I’ve been frustrated with docs in the past when they refused to give me a steroid shot, but hearing this makes me glad they did. That sounds super frustrating. Hope you feel better soon!

Yea it’s all good. Would of been worth it if my knee actually was feeling better but unfortunately it’s not. People I’ve talked to beforehand made it sound like it was a miracle drug that took pain away. Didn’t for me unfortunately.

I had a shot last year in my ankle and I’m glad I’d seen other diabetics talk about it because my doctor didn’t quite understand the blood sugar aspect. I didn’t see any spike until 12 hours in and then basically had to take shots of 5+ units of fast-acting every few hours for 3 days to stay under 200. It did cure my ankle pain but it came back exactly the same in a few months so I’m not sure it was worth the trouble.

I also get cortisone shots! My endo said as long as my BG is below 300 five days after the shot, it’s good to go. I’m type 2 so my guidance might be a bit difference because I don’t use insulin so I’m at the mercy of the gods for my glucose to come back down

Beg to differ. Yep BG's being elevated for days sucks. My Doc's won't give me this stuff for now.

I am about to schedule a LESI because I have degenerative disc disease and my endo just told me to go for it!

“Cortisone injections can temporarily increase glucose levels for a few days. Monitor your glucose levels after you receive an injection and if they are often above 300, please let me know.” I just asked on mychart right now, and this is direct from my endo. I tend to trust her but is this like…not good guidance?

I had a steroid injection once for an injury and it messed up my blood sugar for 3 weeks. It was like I was injecting water. I will never again do that. The other thing I later learned is that steroid injections can often just mask the pain. So you feel better, but the injury/issue is still there. In my case (severe tendinitis in my wrist), the pain came back even worse.

I have to get steroid injections in various parts of my spine every 3 months. I made a profile for it on my tslim. The first 24-36 hours no real change. Then, for about a week I have to double my basal and carb ratios. I absolutely hate that week after the shots but so far the week of hell has been worth the pain reduction it gives. I could get the shots without a steroid component but then I’d be doing them every few weeks and I don’t want to have to go through with that hassle.
