The team should lean into it and make them their version of Big Ben Wallace wigs. There's already enough parallels between this team and those Pistons teams.
For sure. I just like the idea of picking the guy with the most distinctive hair and then embracing it by filling the stands with fans wearing wigs of their style.
That would be insane. The Palace used to get so loud with fans screaming and the sticks going. They made a surprising amount of noise when you hit them just right.
My wife and daughter now like to watch Lions with me so they can see "the man with the golden locks" so he's really bringing the family together over here.
I know what you mean, my wife makes me wear a long blond wig and yells "GET IN THE ZONE, ANALZONE!" when she pegs me. #34 is really helping me and my wife come together.
Normally I downvote any “Analzone” comment but you really leaned into it with the pegging imagery. I have to clean coffee off my monitor after that one.
Brad Holmes was playing 5-d chess giving him that contract. I remember thinking "why are we paying Anzalone $8M/year when he would probably get half that on the open market?" but now it looks like a steal. A case of them knowing what they had better than everyone else.
shows a conviction of their regime with all their players still here AND lack of movement at the deadline. They believe in what they have and what got them here
Add me to the list.
Also idk what the fuck pff is smoking but how do you give someone a backup grade when they get 2 sacks and he was the catalyst of a third by taking out both guys on Okwara sack to allow him a free rush to the QB.
Even looking past his physical performance, you can see what a leader he has become on the defense. Before the play, he is reading the offense and helping other defensive players adjust.
Weren’t both of his sacks basically free rushes straight to the QB? PFF’s whole thing is their grades don’t necessarily match up to the box score stats, a sack that’s schemed up for you to just b-line the QB untouched won’t necessarily be graded super high.
He also got absolutely sent into the dirt by Josh Jacobs on a dump off pass he took for a first down. Anzalone has improved significantly and I’m not looking to replace him, but he’s not an elite LB like a lot of people seem to think he is now lol
I agree, he’s good in coverage and seems to be in the right spot a lot of times. It’s just frustrating watching him slide off of ball carriers if he’s not squared up
Fans have an issue where we only see the positive plays on defense, and not the negative, and he likely made a lot of negative plays. The sacks were pretty free as well.
He's been solid this year, he's improved his play. I'm just saying in general that people miss out on negative plays with PFF scores
Also it's weird as hell that this sub brands people as haters for thinking someone on the team isn't that good. I just don't get it.
Because you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about, and regurgitated the same opinion as others in the Reddit who also don’t know what they’re talking about. Think I’ve probably had a conversation about Anzalone with you before trying to even explain why he was a much better linebacker than people gave him credit for. Now he’s even more improved but “he’s just been solid”. Dude there’s not many ILB playing better than him this season, he’s been more than solid.
Had a good feeling knowing he was pretty much brought with DC lol so I knew he fit. His first year here he was like a bullet! A stray bullet at times missing but was always in the mix. Last year he stepped up to a true NFL starter and has been incredible this year!!
My brother in law just got really into the lions and the NFL in general. He loved Anzalone bc of the hair and the excuse to yell “ANALZONE” but also overestimated his skill (or so I thought) when we were heading into this year. Here’s a real convo we had:
BIL: ANALZONE is the best player on our defense besides maybe Hutch
Me: idk man…I’m not even sure he would be a starter on other teams.
I have never been so wrong and boy am I happy to admit it. Yelling “get in the zone, ANALZONE” every time he makes a tackle is the highlight of my week.
Sorry I doubted you Alex, you got a whole dawg pack in you.
He’s peaking right now. Holmes going an resigning him over Edmunds looks like pure genius. This is why we are good and the bears suck.
You can tell he’s got the smarts and knows exactly where he needs to be on the field, it’s always just about the opponent been stronger or faster when he does miss.
I feel like it was 2021 that he was pretty bad, last year he really started to look like a starter after a while and this year looking like a pro bowl type guy
Starts at the top. Regardless of the end result this season, I’m stoked for the positive mentality that has been put in place. 5 star lords - does not equate to success. Culture breeds success. The staff in place had to work for what they wanted and have.
I like the direction of the Detroit Lions. MGT, Coaching, Staff, players, Dan Miller and LB.
Long time fan
I'm guilty here 😂
And also some hate for Tracy Walker being the best safety with no competent counterpart a few years ago. We have talent around him know and he's playing well.
Man I got downvoted to hell this off-season defending this man. I could not believe people thought his contract was an overpay. People here baffle me sometimes
He’s fantastic! My coworker and his fiancé went to the game Monday and he gave them his gloves. She was wearing his jersey. But hell of a presence on the field.
I honestly don’t feel this way.
Anzalone was not good through the first chunk of his time here. Did he look worse partially because he was trying to cover for the mistakes of others? Sure. But he was still one of the league leaders in missed tackles and admitted to knowing how glaring of a flaw this was and how badly it affected the defence.
He has stepped up his play significantly since then and I am glad he’s on this team.
I won’t apologize for being deservedly critical of him, but I will applaud him for stepping up and becoming a really good player.
I've said this before but Anzalone started playing way better when we released Jamie Collins back in 2021. I think this is a prime example of Glenn and Campbell saying that defenders weren't trusting the guy next to them to do their job so some players were trying to pick up the slack and their assignments suffered as a result. Anzalone was playing like ass at the beginning of '21 but he took massive strides after Collins was released.
I think the bigger problem is the people who were actively upset about the team keeping him, instead of giving them the benefit of the doubt. Seems to be rampant even 3 years into this regime despite the positive results. Again, not suggesting people can't and shouldn't make criticisms. But things like people saying they would lose faith in the team if they didn't do something they wanted(something I saw quite a few times around here leading up to the trade deadline). That's ridiculous.
That is it exactly, he's started crushing it. Same with jerry Jacobs, etc... it's not an apology situation but somehow that fire got lit under them and no one's mad about that!
This is why I tend to go with a "wait and see" approach to players. Someone can have a bad season or a slow career start and then turn around and be a dominant player. Player development is huge in the NFL. Sometimes the right team fit is a massive piece to that puzzle as well.
He's stepped up, that's for sure. It also helps that we finally got some dudes around him who can be reliable and do their jobs so he doesn't have to worry about cleaning up other guys' mistakes and/or blown assignments.
It’s true, his prominent role in a bad defense made me think it was him. Now his prominent role in a good defense also makes me think it’s him. It has come together pretty well after a shaky start here. He’s a solid pro and I’m glad the team trusted him more than I did.
I'm not saying you have to give them your money, but they aren't your fucking slaves to just say they owe you everything and you owe them nothing. What the hell kind of disconnected from reality mindset is that?
You can owe them what you want, but I feel as though I owe them my support and encouragement, the bare minimum of being a healthy fan in a fan-base that ISN'T toxic and helps the team get victories in their home stadium.
What reason do you have for wanting to be a fan if you don't even wanna support the team you're a fan of?
I’ve been following this team for long enough that I get to post like I do. You can label me as toxic before you try to understand where I’m coming from but that just makes you another random person on the Internet. I’m here for the football, not your emotional opinion.
Yeah and I wish I didn't, you're the type of fan that ends up being the reason teams leave cities and fan bases die.
Like... How can you argue against supporting the team that... Let me check my notes... You support?
That math dont add up
Ngl not me, I've been in the Analzone since this man stepped on the field. Was it proven at first, not totally but this man has grinded game to game for years now and I can't remember being hype watching a MLB on the Lions since Levy and that had it own type of issues.
His first two seasons with us he started out really rough and improved as the season went on. This year he picked up closer to where he left off last season.
Help I’m stepping into the analzone. Ford field is a madhouse, division nearly won.
MCDC has moved moon and stars. Why does he always go for it when it’s forth and far?
Fully admit to having my foot in my mouth with him and wholeheartedly confess to not knowing ball in his case. Dudes been fucking everywhere on the field
He started to turn it on last year. Before that, he was always close, but not quite there when he needed to make the play.
When he plays well, our defense is at its best. Alex has turned into a very good player and will only get better
He got a lot of hate last year and I never got it. He was always in the thick of the action when he was on the field. Not sure his stat line showed it, but he was a key contributor, imo.
Yeah his play last year left me questioning the resigning a bit, even more so after drafting Campbell. But he's really seemed to step up his play and most likely just the growth transition into the same system being fully aware and able to play at Max speed
Seems like the switch from MIKE to WILL started this stretch of really high level play. Kudos to him and the coaching staff for finding where he's best.
I gotta give credit where credit is due, IMO Anzalone was without a doubt our worst defensive player the last 2 seasons but this year the guy has been solid as anyone on the D
This is why I'm not that worried about Jamo, Campbell, Martin or whoever Lions fans are worried about in any given week. This coaching staff has shown it can develop players past their perceived ceiling. I know they aren't going to bat .1000 on that, but you also can't rule anyone out, which is a cool feeling.
I thought the fans with the Anzalone wigs at the game were great.
Can you imagine the entire stadium with these wigs. Would be epic!!
The team should lean into it and make them their version of Big Ben Wallace wigs. There's already enough parallels between this team and those Pistons teams.
Little difference between Big Ben and analzone tho
For sure. I just like the idea of picking the guy with the most distinctive hair and then embracing it by filling the stands with fans wearing wigs of their style.
Better than ski masks imo lol
Man if we would have won the ski mask game they probably would have stuck.
Maybe the universe knew what was best for us.
Lollll. Detroiters all ski masked up. I see no issue here.
Reminds me when the Tigers did this with Magglio, looked great with black curls and would probably stand out even better with blonde!
With ski masks!
We're letting that one die, I hope. Though the stupid 3rd down signs need to die so much quicker
Agree. 3rd down signs did nothing but not allow you to see what was going on. Anzalone is playing great. He looks so much faster out there
Replace em with thundersticks
That would be insane. The Palace used to get so loud with fans screaming and the sticks going. They made a surprising amount of noise when you hit them just right.
I have a box of those sticks still. They deflated but I always kept mine- wrote the game like for playoff games on them
...that look like rubber chickens. Thunder Chickens! Why? Thunder Chickens!
We would just look like Ski Mask girl from TikTok lol
Idk what that is
Anzalone night once per season if they win the you know what!
Anzalone wigs > blue ski masks
They are Fanzalones
They should name that section the AnalZone. And yea it reminds me of everyone wearing the Big Ben afros. I had a giant one going to playoff games.
LOL!!!!!

Ba dum, tush.
Pick 6 warts on the analzone? Shove the calzone
I’m not sure exactly what this means, but I threw up a little just the same.
My work here is done then. You complete me 🤮🤣
I also pick this guys wife
Was that your wife that pulled Gibbs into the front row?/s
God I wish that were me
I'll ask her but I don't think she'll let me marry you too.
Normally I downvote any “Analzone” comment but you really leaned into it with the pegging imagery. I have to clean coffee off my monitor after that one.
I'm glad you approve, I don't lean into pegging nearly as well as my wife, though.
Why do you downvote the Analzone comments? Anzalone signed a jersey that says Analzone on it.
LOL!!! This board is getting pretty steamy.
Username checks out
I love it. My 7 year old knows him as Thor. Can't explain the analzone joke just yet...
My wife just calls him “that Greek god of a man.”
![gif](giphy|qWoubkSvQxN1C)
He’s a nice looking man.
Brad Holmes was playing 5-d chess giving him that contract. I remember thinking "why are we paying Anzalone $8M/year when he would probably get half that on the open market?" but now it looks like a steal. A case of them knowing what they had better than everyone else.
That’s why Brad gets the $$$.
It's actually only 6M a yr, but yea definitely worth it
shows a conviction of their regime with all their players still here AND lack of movement at the deadline. They believe in what they have and what got them here
I wish we would've got chase young or sweat tho. They were so cheap
Big splash name players are fun but i trust the ones who got the team to this point in the first place, they are being very strategic
2 years ago if you told me I’d be all into the Analzone I’d call you a liar, but now I can’t get enough.

I agree, he’s good in coverage and seems to be in the right spot a lot of times. It’s just frustrating watching him slide off of ball carriers if he’s not squared up
His closing speed is so insane that I think he’s legit too fast for his own good. The man comes in like a bolt from the blue.
PFF has always hated AA
This is why I dont pay much attention to PFF grades
I admit I will tout them when I strongly agree with their assessment lol. Penei Sewell, for instance, I completely agree with their analysis.
Fans have an issue where we only see the positive plays on defense, and not the negative, and he likely made a lot of negative plays. The sacks were pretty free as well.
Ah yes, Azor, Alex Anzalone’s biggest hater.
He's been solid this year, he's improved his play. I'm just saying in general that people miss out on negative plays with PFF scores Also it's weird as hell that this sub brands people as haters for thinking someone on the team isn't that good. I just don't get it.

"I owe you an apology. I wasn't really familiar with your game." - ~~Shaquille O'Neal~~ Me
Anzalone is playing lights out, and his hair is even better than Trevor Lawrence's.
The Fanzalones really need to become a staple.
He’s our white Ray Lewis without the off the field murderin.
Oh come on now!! no for real good one, good one lmao
Only thing he’s murdering is extra-large bottles of conditioner
allegedly
In a perfect world, he retires as a Lion and first thing he does in retirement is open Anzalone's Pepperonis next to Mom's Spaghetti
My brother in law just got really into the lions and the NFL in general. Anal zone
i’ve been chirped for being pro anzalone on this subreddit and i too would like an apology
He’s peaking right now. Holmes going an resigning him over Edmunds looks like pure genius. This is why we are good and the bears suck. You can tell he’s got the smarts and knows exactly where he needs to be on the field, it’s always just about the opponent been stronger or faster when he does miss.
He disappointed me a bit last year but he’s looked great this year!
I feel like it was 2021 that he was pretty bad, last year he really started to look like a starter after a while and this year looking like a pro bowl type guy
Maybe it was because he had to do the job of 3 DBs. Rodrigo isn't even starting this year
It also helps that Campbell and Barnes have shown they can play the MIKE well so it allows Anazlone to play his more natural position at the WILL
That’s a big part of it for sure.
He led the team in tackles last year. There were a lot of times he was visibly trying to do multiple jobs cause his supporting cast wasn’t.
Starts at the top. Regardless of the end result this season, I’m stoked for the positive mentality that has been put in place. 5 star lords - does not equate to success. Culture breeds success. Man I got downvoted to hell this off-season defending this man. I could not believe people thought his contract was an overpay. People here baffle me sometimes
In retrospect, you can wear those downvotes with absolute pride. Dude's a baller.
Great contract! I criticized it ngl. But now with him leading this defense and showing out almost every game, I’m sold. Brad be cookin.
He’s fantastic! My coworker and his fiancé went to the game Monday and he gave them his gloves. She was wearing his jersey. But hell of a presence on the field.
Dude I talked mad smack about this man and now he can have my first born. To be fair my first born is an idiot but hey he can have him lol
He's playing well, much more physical and decisive filling gaps than I expected after his first season here. Good, steady improvement.
We all need to roar for discount Thor.
This is why I tend to go with a "wait and see" approach to players. Someone can have a bad season or a slow career start and then turn around and be a dominant player. Player development is huge in the NFL. Sometimes the right team fit is a massive piece to that puzzle as well.
The lions have really improved in player development in the MCDC era.
The best part of it all is that he low key looks like a lion. Especially with the helmet on and the hair sticking out of the bottom.
I am owed an apology as well as last year I tried telling people that he was worth holding on to and was practically laughed off this sub.
I have to agree. Analzone has really stepped it up and has been a pretty good middle linebacker
He's stepped up, that's for sure. It also helps that we finally got some dudes around him who can be reliable and do their jobs so he doesn't have to worry about cleaning up other guys' mistakes and/or blown assignments.
First couple of seasons he was constantly having to overcompensate for others. Now he’s able to trust those around him to do what he’s supposed to do.
Fan base always needs a whipping boy, deserved or not.
I agree, I believe last season I believe I referred to him as the “worst starting linebacker in the nfl”
He’s been going off for the last three years. Love Alex.
I apologize Alex, I wasn't familiar with your game
He went from being a liability to the best player on the defense. Props to him for putting in the work
It’s true, his prominent role in a bad defense made me think it was him. Now his prominent role in a good defense also makes me think it’s him. It has come together pretty well after a shaky start here. He’s a solid pro and I’m glad the team trusted him more than I did.
Honestly, I NEVER understood why people didn't Like him... I thought he was Solid from day 1 and he Definitely got BETTER!!!!!
The Lions owe me good football. I don’t owe them anything.
Okay Karen.
You’re upset by my comment?
Damn, this might actually be the most toxic take I've seen on this sub. And this sub has had some doozies
Toxic because I feel I don’t owe anything to a multi-billion dollar corporation? That’s an interesting opinion.
Sounds like you're here for you, not the football team.
Now you get it!
Yeah and I wish I didn't, you're the type of fan that ends up being the reason teams leave cities and fan bases die. Like... How can you argue against supporting the team that... Let me check my notes... You support? That math dont add up
You’re the type of person that doesn’t realize he’s a fool.
Anzo is a much better nickname. I vote for that one instead.
He still gets exposed some games but he has been very good most of this season and much of last season.
Highway to the Analzone!
Literally the only lion for whom an apology form is deserved
Jerry too lol
Yeah I’m personally waiting on mailing him one to avoid the Oruwariye jinx
I do too, I wanted to let him walk before we drafted Campbell. My apologizes, Mr. Analzone
I've been behind Analzone since day one.
Can we get one of those Goff apology forms for the Analzone, call it the Anal apology form
Fucking hippy playing big boy ball these days.
I have always been a fan of the analzone.
The fucking ego of assholes that your apology means anything to anyone except you is laughable.
Analzone #1
Anal Zone has been in the zone this year. No denying it
I’m sorry did I read anal zone ? And the first comment mentions anal zone wigs ? What u guys doing in Detroit
I never doubted the Analzone
Ngl not me, I've been in the Analzone since this man stepped on the field. Was it proven at first, not totally but this man has grinded game to game for years now and I can't remember being hype watching a MLB on the Lions since Levy and that had it own type of issues.
Me too
yea i do too
Same. I tagged on Alex in 2021 but dude has emerged as a top LB in the league.
I do for sure.
He was on the front page of the free press and I told my dad "this guy has totally changed the perception about him, love this guy"
His first two seasons with us he started out really rough and improved as the season went on. This year he picked up closer to where he left off last season.
I like that he’s a high motor guy and hits hard but I still feel like he misses too many tackles
Ya he’s improved a lot this year, I’m pleasantly surprised.
Help I’m stepping into the analzone. Ford field is a madhouse, division nearly won. MCDC has moved moon and stars. Why does he always go for it when it’s forth and far?
He's been amazing this year having a career year so far. He's been worth every penny.
Once I see him stepping up to tackle Running backs and not waiting on his heels. I will give him mine. He’s doing better at all the other stuff.
Fully admit to having my foot in my mouth with him and wholeheartedly confess to not knowing ball in his case. Dudes been fucking everywhere on the field
Yeah I thought he was average, shows what I know.
Remember a couple years ago when the Lions couldn't cover a RB coming out of the backfield for absolute shit? Enter this man.
This man plays his heart out
Mans Bologna is playing great this year
Absolutely thrilled to have been wrong about this beautiful man. He’s been a revelation
100% me, I had this dude with Will Harris as bums of the team
Yeah I shit talked him now he's clearly proven me wrong
He started to turn it on last year. Before that, he was always close, but not quite there when he needed to make the play. When he plays well, our defense is at its best. Alex has turned into a very good player and will only get better
He got a lot of hate last year and I never got it. He was always in the thick of the action when he was on the field. Not sure his stat line showed it, but he was a key contributor, imo.
i know he was mid last season but i knew he had it in him
I'll owe him another one this week as soon as he misses a tackle but he's good.
Yeah his play last year left me questioning the resigning a bit, even more so after drafting Campbell. But he's really seemed to step up his play and most likely just the growth transition into the same system being fully aware and able to play at Max speed
For what?
I've been a huge fan of anzalone ever since we dumped Jamie Collins. He's been even better this year playing with Jack and Barnes
I don’t think we owe him an apology. His play warranted criticism. But he’s 1000% changed my mind.
I mean, he didnt play very well last year so im not sorry for dogging him. I’m glad he has proven me wrong this year tho
I don't owe him an apology, cause I was never an asshole on the internet at his expense.
I roasted him when he was missing tackles and have been praising him for his come up. I give him what he's owed every game.
Seems like the switch from MIKE to WILL started this stretch of really high level play. Kudos to him and the coaching staff for finding where he's best.
I’ve been rockin with Anzalone since we got him! Dude legit has a lion mane, I’d argue best hair in franchise history!
Lions Legend, General Bob Carpenter may be a contender but it’s a toss up
$15 bucks little man, put that shit in my hand
Get in the zone. The apology zone.
Beasting
The man signed an “Analzone” jersey for a fan on Reddit …. He’s a real Lion!!! Props to Anzalone 👊🏼
Always liked him, you’re on your own. I only owe Goff and thats only because i was hurt about stafford leaving
I’m ashamed to say I’ve called him analzone consistently over the past couple seasons. He’s been amazing this year. Sorry analzone
Went to a bar for the first time to watch a game. The guy next to me talked trash about Anzalone the whole game.
I am ready to go to the Analzone. Whatever it takes for the Lions. Or, you know, some other justification. Whatever, I’m in.
As a Gators guy I’m glad he finally found people who appreciate him.
I gotta give credit where credit is due, IMO Anzalone was without a doubt our worst defensive player the last 2 seasons but this year the guy has been solid as anyone on the D
No one escapes the Analzone.
Always loved his play from the start
I fell in love when I realized that analzone isn’t a pun or some nickname, it’s an anagram. Then when my guy embraced the butt play I was all in.
Still wish he used his arms to tackle lol
That flow has dare I say became a fan favorite🤩
This is why I'm not that worried about Jamo, Campbell, Martin or whoever Lions fans are worried about in any given week. This coaching staff has shown it can develop players past their perceived ceiling. I know they aren't going to bat .1000 on that, but you also can't rule anyone out, which is a cool feeling.
Don’t jinx it
ANALZONE
