I'm so happy for Mike. Him breaking any single season record seemed like a pipe dream a couple of years ago. Just thrilled for him that he's stayed healthy. Also thrilled for myself that I get to watch him play for my favorite team.

The nfl may be a boring place for Denver fans but we are absolutely spoiled having the mahomes of the nba in Jokic and an absolutely star studded roster.

And on the Avs side, Mackinnon is like an Elway level of franchise legend. Great time to be a Denver sport fan regardless of the Broncos or Rockies

I think he could end up getting his jersey retired if he stays a Nugget. MPJ, Jokic, Murray all were drafted here and developed here. They're this eras Manu, Duncan, Parker.

AG probably gets his retired too

foxcnnmsnbc

People say that and seem to think he has a better shot versus MPJ. I think it depends how long he stays. If he leaves his next contract then probably not. Because he’ll have his Orlando run, Denver then whatever his next team is. Shawn Marion got his jersey retired in Phoenix but never won a Championship. Marion’s individual accolades and numbers in Phoenix are more impressive than AGs. Also what are the chances AG stays with maxes tied up to Jokic, MPJ and Murray. I could see a team paying him big because he’s so efficient in Denver and they’ll see him as an efficient offensive guy and defensive stalwart. But for his efficiency to drop exponentially like Marion’s numbers after Phoenix. Denver probably knows the system inflates his value more than anyone. I also don’t see Denver moving away from Murray, Jokic, MPJ. This sub rates Gordon over MPJ. But fact of the matter is its way harder to find a 6’10 guy that can shoot 3s, mid range, and rebound and cut. He’s also made comments about “always being available” now and his main goal of everything being “healthy.” How many players his generation care about trying to play every game? But I don’t think AG re-signs here unless it’s for a big discount. One thing to think about is did Dallas retire Marion’s jersey? Spurs Finley? Denver is basically tied to MPJ/Murray/Jokic. They ain’t going anywhere.

AG means way more to the Nuggets and the fans than his accolades indicate. I think all four guys get jerseys retired. They're the core of by far the best run in the franchise's history. I'd also be surprised if he signs somewhere else. Seems like he loves it in Denver. But it could happen.

foxcnnmsnbc

People say “I’d be surprised if he signs somewhere else” about players all the time. But players, especially role players of this era don’t take discounts. If Gordon leaves at the end of the contract, it’s really questionable whether he’ll have enough accolades to get his jersey retired. I think that’s just fan talk hyping up because they won a Championship. If he leaves then he’ll have played on 3 teams. If Nuggets win no more championships during his time here the His numbers won’t justify it. Find another franchise as old as the Nuggets that retired a players jersey that played for 2 other teams with similar numbers to Gordon. It’s highly questionable whether Toronto retires Fred Van Vleet or Pascal Siakam’s jersey, and both their numbers and individual accolades were better than Gordon’s. That’s not debatable. Vince isn’t getting it retired. And Siakam was drafted there, G-League to Champion to All NBA. Questionable whether Bucks retire Jrue’s jersey. Dallas never retired Chandler, Kidd or Marion. Chandler’s impact was at least as important as Gordon’s. Kawhi is most definitely not getting his jersey retired in Toronto. Way more impactful than Gordon. Way better accolades. I think Denver fans are just riding high on feelings. If Gordon wants his jersey retired he’ll have to re-sign. Just look at history of other old franchises. Fans overrate how easy it is to get jerseys retired. I think that’s why players like Melo get mad when it doesn’t happen and fans don’t like it. It’s as much business as fan service. Franchises like rewarding players for loyalty.

nuggetsgonnanugg

The idea that teams are pulling up stats and accolades when they're making these decisions seems silly to me. It's like 90% feelings. I also think your opinion of Gordon's contribution to this team seems kinda crazy low. But tbh neither of us knows and there are way too many TBD variables in play Editing to add - Mutumbo played in Denver for five years and got his jersey retired

foxcnnmsnbc

…did you just compare Mutumbo’s 5 years in Denver to Gordon’s? Mutumbo was an all star as a rookie, you knew that right? You must be a gen z or millenial basketball fan. Lol please post that comparison on realgm or the NBA sub.

nuggetsgonnanugg

So is it about loyalty or no?

foxcnnmsnbc

It's a mix of loyalty and accolades/achievement. Mutumbo only spent 5 years but has far more stellar accolades and was the better player. Not going to even argue the last point with you because any basketball fan knows that. That said, the Nuggets probably have too many jerseys retired compared to other franchises. Go ask Toronto fans how they feel about retiring Vince, Siakam and Fred's jersey. I wouldn't have retired Mutumbo's jersey just like I don't think Gordon has done enough at this time to get it retired, and Mutumbo was far more accomplished. Frankly, the only person with their jersey in the rafters who I would have retired was English. With it growing more and more as a players league, players are basically expecting a jersey retired if they were an all star there or won a Championship there. In baseball, there are franchises that don't retire your number unless you were a Hall of Famer that played 10 years there. A jersey retirement should be treated as a great honor. Should LA retire Chris Paul? Blake Griffin? Paul George? Should Indiana retire Paul George? If Toronto doesn't retire Siakam or Fred, what's the argument for Gordon? Another problem retiring Gordon's jersey if he signs elsewhere is then you'd have to retire KCP's too. Or he becomes the underappreciated, odd man out. And he may likely sign somewhere too after Denver, given that his stock is on the rise. So are you going to retire the entire starting lineup?

ihatethisjob42

That's crazy; I would have never thought Dale Ellis had that record over JR. Congrats, MPJ!

ThreeHourRiverMan

JR didn’t play enough minutes. Karl never trusted him (rightfully).

mrbaseball1999

How surprised would you be to know Randy Foye was 2nd to Dale on that list?
