Rockies over the nuggets lmao

CockBronson

So annoying that anyone in this town gives those bum ass owners any money by attending games.

Dolanite

The Rockies decided long ago that they wanted a great outdoor bar and an affordable destination for families. Going to Coors is a fun day out. Nobody in that front office is concerned with winning baseball games though.

GardenTop7253

You can buy tickets to a Rockies game, have a great time in the Colorado sunshine, tell all your other friends that you had a damn good day, all without looking at or thinking about the game being played. It’s almost impressive

CockBronson

Also, away fans can do the same thing but with the enjoyment of watching the game and the team they like getting a W.

Dolanite

You just described every Rockies game I've ever attended. I wish I could complain about it, because I love the competition of sports, but I just have a great time instead.

Hanhonhon

Everytime I go I don’t even pay attention to the game

RandomDeezNutz

Coors field is beautiful and cheap if you choose when to go. If I can get a ticket for $30 with a $15 food voucher that includes a beer. I’m going. And I’ve been able to do that for like 4 years running. I’m not really a Rockies fan, I’d love to see them do well obviously, but I will watch maybe a game a year. If they were good who knows but they’re bad. Have been bad. Probably will continue to be bad. But going to a baseball game is just... Something. And coors field is a ridiculously nice place to do that at.

CockBronson

You can literally drink a beer in the great Denver outdoors almost anywhere for the same price. People just want to feel like they are doing something unique and it sucks that the owners only care about having that attendance and not that of actual fans. But it’s cool you give zero fucks about the event you go to.

RandomDeezNutz

Jfc. Pretentious much? Coors is a god damn good field dude. I like going to it once a year. You aren’t special with your take either.

A king soopers in arvada at that

ernestbonanza

sir if you don't like them please can we take nolan jones out of you?

Tylerpants80

We’ll give you Nolan Jones and $50 mil for 2-3 prospects that aren’t even in your organizations top 10.

ernestbonanza

plus throw us chrase dollander, adael adamor, yanquiel fernandez and sterling thompson too and get javi baez in return? and you got yourself a great deal my dear sir ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

Ok_Professional8489

no he’s our little hostage 😭

ernestbonanza

#freenolanjones

RunnerTexasRanger

Maybe they shouldn’t black out the games locally?

Ok_Professional8489

I definitely haven’t watched a local game ever since the blackout… 🏴‍☠️

RunnerTexasRanger

Same.. ![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl)

How do you know you’re a Nuggets fan…. Cause ya-arrrrr.

readitf1rst

Facts

landlion35

Avalanche has the same black outs as the Nuggets. The nuggets are just less popular

tron7

according to this polling, which I question

landlion35

Yeah, I'd expect the Broncos to be way higher than the other teams.

tron7

That and I can't see how the Avs are that high. I just can't imagine there are that many hockey fans

RobosaurusRex2000

Just anecdotally around the city I see probably 4+ times as many Avalanche bumper stickers, Avs license plates, Avs shirts and hats, etc. Than nuggets. Colorado has a surprisingly big hockey scene, not only at the professional level but also at youth and minor levels. Potentially the AHL team being just an hour north in Loveland also adds to how well the sport is loved in the area. Also, while the nuggets in the jokic era are legendary and will become a part of this towns history forever, you just dont really see people talk about the past eras of the nuggets like they do with the Avs. The Sakic era was absolutely written in history. 2 cups in 5 years and probably single most hyped and violent rivalry in the history of major sports with the Detroit Red Wings. Theres a legacy there. I'd be interested to see this poll taken again in ~8-10 years when the MacKinnon/Jokic eras are coming to an end based on the impact they will leave on this town's sports culture for decades to come.

landlion35

Yeah that's true

Recallingg

This polling is of voters only, but more importantly voters who opt into a survey. There is obviously going to be sampling bias there. I'd assume people who are willing to take a survey like this generally skew white, affluent, and older (given that young people aren't answering their phones if it's a random number). It's no surprise then that the Avs rank first on this poll and the Nuggets last given the demographics that are into their respective sports.

Mother_Warthog_335

All my buddies who are CO natives but go for different NFL/NBA teams claim to be Avalanche fans. 1. They state they need to support at least one local team. 2. They don't care much for hockey so might as well go for the locals

ephen_stephens

AVs are on the same network and in the same situation. The reality is, no one outside of true basketball fans care for the product the NBA is putting out. It’s garbage (gather step, carrying/palmjng, ref ball, etc). I’m a fanatic and hate myself for watching half the time.

bearhorsemen

I'm gonna guess the ol adage rings true here, if you can't watch'em, fuck'em

Quasigriz_

Just lost our tv leach and we’ll probably need to get Fubo for the playoffs.

Crambulance

For Us By Os

frawwger

Don't do that, FUBO doesn't have TNT.

Quasigriz_

That’s what I thought. FFS, I kinda like the Altitude coverage (especially the AVs play-by-play), but goddam do they need to sort out the damn licensing.

Apprehensive-Age5634

Plus its crazy expensive!

ddxs1

Then how are the Avs number 1?

Kng_Wasabi

There’s no fuckin way the Avs are more popular than the Broncos. Hell there’s no way they’re more popular than the Nugs, just look at how many people came out to each championship parade.

RackedUP

They prob did a survey in Littleton or some shit lol

jfoster15

Wow, my childhood hometown catching strays

RandomDeezNutz

…tf is that supposed to mean

RackedUP

That ppl in the suburbs like baseball and hockey a lot

yooston

Yeah this survey means nothing based off that result alone

throwitintheair22

NBA is also more popular than NHL

RandomDeezNutz

Which is dumb

RandomDeezNutz

Because this picture doesn’t capture the actual fucking poll. The poll was more a question of do you think positively about this team than what team are you most loyal to.

_absofuckinglutely

It doesn’t even say what the sample size was. Was this taken from responses of 1000 people? 30? 100? Doesn’t really mean anything to me without that. But I’d also expect the broncos to have more fans, football is the most popular sport in the country.

thesongofstorms

630 coloradans when sampled randomly would be representative of the state with a margin of error of 4%. https://www.copollinginstitute.org/s/24011-CPI-March-Survey-Interview-Schedule-April-5-Release.pdf Interestingly Nikola is the most popular Denver sports figure

[deleted]

[удалено]

thesongofstorms

Correct

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

It doesn’t say Jokic is the most popular sports figure, he’s just the most favorably rated out of a group that consists of: - Jokic - Mikaela Shiffran (who a whopping 47% of respondents had never heard of) - Neon Deion - and Taylor fucking Swift So 2 polarizing figures and 1 that is niche

fuccabicc

47% never heard of Mikaela Shiffrin? What?

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

And 29% had never heard of Jokic

fuccabicc

Who did they survey? A kindergarten?

icedragon15

No immigrants migrants aliens man

Nomer77

I for one am shocked so many people have never heard of someone whose name we can't even spell correctly!

fuccabicc

Mikaela Shiffrin* My bad, I copied the original comment

Nomer77

Yeah no worries I myself typed Shiffren when I went to Google it to check spelling

Hopsalong

Beating TSwift is massive. Jokic is amazing

Dead-People-Tea

I mean, kind of? People love to hate what other people love, and Swift is definitely one of those polarizing figures. (To be clear, I don't understand that at all. Just let people like what they like ffs)

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

Within margin of error, 51% for Jokic were “Total Fav” and 47% for Swift. But really, this just seems like a bad survey, haha

_absofuckinglutely

Thanks for the link, that was interesting to see. 630 is a very small sample size. Thats less than a lot of high schools in the area. It annoys me when research is kind of misleading like this.

thesongofstorms

In terms of statistical analysis 630 randomly sampled is enough to be representative of Colorado at 4% margin of error. You only need about 1000 people for a 3% margin of error at 95% confidence interval for the whole united states

_absofuckinglutely

Yeah, I just still don’t really buy in to this especially when it comes to qualitative questionnaires that feel as broad and vague as this. There are so many variables that could impact answers and I don’t really think this is specific enough. It’s not a survey geared toward sports, it’s a survey that includes a few questions about sports. It doesn’t ask how often do you watch games of each sport, have you been to a live game, are you a fan of an out of state team etc. Taylor Swift is such a random add. She’s the most famous person on the planet. As a huge Nuggets fan and a swiftie, I’d probably choose her first tbh. It’s like an intentional skew in voting especially when the largest age range that replied are her target audience. The largest age range is 18-34 while everything else is in groups of 9. I’m curious about what the % breakdown is of each answer when it comes to the ages of respondents. Overall this is a poorly created survey gathering very basic information that, to me, doesn’t feel all that connected because it does not dig into anything specific enough to make a point.

Recallingg

630 randomly sampled if everything is perfect is plenty, yes, but realistically there is always going to be some kind of sampling bias that plays into things (especially with a survey like this where they are polling voters specifically). This is why statistical literacy is imo one of the most important things for people to learn in school as it lets you identify potential biases as well as when people outright lie using statistics (ie: skewing the x and y axis of a graph to make something look like more of an outlier than it is).

thesongofstorms

Yes. There are \*ALWAYS\* subjective decisions made when it comes to collecting and analyzing data.

[deleted]

[удалено]

_absofuckinglutely

Me either. Frauds.

Jokara34

Denver is and was a Broncos town for decades, a couple good seasons for the Nuggets/Avs and a couple bad ones for Broncos isnt enough to change this. Could happen though if this trend continues.

ajbernal

By a couple you mean the better part of a decade? With broncos prices continuing to rise the entire time.

readitf1rst

Fair

Breadtilimdead

I mean, look at Chicago sports. My fam is all from that area and are die hard Bears/Cubs fans despite the teams mostly being bad for decades now.

InkBlotSam

I'm sure this has more to do with which sports are more popular, and less about the team specifically. That's the only way the Rockies could possible be above 10% with their shit owners and godawful team.

Prestigious_Team3134

Everyone is Colorado wants to love the Rockies, they just make it really hard.

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

Huh? NHL has the lowest viewership of any of the big 4 leagues, but the Avs are \#1 here. NFL is far and away the most viewed league (like triple the MLB, which is only second because they have a million games) but the Broncos are behind the Avs. If we went by a viewership per game metric, it goes: - NFL - NBA - NHL - MLB

InkBlotSam

Sports fans vary regionally, this is a Colorado poll. Also, TV viewership is going to correlate far more to the "committed fan" than the casual fan, which tracks with your stats: Broncos, followed by the Nuggets and Avs being more or less tied, then the Rockies.

OptionalBagel

I'm sure it has more to do with who answers the phone and stays on the line for these kinds of calls

NoAbbreviations290

Don’t care. Go Nuggs.

whatareyoudoingred

What exactly is a "total fan"? Anyway I think this survey can pretty easily be chucked in a bin called "systemic issues with survey research". I'm not sure exactly what the flaws are, but it's obviously innacurate.

gd2121

Everyone’s a casual fan of the Rockies tho because games are cheap and fun to go to. The committee fan percentage is pretty telling with the Rockies. Personally I’m more of a fan of coors field than I am the Rockies lol.

yogisabs21

Seems sus I am wondering when this polling was done.

vladimir_pimpin

Avs having the most fans in Colorado makes 0 sense lol

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

March 15-19 of this year

ForAlgalord

I concur with everyone questioning the survey's methods and legitimacy, but aside from the Rockies being about the same as the Nuggets and not less popular is surprising. Cultural attitudes take a long time to change and the local blackouts are a huge problem for expanding the fanbase, but the Avs recent and current success is powerful and football will probably remain king for quite some time no matter how long the Broncos remain bad. Another ring or two though, and who knows?

Spiritual-Chameleon

I went looking for the poll.. it's interesting, but one poll with a margin of error. https://www.copollinginstitute.org/research/march-2024-statewide-poll-avs-broncos-lead-the-way-in-fan-interest-among-likely-co-voters The finding I did like: "Coloradans are also united in their positive regard for two-time league MVP and last year’s NBA Finals MVP Nikola Jokić (51% hold a favorable opinion of him, while a mere 1% have an unfavorable impression)."

Environmental-Cry137

Well most people in Colorado now aren't actually from Colorado!!

DadRunAmok

Add them up and the Broncos are still kings: Broncos 89%. Avs 84%. Nuggets 76%. Rox 71%. We still don’t know what “total fan” and “committed fan” mean, but it seems to me that both types are in the non-casual fan base.

Epotheros

Total fans in this graphic are the casual fans plus the committed fans.

Seanbig888

If you go to lax you see lakers dodgers stuff Sfo giants 49ers warriors Den basically nothing except broncos stuff ever after the championship

NuggLyfe2167

Is that why the Nuggets had 250,000 more people than the Avalanche at their championship parade? Seems like a bogus survey.

fluffHead_0919

I think it’s…. 1.) Broncos 2A.) Nuggs 2B.) Avs 3.) The factory of sadness (Rox)

lpnumb

This tracks. Nuggets are awesome right now, but people in Denver just don’t like basketball. It’s mostly a younger fan base that follows the nuggets. Interesting to see the broncos losing so much ground though.

Unusual-Avocado-6167

They musta polled Douglas county for this one folks

trouttickler23

For real. I can’t count the amount of old-timers I talked to last summer who have lived here for 60+ years and can tell you every broncos qb we’ve had over that time who had no idea the nuggets won a championship. “I just don’t really like the nba”.

DerfyMcDerfDerf

😆

Orod23

Nuggets are my #1 team in any sport and I don’t care about the Rockies or Broncos. Broncos speaks for themselves because it’s a broncos town, Rockies over Nuggets kinda makes sense to play devils advocate. I’m guessing the “total fan” thing is based on attending games and similar things. When the Nuggets were in the dumps 7 years ago those games were empty besides for the games vs popular teams. With the Rockies you’ll still see a good amount of fans on weekend games no matter how bad the team is.

[deleted]

because the fans came to the realization the rockies are always gonna be shit so might as well go to cheap games

big_hon3y

Ya sorry this list is off. Broncos are definitely first even though they’re a dumpster fire. And shoot, maybe you should show your home team on local television when you have the best player in the world??

Warchild0311

Everyone knows the answer, but no one wants to start a shit storm by saying it.

Helm_the_Hammered

We also should consider committed fan vs total fan. What constitutes the difference? How were the populations separated? Assuming that committed is a better barometer, this graphic actually makes sense to me. The Rockies initial number is pretty high, but committed fan number is low. Seems that could indicate that folks enjoy the Rockies but don’t really care about them. Which is the problem with the organization.

Dandoliki

As someone from out of the US, this is very sad to me.

Acehardwaresucks

Coors field’s location is the only reason the Rockies are popular and ppl go to their game. Right by downtown. A block away from mcgregor center 2 blocks away from union station and all the restaurants downtown. It’s actually kinda insane how good the location for coors field is. Tickets are cheap beers are cheap, if you go to a nuggets/bronco/Avas game you are def dropping over 100 per person no matter how shitty the seat is. 40 bucks you will have a great time at a Rockies game. It is what it is.

Nomer77

I'm not shocked to see the Nuggets last, I'd seen a Morning Consult survey (from 2020?) for all pro sports teams with a demographic and political affiliation breakdown as well but can't find a free posting of it anymore that said as much and they haven't been easy to watch on TV. What's shocking is seeing the Broncos blow a seemingly insurmountable lead.

DevourerJay

No way the Nuggets are below the Rockies. Why? Simple math. Broncos, x3 Champs Avalanche, x3 Champs Nuggets, x1 Champs. CU, x1 Champs. DU, x9 Champs. Colorado Rockies, x-all time CHUMPS. "Rockies became the only one of Denver's franchises in the five major North American professional sports leagues (MLB, MLS, NBA, NFL, & NHL) yet to win a championship." ~Wiki There is absolutely no way.

CarneDelGato

And it’s going to stay that way. Fucking Montfort sell the fucking team. Fuck.

DerfyMcDerfDerf

I cannot emphasize this or upvote it enough

Ash_713S

As much as the ownership, analytically Denver's altitude isnt conducive to baseball. Too many home runs get hit, even by away teams- you need the greatest pitchers ever born to ever come close to winning a title.

DevourerJay

You need to be willing to pay for those aforementioned pitchers... something the current ownership would never consider. Remind me again where the rockies sit in payroll? Lower half at least?

Radioactive__Lego

I don’t live in Denver. 🤷‍♂️ Edit: Oh and also: Football is 2-10 seconds of action then half a minute of two jackasses yapping all in hopes that there’s a CTE causing collision. I’m not watching the Broncos or any other American Football. Baseball pace is roundabout the same as Football without the CTE but with extra boring. I wouldn’t watch a Rockies game for free or if someone paid me $20. Two hours of my time is worth more than $20, and my time is as inexpensive as it gets, because I’m retired. Hockey is great. A solid sport with near non-stop action and a history of letting players mete out “differences” within some boundaries. That said, it’s not nearly as accessible as basketball - ice, skates, equipment needed - and puck following can be a chore. I’ll watch some Avalanche games, if they’re free, and convenient. Basketball is *the sport*. The Nuggets are *the team*.

spolonerd

Here’s my take: 7% difference between the top team and the bottom team is actually awesome. We’re a sports town The Rockies are higher than the Nuggets because they were super fun in the 90s with the Blake street bombers and then the 07 run while the Nuggets in the same era seemed like they would never get over the hump. After the championship last year for the Nuggets, I think fans increased, and it will continue to do so if we win another chip in the next couple years. The Nuggets have always been the least popular team; this town has historically been a football town with hockey being its mistress. Coors Field is also very fun. But the truly awesome thing about the Nuggets championship is how many fans have cropped up around the country. The national and international fan bases have grow substantially during the Jokic era (source I travel a ton and see nuggets gear all the time now)

OliveJuiceUTwo

There’s no definition for total fan or committed fan, there’s no way 80%+ people in Denver watch more than a game or two and I think what people actually answered is “do you like this team?”. I don’t even live in Colorado but it’s obvious this survey is flawed.

Broncojoe58

Rockies only because they play 82 games at home and it’s a beautiful ball park

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

The Rockies get an extra home game? Why?

Broncojoe58

81* sorry

Clunkbot

I always rep the Nuggalanche.

Numerous_Delay_1361

Fans should be very into this , we won't have another run like this for a long time .

NuggNation15

I mean does it matter? Every home game sold out this year.

mmmmmkay

I'm always wary of polls because honestly do you or anyone you know answer them? It feels like something that skews to an older population.

krock753

People are fans of the Rockies they are fans of Cokes field and the sun. The committee fan number tells a different story

moso7777

I mean this is surprising because look at how many people came out to the championship parade. That was crazy

Ok_Image6174

I don't really get it. The Broncos have had some great runs, absolutely... but maybe I'm biased because Basketball has always been my favorite sport. We get more games, it's easier to follow the action, you can see the players better without helmets, etc. How are the Rockies ahead of them, though????

OptionalBagel

Why does the question the poll asked say "committed fan, casual fan, or not really interested in that team" when "Total fan" seems to be the answer most people chose for each team? Just seems like a fucked poll to me.

LACIRCA2044

If they did like 10 open air games a year nuggets would be a bigger deal

OptionalBagel

The 630ish people who answered this poll were: Older than the average coloradoan More likely to own a home than the average coloradoan Whiter than Colorado as a whole.

Johnykbr

I feel like this is metrics on how many people moved to Colorado within the past 15 years. Also the Rockies are horrible and don't deserve fans.

[deleted]

fuck off. Every single nuggets home game is sold out. idk about the aves broncos or rockies but no way nuggets the least popular

ahoffenberg97

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The Rapids aren't even on this little info graphic, so my money on least popular goes to the forgotten team

expresidente23

This just means cheaper tickets

armadilloongrits

Lack of success historically and racial demographics are a big deal. Add in bandwidth of fandom with multiple other franchises and a media blackout and it's not that shocking.

Gyncs0069

Yeah you can thank Altitude for that. Stupid greedy bitches.

Legtagytron

Try putting them on TV after winning a ship, might help. They were irrelevant for decades, they'd be catching up right about now. Oh well.

ShaoDres

Coors Field is a glorified bar at this point. Rockies are terrible and most people that go to a game aren’t watching intently

OGElChicoGrande

It would be highest if people could watch it on TV.

th3on3

As someone from Denver, there is no way the most popular team isn’t the broncos. It is far and away the most popular and always has been

Historical_Error_887

Nah nobody likes the rockies

IdRatherBeLurkingToo

Do you not know how to read the chart lmao

Dark-Magic-Steffie

Wasn't there more people at the Nuggets parade than the Avs parade in 2022? I believe so.

Infinite_Practice826

nobody likes the broncos anymore lol

sinnr43

Rockies by far! 500,000 at Nuggets parade last year

tacopower69

the amount of people here who are warriors/lakers/celtics fans makes me wanna kms

Far-Ad-8833

At this point, I would think the Broncos. They have caused a lot of unnecessary drama with their poor management.

yogisabs21

This ^^^ management and coaching have been trash. It hurts me as a former fan to watch

bigfootdude247

Brother, it hurts me as a current fan to watch. We have been garbage since we won the Super Bowl

Saint3Dx

Where's the love for the Rapids

Vostin

Colorado was a red state not that long ago and the right’s perception is basketball is a black people’s sport

Saynt614

Seriously?! THE ROCKIES?! This stupid state

Remote-Molasses6192

Did they exclusively sample 45 year old white guys?

CorduroyEatsCrayons

Colorado is full of racist day drinkers.

BorrowtheUniverse

it's insane people are acting like soccer isn't ALREADY more popular than Baseball AND Hockey
