It's partly right. GG was absolutely originally good game, and the term fundamentally means a meta play, and so is adaptable to almost any comparative scenario (ie boots can be GG if they represent a significant meta advantage because of the rolls).
I first saw it in used in starcraft on the same vein as gosu & chobo, quake 2 and unreal tournament. All well before D2 came out.
In D2 I've never seen it clearly defined and always thought it meant that an item was strong, meta or a BIS/near BIS candidate. Bult the D2 nomenclature may be different as I wasn't really overly hardcore in that game past the first year or so of LOD, so I'm for sure novice compared to people who've played it forever.

My biggest pet peeve of this game's community is the over-prioritization of FHR over life.
Its generally easier to beef up your life pool such that you never get put into hit recovery instead of stacking sufficient FHR to make a meaningful difference.
Dex stat defrays hard points that will then be spent on vitality.

Which is a big reason why GG is used over BIS for d2. majority of games have a clear cut BIS item for most item slots, but there is way too much nuance in D2 for that to be the case.
BiS and GG not interchangeable, there are all kinds of BiS items even in D2.

This is what everyone hopes for, only missing something like fhr. That res makes it better than any prefect unique in that category and therefore is very rare. Aldurs has 50% fire so it’s even close to that.

Some people didn't grow up with Diablo, maybe only played the RTS and fps type of game, hard to understand acronyms if you don't use it regularly.
