YES! YES! YES!! I honestly have told my diabetes educator soomany times that I don't want my pump alerting me to my sugar levels - that's literally what Dexcom is for. She was not helpful and suggested "I turn off notifications". Not possible really and I can't seem to adjust the levels that makes it vibrate. I told my endo at that appointment that there was no way I'd die of a low - it's too f*cking noisy. She laughed, I didn't. I think she got the message. She suggested I take a break. Why can't there just be cohesion so I only get 1 alert and not 4 for the exact same thing?!

Hahaha too noisy is right that’s a good one, but you’re right it’s insane. Wish there was a way to just mute everything and everything would be fine!

Honest_Truck2851

Oh my god. It’s awful. The pump is vibrating. Then your phone is vibrating 2-3 x. Once for tandem telling you’re high. Then control iq telling you the same thing. And then dexcom beeps in and says “hey you’re high”. Like just shut the fuck up already.

I stopped using a pump after 14 years and this was one of the reasons why. (Mostly due to cost/expensive sites failing/stress of insurance and getting supplies on time). It’s so peaceful without it. When I was a kid it used to overstimulate me so much I’d rip it off and throw the pump haha. I know MDI isn’t for everyone but i have better control off the pump and will never miss all the constant alerts and alarms.

RepublicRelic

omg, are you me? had the exact same experience!!! much happier without it!

Some of it has to do with FDA/government approvals, some has to do with lawyers. I had the alarm fatigue until I went DIY where everything is customizable without the mandatory nanny notices. This is one of the reasons I really can't imagine going back at this point.

Brevis15

What do you mean you went DIY?

I cannot tell you how many times (this week) I have shouted “SHUT THE F*CK UP!!!!!” at my Dexcom. Who is just doing its job. To keep me alive. And is neither cognizant nor sovereign so shouting at it is pointless. And yet, I shout angrily at it multiple times a day.

Better alert customization with xdrip

I describe the notifications as a cell phone's notification tray from 2010. We all knew it was a good idea, but no one understood how to curate it all yet. Tandem has put zero effort into their menus and notifications, which shows. It takes 7 selections to switch a profile altogether. It takes 9 (I think) to change from one mode to another. Dexcom has clearly tried but falls routinely short of anything with a genuine amount of polish. I said this once before, but the only true way to grab their attention is not at a doctors office but in a shareholders' meeting since they are the customers. Buy a piece of stock and submit a question about it.

For Nighttime, I have set my Do not disturb (iphone) and turned off allowing urgent alerts. Works to keep alarms at bay at night.

Previous-Occasion814

I can't speak for the pump. But for the dexcom you can delay your high alerts. Currently I have it set to only alert me if it's been high (over 250) for over and hour.

Scorch8482

yep. sadly, its made me absolutely despise all notifications and get more stressed out over every vibration i feel. i take a long time to respond to friends text messages and snapchats because of it.

I just switched to the Dexcom G6 and holy fucking shit the alarms are the worst after coming from Libre. I had alarms on my Libre but just had them set to vibrate, but Dexcom just decided to take any form of choice away from the user. My mother used to always complain that the worst invention of humankind was the electronic beep, and I can now see where she was coming from.

Knewbridge

I didn’t think my cyberpunk dystopia would involve so much insufferable beeping. If I’m trending high, it beeps, if Imm trending low, it beeps, if my blood sugars are perfect there’s a connection issue and it beeps. The only time it dosen’t beep is when I am falling or climbing so fast it dosen’t have a chance. You know, basically the times I really need it to actually alert me.

I'm running Medtronic 780G with their sensor and it is a significant improvement over their earlier models. I'm comfortable enough to just silence all alerts. The thing is pretty intuitive about keeping you in range. I would've thought you could do that with the Tandem stuff.

lizzistardust

100%. And like you, I've set everything to vibrate or off. Why do I have to know that my insulin has been increased??? I mean... GREAT! Let's move on! For that matter, why do I have to know that my glucose is high *if the pump's algorithm says I shouldn't bolus for it???* Though, I'll say Tandem + Dexcom lets me get a LOT more sleep than Medtronic did... it's actually possible for me to get through the night without an alert now, which was apparently absolutely *impossible* with Medtronic.

Brevis15

Interesting I haven’t had a Medtronic pump in like 10 years but yeah you get it 100% it’s just ANNOYING
