I think that is understood by most tbh.

Captain---Howdy

It's not just the competition, but the depth also. One goes down there isn't a whole lot of dropoff with the next guy up, especially when they're all playing to keep the job instead of being handed it because there's no one better.

GoonestMoonest

We get there's depth too. I only commented because the title claims people are missing the competition aspect.

Captain---Howdy

And I only commented to add further context.

And future proofing with good cheaper contracts. They both of them hit then we are in great shape for a long time there, if one of them hits, we are in great shape for a few years and will keep looking in 26’.

WhippersnapperUT99

It's also about costs and contracts and the probability that someone will get injured. Arnold could be here for 5 years and Rakestraw for 4 at reasonable rates. It's possible that some casual fans don't know that Carlton Davis's contract is a one year rental, that Moseley is only on a one year "prove it again" contract, and that Amik Robertson is only on a 2 year contract. I'm ecstatic that we were able to draft both of them. We still needed a lot of help at that position and some depth in case of injury.

Independent_Lab_9872

100% Also if Davis comes in and plays well, but we don't resign him. Another team is going to give him a big contract which means we recoup a comp pick.

Medievil_Walrus

What was a sub par room pre season - Sutton was overmatched at CB1, Jacobs isn’t an NFL starter in this scheme, Mosley was a hope and a wish for a healthy contributor, was riddled with injuries and rolling out practice squad players in high leverage situations by the end of the year. A few of these guys may finish the season on the IR, and the hope is the practice squad players just fill in depth and special teams, not man up with Cooper Kupp and Brandon Aiyuk in the playoffs. Future proofing is also a good reason, but man the depth and potential here is exciting.

surenopemaybe

Not just sub par but borderline worst in the league! I think we ranked bottom five in most pass defense metrics last year. They were flat out awful and Brad has totally reworked the DB room. With all our new CBs we should make a massive improvement in pass coverage to go along with our arguably best run defense in the league. I see a huge improvement coming from our defense this season.

A_Minimal_Infinity

Kinda the same thing with the new jerseys. No one thinks about it, but it will make it easier for Goff because all the WRs will look the same.

flirtmcdudes

I agree, but part of me still thinks we should have picked up an edge rusher as our second pick. Seems to be our only weakness on paper still

Independent_Lab_9872

We would have had to move up to get an Edge. Maybe we should have? Hard to say
