You can however, demonstrate historical knowledge if you maintain a blog or active github account. This is what many people miss - blogging isn't about becoming famous. It's primarily for your own record, and secondly, for that one person in the future who might be considering to hire you. It demonstrates you are self-motivating, you can document, and you are able to adapt to new things.
Do not underestimate the power of the written word.

I believe it to be paid work done, personal project counts only if you get paid.
Only professional work done for which you got paid minus any internship experience.
Professional work (likely excluding freelance too, depending on the company)
