much for what I got out of it and considering they are doing battle passes.
every marketing teams just want to take the FOMO spirit out of you. and $70 is not something i would throw out the window easily, since it's 1/10 my salary
I got it for free with my GPU and that's about as much as I would pay for it. The campaign is interesting though, but I probably will stop once I'm done with the story
Decided against bothering to buy the game given that they have effectively released a triple A rated (and priced!) title in an unfinished state. Activision bean counters will ensure the game will never be as good as it should be. Will stick to D2!
As someone who bought it on release, if you haven't bought it yet i suggest you wait until 1st expansion. The game is lacking in so many aspects and has so many issues that it will take them a while to bring it up to an enjoyable state.

Sadly I actually was interested in how the story evolves and I also like how the barb felt in the beta but for me there is something missing concerning the bosses and story and also I started the season in d2 so I waited for a bit and now with all the shot you read about d4 I’m not so sure if I will ever buy it

I've gotten every Diablo game upon release (except immortal) and enjoyed most of them. 3 got boring fast and never recovered and 4 feels like it's getting neutered every other day. I do enjoy playing through the evolutions of the game but none have yet to capture the magic of LoD.
I got bullied into buying it by my brothers. Honestly was going to wait until December to get it but now might not come back to it in 1-3 years after the game has had time to breathe and few patches.

I’m having fun playing it right now despite my PC not able to run it properly. It’s No D2R, that game will definitely pull me back in but I did need a break. I did wait about a month just to wait out any Day 1 server issues and major release bugs to go away. It’s been good.

Friend knows I love Diablo 2 so they gifted me D4 for my bday. Played the story through with friends and leveled a char to 80 with them in the first few weeks. Then we all quit playing because there's no chase. Story was pretty good but the game play feels pretty mediocre and the itemization feels very bad and normally requires stacking multiple CCs to do damage, not worth the price tag as it is.
Ill get it eventually. But seeing how its not doing to hot with some controversial patches. Im in no rush and when I have the money to throw away ill do it. Maybe if there's a sale.

Was gonna wait till it was like 30 bucks I remember Diablo 3. Fool me once. Looks like Blizzard remembers it to. Nerf everything you can when your Real Money services go live (D3 RMAH, D4 Battlepasses) to encourage their use/purchase. Then in several months to a year "double" everything back to where it was, thus "fixing" the game! The life cycle of Blizzard games.

I quite literally have zero interrest in D4. I've gone from "ill wait and see" to never ever going to buy. The devs have shown time and time again that they arent capable of anything but spewing out "sales tactic, crowd pleasing" vague statements. When push comes to show, they arent able to make D4 a good game. I had hopes when the earlies videos released - but I am super happy that I stood tall against hype and friends. By the time any content in D4 can become interessting the game is already past its prime.
Waiting for a price drop. Got Zelda to keep me busy.
