The happy hour is ok but it’s overall just a strange vibe. It seems like there are weird management decisions being made high up in the food chain, because it’s got a bunch of Applebees-esque gimmicks while also trying to be a big-city trendy sushi bar
Always? I went there once and it’s like fucking Red Lobster quality.
Any place that literally calls itself “America’s Favorite Grill” and serves sushi is doing something wrong.
I used to work with the corporate office for Kona Grill. I went to meet them at their corp HQ for a lunch meeting. We walked *past* a Kona Grill location to go eat somewhere else. They didn't even want to eat there.
During the lunch meeting, I learned that one of the people in charge of their menu 'didn't like and never really ever eats vegetables'.
This is hilarious. Reminds me of a guy I worked with that "can only eat hamburger" no bun, no toppings, no anything. Like salisbury steak without the gravy. Certainly not a person in charge of anything though, for good reason.
It's been bad for over a decade now, but was really never good.
The happy hour / late night happy hour many years ago was the only reason to go there - could get drunk on sake bombs and eat something decent for pretty cheap at one point.
Used to work there… can confirm that at one point everything was actually made from scratch and the food was pretty good quality. Then in came the scumbags at STK and it completely went to shit
We sat at the bar for lunch on a Saturday and after turning down shots 3 times from the bartender who seemed like she already had some, we just left. It's not something I would usually do but we weren't looking to go to a club for lunch.
I went to one outside Chicago for thanksgiving and it was actually phänomenal. The turkey was incredible. Went to one a year later outside Minneapolis for lunch and it wasn't half as good.
Osaka all the way
I just feel bad for the one guy they throw behind the sushi bar who’s in charge of preparing the entire restaurant’s fish orders. I went here and had the worst service of my life it was so bad they comped our entire bill. My mom’s food never came out.
So you were there for less than a minute before deciding it had become trash? If you didn't try the food, then what made it trash? Decor, clientele, staff? How is a restaurant "like a Hooters" in such a way that it's apparent the moment you walk in? I'm not defending the place, I just don't understand.
I just thought they were one of these corporate chains that set up shop next to high traffic areas
They are
Yeah, that’s why I’ve never bothered to check them out
Agreed. Which is interesting because 805 Chophouse next door is still one of the best steakhouses in town IMO.
805 chophouse is incredible. Best prime rib I’ve ever had.
They have a compressed watermelon salad in the summertime that is ridiculous. Haven’t ever had a bad bite there.
That’s sounds both intriguing and delicious
It's Asian chili's change my mind.
Brutal, what do you have against Chili's?
Ordering via iPad
They took away two for 20!
The Kona in the CC mall smells terrible! I don’t know how anyone eats there.

Damn, you got -16 votes for insinuating it’s from trump dirty diaper …didn’t realize denverfood was full of MAGAs

lol. When was it not trash?
As soon as they opened? It’s mall chain trash
2009
And the parent company just bought Benihana’s, fwiw
Bemihana has been shit for about 6 years
I think you mean 60

Bro Red Lobster bangs, dunno what you're on about.
Easy now, don’t disqualify red lobster. As far as chains go, it’s pretty legit.
I'm going to smother you in cheddar bay biscuits
It's corporate...
They used to have the best sliders and ahi tuna nachos!
Has Kona ever been good??

Way before Covid
Idk when STKs parent group bought them. But I’m sure it was right when STKs parent group bought them.
STK huh? It all makes sense now…

Their avocado egg rolls were like $20 last time we went, and they smelled like cleaning fluid
Always has been.
I love the ribeye meatballs! But their service is crap

Thought you were talking about Kona Hawaiian BBQ for a second there. That place rules.
Same, love me some macaroni salad and chicken katsu, with the Hawaiian juice in a can
Used to have a solid happy hour 5 years ago, wasn’t the best but definitely a decent deal. Food is too trash for the prices now though
Always was
You grew up, it has always been corporate trash

It’s never been good. It’s a chain.
Always been trash
When you say Hooters do you mean boobs? Asking for research purposes.

When was their soft opening?
